  • I'm seeing this same scenario a few times a week now where people have been told the soot mass is at 0 but next day the fault returns.
    resetting the dpf values only temporarily cancels the fault light until the calculations rise back up due to the diesel particulate filter still being blocked.

    Its car manufacturers who are at fault , what each car should have is soot level read out on the car media system . This would help people know when the car is in regeneration. Problem is people dont know .

      Excellent comment, if we know when a good run is needed by the car telling us it needs to regenerate then there would be less hassle. I routinely run my car down the motorway every 3 weeks and give it a blast for a few miles.

      The biggest problem is that it will NOT solve the real problem, it will be blocked up again in another few months. I had many diesels and found it was the way they were driven. I even broke a new diesel of my own and had the manufacturer replace the DPF after 9000 miles, then had to get another one after 14000 miles. I was going a mile or two to the shops in this particular car, going to work through 30mph town traffic and stop/start traffic (with stop/start engine system) and only covering 8 miles each way.
      I used to have to take the car down the motorway at 60mph for 30mins to clear it every few weeks or the DPF would start causing errors.
      The main dealer altered the car so it regenerated at every 300miles whether it needed it or not, this caused further problems with the servicing of the car. When a car regenerates, it pumps fuel in during the exhaust cycle and heats the cat and DPF, but this diesel also gets in to the oil. This causes excessive wear and tear and melts glowplugs too.
      The best advice is to remove the DPF completely, reporgram the car to remove or delete the DPF and bribe the MOT testing station to pass it. In the UK most garages will pass cars without a CAT and DPF by driving a car in next to yours and taking the readings off that one. It's well known and the only way to stop your car being destroyed.
      I now have petrol cars and get 20mpg less, cause far more CO2 and pay far more road tax - all to apparently clean the air!

      @@Bond2025 Thank you for the comment regarding the fact that diesel gets into the oil. This is what I heard in a German video as well. This can destroy an engine.

    Carbon Cleaning, or HHO Cleaning, is very good for cleaning the combustion chamber, EGR, and Turbo, it works by pumping Hydrogen into the combustion chamber. I used to have a machine myself, and it does give impressive results for removing carbon build up in diesel and petrol engines. But it will not clean or even touch your DPF, as you rightly stated.

    Too many seem to think they can get away with just resetting the sensor. Had a customer just yesterday after a carbon clean & a dpf clean, the guy came with a big machine in his van said they clean the dpf, he showed the customer that the value is 0 and left, 15 miles later the dpf came back, had to go out there as an emergency call out due to the poor chap going abroad the very next day.

    Excellent video and some well informed commentx about enxuring the vehicle is driven for 10 minutes at 2000+ RPM regularly. The emission controls on modern dieselx is one of the worst piece of engineering ever. The DPF is guaranteed to clog up if the vehicle is used mostly for short journeys. The bottom line is that diesel engines are dirty beasts, especially when not up to full operating temperature or badly maintained. Diesel fuel oil should be used only for heavy commercial vehicles and ships. I am a qualified petroleum chemist and also an active car/van repair enthusiast so I have some reasonable understanding of the underlying chemsitry and what incomplete combustion means.

    Another great video. I had mine blocked up (Audi A4 3.0 TDi - 95kmls) & it went into limp mode. That meant that I couldnt rev it high enough to blast down the motorway for a dynamic regen. It was too blocked for the system to allow a static regen. Some people were telling me that it was too far gone & would need replacement. However, I used the code reader to trick the car into thinking I had replaced the DPF. By doing that, it meant that I could get it out of limp mode. I then went for a blast on the motorway btu that didnt seem to clear it enough. I could then however get the system into a static regen (with a fire extinguisher nearby because it had a bit too much soot & therefore a fire hazard. That worked a treat & got the differential pressure down to about zero. So my suggestion is that if you cant get it to do a static regen, then first tell it that you have a new DPF & then do a static regen.

    So it looks like that big machine is just a hydrogen oxygen generator. It just uses electricity to produce hydrogen and oxygen by splitting water, and the only thing it is supposed to do is raise the temperature of the combustion chamber to the point that the carbon starts to burn off. Seems rather pointless to me. They say you put it in the intake and it cleans the intake manifold the EGR the combustion chamber the turbo and the DPF. Not really much of a chance that will work properly on soot. It's basically a forced region that just cooks the carbon on permanently. Does not appear to work on intake valves at all. It's really only designed to clean combustion chamber and who knows if it does that very well. I posted a video further on down that shows there's almost no difference after hydrogen cleaning. Intake valves just as dirty, and no change on Dyno horsepower output.

      the only cleaning you can test with out a lot of work to pre check and post check test is on the DPF with dif presure drop.
      this type of cleaning will just be like a re-gen with high temp burn off. I know you try to avoid re-gens due to damage so maybe you should watch the DPF temps as you do the cleaning.

    • @One_over_the_eight
      @One_over_the_eight Год назад

      How can it clean the EGR and the intake manifold as they are both positioned before (inlet flow) you reach any alleged raised temperature of the cylinder block? The turbo and the DPF seems plausible as they’re both positioned after the the cylinder block (exit flow) and could benefit from carbon burning higher temperature exhaust gases. Also, a lot of vehicles have plastic intake manifolds so even if the temperature was raised high enough to burn carbon it would melt the intake manifold into the bargain.

    • @One_over_the_eight
      @One_over_the_eight Год назад

      @@JustMe-Dude If your car is failing to automatically re-gen you can perform a forced DPF re-regeneration through the OBD2 port with the correct software for your car, which is easily downloaded, a laptop and a USB/ELM cable. No damage is done during the regeneration process and you can read all the before and after parameter results. I personally use MultiECUscan as it’s the correct software for my cars.

      @@One_over_the_eight I use a Launch PAD V, but I prefer to avoid force regeneration if possible. Cleaning is a much more thorough and less chance of damage method. Regeneration can cause damage sometimes and I've even seen where a partially blocked DPF with a forced regeneration caused a chunk of carbon to block the DPF as it baked on harder instead of burning off.

      15-30 minutes driving in 4th or 5th gear minimum of 50mph and your DPF will be 95% clean just from that and do this once a month. Chuck in some Redex fuel additive every 3-6 months before one of these journeys and you'll never need a professional DPF clean. If you own a diesel you should be doing 30 minute journeys on the motorway at least a few times a week really, if you're not then you should save on the hassle and get a petrol car. The fuel economy that comes with diesel only really makes a huge difference on the longer journeys, otherwise you're paying more in DPF costs for the short journeys

    The amount of times these get blocked because of a failed temp sensor is a joke. Vans are the worst as most have the temp sensor in the wing mirror, the wing mirror gets damaged and replaced but they don't put the temp sensor in the new wing mirror. Not many people look for the cause and just clean the dpf and go treating a symptom instead of looking and rectifying the actual fault.
