"Light In The Black" is actually a continuation of "Stargazer", in that it's the same person who escaped slavery thanks to the demise of the 'wizard' in "Stargazer" who now has to find his way back home. Deep Purple's first heavy album "In Rock" is also a pivotal album, not only in music history but also in the band's career. It's THE album where Blackmore blew all the stops and started using a Fender Stratocaster to the delight of millions, except maybe for their eardrums. "Deep Purple In Rock" has maybe the very first shredder song in history in the form of the scorching "Hard Lovin' Man".

Rising is definitely a hard rock/metal influencer. Deep Purple songs worth checking out: Mandrake Root 1970 London video, Burn live 1975 in Paris video, the entire 1976 album Come Taste the Band, live 1985 video for Under the Gun. A Light in the Black was part of the set on tour but had to be dropped because Cozy Powell was physically exhausted after Stargazer and LITB. Blackmore definitely took to the stratosphere on the solo of LITB. I wore this album out when it came out. So watching you gave me such a great feeling.😁😁

Stargazer is so perfectly constructed, every element so finely tuned, that it's pure beauty. A Light in the Black is not that, A Light in the Black doesn't give a shit about being intelligent, it's going to be maximum awesome and there's nothing you can do about it; and I find that endlessly entertaining.
I think I've commented this before, but just a reminder, you gotta listen to Dire Straits, specifically listen to the studio version of Sultans of Swing, and then the incredible twice as long Alchemy Live/Hammersmith Odeon version of Sultans of Swing. While Rainbow grabs your attention with heavy sounds that you want to dance to, Dire Straits fluttery melodies puts you in more of a Zen state where you just want to close your eyes and feel it. This video was really wonderful. I can remember hearing Rising for the first time I think in about 1989, when it was already considered an OLD record, and also being knocked out by Stargazer in particular. I never admitted it to friends at the time, but if there was a video filming me listening to it over and over in my bedroom, my reaction wouldn't have been very different to yours! As for Deep Purple and Judas Priest - they are both great great bands, but nobody can agree on which records to start with. For DP, you can pretty much start anywhere from their run of amazing records between 1970 and 1975 (what fans call the Mk II and Mk III line ups). Very few bad moments there, although my personal favourite is 'Burn'.
For Judas Priest, my only advice is to not start with Painkiller - people love watching reactions to it because it's so over the top, and heavy, but it's actually very non-typical for them. Seeing as you're getting into the 70s Hard Rock records, a great place to start would be Sad Wings of Destiny, which is considered the first big heavy metal landmark after the early Sabbath records, or if you want to go a little later, Hell Bent For Leather.
Sorry for the essay length comment - it's just so inspiring to see people enjoying this music!
Edit: I'm guessing, reading one of your replies below, that you've already listened to Painkiller - all I'll say is don't let it put you off!

I reacted sort of the same way to this album when I was 15 or so. I adored classic Deep Purple since I was 11, 12 years old. My uncle once gave me some old mixtapes (Deep Purple, Queen, The Who, Led Zeppelin etc.) so I could record my own mixtapes over them, but I just listened tot them and played them till they were totally dull. I discovered Rainbow when I was 15. Kids at school thought I was weird listening to that old stuff, while they were listening to Iron Maiden, Wasp and that kind of stuff... There was no internet then so I had to discover 'different' music through books and vinyl in libraries, documentaries on liniar tv (no cable back then), magazines etc. The album was released when I was not even 2 years old, so it was already 'classic rock' when I heard it for the first time. I'm 46 now but great to see young people from nowadays can still get the same reaction to a great classic album.

It's so nice to accompany you in your "voyage" of music. I love music in general, but I mostly like Rock and Metal. I love Ronnie James Dio's music, maybe one day you could do a video reacting to the "evolution" of Ronnie James Dio. I mean, you can start with songs from the Red Caps and Ronnie and the Prophets, then, songs from Elf and Rainbow, after continue with his Black Sabbath era and then his solo years in the 80's, 90's and 2000's. I think it that it could be an interesting video an experience for you :D :D Another good reaction could be that you "compare" or watch the live version of Mistreated by Deep Purple in 1974, and also the live version by Rainbow with DIO in 1977. Thank you for your videos and sharing your energy with us and I hope you have an excellent weekend Kira.

As usual excellent video. Your enthusiasm and passion for music is contagious. Rainbow Rising is dear to my heart as well. Now listen to the other Dio era Rainbow albuns, the album after Rising, Long Live Rock 'n Roll is great too. Gates Of Babylon and Kill The King are standouts. Rainbow Rising is one of the seminal albums in the creation of the subgenre of Power Metal, maybe you can explore the subgenre later.
About King Crimson. KC have a lot "eras", it is one of the most experimental bands in existence. And they have the influence in early heavy metal.
Songs for reaction for King Crimson is impossible in youtube I believe, they block everything in reaction channels. But recommendations Starless (one of the most epic songs of all time), all the album Red is essential, it is a absolute classic (in the level of In The Court of Crimson King). Fracture, Larks' tongues in aspic part 1 and 2, The Talking Drum, The Exiles, Easy Money, Lament, Discipline. The album Discipline after a hiatus is a new wave influenced album with ex-Talking Head guitarrist Andrew Bellew is excelent too.
Where KC excels is live perfomances. A lot of their songs are composed live between improvisations, their album Starless and Bible Black is a live album edited to look like a studio album.
And talking about King Crimson, maybe you can react (if you already haven't listen) to Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson (founder of Porcupine Tree). It is metal (only in the later albums), it is influenced by King Crimson and another 70s prog acts, and indie rock. I recommend Trains, Anesthetize, Arriving Somewhere but Not Here, Drive Home, Luminol, Routine (the last 3 from Steven Wilson solo).
Judas Priest I don't know If you managed to listen to any song from the Sad Wings of Destiny album because in a lot of countries the album is missing, because of a label problem. But it is one of the great classic albums of heavy metal, Victims of Change from this album is a essential Priest song.
And this is the end of another long post of mine.

Some of the more dull songs from their debut album (Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow), particularly “Sixteenth Century Greensleeves” and “Still I’m Sad” are almost completely different songs in their live act during this period. Another must-have is Rainbow Live in Munich ‘77. This album is more accessible and also is available on DVD. Unfortunately they did not play “Stargazer” on this one, but it’s still fantastic

If I now tried to leap around like you did in this video, I would probably needed my inhalers or a dose of nebulisers at the local hospital😂. Oh I wish I had that energy and was 20 or so again😂.
Really enjoyed your reaction and found it interesting how you felt your attention was being grabbed by guitar and vocals more than bass for the first time. I think when you come into contact for the first time with someone a bit special like both of those guys you cannot help but we swayed as you listen. As I said on your previous reaction this was the album that fully got me into metal. That is over 40 years ago and I still adore this album and am finding new artists to get excited by in the rock/metal/prog and blues genres. I hope that you continue to find new bands to enjoy as you get older (it happens... try to do it disgracefully 😁).
If you don't know them yet then I will mention Rush as they have a vast catalogue to enjoy. Perhaps either "A Farewell To Kings" or "Permanent Waves" listen throughs might be fun for you. All 3 band members are superb and you won't know which member to air play to... it doesn't help that Geddy sometimes is playing bass and keys at the same time whilst singing!
Some one else has definitely mentioned Uriah Heep and I can say that they are excellent as well.
For King Crimson suggestions either "Larks Tongue In Aspic" or "Discipline". You can get to see how they change through the years whilst still making amazing music.
Again great reaction. I wish you all the best.

So gratifying to see albums that have meant everything to us being discovered and loved for the first time. It seems that even amongst metalheads, there are factions that don’t go back to the real roots of the genre; at most, some will go back as far as the early ‘80’s and the emergence of thrash metal but albums like Rising both define and transcend metal at such an early stage of the game.

5:00 while it is true what you say, the outro (as well as the intro) to Tarot Woman was a Synthesizer solo, by keyboardist Tony Carey :)
5:50 well, Ritchie wouldn't be bothered to play anything boring (which even resulted in fights with the other band members later in the carreer during the Deep Purple reunion - besides personality isues)
Part of the reason Jon Lord played such a distinct hard organ in Deep Purple - he had to be the rythm player ;)
9:05 indeed, the songs 2,3,4 are often overlooked because compared to the rest of the album, because they're kinda basic, but still brilliant rocksongs.
16:01 and the classical inspired instrumentals at it once again :D
16:41 when they went on tour, they wanted to play Stargazer and A Light in the Black back to back like on the album - but they had to drop the latter after a few shows because Cozy Powell physically couldn't continue the show after that :P
One of the best rock albums of all time indeed.
Now some time check out the live show: either
-the album 'On Stage' as it was released on vinyl in the 70s
-Cologne 1976 - one of the concerts recorded for that album in its entirety, including Stargazer. (there are also full releases of Düsseldorf 1976 and Nuremberg 1976 - I like Cologne the best)
-Munich 1977 video - the only full video there is, even if it's a TINY bit weaker than the '76 tour and it's live recordings, and also misses Stargazer... (there is also some interisting trivia around that show ;) )

Wow... what a reaction. And I can see of lot of similarities with my first Rising listen: I too felt from the first track that this will be one of my all time favourites. And the first time I heard Stargazer was the first time any kind of music made me cry, there when the violin kicks in. Unreal emotions by both the music and the lyrics... Really enjoyed that. Can't wait to see your first time hearing Sabbath's albums with Dio.
Also, if you like the first King Crimson I recommend their fourth and fifth albums or so, Larks Tongues in Aspic and Starless and Bible Black. They have more of a pink floyd vibe in those albums, they are more progressive with a psychedelic touch even in some songs. In all, I think they don't receive the credit they deserve, especially when compared to Pink Floyd. I m not saying they are better than them, but they are certainly underrated
