Tennessee Titans JC Latham is OT1 on DAY ONE, Sweat's Immediate Impact & Day 3 Depth Roles

  • The Tennessee Titans took JC Latham with their first pick and he should be able to come in right away and be the top offensive tackle on the roster and a starter. Next, T'Vondre Sweat may only have a rotational role to start, but can provide immediate help to the rest of the defense with his block-eating. Finally, the Day 3 guys can have varied roles to start, but all should be able to provide valuable depth from the start.

💯 and Daley before him. I will always believe that a large part of what got Robinson and Vrabel fired, was allowing the OL to get so bad. It cost the Titans and the fans dearly. Two seasons of the worst LT play in the league, helped get them both up out of here.

Let's not forget about Elijah Molden in sub package defenses. I think the depth of this team is greatly improved when looking at nickel corners and dime defenders. I see the team adding a veteran safety to start alongside Hooker and the team having several options for sub packages just because of the increased depth at linebacker and DB.

IF, IF, IF...the Titans can motivate Sweat to drop much of the bad weight before the season starts (Coach Callahan said in the press conference about the pick, that they would fine him for showing up overweight), and be a professional, then he will be well worth the 2nd Rd pick. He has the potential to be a Pro Bowl NT and will eat a lot of double teams, so Jeffrey Simmons can get 1-on-1 match-ups...which is huge. I think the main reason the Titans reached on him was because he and Big Jeff can routinely collapse the pocket up the middle.

@@LockedOnTitans ...Coach Callahan said he told Sweat (during their visit to his home) that it would get VERY EXPENSIVE for him to continue having a problem with his weight. I am sure they have hooked him up with a Trainer & Nutritionist to keep him on a dedicated plan to drop a lot of the bad weight before the season starts. I also have the feeling that Carthon probably pulled him aside, privately, and told him that he is sticking his neck out for the kid, and to not let him down. Plus, he will have Big Jeff on his tail if he screws this up. We will see.

I've seen draft reactions for over 20 yrs (since the Oilers era) so I don't get too low or too high about reactions. Gms and or media experts have looked foolish many times over so called ""sure value picks'', even with all the tools available to us. Social media can amplify some takes out of nothing really.
For me, if they can find 2 to 3 solid starters out of this group (getting a contract after their rookie deal) , it's a major win. Anything above it like all pro or pro bowl recognition is just gravy on top. I would have preferred a trade down for an extra pick but I'm not losing sleep over it. Hopefully this new approach with this current coach regime can bring sustained success.
Latham and Gray staying a good 10 yrs easy...Sweat is the wild card. The rest, if they make it past the rookie contract is a major win

I think if JC plays at 340-330 he will be as great as a pass protector as he can be as a road grader.
T’Vondre, between 360-350 will help his mobility as a pass rusher and his wear and tear on his body.
Gray is exciting and I was surprised he fell to us.
Brownlee sounds solid right off rip. I will be glad to have CBs aggressively playing press as part of the overall defense.
Jha’Quan might be a bigger addition than I thought. It would be nice to: 1) have real stability in both kick returns and punt return, and 2) have a good slot receiver, who is regularly available.
I really wanted James Williams and I think he could become our TE erasing, Swiss-Army Knife-type player. Eventually he might make a starting-caliber ILB.

Latham will work out just fine as the LT. I mean, he would not be a 5* recruit in HS, AS A LEFT TACKLE if he didn't know what he was doing and wasn't comfortable there. These 5* recruits are rated that high not just because they have exceptional talent, but because they play their position at an elite level. If Latham had a lot of talent, but struggled at his position, he would be rated a 2 or 3*, instead. Plus, even if he somehow is moved over to RT, the Titans CAN move Skoronski to LT and he would play well...that is why they drafted him at #11...because he is that versatile. If they did that, then Dillon Radunz could hold down the LG spot.
