  • here is how to change your drive shaft on a Land Rover LR3, LR4, Discovery 3, Discovery 4.
    its a DIY, and you will have to set some time aside for this project. The part is bought at amazon, and fits perfectly well.
    Symptoms on the car was, clicking sound when driving hard left, and some times also right, however significantly more in the left turn. The cv joint was changed a year ago but apparently not quick enough to save the bearing inside the cv joint.
    here is how to change the complete driveshaft on the front left side of a Land Rover LR3.
    Leave a comment and I will try to answer as soon as I can.
    drive safely best regards
    Rene

    Yes, Did almost everything on the front of my '06 LR3 SE 4.4L a couple of months ago. Uppers and lowers, bearing hubs, tie rods, CV axles, brakes and rotors. It was dirty but it was worth the peace of mind before getting new tires and alignment. On the rear only needed sway bar links and redid the brakes before flushing all the lines with fresh brake fluid. If you haven't done so, I'd check that rear main drive shaft, or prop shaft as they call it. The center bearing is a known weak point and mine was toast and was putting strain on the front CV and rear U joint because they were making noise and the front was spraying grease up on the underside. Originally I ordered just the center bearing hub, but when I realized all 3 bearings were compromised, I ordered an entire shaft assembly.from a CA co that specializes in driveshafts. And makes them to order in their factory in US. (DuraShaft part # 32561,$391.) delivered...Took 9 days to get it on the east coast, but that was less than half the cost of others I've seen with questionable sources. (China?)
    Thanks again Rene', You are helping many of us out here in Rover land.

      Wow - that’s a big work. Thank for the appreciation, I did have to change my diff and n the rear since I had water intrusion I did not see and when I realized it was too late - so the bearing change you refer to was almost ready for a video:) will make one though. Got a few more tips up the sleeve, especially for those driving in a lot of wetlands.
      I am glad to be able to help you guys out there, I enjoy the work, even at times it gets a lot of sacrifice too.
      Let me hear how you all get along, drive safely, best regards Rene

    Thanks for the video I have a slightly split inner CV boot so have to take mine off again and this reminded me how, I did wonder how you were going to get it out without taking off the upper ball joint.

      You are more than. welcome :) and thanks for watching. There is another video on how to just change the CV boot, while the driveshaft is still installed.

    I’ve heard cheap aftermarket axles and cvs are a huge gamble. How is this holding up? Quiet at high speeds? What brand exactly did you buy? Thanks! This makes my axle job seem less complicated

      Thank you for watching and commenting. Yes the car runs and drive smoothly and silent - also at high speeds. It been doing quite well with no issues. However the it’s the rubber cv boot that’s the weak point on all of these axels. I drive a lot of off road in water and when I rupture a boot, the deterioration goes quickly and the bearings inside basically destroys themselves as the grease disappears. This axle has been doing the job since I replaced it and is still driving strong, do not know if it is a coincidence, however it does. I bought it on Amazon and will include the link for you here :
      Bodeman - Front Left/Driver Side... www.amazon.com/dp/B07VJ9L38V?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
      It says it is currently unavailable, but there is so many other ones on Amazon. This was 72$.
      When you remove the axle from the differential it will need a firm quick pull in order to release itself, other than that it’s a straight forward operation that only requires some elbow grease.
      Hope that helps - have fun and drive safely.
      Best regards Rene.

    what is the indication that front shaft axle needs to be replaced?

    • @techtips101
      @techtips101  4 месяца назад

      Actually a very good question, there could be numerous reasons, however the most common issues are : when you turn sharp right or left at slow speed you will hear a grinding or clunky noise from the front, this will disappear when you go straight. It’s the ball bearing inside the CV boot which is faulty. Typically happens when the cv boot has been defect and/or the grease inside has left the boot and do not cover and lubricate anymore. Corrosion and debris will over time deteriorate the bearing and will need replacement. If the defective CV boot is discovered in time, you can probably save the cv joint and bearing.
      The link in the CVjoint can be worn as well creating same sound. Hope that helps a little.
      I have a video on how to change the CV boot as well, it’s cheaper, however changing the shaft is easier and less dirty.
      Here is the cv boot change

    Hey, have you ever had the transmission fault show up?

    • @techtips101
      @techtips101  Год назад

      Thank you for watching and commenting, yes I have. Rear tail lights and stop light can cause this as well as you brake pedal switch. I have to videos on the subject and matter and it might solve your problem. The TCM (transmission control module) located right side in engine compartment behind the battery is a common problem as well- it is mainly due to water intrusion from bad rubber seal’s below the windows. I have made a video on all three.
      Will post the links below

    tip: leave the opening on the locking ring pointing upwards so that you don't get sharp edges when you press the axle in.
