Thanks Simone!!
do you think creme with aloe is important? thank you
Thank you for the tutorial.
Do you ever put cardboard between the front and back of the tshirt? Will this work on a tshirt that has 10% nylon/poly in it? Thanks
Yes I think you could put cardboard inside to keep it stretched out. I think it would work on a fabric with a little bit of synthetic fibers, but it might make the colors not as bright.
what was the soda ash for? and does your dye bleeds when washing? what are your tips to retain the dye? do you use fixative?
The soda ash preps the cellulose fibers to receive the dye. Procion dye gives brilliant results. I rinsed it with cold until the water runs clear and washed right away and dried it as soon as I got it out of the washer to prevent bleeding. I didn’t use fixative.
Do you prefer to dye the front side of a shirt first and then the back or vice versa
Thanks for watching. The first pass is going to be the strongest as far as the dye sticking. So I usually do the front first.
I just bought a large tie dye kit from Hobby Lobby. The brand is Tulip. Can I use that dye to do the marbling technique?
I’m not sure if tulip will work. You could try a small test on a swatch of fabric. Let me know if you try it.
Yes it will work. It won’t be as vibrant though because that’s how tulip is
When mixing the dye and water how much of each do you know to add, and also when adding shave cream to it, how much shave cream do you add. Thank you so much
I don’t remember exactly because I made this video about 2 years ago, but probably about 4 tablespoons?
Do you put the shirt on when it is wet or do you let it dry first?
I wring it out from the soda ash solution- so it's damp still. Thanks!
Can you use polyester shirts for this and sublimate images over the tie dye?
I don't recommend using polyester for dyeing.
what we can use as a substitute for shaving cream
I've only used shaving cream for this effect- let me know if you try something else- you can always do a small test swatch.
Will this work on carhartt jackets?
Maybe, I recommend using a test swatch for new fabrics and to get a handle on the swirling technique. If it's 100% cotton it will probably work.
How many colors can you use for the marble technique?
You can use as many as you want you just have to mix them up separately.
Subtitulos en español
There should be Spanish subtitles now. Thanks for watching!
Can this be done with silk?
I’ve never done it on silk- only cotton. You have to wash the fabrics so maybe a “washed silk”? Let me know how it goes if you try it.
Do you think this would work on denim?
yes I think it would. I've done it also on a thermal waffle texture and it worked.
@@OnyxArtStudios I saw the waffle one and then watched this tutorial! Thank you! I was concerned about the thickness of the fabric. I'll let you know how it goes!
@@emilyfox1824 how did it go?
Why is the materials mostly soaked in soda ash before dyeing pls?
I’m using procion dyes and soda ash is necessary to make the dyes color fast
why Ara you dipping t shirt befor dying into soda ash water? is it must
Yes soda ash primes the fabric for the procion dye and makes sure the dye sticks to the fibers. It's the secret to rich brilliant colors.
You didn't remove the shaving cream off before letting it batch
Sometimes a little shaving cream sticks to it and that's fine.
