- Into The Spider Verse is easily one of the best Marvel movies ever made. It's also, in the opinions of many, the BEST Spider-Man film ever made.
That's a high bar, let me tell you.
So today, I want to gush about how amazing this brilliant animated Marvel film is and why one character in it is so special to me: Peter B Parker.
I love an older Spider-Man with a chip on his shoulder, one who's seen and done too much to be the young quipy kid we've honestly seen too much of in Spidey's recent MCU outings.

6:11 "sometimes his self-doubt brings him down..." - !?
No such thing, doubt is doubt abd the sebtence structure makes it nire than obvious the doubt is about his sense of self.
Only wimen and intellectual nales lack living sense of syntax, this is why they overuse words like "self" in pkaces they don't need to be placed.
It's why they stupidly double conjugate words whose base form is already sufficient such as statung or typing "spherical" or "spheroid" for a roynd object which can just be called "round" or ur they must be redundant just a "sphere."
Doubt is doubt, there is no such thing as "self-doubt," you women and intellectual males ate the leading cause of linguistic degeneration.
He’s honestly the most comic accurate adaptation of the character. He actually grew up, got married, is pessimistic at first but becomes hopeful by the end of the film, and actually has a chip in his shoulder.
Agreed. People are still saying that Tobey is the best Peter, Andrew’s the best Spider-Man, and Tom’s the best at both. But let’s face it. Peter B Parker blows all of them away. He perfectly encapsulates everything that Peter Parker is. Now, I personally wouldn’t go as far to say this, but the fact that this Peter has everything that current comic era Spider-Man doesn’t speaks volumes. This Peter got to be what 616 Spider-Man isn’t. He got married with MJ, hope they got to have their child when we see him again in Across the Spider-Verse.
He’s more accurate than comic Spider-Man at this point. He actually goes through shit the doesn’t get erased in two issues.
@@milesmorales-intothespider9861I'm pretty sure they mean live action spider men buddy
@@milesmorales-intothespider9861 you got your wish
@Editor Noob nope, they usually mean movie spiderman, but Peter b still blows em outta the water
I always believed the two Parkers in the movie to be between a version of how Spiderman would work in fiction and how Spiderman would work in real life.
Nah, even in fiction Peter gets the short end of the stick almost every time lol

1610 Peter, blonde Peter, is still something incredible. The scene in which he gets kicked under the collider. He mutters to himself “I’m tired” - he is flawed, but he can’t be. He can’t mess up and he can’t look weak. It’s heroic in a sense. Both Peter B and Blonde Peter are two sides of the same coin.
I loved this video so much ❤
i think he represents an idealized version of peter. as a spidey, hes fairly normal and if anything was getting his ass kicked all movie. but as a peter parker? he had everything going for him and was living a (supposedly) perfect life. although like you said, him saying “im tired”, him being really humble with his “anyone can be spiderman” line, and his death.
@@demifolk8940I mena he did have a breakdown during Spidey bells about how he wants to do more than fight crime, being a sellout and lacking artistic integrity
My only gripe with this video is how hard he shit on Blonde Peter. The way I see it, Blonde Peter had it all and was still willing to lay down his life with no hesitation. If that’s not a heroic embodiment of spider-man idk what is. Sure he’s got it all, which means he has more to lose but he still does the work.
@@daveyjoneslocker4703 I agree. It is easy to be a hero and put your life on the line if you have nothing personal to live for. If your life is good, you'd think twice before jumping into mortal danger, but Blonde Peter doesn't hesitate despite having a life to go back to after work.
Now that i see this, isn't the "I'm tired" part of the bigger picture where the universe was trying to correct itself by killing Blonde Peter off so there could not be two Spider Men in the same universe?
What makes me laugh is that Marvel did one more day to “keep peter Young”
When this peter who is Explicitly older and has dealt with adult things like a divorce is prolly one of the best received versions of Peter in Years.
There is just a delicious irony in that
God, I remember being 10 at the time and thinking how terrible One More Day was. If even a young kid like could tell character assassination happening before their eyes, you know you fucked up.
Indeed.
@@thegungerbrospodcast7671 i was around the same age and was so pissed. I’m still pissed.
@The Gunger Bros Podcast I hated it too. The Peter I knew growing up had grown and aged, he was a teacher and an adult, he felt like a real person. Not a character forever locked in a repeating cycle of high school drama.
The writers and editors at marvel are shaking with fear at the mention of peter b parker i 100% know it
Society needs more depictions of Spider-Man like Peter B. Parker.
In a similar vein the Peter in the current Spider-Man games is a good evolution of the character. He laughs and jokes but theirs moments when you can tell it’s more for himself, he’s been doing this for 8 years and has almost got it figured out but he made a lot of mistakes and continues to make them. He dated and broke up with MJ because MJ felt like she couldn’t compete with Spider-Man for Peter’s attention, he’s lost friends, family but continues going in spite of that. Then Miles shows up and he sees a Spider-Man that could use the help he didn’t get when he started. Miles asks him if the job ever gets easier after accidentally killing his best friend and Peter doesn’t really answer. You know that the answer is No but he never fully brings himself to say it. The trailer for the second game you can see that a lot of that buried frustration and anger that comes with being Spider-Man will bubble to the surface thanks to Venom.
@@Broomer52 i ain’t reading that shit
This is why spider man 2 is still one of my fav granted tobey may not be comic accurate sometimes but the struggles and his character in that movie is almost as close to Peter B.
@@zachjesalva7696I wouldn’t say it’s close to the struggles of Peter B, but he definitely had the toughest life out of the live action trio.
Especially since we don’t really know anything about what happened to Garfield’s Spidey after TASM2
Why did I read this in J. Jonah Jameson's voice
"WE NEED DEPICTIONS OF SPIDER-MAN"
"We love to see our hero grow up with us."
See, that right there. Right freaking there, Marvel.
I don't think anyone from marvel can see your comment
@@anonymouslucario285nobody thinks so anyway?
You feel so bad for him. He’s like a war veteran, he’s seen and done things that have scarred him, he’s lost so many people dear to him and it’s taken it’s toll on him and he’s tired of it all.
That alone is what makes him the more relatable.
@@ajstudios9210
I know right, when you look back at the comics you see characters like Tony or Captain America or Thor, yes they had bad things happen in they’re life but they pretty much have everything they want and have little to no worries whereas Peter has none of that he’s trying to make up for his mistakes after Uncle Ben, he’s struggles all the time to make ends meet and it fills him with anxiety and he struggles to juggle being Spider-Man and Peter Parker and protect the people he cares about. He’s the most down to earth hero in the Marvel universe.
Best thing about Peter B is when asked for advice on being Spiderman, he doesn't reach for inspiration or life lessons... he tells you to double down on the baby powder at the joints and disinfect the mask. That's a true sign of experience, knowing the little tricks that make the big ones easier.
He's a spidey who hasn't been rebooted to hell and back, of course everybody loves him.
He had a chance to grow
What???
@@blandwagon374e's comparing him to comics peter who always have a new storyline that's revert backs his character development to make him more likable to younger audiences but in turn makes him more unlike able, and makes his suffering 10x more
Notice how when he tells his backstory, he doesn’t even mention uncle ben. He just said “im pretty sure you know the rest”. Lol he knows ppl getting tired of hearing the same old story
And he's a Peter had gotten a happy ending.
what i find interesting is that I viewed the blonde Peter as being the PERFECT Spider-Man, he was the Spider-Man in all the dimensions to have a stable life while all the others have some personal problems. he’s with the women he loves, aunt may is still alive, and he generally has the most success as Spider-Man (both beloved by the people, a number of endorsement deals, and a variety of equipment/tech out the wazoo) this makes the struggle miles has about being Spider-Man all the more intense because he’s not just trying to be the next Spider-Man, he’s trying to fill the shoes of the “best” Spider-Man. B. Parker on the other hand has significantly less luck or fortune as spidey and has done it for so many years to the point he’s jaded which ironically makes him the best mentor for miles since being jaded means you done it for so long he knows everything. (The film shows this by him calling any kill switch device a “goober” since there always is one, gives practical advice like baby powder under the suit and new kingpin would say “you got three days”)

Tobey was the Spider-Man of my childhood, Andrew was the Spider-Man of my teenage years, and now Jake Johnson is the Spider-Man of my adulthood
You're a genius. He became a father
I like both Peters in into the spider verse but right now I'm gonna make a hit of a defense of blonde Peter.
Blonde Peter is doing better than most Soider-Men in the universe, but he's still nit perfect and is starting to tire out. In the fight with prowler he says "I am so tired" and while it may be just from the fight i think he means in general. And in his Christmas song "Spidey bells" he has an existential crisis mid recording about him being a clebrity now and losing artistic integrity and how he wants to do so much more than be spider-man. We're shown so little of him that the only tragedy we really know about involving him is Uncle Ben's death. He's doing better than most peters but he's still not perfect.
Blond Peter Parker was running on an edge in a balancing act with success until he died.
You're so right because when Blond Peter said that he was tired, it really felt like he meant it in general. He spent so long being the perfect spider-man, even right before his death when he reassured Miles by telling him he was alright, that he "always gets up". I don't agree with the video when he says Blonde Peter is an empty shell because to me, it felt more like he was suffering in silence as exhaustion slowly got to him. My interpretation is that you cannot be the perfect spiderman, because what awaits you is exhaustion.
"When Spiderman wins, Peter loses." Then this means that a perfect spiderman would just end up crushing Peter, no ?
(english isn't my first language, sorry if it doesn't make sense)
Something that struck me about Peter B is that throughout all of Into The Spiderverse, we can see Peter's confidence in what he does, his self-assurance when up against all kinds of danger. Peter's able to face it all with a Spiderman's familiar bluster, but tinted with a little world-weary cynicism.
But standing at May's doorstep, seeing his beloved aunt whom he had to bury, that woman who raised him and whom he loved like a mother... *"I'm not ready for this."*
One of my favourite stages of Peter's story was when I was growing up, in the comics he went back to Midtown High as a science teacher, there were stories about him trying to help the kids in his classes both as a mentor and as Spider-Man. It was great, grounded storytelling that showed a really satisfying development for the character. He was going back to where he started but trying to make it better for the kids having troubles like he did.
Peter as a science teacher fit so well. I loved it when I read it. It also showed that Peter's old neighborhood went to the dogs and the somewhat successful public school he went to as a teenager went to hell when he moved to college, and then to his own apartment. So him showing up again at his old school and doing his part on setting things back on track helps.
ABSOLUTELY. I really loved that aspect of the JMS run.
Man you really hit why I loved this version of Peter Parker didn't skip a beat and got the essence of spider man/Peter Parker down, solid video
one of the elements i liked about peter B parker is how he kinda subverted the whole superhero trope by having him be someone whos been in the job for a really long time, and he knows the basic formula for everything by now. like that scene where he watched kingpin talking to doc ock and he was like "this is pretty standard villain talk you get used to it after a while"
like nothing really phases him anymore. hes been down this road over and over again, and he knows the whole superhero routine by now
It's awesome.
just as i expected, this video absolutely TROUNCES the one i did two weeks ago!! you did awesome on this one synth!
Nah, I definitely prefer yours, but thanks!
great to see that my two favorite Spider-man content creators know of each other's existence.
"let him be a dad"
He got what he wanted
The juxtaposition of Green Goblin licking Ultimate Spidey's mask, and then Peter B saying "Disinfect the mask" is brilliant.
Discovering this video after across the spiderverse I smiled when you said "Let peter be a dad!"
I heard someone talk about how the movie was belittling him and made him seem incompetent. That couldn't be further from the truth. He showed up Miles in skill the entire movie. He is experienced, but with that experience came trauma, hardship, and burnout. He's realistic. He was a great depiction of the original Spiderman, and Sony did him justice.
Spidey doesn’t work best as an adult, he works best as a true human. It doesn’t matter what age he is, as long as he keeps progressing, improving, and growing up
I agree. Completely! About, Holland's Spider-Man, I heard your comments and suddenly had why I felt that interpretation was so empty-- validated. Thank you for rallying me to want this form of Peter.
I never fully realized how bad the "Peter is always teen" stigma was until I saw this movie and the marketing of Spider-Man PS4. The fact that one of their main pushes for the game was that Spider-Man was older really made me realize how bad the stigma has gotten. Absolutely cannot wait to see Peter B. Parker again in Across the Spider-Verse!
Peter b parker is marvel’s biggest fear
In the real world I feel connected with Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker, but as I'm growing up I'm starting to feel more mature and connected with Peter b Parker.
Seeing him with his kid being so happy and excited about being a parent is great.
Not only is he the most accurate adaptation of comic book spider-man, he manages to be that while actually getting a happy ending

Peter B. Parker is the Spider-Man fans deserve to have.
i've had fun with the holland movies and have gained a better appreciation of that version after watching no way home, but you're absolutely on point. you've opened up to me the layers in peter b. seeing blonde peter as the 'real' peter looking at how the world sees spider-man the idealized icon.
I've been rekindling my love of the comics spidey stuff as of recent, and I'm very happy that the algorithm decided to show me your channel!
The points of being a father to miles and seeing himself in miles is perfectly mirrored in ATSV when Peter B tells miles he had a kid in hopes they’d be like Miles.
The truth is he is what we know adult life to be, a struggle. Not saying the Blonde Peter didn't have a message but he died a hero, he had everything to lose and he chose to be a hero. So it was eye catching to see Peter B also wanted to do the same it just solidified that no matter which Peter you are they're still the hero, Spider man.
I like how across the spiderverse made it a point to fight that statement of Spider-Man has to be a story about tragedy. Also love this take on Peter B.

Okay buddy, I was enjoying the video until the 6 minute mark 🤣 the thing is that we don’t know what blonde Peter’s life was like maybe it was tragic but he never never let it bring him down and he was only focusing on the happier aspects of his life. Plus, always liking Peter when he’s getting the shit kicked out of him is boring as well. I like seeing him happy and successful, it can still be relatable, just like the Blonde Peter

I See Peter B Parker As Myself As Adult In The Future🗿🍷
I always saw Peter B. Parker as the original Spiderman before One More Day. He's the same guy that lost Gwen to Norman Osborn's Green Goblin, found Venom in Secret Wars, was buried by Kraven and went against Carnage in Maximum Carnage. The Peter Parker we knew and loved from those times that has aged as much as we did since we last saw him. Even his name gives away this truth: for those who don't know, Peter's full name has always been Peter Benjamin Parker.
We could've had Peter be a dad but Joe Quesada fucked it all up with One More Day and pretty much erased the most beautiful moment in Marvel history Peter and Mary Jane getting married.
Honestly, your constant mention of "Spider-Man needs to suffer, his life is always going to be one of tragedy, and hardship" is an interesting thing to hear from someone after having watched Across the Spiderverse.
No no no about blonde peter your wrong in the Christmas album he talks about specifically In song spider bells you can hear mid threw the song blonde peter having a mid life crisis then breaking down also talking about how he wants to do something else then be Spider-Man making it seem like if he would have lived he would have been exactly like peter b so I’m pretty sure he wasn’t as perfect as he seemed in the movie and closer to peter b Parker then we think and another thing I noticed is I think he’s blonde because in the ultimate universe comics on some shades that peters hair would switch from brown to a dark blonde sometimes so I like to think that’s the case more then him being Ben Reilly
The blonde was just to make them visually distinct.
@@e_knees8816 they didn’t really have to do that since the 2 characters didn’t meet or haven’t yet
@@gxlaxy7998 Having two entirely identical characters is a bad idea. It was smart of them to make it more distinct, as it even helped this video be more articulate.
@@e_knees8816 I mean they wouldn’t be exactly the same more like one has darker hair or something not to mention one would be visually younger
I would quibble that Blonde Peter is an idealized, empty man in a mask. We see hints that things are starting to weigh him down--"I'm so tired"--and there's the quiet humanity we see just before his death when he is talking to Miles.
Peter B. Parker is my all-time favorite Spiderman/Peter Parker too. Thanks for an excellent character analysis.

4:38 Peter saying “The moment that I’m losing the fight…” always makes me laugh
The success and popularity of Peter B. Parker should signal to Marvel that a married Peter Parker was never a problem and is what people actually want to see. He can still be a guy in his late 20s (or whatever he is now), and you don't even need to make him a parent in the "present" (although Mayday should absolutely be canon in a future period), but if theyre gonna insist on having Miles and Peter in the same universe, Miles can take the role of the kid hero trying to figure out who he is. Peter needs to be allowed to evolve into at least a big brother/mentor figure (like Batman is to the Robins) who's been around the block a few times, has a better grasp on what he's doing, and has begun to establish himself and go on to bigger and better things. Say whatever you want about the late JMS era on ASM, theee were some bad editorially mandated decisions, but the status quo where Peter was a professional science teacher/professor akd formally becoming a part of the wider superhero community by joining the New Avengers while married to Mary Jane was and still is the best modern status quo for the character since the Michelienie run in the late 80s, early 90s. Heck, even making him a tech researcher at Horizon Labs was one of Slott's good ideas early on. Perhaps make him a young science professor/researcher at his alma mater, Empire State University. When he's not in the lab or in the lecture hall, he's either off with his wife (who they should return to being his wife, dangit) and friends or out as Spuder-Man, either solo, mentoring Miles, or alongside the Avengers or Fantastic Four.
Let's just say I'm glad for no 3ay home because it really touched on how Peter actually is. Peter before was more of an adaptation from the ditko comics were his problems are minor in high school which is fine it's nice seeing him happy but after in the john romita era he goes through the hardest stuff ever and realizes being spider man means you will go through hard times and getting back up is not easy.
I’m glad Paul doesn’t exist in this version of Peter as well

bro using that PS spiderman theme at the beginning almost had me in tears. That game was super tragic and full of pain which as you have pointed out is exactly why it was Spiderman.
As growing up a big spider man fan, I had tears in my eyes when I literally first laid eyes on this version of spider man because I knew the second he explain his life story that he was the flawed, yet amazing, heroic, relatable character that I loved since I was four. I loved this version of spider man he’s the hero that we all love that is just older and beaten. However, I kinda like to view his relationship with miles as more of an uncle and nephew relationship especially with mayday now being born and since it comes more full circle with the very person who Peter did all this for.
"Everytime Spider-man wins, peter loses." this phrase is just too good
