"Reading the card explains why the card should be banned."
As you can see your honor, it has the words "Counter target spell". I rest my case and hope for a ban.
Literally just making the land enter tapped makes this card way less deserving of a ban. It would still be super busted, you are ramping or drawing 2x per creature on the board with the combo out, but it wouldn't just instantly win the game the second it's assembled so often.
@@doodeedoodee tapped and 2x activation per turn per board (not creature) and it's 100% fair
Playing any good commander vs bad casual decks looks the same. Nadu is one of the most broken commanders, but it has its weakness. its a one-trick pony, mess-up that trick and deck folds to every thing. Same thing people said about tergrid, and it sucks. If it is banned in Brawl, sure dont care its not magic. But in Commander nadu is a good commander, thats all, probably not even the best simic commander. So if you think he is broken you just suck, sorry. Again in Brawl it might be broken as you cant play good cards.
Like a run away moped committing vehicular slaughter
Thirty years of magic:
1994: bolt the bird
2024: ban the bird
the fact they intentionally made the bird unboltable is the most absurd shit lul
The fact that the land comes in untapped is absurd.
Hell yes. Most artifacts that cost 2 end up coming into play tapped (mind stone being an exception because it’s colorless mana I think).
You pair this with a single mana generating creature on the field, and you’ve gotten insane value out of this 3 mana creature.
When was the last time such an OP card had to be banned on MtG online? Feel like it was a green creature.
The most op thing about the card actually is the quotation mark placement. If it was moved so you could only trigger twice total per turn, it would be a lot less silly (there would still be flicker stuff but that’s relatively ok)
That and it's unlimited per turn when it's such an open ended ability, being that it counts ANY targeted ability and heck why not it gives the ability to every creature not just itself for some reason. It's hard to think of a commander aside from maybe Golos or Chulane where there's so little thought needed to make a deck that doesn't just function but obliterates the game.
@@MattTorres yeah this would be a lot more fair if it just said spell
@@MattTorres the only card I can think of that breaks the game this much is leovold
Things must be serious when LegenVD has to take a stand against a card that resembles a Hoopoe
Looks more like an ibis, to me it looks specially like the bare-faced ibis (Phimosus infuscatus).
“Apologies your honour, Free Bird was on.”
What minute that happens?
@@antoniomendes7171 It's not actually in the video
@@astuteanansi4935 We just need someone who is willing to sit through those steps and triggers.
That bird is so free
Yo dawg, we heard you like extremely long non interactive turns so we put a land on your draw so you can ramp while you ramp
Also a PS2 in the trunk, cause ya know, all those car meets gonna wanna be playin Spyro.
Me at end of first match "Oh so it's broken - broken 😲😲"
It isn't often you see LVD asking for a ban so you know it's bad. If it was only 2 total triggers per turn I think it would be reasonable. But 2 per creature is BUSTED!
there is a good reason most cards are printed with "land enters tapped".
when it's turn 3 and your whole deck is on the battlefield
"Draw a card, if its a land put it on the battlefield" okay we GET IT wotc
Worst part it’s not even a draw effect, so it gets around Narset and Sheoldred hate!
Simic try not to be about drawing cards and playing lands challenge: impossible
@@why2k87That’s sort of the joke from WotC. Everyone always bashed on Simic commanders that all they ever do is play lands and draw cards. Technically, Nadu Winged Wisdom does neither. 😂
This bird is disgustingly good with Ivy and mutate spells
don't you dare
This bird is disgustingly good, period
This bird is disgustingly good
ftfy
i cant loose the feeling that they wanted for the abilty to only work 2 times per turn in general but someone fucked up somewhere
Yeah, something feels off about it.
Idk they have copped to that before and fixed it in oracle. If this was a genuine error they would’ve said that by now to prevent the impending Nadu summer.
I don't think so. Power level of MH3 is very high. It's balanced for Modern and Legacy where it's strong but maybe OK. It just happens to be completely busted in Commander and Brawl.
@@noodlesalad no, it's busted in modern too
@@noodlesaladall you need is to look at the Results of Pro Tour Amsterdam to realize that Nadu is really broken even for Modern well
This is the second time that they put a card designed for Legacy/Vintage in a straight to Modern product. And the end result will be the same for both cards (Cards that are too busted they would have to be banned in Modern)
At least WotC can nerf the card in Arena to put it back into the place it supposed to be. Just like how they had to do for the One Ring (which I hope it keeps its nerf after it rotates out of Alchemy)
Before Nadu: Shuko costed betwen 2-3 USD
After Nadu: Shuko skyrocket betwen 20-30 USD
Truly stonks
There are a few others that had similar spikes.
Specifically the one that makes any number of targets change color
Bird Up
TWICE for EACH CREATURE for EACH TURN!
Lands enters UNTAPPED and abilities gets triggered NO MATTER WHICH PLAYER TARGETS IT!
I’m pretty sure the card costs like 6 or 7mana, right?
And 3/4 flier, which makes it really hard to immediately take it down in red, and an evasive creature (so you can even use blue enchantment that triggers on damage dealt to players)
The worst part? you cant even bolt the bird lmao.
If they could just stop printing 1UG cards that were busted, it would be greatttttt.
It’s weird that this is the 3rd time. 😢
It's only missing it's name being 3 letters.
@@alysondavy2485 It's still only 2 syllables!
@@LegenVD That works since the rest are also only 2 syllables!
Classic. It's almost like ramping and drawing cards are the two most powerful things you can do in the game.
They didn't think that one through, huh?
I like his look though...
It's a shame to see good looking art in some busted simic landfall bs creature. Would've loved to put him in my decks for the looks.
Grenzo scooping on turn 3 has got to be a pretty strong indicator that Nadu is an issue.
I built a jank Nadu EDH deck with no ramp. Turn 6, I wind up with 8 million scute swarms. This is fine.
When I play ulalek, 90% of the time I meet Nadu, and it's a blood-curdling pain.
7 lands plus sprawl on turn 3...
LvD: "This is not normal"
XD
WHAT 👏 THE 👏 HELL 👏
"This is Nad ukay" might be your most tortured yet most glorious pun ever.
I love Brawl and this card has certainly been added to my instaconcede list with Rusko and Ragavan. I appreciate the content and fully agree with your conclusions at the end.
Fun fact:
I believe Nadu is based on the egyptian god Thoth. He patronizes knowledge but also is said to be the scribe of the dead, which is a fair name for Nadu, given the nonsense it provides.
And it just happens to be Oko colors too. When Simic breaks the game it really breaks the game.😆
Oko/Uro colors and Oko/Uro casting cost.
the fact that they even thought that card was worthy of printing is beyond me
We've finally found a worthy opponent - the mirror match 🤣🤣🤣
You could choose any two of the below options and it'd still be a decent card:
1: Restrict it to activating twice a turn total (instead of per creature)
2: Make the land come into play tapped
3: Have the option to scry to bottom if it's not a land (instead of drawing)
"of a spell or ability [an opponent controls]" got cleaved during the design process
31:18
Imagine trying to play this on paper.
I think we are banning this bird at my commander playgroup
20-30 minute turns it's hell
Notice how he plays against no golos decks! The arena balance team hasnt given a good weight score for Nadu! Or maybe they will update it to hell queue soon.
What's craziest about Nadu is that even if you whiff the trigger and the card that you reveal isn't a land, you just. . . get to draw a card effectively. When card advantage is the weakest payoff for a triggered ability, that card needs to be at the very least nerfed if not banned.
That personal stance at the end and the MVP text really got me!!
“This is not normal” 😂
This commander literally gives the bird to all other commanders, perhaps even Voja!
I know that busted stuff is to be expexted from a Modern Horizons set, but this bird!? SHEEEEEEEESH 🔥
"I fear no man. But that bird.......that bird scares me." 💯
I'm curious to take the bird in with my Voja deck.
It will be a glorious battle.
Imagine in real life how bad it is with the 0 cost equip cards.
A bird wizard terrorizes standard, and now brawl. What a time to be alive
I think 10:08 made your case pretty well - first time casting Nadu in the video and already it’s busted
Two possible solutions:
-either have the ability trigger a max of 2 times across all your creatures
-only have it apply to opponents' spells and abilities
The second solution would make his much weaker, but also much less interesting to build around. I think the first solution to be better in general
You could also argue that it bringing the lands untapped and being a 3 mana 3/4 with flying are some of the smaller things that push him even more over the edge, and could be looked at as well.
@@ender4101lands coming in untapped isn't a small thing, it's genuinely pushing the combo potential of Nadu through the roof. The card should be a 4 mana 1/2 with lands coming into play tapped
The obvious balanced nerf would be up to two times per PLAYER, rather than per creature. It would translate into always winning fights over removal, in the form of card advantage.
But I find almost insulting how izzet wizards winning on turn 3 or turn 2 combos with the hammer are perfectly fine and all of a sudden, if simic gets an objectively good card to be ON PAR, I repeat on par with the other aforementioned archetypes it's a problem. Historic is either busted for everyone or for nobody, this is straight up a double standard in my opinion. Brawl is a slightly different story because Nadu as a commander can be frustrating to play against admittedly. But even then, without 0 mana equipments he is more balanced than what people assume.
@@ausiidnd Okay, small might not be the right word, but it is less absurd than the other parts of the card. It would still be able to combo with cards it already runs, like Provisioner, Cobra, Nissa, etc. The may issue is how the effect is distributed among your creatures. The untapped lands just push it even further.
@@brakalanga7667 What does this card have to do with Izzet Wizards on Historic? It's a different format entirely, and Simic already has a BUNCH of great cards in Brawl, many which synergize very well with Nadu.
Wow really nice editing @1:08. What a nice visual
Who needs ASMR videos, when you have Nadu games to put you to sleep.
42:41
"We have a safekeeper..."
Ah, to keep Nadu sa...
".....to keep Nadu safe."
YIPPEE xD
Were all the play testers laid off or something? Or do interns get to design one card a set now.
21:56 when LVD sees what BIRD UP is from
I think the thing I hate is how it's targeted by anything so good luck with Targeted Removal since you're just giving them 2 triggers alongside the protection spell they brought
How many concessions would you like to see?
Nadu Deck: "Yes"
This might be the best commander I’ve ever played, I’m 8-2 (only losses have been to other Nadus)
Those layoffs hit the playtest department hard, I see. 😅Thanks for the great content as always
I wonder if they put the " in the wrong place on the card?
I like this style of quick deck tech
Imagine trying to play this and keep track of everything on a kitchen table.
This card is great in commander.....if you like playing solitaire
I'm in huge favor of a ban they will likely make an alchemy style nerf because I think this card is pushed to make simic playable in eternal formats. I also think mythweaver poc is a problem
The thing that both of these cards have in common is that the lands come in untapped. Why did we stop doing that? Who thought this was a good idea?
@@davidhower7095exactly.
There's a reason for this clause
They'll just put it in hell queue, which fixes the problem. The issue is that in brawl they take way too long to put broken commanders in the hell queue, even when everyone knows which ones should be sent there within a week.
*Plays Nadu: 90% result = opponent explodes.
I play in Historic and fun to play with midrange decks, and the matchmaking always pits me against minion of the mighty deck. Oftentimes I just put one land card and then I lose. I think WotC should ban cards like this instead.
Safekeeper you have to respond before the ability resolves to get a 2nd Nadu trigger , before it has shroud.
How dare you select the happy face.
do you think they meant it to work 2 times/turn total?
which you could still evade with Displacer Kitten
Even without 0 cost equip ability cards on arena, this card is so unfathomably busted. I have played maybe 50 games with it, ive lost i think twice. Once to tom bombadil and another to a toxic deck. Everyone else either scooped or got absolutely smoked because im casting an eldrazi titan or a craterhoof as early as turn 4.
strong flavor of Skullclamp
I love how universally (and justifiably) hated this card has instantly become lmao BIRD UP
I play it fairly (I don't play counter-spells).
@@Olematonnimi The fact that ppl can play counter magic in Nadu deck is absurd…
@Olematonnimi Any targeted removal still gets you value. You _cannot_ play this card 'fairly'. It is inherently unfair.
Even the Grenzo player was like nope 😂 YAH-BOOBAY
You are playing against BIRD UP, the worst deck in Magic the Gathering
Goblin gang. The bird stays.
11:40 that is genius GOOD WORK
I think the worst part about this card is that the floor is so much more powerful and annoyingly consistent than a lot of other commander's ceilings.
Like, even if you can't go infinite with Nadu, you can still ramp yourself hard in the early game to such a degree that your opponent removing and giving him commander tax does nothing to stop him.
You've already given yourself enough mana by turn 3 to replay him for five mana or even seven mana.
It makes meaningfully interacting with a Nadu player such a nightmare and painfully unfun even without the braindead infinity combo that happens by just breathing on him
If the music wasn't copyright it would be hilarious to play "surfing bird" whenever you take a 30-minute turn with Nadu
it's already on my auto scoop list
We gotta send this bird the way of the dodo
I spent a good chunk of change on a Nadu commander deck, I have gone to 3 commander nights and can fully confidently say he needs a ban/nerf. I don't have any problem winning it is absolutely too damn easy to take the pod by turn 4-5 and I am no where near CEDH.
LegenVDaddy with another brawl video
The Bird Wizards of the Coast strike again
It's absurd the opinions people seem to have about Nadu. The card is clearly broken, yet the forgetful, or obstinate, swear up and down he's not. It's like they forget that EVERY commander that pays for its commander tax in some way is already extremely powerful. They don't seem to realize he's a combo piece in the command zone, or that if they target him to remove him he triggers, and you casting a spell to protect him triggers him again. and that targeting anything on your board for any reason, incidentally triggers them. The card can win the game by turn four, CASUALLY, with almost no real effort in regular commander.
I think another good edit based on your suggestions at the end would be that it only triggers from spells and not abilities. Because i can also see this being a huge problem in formats like commander with access to stuff like lightning greaves.
That Anim Pakal final turn was ridiculous 😵
A bird that's more valuable than most gods.
With how cheap Nadu is relative to how completely cracked it is, I think everyone smells a ban coming.
Wait, that ability can only trigger twice each turn on EACH CREATURE IN PLAY?! I was like "oh, cool ramp and draw engine", then no. Just no. I remember hearing how bad chullain was back in Eldraine, this looks like his little brother or something
didn’t know “onto the next one” could ever sound so sad
This seems so crazy... this with Ivy makes for some stupid fun.
It was an honor taken the L against you! Love the content, keep up the good work LVD!
The amount of wins I see on arena content creators just from scoops is crazy from the perspective of a paper only commander player. I joined mtg too late and mainly play paper commander casually at home.
"This is Nad ukay" killed me hahahahaha
Never rooted so hard for a deck to brick 😂😂
Some Hasbro Executive's kid must really like playing Simic
Want the guy to be even more busted? Slap some Risen Reef and Vesuvan Duplimancy, the value would be INSANE
Sickening. Well exhibited
So does Arena completely lack any UI for tracking how many times it's triggered for each creature?
It shows on the card if you hover over it, if they triggered twice the ability is greyed out. Still good to keep track mentally to speed things up a bit.
I feel that Ivy, Gleeful Spell thieve would be a great addition to this deck, duplicating the value
The Jhoira vs Nadu match was the perfect example of what Brawl should NOT be
You know that Jhoira player was a moment away from slamming paradox engine and going off even harder
@@vumasster Yeah, I'm saying both commanders are absolutely degenerate
Ps, would it be nerfed if it said NONtoken creatures?
Yea this gonna lead to forcing the format to revolve around him, pretty crazy that he was really printed. Thank you legend for showcasing why something needs to be done always solid content from you
with the sheer quantity of equipments in this deck, would a plate armor be bad ?
Maybe too slow to get going ?
Plate armor is white so you can't have it in this deck in brawl or commander unfortunately
My bad, I haven't used the card in a while, and I was convinced it was colorless
Flying 3/4 for 3 mana is op enough. Not sure what they were thinking printing that card.
Bonny Paul seems really good in this deck lol
Hashbro forgot to put the closed quotation mark after "hand"
This bird has been a topic of discussion in the duel commander community here in our area. Nadu is busted af
You can do 19 damage on turn 3 in Standard with mono red. The opponent plays two tapped lands. GG.
Here let me fix the card as Wizards should have printed it:
1. Nadu should not trigger himself.
2. Nadu should not have 4 toughness, 3 or less.
3. The ability should not trigger twice per creature, only once.
4. The lands should enter tapped.
5. If the card on top is not a land, you do not draw the card, instead you can choose to leave it or put into graveyard.
Even with these changes, Nadu would still be an obnoxious commander.
Not bad i would make it so his effect can trigger twice but only twice a turn and lands enter tapped. Honestly aside from the busted design this card is just boring as its the basic simic bs in the end.
10:20 ....annnnnnnnd thats ridiculous already lol
It was totally necessary to give every other creature the same ability but at least the ability "only triggers twice per turn". Why not just make it a 0 cost commander with flash?
