I would love to hear more of the fundamentals, not just overtones. Thanks.

Giovanni Koll She's playing ponticello on purpose. Trust me, this woman knows what she's doing.

+Brent Breault>But does she LIKE what's she's doing? When she plays, it seems like she's in pain, or deeply worried about something. With those low frequencies I guess you FEEL it as much as you hear it. On a second look, if you try hard and imagine that the instrument isn't there it looks like she's during surgery or delivering a baby, or doing pottery. Of course all require very skillful hands, which she has. I wonder if this is what happens when you're the last person to sign up for band?
In this room shouldn't SHE be wearing the pants? I bet the dude and his dainty instrument can go home in VW Beetle. She however, had better warm up that 18 wheeler!

      1) she's clearly exerting herself.
      2) these are Norwegians. they're impassive by nature.

@@delstanley1349 YES, you FEEL the bass. The lower the note, the more you feel it in addition to hearing. It is a combined sensation that you recieve. At the Phoenix school for the deaf, the kids would come up to the stage and stand as close to the bass amp as they could and they'd dance to the "Feel" of the beat. They actually did quite well keeping time.

in the 1850s, Berlioz wrote in his instrumentation book that the octobass was to be tuned to 16 _foot_ C (=32 Hz) as the lowest string...not 16 _Hz_ C (= 32 foot C on organ).
this put it an octave below the cello. ie: it was meant as a _bigger sounding_ double bass, not so much a _lower pitched_ one.

Not all people can ear the menacing pre earthquake growl noise as musical tones, harmony perception at ultra low frequencies it's a very rare virtue and a torture if them live in a high seismic activity country like Japan or Chile.

Wait if you have that and live near seismic activity is it a constant rumble

Even the coolest instrument might be underwhelming if no one is using it in a good way.

The interviewer doesn't know anything about sound wave and frequencies. She's as lost on this subject as I would be on Mars. Then the woman is having a hard time explaining her thoughts in English. She knows what she is talking about but is having a hard time translating on the fly.
