I realized mine needed cleaning when the power just wasn't there. Did not want to accelerate and slowly lost power until I couldn't even get it started. Also the idling rpms started to jump every now and then.
Here's a little trick of the trade to find out where ticking is coming from take a screwdriver flat-head that's long and push it against the side of the engine and anywhere you think ticking is coming from and put your ear on the end of the screwdriver it will allow you to detect where the tick is and whether it's coming from the fuel injector itself or valves or cam chain tensioner anything think about it like a stethoscope. Fuel injectors naturally tick because they are magnetically operated so a fuel injector should tick however it should not be Extremely Loud so you might have to put the screwdriver on multiple points on the engine to listen to the valve cover gasket the cam chain tensioner the clutch basket the cylinder sleeve that's what's awesome about this method is that you can completely track down where the tick is coming from to figure out whether you have a lot of work to do or if it's just something simple
Back in the day that was the case today it is not the case anymore. Back in the day the worry was that by introducing synthetic oil to a non-synthetic system the detergents would screw everything up if you attempted to go back to regular oil
what year is yourebike i have same one just got it sitting sinse 2015 the one i have is 2014 and came from Hawaii yup still has the plate and i got it from mass he was a Sailer stationed in Pearl harbor
Well you can always spray it with chemical base or bring it to a professional cleaning place and have them do it properly. If you're doing it at home you can spray the entire bike down just make sure to not douse the engine heavily with water just a quick spray and then soap and water and then another quick spray of the engine you do not want the electrical components getting soaked that's why it has plastics. Other than that feel free to wash and spray down the whole body with soap and water and give it a good rub down
No I think somebody put oil on the filter it's pretty common for motorcycles and scooters to have spray oil to catch all the particles however I think somebody really really really overdid it
