Tennessee Titans DRAFT GRADES: Latham gets High Marks, Sweat Pick is Risky & Good Day 3

- The Tennessee Titans have completed their 2024 NFL Draft class and it comes with mixed reviews. JC Latham looks to be a great addition to start, but the pick of T'Vondre Sweat is certainly risky. Latham receives a high grade, but the boom-or-bust nature of the pick makes Sweat get a low grade. On Day 3, the Titans did a good job of matching value with need and adding players like Cedric Gray who can provide value to the team immediately, but with those picks coming so late, the talent isn't a sure thing.

I cant agree with a “D” for sweat until he shows me something i wont do that to him just yet i wanna believe that he and simmons r gonna b a serious duo on the DLine. #TitanUp 💪🏽
Too high out of stance is easily fixable for Sweat. He is so horrible he had the highest grade for a DT per PFF. The schematics of having a real good DT/NT next to Simmons, a guy who isn't just a big NT, is important. I have to agree with the DC and GM on this one as a great fit on the defense. At worst he is a real good run stopping DT. That means teams will not be running for 5 yards a carry and having short 3rd downs. It also frees Simmons some to wreak havoc.
Sweats gonna take the “D”and use it to “D”isrupt the run 🎉👍🏼
Speaking as a former police officer who has responded to some nasty DUI accidents, I am pissed that we drafted Sweat, there HAD to be other draft prospects that were comparable in skill and size, Henry Ruggs is eligible for parole in 2026, a DUI should be an instant crash and burn offense for draft stock, the risk of drafting the next Henry Ruggs should have encouraged Tennessee to have more sense, I give Sweat an F grade
@@jacksonhill7552The DWI was barley above the legal limit and it was someone that ran into the back of him and flipped his vehicle. It wasn't him going out and getting hammered all night then deciding to get behind the wheel and crashing into someone or something. It wasn't him swerving or driving out of control that got him pulled over. Someone struck his vehicle while he was driving under control and he barely blew over the legal limit. Not saying that's a good thing, but there are far worse DWI cases than that. I don't see this as wreckless behavior or off the field character issues seeing as it is the only documented incident he's had. If you've ever had a few drinks, decided you felt fine and drove home as normal as any other time. You probably still were driving while being just above or around the legal limit. This isn't Henry Ruggs we're talking about.
@@jacksonhill7552being an ex-cop you probably pride yourself on being a model citizen so this may or may not mean anything to you but there's a fine line in judgement and self awareness if you're driving damn near 3 times the legal limit speeding at an out of control rate which is the Ruggs incident and then Sweat being slightly above the legal limit while driving under control and being ran into from behind. To me that is a HUGE difference. One thought they were okay to drive and drove under control. The other knew that they weren't okay to drive and decided to joy ride full speed down a Vegas strip. Sweat in no way shape or form looks like he'll be the next Henry Ruggs with as minor of a case he had.
@@bonecold4387 Probably many on this board who have done the exact same thing, being slightly over the limit but under control. An average weight person can have a 0.008 level after just a few drinks or bears. Not an excuse for Sweat at all but yea, he wasn't the one driving out of control.
@@mikegustafson58 Exactly. It'd be different if it was a wreckless or out of control situation but instead it was a simple mistake. One beer too many. One less beer or shot and he's probably under the limit which doesn't take much. I don't see this as a character issue or concerning incident.
I was surprised by the Sweat pick too given all the other options available, but I’m putting faith in Ranahan and hope that it all works out. Titan up!
prove em wrong sweat, i wish the best to all our picks
Feeling better about Sweat. I think the upside for big Jeff will be awesome. What center and guards wants to face those two the whole game. Will help guys on ends also. And the type of tough physical guys they picked on day 3 are exciting. Also D is a bit harsh. He is big and strong and big Jeff will get him going.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Since we weren't able to get the best Edge Rushers get someone that'll demand a double team so the others and eat. I only want us to send 4 every play
Too many people think the draft grade is about the person, but it’s not. It’s about draft value and opportunity cost giving sweat a D doesn’t make him a bad person. It just shows that he may not deserve to be picked at 38. The lack of a third round may have influenced the choice to reach for Sweat. We all love this team but have to stay realistic. We’ll see how it turns out this season.
Very good point
I think not having a 3rd round pick was definitely a factor. At the end of the day, they had to come away from this draft with certain positions/roles filled. Pick value be damned. That was probably their strategy/mindset. They didn't have the luxury of roster strength/depth to dance around and take chances.
It's happened to me in Madden franchise a couple times lol even with cheating by using multiple save files. No takesie's backsie's in real life lol sometimes you gotta get your guy to fill that role that nobody else can.
And those people graded sweat not from his play but things outside of football and his weight.
Hey I normall agree with you but i think with the sweat pick they are looking to collapse the pocket on these mobile qbs and allow simmons to work. With more one on ones. When pressure comes from the middle the plays go off script. While you can get burned on those plays you have to get the likes of mahomes etc off balance and playing off their intended play. Once pressure consistently you are in control of the offense and how they play. Thank you for your content and I will continue to watch, like, and stay subscribed. Would love to hear your thoughts on what my thoughts are.
Oh I get why they did it, I don’t think they were right
sounds like carthan and callahan have a plan and i like that they are going after guys from the big time colege football programs. they are used to playing under the spotlight and lets face it they are a step up in most cased from the guys from the less known programs not knocking those programs just telling it like it is(Cossell) lol. Oh bthe way i have been a fan since the houston oiler days when Blanda played and they won the first 2 AFL champiionships tels u im old lol
They told us they would!
@@LockedOnTitans they told the truth. thanks for getting back to me means a lot to us old guys lol
I 100% think Sweat is gonna show out. Soooo many people down on the guy and hes a monster. Keep that same energy when hes out there making plays for us.

A sometimes you just gotta take chance on somebody you really really like and that’s what Ran did, it’s football, every player that got some real potential got some type of issues because these guys are not robots they are real humans with emotions so Ran know and people in the organizations know that know football that sometimes you can’t judge somebody, you got to give them a chance if they got that potential and I believe Ran stand on character and players loving football but you can’t be bougie on every player you pick just because they got some character issues but with potential and I salute Ran for pulling that trigger on him and see his actual potential because the rest of the draft he drafted players who love football so you can’t hate him for making that choice on one of them players. Real Shit G!
Keep telling it how it is, my guy. All we can do is hope for a great outcome🤞🏼

Are you going to do a video for UDFA's anytime soon? Cuz I'm not seeing any updated information out there apart from just two players being signed.
Thanks Tyler, great video. I think it’s a good draft class and trust what Ran’s doing. I like the Sweat pick because he fills a big need and could have huge upside. Winning the line of scrimmage on both sides seems to be the priority which is a good thing for this team.
At the beginning you forgot to say let's get it
Changed intro
Hi Tyler
Lot of people wanted to trade down in the second round. Looking the trades the Rams and the Eagles did just after the Titans, do you still think the Titans should have traded down regardless of the player they took at 38th? Seems both trades (Rams and Eagles) were not very interesting
I would have.
I would say a b+ good draft if sweat can be good and take up 2 people with Simmons I think it opens up linebacker pressures I think Latham honestly because of power will be better than alt but we will see you never truly know who will put in the work or be a bust late round picks I actually felt good about as well
I think not having a 3rd round pick was definitely a factor in taking Sweat at 38.. At the end of the day, they had to come away from this draft with certain positions/roles filled. All we need now is a starting caliber safety to pair with Hooker and we can field a "complete team" in all of the formations/schemes that DW wants to run on defense.
Hope to God Radunz/NPF/Watson can be our RT and the same can be said for offense.
Pray for a healthy season
I remember in 2019 when the Titans landed Big J Simmons. He had some "red" flags as well coming out of college, and look how that has turned out. I will admit that initially I wasn't enthused about the Sweat pick, but after thinking about it there is a lot of upside to this pick. Who better than Simmons to mentor him and show him the way.
100% agree with your stance on Sweat. Totally.
Just watched this past year's college playoff game betw Washington and Texas. At their 2nd score, TX put Sweat in as a blocker on the right side. He pushed the linebacker 5 yards off the line before the RB crossed the goal line. Once the LB gave up, Sweat pushed him back another 5 yards. So...maybe the Titans have found a blocking TE. Who knows maybe a right tackle???
Titans get A- grade from good ol me
Titans filled they main needs with good players JC Latham and T'Vondre Sweat needed a Offensive Lineman and a Defensive Lineman
People in NFL who dont know what they talking about when it comes to Titans saying it looks like a Mike Vrabel draft
Last i checked every team needs good Offensive Line and Defensive Line has nothing to do with Mike Vrabel 😂
People who dont know football 🏈 thought Titans was just gonna draft Wide Receivers with every pick nope
Titans already shown they entering Bill Callahan style with signed Calvin Ridley and Tony Pollard a running back who can run and catch out back field they dont even have a power back
That shows they not playing Mike Vrabel style ball
Brian Callahan has some finess but also power on team
Bro your user name is different every time you post are you AI?
Main thing they were looking for in slot was someone who could threaten deep and run after the catch. NWI is not a bad slot and can also block real well. So, the dig on him when he has a been a reliable and solid backup is as usual, ridiculous. We needed a slot guy who could play more like Raymond and you always have that threat deep.
T'Vondre Sweat reminds me of Albert Haynesworth
If I could give a hundred likes I would hopefully we get the Washington ut version
@@graphxzdawg181he will 40 lbs lighter
Let’s hope not…
Very apt comparison.
Haynesworth was fine under Fisher and the line coach Washburn who both were no nonsense guy. Provide the same environment around Sweat and I think the pick will turn out ok.
Thank you for all the hard you for us I'm proud to have you as Titan Big Brother 👍👍👍
Idk why but James Williams just gives me the FIZZ… my favorite pick besides Jc Latham
Yes
Sweat was easily one of the worst picks of the entire draft. With the vast amount of talent still up for grabs it's inexcusable to pick a guy who's chronically overweight, poorly conditioned, just had a DUI, etc.
What talent? That can have the impact Sweat can have.... the only player I wouldn't have minded having is adonia mirchell
@@carpediem1015cooper dejean for sure was a better pick at 38 and also koolaid. Sweat was a reach and or panic pick. I don’t hate the pick I hate where they too him.
I don’t hate the player but I do hate the spot we drafted him in. It was a reach point blank. Idk if they had a few picks go b4 that surprised them but it seems like a panic pick imo but at minimum it is a reach for sure.
Keep being you Tyler. If they ain’t hating then you’re not doing something right. TITAN TF UP
Titan Up!!!
I don't think we were really in a tough spot in the 2nd w/ how the WR board shook out. I think we were in a great position to trade back & pick up a guy like Mitchell, Franklin or Baker. I didn't expect Mitchell to fall that far, but you get my point. This is 1 of the things that makes the Sweat pick so bad imo.
We really needed a pass coverage LB who can play all three downs. Sweat helps both ILBs and allows us to simplify Murray's role since he is athletic but lacks instincts. Brownlee is a huge need because all our backup CBs right now are not very physical. He gives us a nice dime CB and if one of the outside guys get dinged we can move McCreary outside and move Brownlee to NB.
I think Ran will learn from this experience that there was some missed opportunities to trade down early and I think we could have got Latham and Sweat regardless later in the 1st or 2nd round. It was his 1st time really at the head of the operation vs last year and getting a lot of input from scouts, coaches and coordinators, different from the JRob and Vrabel era...
I really don't give a bleep about a player being a party animal as long as he shows up in practice and game on time. Same rules as the corporate world...as long as you don't embarrass your employer in public. If there were reports of him in college missing those assignments, that's a whole other set of issues
Overall, I like the picks addressing the needs and all and giving us a clearer picture of the remaining signings to come, most likely Safety, DE and OT and we can see next year what will remain to address.
Overall grade: B
I approve this message
Latham would not have made it past the Jets. We werent the only team high on him.
@@jaredgibson7462 it’s very possible but 50/50 imo. In the end I don’t think they were as high on the other OL (Fashanu, fuaga)
Sweat gonna sweat some of that weight off hopefully. Thing I worry bout is for someone who likes to party nashville isn't a great place to be bcuz it's an up and coming city. All we can do is give him a chance if we can get him to stuff ppl in the middle on 3rd down and at the goal line. Sending them straight to Simmons and landry
Yep my concern
I think we all need to slow down on the sweat pick…we can’t judge it till we’ve seen him play, we have a alpha in that defensive line room(big Jeff) that can bring him along just like bill callahan is going to bring JC Latham along…
Funny how when I say good things about a pick no one says this lol
Before you've even seen him play I think he's going to be just what the Titans need
I have watched his tape numerous times. These guys aren’t unknowns entirely.
@@LockedOnTitans Exactly. If we can't give an honest negative opinion on a draft pick off the bat, then we might as well just not even discuss it at all. So we can give a positive take off the bat before he ever plays a snap & say that we think he's gonna be just what we need, but we can't give an honest negative take? Makes no sense.
@@floydclark6710 you get it man lol
Nut Ridin🤡😁😁
Im no football or film guru but the feeling i got watching Sweat is he understands the game and his role in it.
I dont remember which game but there was a play where he beat his guy instantly and got into the backfield but had the awareness to recognize that he needed to pause and stay in his lane while waiting on the handoff to see which direction to pursue.
Someone who is more aggressive than they are calculated could have easily got juked out of their cleats but because he stayed patient he was able to make the play.
Basic 101 shit but ive seen NFL players make some boneheaded ass plays. Jayon Brown on the goaline comes to mind. Last season or the one before, against jags maybe.. idk. Jayon was on the line of scrimmage creeping up towards the RT. Ball snapped and he blitzed into the backfield. RB just ran right around him into the lane that Jayon gave up and scored. It was obvious to me what was about to happen when he started creeping down the line.
The DWI was barley above the legal limit and it was someone that ran into the back of him and flipped his vehicle. It wasn't him going out and getting hammered all night then deciding to get behind the wheel and crashing into someone or something. This isn't Henry Ruggs we're talking about. Kenny Britt also had a DUI (worse case than Sweat) and a couple off the field incidents. Never stopped his production or fans from liking him.
Tyler I believe your assessment of Sweat is fair. At least you gave your reasons and I respect that. I believe the Titans provide the best chance for Sweat to succeed. With the type of coaches, Simmons, and Coburn here, he has it best here than anywhere else. If he fails here, then it’s all on him.
Wish we drafted guys who didn’t need babysitters
Big Jeff gonna Titan Up Sweat

I totally agree with you on the Sweat pick. I honestly think it was such a horrible pick that I think you're actually being very generous w/ your overall draft class grade of a B. I'd give the whole class a C+. If we had even traded back & grabbed Sweat (or another NT, LB Etc) later, while also picking up an additional pick to maybe grab a guy like Franklin, Baker or really any other high upside prospect like that... Then I'd give it a solid B+ or maybe better. I think that the Sweat pick was just such a wasted opportunity. I hope Sweat proves me wrong though. Either way, it just really seems like we could have at least got him later.
110% AGREE with you on the Sweat pick. Anyone who doesn’t is foolish. Have a nice day.
Latham will be awesome!
I personally would not have picked Sweat, but he is a freakishly huge guy. He could end up being the perfect nose tackle. His size alone, makes him a fun draft pick. If Jeffrey Simmons likes him so much, why wouldn't I give him a chance? Ray Lewis had supposed character concerns, and he was one of the best leaders of all time.
Tyler do you have any logic on why the Titans took Sweat, and who would you have rather us taken at 38?
AD Mitchell, KoolAid McKinstry, Chris Braswell. I explained the logic of why they did it in the video!
@@LockedOnTitans I guess I'm stuck on why we would take a 2-down NT at 38... I get what you're saying as far as his role and value. Idk maybe they do envision him as a 3-down guy in odd Nickel fronts

I didnt liek the Sweat pick because he was always mocked lower. I get it though. The DWI wasn't as egregious as they typically are.
Players like Sweat tend to anchor elite defenses especially next to players like Simmons.
Albert Haynesworth had the same concerns coming out of UT. (untappedpotential) Most say he was a pariah within the Titans, but coaches got the most out of him
Naw Tyler Sweat gone surprise you... But question u keep saying his arms are short but his arms are longer than Aaron Donald so I don't really know what short arms gotta do with anything

@@LockedOnTitans thanks for the clarification
The North Carolina kid and David long literally play or sound like they play the same way and it took him a year to be a really good player you know and he had the same difficulties
Sweat had the highest PFF rating of all D Lineman in the nation, winning the award for best interior D Lineman in the nation. Had a good pass rush rating and good pass rush win rate. He has very good quickness and long arms with a mean swim move that will remond you of Autry. Can collapse the pocket with power and also has the technique to swim past you or run stunts and gains creating space for others. He's a very nast D Lineman on the field you can see that he takes his craft serious or he would just be out there pushing people and not understanding how to win at the point of attack. There's no way you don't actually like the on the field product. But because he likes to be a comedian, enjoy college while he was in college, and get into one of the most minor DWI incidents you will hear about. He's a horrible pick? The weight issues I understand but he did drop 15 pounds last year and says he's determined to drop 10-15 more. As long as he diets and takes his body serious I'm not worried about anything else. He looks like he'll be a problem for offensive lineman for a long time to me.
What gets me is that these guys have a huge payday waiting and they cant even keep it together until the contract is signed. The choice to drive hammered really speaks to a lack of judgement.
NWI ... Grt Hands + Blocks Gd.

The guy was a very young kid of only 17 when he went to Austin. Of course he's gonna enjoy Austin. Remember all the Hall of Fame players that were passed on because of mistakes or immaturity. Lastly I believe people like big Jeff and his college big brother will help keep him focus. I trust Ran being able to see through the bulls.-- if it is any.
I wish they drafted guys that didn’t need others to make them focus
Tyler I want Luther Burden next year
With the way the draft went, who would have been your ideal pick at 38 for the Titans with the players still on the board?
AD Mitchell, Chris Braswell.
Not gonna lie, was a little surprised we didn’t hear Mitchell’s named called. Sweat will be boom or bust.
Thanks for replying, love your podcast.
I think Harrell makes the practice squad until he puts it all together. Lowkey tho you gave him a C because he went to Michigan 😂
Watch the senior bowl tape. Highest graded DL by PFF last season in college. Your evaluation is incorrect. Sweat is going to be a monster.
Hopefully Sweat realizes the opportunity in front and doesn't end up like Isaiah Wilson but turns out to be like Jurrell Casey.
I give this draft a C grade obviously because Sweat but also because of the Jackson pick. I mean what happened to all that big slot, Tyler Boyd sized WR talk before the draft.
I would've preferred Rome at 7 and a trade down from 38 to early 50s snd drafted Patrick Paul but easier to say in hindsight
What happened to the “let’s get it “in the intro
I dont think Sweat has to ruin our offseason. He's one of us ...we all have family members we don't like, but we love them anyway and hope for the best. Maybe one of our solid picks blossoms into a great pick and evens things out.... there's no exact science to this thing 🤷🏾♂️
No one said he ruined the off-season
I agree with the grades for the most part... But if Gray was as good of a pick as you could have imagined in the 4th, then wouldn't the pick be an A? Are we grading the pick or the player?
No because he’s not as much of a sure thing as a better prospect would be imo.
@@LockedOnTitans Fair enough. I suppose we just have a different idea on how picks should be graded. Thanks for the content, Tyler. I appreciate you, my guy.
How do we Look when we Step off the Bus.... Looking Good Titans 2024

He isn't Pac Man
I can agree with the criticism but I’ve seen far to many fire carthon comments already and basically saying he’s a horrible gm it’s like some are completely forgetting the whole offseason before pick 38
Honestly I'm not a fan of rhe Jha'quan Jackson pick over Brenden Rice and Malik Washington left on the board. It seemed like a predetermined draft choice due to his affiliation with Spears and he's only going to be used as a returner role? That don't seem right when Malik Washington to me is a better receiver and he was just starting to be used a returner in his 2023 campaign in college. Nothing you can't already teach, but to justify the Jha'quan Jackson pick just because he's fast and has more experience returning? I would've took the more versatile and polished choice at his natural position. Personally just me.
Love the show been with you for a long time i love the show good bad and the ugly about the titans

People gotta realize the D grade isn’t even necessarily for the player it’s for the pick. We could’ve traded back like twice and still probably got Sweat.
No one gonna be mad if he’s good, we’re talking draft picks and trying to consider all the factors that increase/decrease the possibility of him being a 2nd round pick worthy player.

Thing is with Sweat DUI. 2016 TE Tyler Higbee was the same type of guy even went out and got charged with second-degree assault, alcohol intoxication in a public place and evading police. There is a lot of upside with the pick if he fixes some of the off the field issues and his weight.

So I can understand somewhat of a concern on Sweat but guy, he was in college with a ton of money NIL. Like he didn't get a DUI it was a DWI cause someone hit him... He isn't out there doing 200mph killing ppl or crashing on the interstate and running from cops..You don't think Delaney Walker wasn't a clown? If I'm in college and you're throwing 100 of thousands at me with NIL. Um yeah.. I'd be doing the same thing..... This isnt Wilson from Georgia.. I know you gotta have a talking point.. an again your gonna find out who Cody Schrader is, we could have got him on a steal an yet SF gott'em
Grade A to me filling all needs with depth Titanup
If sweat puts in work. I’d like the pick if he ends up like Ndamukong Suh.
You giving a D grade to the Defensive player of the year outland trophy award winner to the best defensive interior lineman , and you have so many negative things to say that you see on tape how does he still win the best defensive interior lineman in college football?
Nah sorry …. U can’t give out second hand information and not give the source about sweat…
When it comes to sweat, you know what they say, money makes you more of what you already are! When you have no discipline and you couple that with millions, it is a mixture for disaster!
Exactly
Sweat was a huge reach. Very skeptical of this pick.
Theville tx right up the street from me, prove em right sweat the ones who believed in you
Latham: B+
Sweat:C+
Gray:B-
Brownlee:B
Jackson:D+
Williams:C+
Harrell: B-
Overall I would say, since we picked for our needs and the players we picked could start or contribute I'm the following 2 years. I give it a B+
I think Big Jeff will stay on his ass and make him work. Time will tell
Can't play football if your in the polky. Gotta learn how to be a professional and know your home life will effect your job. I'm about these UDFA though. Could be some potential depth guys.
Sweat could dominate like Chris Jones . Time will tell . Jones went at 37 Sweat at 38. Both huge. But he will most likely be a bust. If he or Latham do bust Carthon will be shown the door. Crazy that Carthon pinned his career on this guy.
Their games are nothing alike. But I agree crazy risk by Ran.
I hope you're wrong about Sweat!
T,vondre moves like jeff Simmons only bigger
People do not appreciate how great Simmons is if they think this
"I've had so many people around the league" you mean media people? Who cares. They're not football people. You keep bringing up guys like Daniel Jeremiah and others who you call scouts. These guys haven't been scouts for an actual team in years. They aren't real football people anymore. They're media members just like you. I understand they still have connections in the league but I think I'll trust the actual football people in this case. No offense to you or anyone else in the media. I love that you guys create content for us to consume. Keep up the awesome work of making content. Just in this case I'll choose to have a different opinion.
Who cares that he lied to the coaches?
@@LockedOnTitans please highlight the area where I said anything about lying to coaches... I'm strictly talking about the opinions of "people around the league." Do you have any details on the DWI? Someone said he wasn't drinking but was smoking weed. That change some things about this if that's the case. Not much. I'm not condoning his behavior. I'm just more interested in what he brings as a player than how he conducts himself off the field so long as he doesn't do anything detrimental to the team.
@@anthonymalgiero4215 well that person lied to you. His BAC was over .10. He was drunk.
Tyler: I love you for having the BALLS to have an opinion and share that opinion honestly! 👍
Always will
Damn😂 "2 whyte dudes " why you do them like that???
There is a reason the league is only 30% white lol I’m not a fool
