I wish I could tell her how much I appreciate her work. She was something else. Very unique person in every way. I saw her first in the Poseidon Adventure on tv back when I was 8 or 9. I could be off a bit but I'm 52 now. I love that movie. Shelly always stood out and as I've been revisiting this movie I took the time to view her other work and it's impressive and moving to me. She's great in my opinion. I love you Shelly Winters ❤️

I remember an interview in which she talked about her discussions with the director of A Patch of Blue. She was trying to get all Method-y with the director and finding backstory and analyzing. And he apparently said "No. I just want you to be a bigoted bitch. There's no back story to that." And she was eminently detestable in that movie. Incredible performance.

I have a photo of myself at two years old, playing with Shelley Winters and Lana Turner in Lana's house. My parents were invited there a few times in the 60's, back when they were performing at a popular nightclub. I've always regretted not stopping to at Musso and Frank's to say hello and tell Ms. Winters how much my parents enjoyed their friendship with her. :)

If you read her bios, you know she is smart in her thinking and career choices, finance too, but not so where husbands are concerned..but she enjoyed life, chose the stage above cinema or tv, l over being a mum and was Marilyn's flatmate. And not afraid to be support of dowdy.... She is too honest.

Really enjoyed that, she was a great raconteur. She was also dead right about Olivier - his early film appearances were awful, he was rigid! As an elderly man he suddenly thawed out, Battle of Britain, Boys from Brazil and A Bridge-too Far he was fine. Shelley’s performance in The Night of the Hunter was great - that is one scary film!
