I'm just got my first SM watch. Amazing. The brushing on this looks amazing. Almost silk-like. I'm normally not a "adventurer" style watch guy, but this one is making me give it a hard look.
You could just go with their 36mm Explorer homage which, for some reason, uses a proper 20mm bracelet/lug-width. On their store-page, those BB36 homages are still listed as using 19mm bracelets as of today (late March 23). EDIT: Oops... looks like there might be a typo on the SM site... the Mercedes-hands version has conflicting info re the lugwidth/bracelet width. It says it uses a 20x16mm bracelet, but further down (under "dimensions"), it states "band width: 19mm". So... yeah... :)
Thanks so much! That really means a lot. Still watching your stuff too, mate - I'm no modder, though. Still, love the Oris and the PRX but I'd have to get the Powermatic 80. To quote the man himself, "I’d buy it a steak dinner and whisper sweet nothings into it."
I have the san martin bb36 version 2, it has the smaller clasp(which i think suits the sizo of the watch better),is 20mm lug width ,it is 36mm and has a small cap on second hand. Yours is version 2.5,as version 3 has a darker black dial and the logo is printed. Also the 3rd version (not sure if yours has) has a different shape of the crystal, same box but the edges are not that steep as version 2,which i prefer, it is also slightly domed
I think you are right about the price means it’s going against Swiss entry watches. I bought a Mido Multifort 38mm from Ashford an authorized dealer for $299 on Black Friday.
Mate I always found you to be likeable and now that you revealed your face even more. It's good to know a person's face because it helps to connect to said person. Couldn't agree more about this watch. Just like that San Martin invented the Blackbay 37! 😆 The unimaginative font is a little bugbear of mine too, especially as it would be such an easy fix. That said, I do like the smile dial!
Thanks so much for saying so, Alex - that really means a lot, honestly. And that's a good name haha, about as much imagination a SM would put into it, anyway. I think production, rather than marketing/branding, is their strong suit. If Tudor made this without the smile dial text, I think it might become my grail.
Glad to finally see you mate judging by your voice I thought you were a scrawny teenager 😉 But good handsome fella all the best and keep up the good work
I have one of their "Explorer" models. Oddly enough, it has 20mm lug width. I'm surprised they used a different case for this one? Also, mine is beautifully finished and runs like a champ. I take it places I can't safely take an actual Rolex. But it still feels and wears like a Rolex. For the money these are hard to beat.
The 19mm lugs is a big no no for me. Im going for the Pagani instead. Pagani also succeeded in getting the stuff on the dial in better dimensions. However the San Martin seems to have better finnish on the case and strap.
You obviously haven't seen how little Google ads pay for my numbers. Give me a year and I'll start selling straps and coffee - then we'll take a trip to Selfridges and see what sort of cravat I can get to go with my NATO strap.
I’m thinking about picking this up. I feel that this looks a lot better than the original Tudor bb36. It’s what it should have been. I feel like at the price point, I can just wear it and not feel guilty.
I own the BB36, and it's a lovely watch. I have owned several SM watches, and still own a quartz model. Other than the top grade Sellita movement, silky smooth crown engagement, and a better clasp on the Tudor, I am sure there is very little in the quality. Thanks for the reply
The green and gold?! Yeah, that is (the fire emoji). I think I considered that one but I am just too conservative in my tastes. Though would be tempted by a teal dial - think they've gone a bit out of fashion now by the looks of things. Green's a winner though! ow's the movement running for you?
I have a San martin: San Martin SN0107-G Ranger. Great watch, only negative, the bands are always too short, they think Hobbits live in Europe?? I have a normal 9 inch wrist. Had to get extra links from a friend, San martin does not sell extra links... Not smart, how hard can it be...
I recently bought a San Martin from the official website and I noticed a few things about it. It's about the SN021-g b2 in black. According to the manufacturer, the bandwidth should be 20mm, but it is 19mm and no its not with the printed logo. I also noticed that the manual winding does not work smoothly. As soon as you set the time and I push in a notch, the minute hand shifts quite a bit and there is also a strong resistance that doesn't make it easy to push in. It's not my first automatic watch and I've never had this problem with any of my others. I still have 2 years of warranty. I have written to San Martin several times but nothing has come from their side and their phone number does not exist. Who should I contact and how can I to fix the problem? Thank you and best regards
Hiya Carlos! This model does indeed have a 19mm lug width, which is annoying but I liked the bracelet so much, I didn't really find it to be an issue long term. As for the movement, you might have drawn the short straw in terms of the particular PT5000 in the back. I'd go to whomever you bought it from. If they're not responding via email, try Instagram or even the ChineseWatches sub-Reddit: www.reddit.com/r/ChineseWatches/ Some of the reps of San Martin are on there, from what I can gather. But someone SHOULD be responding to you if you have issues. Thanks for watching and I hope you get the issue resolved!
I got PT5000 in Omicron (or what ever it is called) and it is running at +1 sec per day for last month. Good movement unfortunately watch is tad to big for me.
@LumePip you're spot on. I've just bought this watch. The SN021-G-B2 has the capped hands whereas this model doesn't. Lovely watch and a great informative video.
Would be interesting to compare it to my brother's bb36. But at the sametime I don't really no how I feel about watches that look so close to a watch that is already in production.
Totally agree in terms of it being an interesting comparison! Another person has mentioned how this resembles more of a Rolex case rather than the slabby Tudor ones, so there is that wee difference, too. But, yeah, like someone's replied here, if you keep it in good condition, lots of people would snap up a San Martin, mainly because they like the ability to get them domestically rather than have them shipped from China.
Just on the thumbnail picture, funny enough, I prefer the San Martin over the Tudor. Then knowing the SanMartin great quality, PT5000 or Sellita movement and its price vs the Tudor's price, for me there is no question, SanMartin is the watch to go for! Plus the case design of the Tudor, slab sides and strange crown design is less appealing to me than the SanMartin case and crown design which is closer to a Rolex explorer.
That's a really good shout! Yeah, definitely an Oyster case thing going on. And if you haven't got 3 grand then paying a tenth of that for a watch this good isn't just sensible horologically (new word, mine, patent pending), it's sensible fiscally, too.
The lugs are super sharp, the movement, PT5000; is unreliable. Ask me how I know. Wherever San Martin were a few years ago they've been sliding in terms of QC lately while the prices have increased. I'm sick of the click bait titles in these Watch review vids, like how are you going to compare watches if you haven't spent time with one? The algorithm is shining on you right now, good luck but that weird penis reference(references? I gave up at the 3 minute mark) and the aforementioned problems I have with your review there will be no bell clicking from me.
Fuck, then I watched the rest of the video and you apologized for the title, and there was more penis references! I'm still not subscribing but if you were to pop up again on my feed I might give it a click. And then make a rambling comment to help you with the algorithm.
I can’t speak for how they were a few years ago, but those I’ve tried have been really good for the price. This doesn’t have sharp lugs, nor has the movement been unreliable, at least whilst I’ve been wearing it. I don’t like price increases, though, and totally agree that they won’t win friends if things continue that way. Also, I do acknowledge the click bait-y nature of the video thumbnail, but I hardly think my tiny channel has any algorithm shining on it, at least judging by my bank account! I think I might need to start flogging coffee and leather straps… Fair enough if I’m not your cup of tea, though - can’t please everyone all of the time.

Well, I would definitely agree if most of the stuff I - and I suspect many people of my age in my part of the world - own was manufactured and shipped from some sort of shady business. I’m not advocating buying fakes of course, but we have laws and copyright infringement cases to draw an ethical line for us. As far as I can ascertain, San Martin don’t hire children to work their fingers to the bone to make their watches and they aren’t breaking any laws as they’re not infringing copyright. I totally get where you’re coming from and I appreciate that position and respect it if that’s what you want for yourself. To me, it’s a bit like some of these fashion companies imitating original designs by Nike, but I’m not particularly wound up by that as Nike, like Rolex, is a huge corporation that don’t care whether I’m dead or alive, and won’t as long as it doesn’t affect their bottom line. Great stuff 😊. The snide remarks and self deprecation is hilarious! 😊
I wanted a Tudor BB36 for a long time. Now, I might go with this one instead. It’s almost 8x less than the watch it pays homage to.
Keep it up, as always! Great video and nice to see a face along with the voice 😎

really want this with a jubilee, with on the fly adjustable clasp, like the new BB39.

You look like an interesting mix between Alex Turner and Elijah Wood, jajá. Nice review, thank you.
If it helps, they upgraded the newer model to 20mm lugs. At least they seem to be listening! Great review as always!
