The Constitution of India does not allow holding Indian citizenship and citizenship of a foreign country simultaneously. Based on the recommendation of the High Level committee on Indian Diaspora, the Government of India decided to grant Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) commonly known as 'dual citizenship'.

Akshay Kumar case is weird, US and Canada do not directly give their citizenship. They give permanent residence or green card, which is nothing but a plastic card. In US, you have to stay in green card for 5 years and then apply for US citizenship, and in Canada it is 3 years.
Only after then you can apply for citizenship, become citizen, then you get passport of that country.
But akshay kumar get canada citizenship 15-20 years ago so that time these rules are not there so he got easily compares to present times.
@@shivang8195 no he was on PR first and then got citizenship same with Madhuri Dixit first Green card and then citizenship both of them have OCI
There is a provision for people with extraordinary talents that bypasses the need for PR.

If you have an OCI, you don't need Indian nationality as you can do most things - apart from voting (doesn't matter), getting a government job and some other things.. you can invest, do business, buy properties, stay for indefinitely... what more can you ask for ???

Worst citizenship and passport, no advantage anywhere in the world, I’ve seen many Indians treated like beggars coming to developed countries. Our Indian passports are treated very badly and we feel really stressed to clear immigration everywhere in the world. What advantages of having such a passport. I’d definitely get a different passport from a developed country and feel stress free travel and other advantages.
