  • Jocko Willink faced intense challenges as a U.S. Navy SEAL serving in one of the most highly decorated special operations units of the Iraq war. In an interview with CNBC Make It, Willink shares two key ways he learned to manage stress.
    » Subscribe to CNBC Make It.: cnb.cx/2kxl2rf
    Used correctly, these tips can even turn your worry into fun, says Willink, co-author of the book “The Dichotomy of Leadership ” and the founder of management consulting firm Echelon Front.
    1. Let go of what you can’t control
    When confronting your stress, Willink recommends asking yourself, “Am I stressed about something that I can control or is it something that I cannot control at all?”
    The key to moving forward, Willink tells CNBC Make It, is acceptance of what you can’t change and moving forward with what you can.
    “Every moment that you spend worrying about something that you have no control over is taking away the energy that you could put into the things that you actually can control,” he says.
    2. Attack your weaknesses
    If you do have control over a situation, and are knowingly entering a stressful environment like a big meeting or presentation, then take an “offensive mindset,” he says.
    The best thing you can do in these situations is to “attack your weaknesses.” Consider what’s worrying you and what you think will go wrong. Then prepare and train accordingly.
    “Think to yourself: OK. I’m going to attack this meeting. I’m going to do a great job,” says Willink. “It goes back to preparation.”
    It takes discipline to evaluate and strengthen your weakest areas. But ultimately, this process will give you confidence and control, eliminating stress.
    “Wake up early. Know your material. Train hard. Study hard,” says Willink. “Be prepared for the situation that you’re going into and then there’s no stress. There’s just, quite honestly, fun.”

    Like most everything stress, anxiety, fear are not bad things, they serve to alert you, warn you. Stress,fear, anxiety out of control can be trouble though. Balance 🙏🏼

      @@runninrebel1520that sounds like something else on your life is causing you a lot of anxiety. You probably just need to be honest with yourself that you are not confronting it. I used to do it alot and would have anxiety over ‘silly’ things.

    This is sound advice, however, it is very hard to apply if you're bad at dealing with stress and anxiety. What you need to do is exactly this (and maybe some therapeutic interventions if you're mentally ill), but the reason you're struggling is exactly because you struggle with the steps.
    Don't worry about things you can't control? Easier said then done. Attack what you can control? Would be awesome _if only I could get myself to do that_ .
    However, just because something is difficult, it doesn't mean that you master it. The cool thing is that this is very simple advice. It's very clear what you need to practice every time you get stressed:
    1. Decide wether you can control something that stresses you.
    2. If no, tell your self that you can't and accept it.
    3. If yes, go into attack mode. Do every thing you can to dominate it and also approach it that way.
    Also he's absolutely right that you should be nervous if you didn't prepare enough. However, that won't help with the situation you're underprepared for. So, go back to the steps above.

    this advice sounds like a really good way to manage stress for 1 year to a couple decades and then crash and literally be no longer able to deal with it at all. basically stoicism with more agression. I did everything right and then my brain predictably just broke and now I am experiencing mental illness. Down time, self care. Proper rest and avoidance of taking on too much is the answer. sorry some can do this for a while but your genes and your body WILL catch up with you and cause you disease.

    • @hdjfjd8
      @hdjfjd8 Год назад +2

      I guess in reality the solution is to have a mix of both and see what works best for you individually

    • @bh24x
      @bh24x Год назад +6

      @@hdjfjd8 you are exactly right. Every individual is different and that is why self help and therapy advice fails such a huge margin of the population.

      Truth is most of us dont have the nervous systems of navy seal soldiers. Even by looking at Jocko body you can see he is filled with testosterone. His jaw and neck structure alone suggests that. Therefore it is simply survival bias. Most people need rest and recharge and GRADUAL progression. Yes, you can train stress resistance but you have to do it with your own realistic abilities in mind.

    • @bh24x
      @bh24x 2 месяца назад

      @@IsraelCountryCube I'm sorry but our society doesn't need several thousand years outdated religion as it will not meet the needs of our population. If you had studied religions outside of your own, you would realize that each civilization needs a religion tailored to their own specific needs.
      Christianity thought it could just steamroll the rest of the known world and destroy any other option and all that has brought us is this unstable and collapsing society ran by the over opposing dissidents of the religion struggling because they have been so long removed from the tools to build a new viewpoint of what is probably the same spiritual world to meet their own needs and alleviate physical suffering.

    The way you approach stress is conditionning the impact stress has on you, if you see it as a tool to defend or chase what you care about stress is positive and you’ll surf on it. On the other hand if you think it’s going to make you less, to debilitate you, it will. Alicia Crum a doctor from standford did a pretty good job researching this subject it’s called the stress mindset. I’m french if there is any grammatical mistakes sorry.

    So if our minds close up under pressure and we can't think!!!! it's because we're unprepared. Right??
    So as a man and as a husband I always have to be prepared and the better I am prepared in all situations then the better I will be.😊 And if we didn't have a father that showed us how to do that then we have to at some point teach ourselves how to get prepared for anything.

    i have a court case today against me with some bogus charges of aggravated assault
    the prosecution tried to hide the security camera footage for over a year from the date of the incident
    i finally got it and i was able to find several points in those videos where it shows i am telling the truth about what happened
    i believe i did the work , everyone i tell what happened to seems to believe me (i am telling the truth but they dont know just like the jury wont know if its really the truth or not) so looking at that i can use that as a baseline as to if the jury is going to believe me as well ..
    i am pretty sure that with the evidence i have and the truth of what happened in my version of events that will show the jury that i am telling the truth
    i am still nervous and anxious over it
    i will do my best ...
    Never give up
    NEVER SURRENDER !
