    Ahh... cuttlefish. Of the three species you caught, those are my favorites. I cook them the Algarve way, fried in olive oil with plenty of garlic and fresh finelly chopped coriander, served with boiled potatoes sliced in half and sautéed on the same oil where you fried the cuttlefish. It never fails! They are also great charcoal grilled. Trust me, I'm portuguese. ;)

    There were so many things I enjoyed in this video, from the gorgeous morning weather, the octopi you were catching, even the superb use of a Monty Python reference. But the piece I loved the most was seeing those dolphins that followed you along. I backtracked over and over to those sections. They were beautiful & they even seemed happy with their own catch. I know they may have been a tiny bit pesky to you but I'm so glad you capture them on video for us to admire.

    I have eaten all three species often and love them as food, but as in many other areas of life I am a bit of a hypocrite because I don't think I could take an octopus out of the water and take it home to eat or use as bait... I have a problem with the ratio of its intelligence/life expectancy of one year. I buy squid as bait and use it without a qualm... Strange, isn't it ?

    • @TheFishLocker

      - Such is the quandary of life Gerald. Octopus are very interesting creatures, I do not have an issue taking them from our local area as the local population has exploded lately and they are everywhere. But understand how people can feel differently. 😊🐙

      For me it is the opposite. I like every fish dish, but I don't buy or catch fish myself because I don't want to scale nor gut fish. Especially scales are so messy. So I like to cook octopus. So easy bacause I just put it , alive and whole, in boiling water, just like lobsters.

    This I cannot see, my friend. I love the taste of grilled Octopus, but I have become more aware of their intelligence in our family of living species. How do you feel about the Octopus as an intelligent being? I know many are going to label me as a snowflake, but I strongly feel life is worth giving attention to.

    • @TheFishLocker
      @TheFishLocker  4 года назад +3

      - They are not nearly as intelligent as a pig. And they are one of the most commonly eaten species on the planet. Octopus numbers in our area have exploded and it is very harmful to shellfish numbers.

      - My Octopus teacher has something to answer for. First 20 mins is just a guy complaining about his life and poor relationships with his family. Which is simply a result of his own selfish choices. Purely a spin off from the section in Attenboroughs Blue Planet brought out the year previously. The Octopus population in my local area is exploding and causing a lot of damage to shellfish populations.

    Its Sunday in the US and I had to go in to work this morning when I got your notification. I thought, "hey, I've been working, its time for a break!"; I started working 15 minutes ago, hahahaha. BTW, I love eating squid and octopus, but to me when cooking, its the 60-60 rule. Either cook it 60 seconds, or 60 minutes. Otherwise, its too tough. A pressure cooker works well with these things. Slice it and marinate in your favorite sauce, its so good.
