Time for a REGEN

  • While finishing up some light duty work, my tractor decided to go into regeneration mode just before parking. I pulled out my phone and filmed as much of it as I could.
A regeneration cycle occurs with the tractors diesel particulate filter (DPF) starts to get clogged up with soot. The process is designed to incinerate the soot particulates in the DPF leaving it clean for the next hours of usage.
This LS XR4145C regen cycle is about 50hrs or when the computer senses the DPF is about 80% clogged. This is the 4th time this tractor has regenerated at 193hrs.

Don't think you need to "firewall" the throttle during regeneration. DPF injects fuel to burn off without high RPMS.

You are absolutely correct! The computer takes over, which is why I noticed the bump in RPM when it first started. However, the tractor was warm, not hot. My dealer told me to simply max the throttle to get it as hot as possible, the engine, even going as far as working it hard, to get a good burn.
When I was out brush hogging last summer, when it did it last time, I was operating at PTO speeds. Thats where it did the regen. I didnt max the throttle at that time, but I was working the tractor hard mowing through tall green, wet, grass.
      Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thank you. Cleared up some of my confusion about regen and also eased my fear of it. I'm coming up on my 1st with the new LS and now I'm ready for it.

Thats why I do these videos! I was nervous too about the tractor going into regen mode, the first time. Especially when you hear about people having problems with it. But 90% of those problems seem to be people canceling the regen and the DPF getting plugged up. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@TractorsNStuff Your videos and a few others convinced me to go with the LS. I saw a ton of complaints. But it does seem all were related to not letting it do the regen properly. I appreciate all the info you put out.

I had the same light and everything worked itself out. I looked in the manual and I just don't see the first temp light by the regen but now I know what to expect. Thanks for the video!

Not scary at all! I heard horror stories about regen. This looks pretty simple. Thank you.

All new , tractors over 30 hp needs a Diesel particulate filter , Diesel engines over 70 horsepower have added on Diesel exhaust fluid as well

To inhibit the regen mode press down on the switch to the left. To exit inhibit mode press down again. Then press up for 1 second to start the regen again.
If you want to run the regen manually, press up and hold for 3 minutes.
This is from the MT347 owner manual.

There will be a point when the filter will have to go for maintenance because after a lot of regens ash remains in the filter and you have to get it cleaned out like hot water for instance.

On my Ls xu6168 it seems faster last time it was dark out and i was about to shut it down then it went into regen so i just unloaded some more wood that i was moving and it was over by time i finished! Seems any that complain are just looking for problems!

@Nikola Vinski only problem it has was like 50hrs it had the computer that runs the shuttle shift went out it was fixed by warranty and not a problem since. I blow out dust and check fluids regularly I keep fuel tank full when sitting overnight to keep water out of tank. I grease it regularly and I don't abuse it just use it. I use it for small square baler and dirt work and to move logs for my sawmill so it has been maxed out many times. I believe a lot is operating error and poor common sense with people and equipment in general.

Thanks for the video... How is your tractor doing since Apr 2020? I am considering an LS 468 or a NH Workmaster 65... The New Holland doesnt do Regen. It has a DOC instead. Not sure which is better or if you ever have to replace the DPF and what that would cost... So - a couple questions - what size is your tractor, how many hours and have you had any issues with the regen? Thanks for posting the video! It makes me feel a little better about regens process.

My Tractor has a DOC (Diesel oxidation catalyst), DPF (Diesel particulate filter) and an EGR (exhaust gas recirculating)

Rpm only needs to be 1800 or so if it an auto regen.

When tractors need def fluid the only time you will see that is when the tractors horse power is 90 and up will require def
