The R110 A New Tech Train @ 233 St (1995)

- In this view coming into 233rd St. on the 2 line on January 9,1995, is the R-110A New Technology Train, the prototype for the R142 and R142A cars which now are in service on the 2,4,5 and 6 lines. The train was being tested, which is why the doors were opened on the "off" side. There were no passengers on board. The R110A and it's sister R110B (designed to be tested in the IND or B Division) were first delivered in 1992. The MTA was looking to replace it's aging fleet of subway cars with New Technology cars for it's next generation of subway car equipment. The R110A train was built by Kawasaki and the R110B train was built by Bombardier. At first glance the R110A can look almost like the R142 cars, however the differences are with the car numbers which are numbered from 8001 thru 8010. Also, the 'A' cars (cars equiped with a motormans' cab) do not have the red strip by the doors behind the cab and it doesn't have the red cover by the headlights. The R-110A train ran until 2000. It is currently in storage in 239 St. Yard. There are currently no plans to reactivate it.

Like others said before, it sounds like the TTC T1. It also sounds like the Taipei Metro C301. One of the best tractions sounds ever heard! Great video!
Holy crap! So this is how the R110As sounded like! Thanks for sharing :)
Yep
RIP 1993-2001
R110 A on 2 line
R110 B on A line
Retired on 2001
E Train 8 Aveune Local r110b was also on the C line
E Train 8 Aveune Local i rode these trains when i was 7 in 1996
Sofia Tatis Cool, Lucky You
Maxhouse No, they were retired due to some problems
Luigi Tube no they weren’t meant to stay they were prototypes
You're a 90s kid if you rode on that train car!
I wish i was a 90's kid to ride both R110A and R110B
I was born in 96 unfortunately. I do remember seeing them by the transit yard in the Bronx.
I rode the R110b when I was one or two years old.
If I traveled back in time I would ride the R110A and R110B!
cetmel80 I really wish time travel to the past was possible😩
1:07 This is the same traction motor used on the Siemens P2000, a train in LA Metro.
and ttc t1
Whats the traction motors name?
AEG (ADtranz) AC Traction Motors: Model 1501A, 150 HP (110 kW), Three-Phase, Four-Pole.
@@eduardososa843 AEG Westinghouse to be precise
It’s actually the same VF drive, not traction motor. The VF drive is what creates the sounds - the motors just act as the speakers. This VF drive is also found on the P2000 in LA, the TTC T1 in Toronto, and the SLRVs in Dallas. It’s a very nice-sounding VF drive that’s sadly no longer in use today.
That propulsion on that train is dope. It sounds better than aR142 and R160Alstom
Geoquill101 e
Geoquill101 ¡
Pdiddy03 it is the same as the t1 cars in toronto. I have fond memories of those.
t3subde the T1s in Toronto is still in service it's an AdTranz motor that is why it sounds like the T1
@@humzah.saleem Bombardiers R179s suck. The things that happen to those trains suck
Finally, someone came out with videos of both the R110A (130) and R110B (131). Now nobody ever had MP3, or MP4 files of the R110A until now, so it was nice it was finally uploaded. I did ride the R110A, and actually saw both models displayed in the NYC Transit Museum when they were first displayed to the public in November, 1992. This was a nice thing to see, but it is a shame that both models are OOS, and R110B's 3004,5,6 are seperated due to parts taken out of them.
Man this indeed sounded like the T1. Incredible.
the r110 was the original
@@Izon14n The R110A is still in service right? Oh wait...... T1 still going strong
thats because they use the same propulsion system
Thank you for posting this up for us to see. I've been wondering what the R110As have sounded like for so long and now I finally know!
Oh keep the goods coming man, great video!
if peoplefrom tronto came here and saw this train on service with the ttc 1 proplusion id bet they would be confused.GREAT VID!!!!!
All i can say is WOW! You sure are bring history in!! O_O!
This is an excellent video. You know after this you're gonna be a celebrity in the train buff circles? :]
wow this is amazing, where are these trains kept now? and you don't just get to see a little history of the train but you also get a feel of that 1995 atmosphere ahhh how I miss the 90's
Sounds like a T1.
Username is Password is Username. I think it has the same engine sound as the T1
David Ko it’s the sa,e propulsion system as the T1
Toronto Transit Fan and the Siemens P2000 in LA
@@David-yc6ph Correct currently the T1 has the most time longer than the R110A since these retired
Sound like C301 from Taipei metro
THANK U SOO MUCH FOR THW VIDEO NOW I LOVE THE R110A
It a great thing you had that kind of camera back then!
Now I know where the TTC learned from when they ordered the T1 subway cars! I approve!
Must of been very revolutionary at the time.
The Kinki-Shayro Light Rail Vehicles used for DART have the same inverter
Hard to believe that the R110 cars are now over 30 years old even though they are pump cars now for pumping flood water out of the subway system. The first R142 cars built in 1999 are now 25 years old 😳
how old were u at this time??
2 😭😭
Why does it matter his age?
I was -9 years old.
I didn't even born yet.
Sad fact: ALL R110As are now pump trains😭😭😭. I actually hate when the MTA decides to make the R110As make into pump trains instead of placing them at the New York Transit Museum.😡
Conductor #81000 William H McCue Sr. 1934-2015. I love and miss you poppa. Your spirit lives on forever. We did it daddy.
It retired in 1996, so sad that the R110A retired/came out of retirement.
Delerious Spice bio R110A RETIED IN 2000 AND THE R110B RETIRED IN 1996 CAUSE OF TH BRAKES
Hector Rivera no R110A had the brakes problems and both R110A and R110B stopped running in 2001
@@hectorrivera3887 110B retired in 2001. I have proof...
Ree
@CrazyAboutA380s you are very correct on that, and I like the propulsion as well. the way I heard the C301 made by kawasaki in the same year as the R110A in 1992, they both sound alike. although the T1 by bombardier has that the same way, but very differently the way it sounds.
0:57 what did he say?
Ikr lol
CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT VID! lolz
That train is like the R160s and the R142s put together.
More like the r62a and the r142 together
The motors on these trains sound similar to the Toronto T1 subway cars!
@4P3607 I'll let you hear the announcements in the next video! Stay tuned.
Just learned that these sound like the Bombardier T1 in Toronto
And also Taipei Metro C301 pre-refurbishment
@CrazyAboutA380s absolutely, when I heard the C301 in videos, it mostly sounds like that, both the R110A and C301 were made by Kawasaki in the same year in 1992. the T1 trains were made in 1995-2001 by bombardier in canada, although it may sound a bit the same but differently.
@XxLiLGiJoE17xX I've been waiting for the R1110a Tech-Train clips for so long and now they've finally arrived. We want some more of dem R110A clips.
I wish this was still in service
@Roboboy Them Bombardier motors are also on Alstom, right?
OMG TTC 0:49 The reason why it sounds like the TTC because it’s probably part of the TTC
@Transitviews GOD BLESS YOU
@DjHammersBVEStation Yes, I do have more videos.
Do you have anymore videos of the R110A in service
Hey that's my stop!!
I always wanted to see an R110A be on testing but I wasn't in New York on that time. It was 1995.
@AdmiralArcher its too bad the propulsion system from the R110A won't be compatible with the R142/R142As out there, if that was possible.
What did that worker say to you when he popped out of the door?
@pspmerr We need some more of them R110a clips.
0:57 That Accent
Yes
Have you anymore of the R110 clips, you know, the ONE that makes all the stops?
I miss that Tech-Train.
We need the REAL Nostalgia Train back: The R100a. The TA better bring that back.
To those who hate r110a. You lucky that the train is gone now so be happy and stop complaining about it anymore.
you are correct on that
Might explain why they sound similar then, since Taipei's C301 are made by Kawasaki as well.
@AdmiralArcher im not sure how it sounds yet, some say it might be the R142A motors since 10 of the R142As are taken out of service for testing on the (7) line and its being retro fitted as an R188 proto. who knows, will soon find out when they arrive.
If the r62 are here these train are supposed to be here too
yo this is crzy how old are you like 100?? lol you actually have videos from like 10 years ago thats so cool! i bet you dont have R68 D train still running on the Brighton Line like ave J i would LOVE to see that!
0:58 - What did he say to you? Also I couldn't make out what you said at the end of the video, except I heard the words "new tech" and "yard".
You have a friend in the subway cool
I have never seen an r110 2 train doors open up at the other side 😯
Its burn-in testing
like this train!
@PuertoRican88 R188? How'll that sound? I hope they'll have the R110a motors.
wow this train of Today was out in service in 1995 before I was born in 96 wow.
@Transitviews k thanks!
The propulsion is beutiafull!
That train was the best
Bro images Rails Unlimited added the R110A and the R110B. That would br friggin awesome
this has the same propulsion engine as the ttc t1
The engine sounds like the T1 ttc subway cars
That's actually the full train, as the R110A was built as two 5-car sets.
The 110’s are my favourite NYC subway train even if am British they showed what NYC could have become if it got better funding
i liked and it said 200 likes on the video
Evil Gamer oh hey
back in the year of 2000 the (6) used to have Redbirds and r142A's
Milton R142AProduction really?
Really? Prove it!
It did had R142as and Redbirds back then and some R62A lol I wrote this
Comment when I was 13 lol naw but the R110A ran on the 2
That R110A uses the same traction system as some of the Expo Line trains in LA.
redphone243 and blue line
Because they were made roughly around the same time period and company(I think)
#OMG I am speechless after that propulsion. IT WAS SICK! 1000 times better than the R142A! It actually sounded like a low-pitch R142A.
holy crap this video is far past awesome!
just one thing: what did the announcements sound like?
You can search it up I think.
And lol sorry for being 12 years late…
@Redbirdfan33 I certainly did! Just posted a video of the R110B. I guess by now you probably saw the upload of it.
@gamesfreak699 I know, but they are better than some other announcements in the subway. Especially the ENY lines (except the (L)), and the (A)(C)(F) & Franklin Av (S).
@123valid I said and was thinking the same thing !
sounds neat for an NY MTA train.
has a T1 sound
@AdmiralArcher there is an R142A made by Kawasaki, now the next one is the R188 being made by Kawasaki.
No propulsion is more relaxing then the R142A/R188/R143
@LightningFever86 Yes, and I loved that train. I don't know why them R142s by Bombardier came. The MTA should've made some more R110As and VENTED them r142s.
This station looks a lot different now
Thoes R110 looks like the proto-type for the newer R142-142A. But the R110 look like a mix of R62 for the side panels and R142 for the head end of the train look.
do you know they are adding the T train in the future
Did it has the TTC T1's Traction Motors?
Aventanario i think so
30 years ago:new r110a-b,now:r211
Sound like the Siemens P2000 in the Los Angeles Metro!
1st time a r110a was ever heard lol
Wow they sound like some London Underground trains.
@northlanderdude actually these are Kawasaki cars with adtranz propulsion system. there's an info about it on wikipedia
Wikipedia is not accurate
@4P3607 here we go again with foaming smh lol. but yes it is awesome to see an R110!
He be like “don’t record the train”
Its an early R142. I saw it one time pass by Atlantic Ave.
This train was retired due to brake problems and fire damage.
Sound like Siemens P2000 door chimes like P2000!
@andreebrooklyn I agree with you 100%. In fact they should ask KAWASAKI to recycle the R110A with the propulsion standing alone.
Sounds like a c301 in Taipei MTR
The R110A was built by kawasaki right?
TTC T1:whos stole my accelerator engine?
R46 : R110A STOLE IT
R110A : uhh yea
It was me 😰
Jesus im getting T1 vibes from this
Yessir
those are Bombardier cars, the TTC T1 subway cars in Toronto sound the same.
Omg it’s a old train car
