Or the ability to force a party to abide by their promises like forcing a politician to make an unbreakable vow to uphold law in order to be sworn in to office...

My top 3 powers would be legilimency, occlumency, and the ability to disapparate. The only three powers in my opinion, that you'll ever need to stay ahead of pretty much any threat. The two powers after those 3 powers in my top 5, would have to be transfiguration, and invisibility. Those 5 powers are both a powerful defense, as well as a powerful offense to be used when in danger.

I feel like mind control especially through the Imperius Curse is an extremely powerful ability, and one that should be on the list. To have the power to bend others to your will means you can literally make them do whatever you want. You can force them to be your friend, protector, lover or make them give you their personal information or money and possessions. Not to mention they can also be used as patsies to commit crimes (such as kill someone) on your behalf and suffer the consequences for those actions.

@@witdajuice6763 The point of making that distinction about African wizards is to give them an adecuate adaptation of their real-world-culture. I would also include Reparo. You can use it to repair almost anything, no matter its size, no matter its damage. In FB1, it is even used to rebuild a large part of New York.
Not sure if it can be counted as such, but potion-making ability can be very, very useful. A lot of these powerful abilities can alternatively be replicated by the right potion. Want to read someone's mind? Brew veritaserum. Want to change appearance? Brew polyjuice potion. If you are skilled enough, you could brew a potion with immense destructive potential (a single drop of the potion of the living death can kill tens of people), or one that makes all your hearts desires come true.
For the Horcrux category, I would expand that to include other forms of immortality, like the philosophers stone.

    • @JamesDavy2009

Polyjuice potion lasts for one hour and brewing the stuff takes months and expensive ingredients including boomslang skin, antlions in their imago form and plants that must be picked at the full moon among others. A lot of these powerful potions are no doubt heavily regulated by the Ministry of Magic with Veritaserum stated as such by Snape when he threatened Harry with it.

I would place Obliviate further up this list, though I can't say where. It's not really even specified in the books (and don't get me started on the movie treatment) but to effectively cast that charm in the way you describe would involve a great deal of skill - more than Accio, I think. You would have to be able to quickly sift through the complexity of someone's memories and then delete only those you wished. Otherwise, your risk of causing harm would be very great. I can easily see why it would need to have a specialist squad in the Ministry all to itself.

I have a hp theory that I think fans of this channel would appreciate which is that Dumbledore entrusted the future of the wizarding world to Draco 😳 hear me out, in the half blood prince Dumbledore his own assassination plot Voldemort had ordered Malfoy to kill him. Which we of course know is a job that he appoints to Severus, in order to protect Draco from going down the wrong path and carrying a burden he wasn't built for. When he and Harry return the astronomy tower on the night of his death he becomes aware that something's amiss and knows that he's going to die as he's already committed himself to it. What's odd is the fact that rather than give the elder wand to Harry or snap it in half and destroy it he purposely allowed Draco to disarm him. Now Dumbledore had absolutely no way of knowing that harry would be captured hunting horcruxes and taken to Malfoy manor where he would duel and disarm Draco. That means as far as he was concerned Dumbledore had died making the choice to pass ownership of the elder wand to Draco, who for all he knew could've followed in his father's footsteps. But Dumbledore saw the good in Draco and entrusted him with it, rather give it to Harry in his final moments or just destroy it altogether. If that had been the case Voldemort would never have gotten it in the first place and Snape could've lived especially since Harry just breaks it anyways.

What the list should have been:
1 Fiendfire. (The nuke of the wizarding world. Especially effective when combined with teleportation. A single cast can wipe out entire cities.)
2 Mind Control. (Mr. President, you want to start a nuclear war. Imperius, confundus, magical contracts, etc... So many ways to bewitch their minds and ensnare their senses.)
3 Fidelus Charm. (Just because wizards are too stupid to use the charm effectively, doesn't mean it's not overpowered. Just have two fidelused properties with the resident of the other being the secret keeper, or any other method of safeguarding the secret effectively and use an unbreakable vow to prevent sharing the secret without authorization.)
4 Teleportation. (The end of logistics issues. How would you ever catch a sniper who can apparate? Critical equipment is never more than a few seconds away.)
5 Veritas Serum. (Your enemy can hide nothing. Much more effective than legillemency)
6 Mandrakes. (Just put on some ear muffs and walk into the enemy stronghold.)
7 Basilisk Eyes. (Just one look is all it takes, unfortunately, difficult to weaponize if you aren't born a parselmouth.)
8 Immortality. (Very few enemies cannot be outlived if you are cautious enough. Very few problems are unsolvable with enough time to work on them.)
9 Transfiguration. (Note science and chemistry is necessary to make this truely powerful, like transfiguring air into FOOF or neurotoxins. Or you could just do the wizard thing and make instant distractions and control the battlefield.)
10 Duplication Charms. (Resources are not really limited when you can make more, only ranked so low because you need source material.)

I feel like the sight is both a blessing and a curse. Its a blessing in the sense that you can tell the future (or at least interpret it) for yourself or others, however those fortunes are not straight forward, nor are they predictable or preventable. Someone with the sight could tell somebody's future where something really bad happens to them. You or they will now be living in fear, not knowing when their misfortune will kick off and may attempt to stop it, only to be the ones to cause the misfortune to transpire. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

Prophecy / precognition is only one small facet of divination. Divination is all about magically gathering information, that includes the past and present, as well as the future. Divination includes remote viewing also known as scrying; that is magically seeing far away places and people in the present, psychometry; which is magically learning an objects history, the maurauders map is a fabulous example of divination magic in the form of magical cartography. Divination also includes magical identification, learning the nature of charms, enchantments and curses on objects and places, divination can also find lost or hidden items or people. You might also place legilimens, the number one power on this list, under the divination umbrella, magically extracting information from a persons mind.
The wizarding world of HP pours a lot of scorn on divination, but it's a helluva useful and powerful magical discipline.

I argue that horcruxes should not be on this list as you specifically stated that no other equipment should be required for the ability to work. Accio does not require the object to be present to use it, so it is exempt. But Horcruxes require an object to store the piece of soul. Therefore, they break the rule.

Doesn't even include some of the best spells I'd want to learn. Then again, as an American Redneck, I'd consider these to be tops.
    1. Undectable Extension Charm - Personally, knowing what I know now about the wizarding world, this one ranks tops on my list because it can turn even a suitcase into a mansion. All you'd need do is build some small house, cast this charm, and you have a mansion unto yourself. Granted it doesn't include balcony overlooks as stepping outside would bring you back fullsize, but if I were made into Harry, with what I know, I'd buy a trunk with this cast on it and live inside it throughout the summer. Hell, if you had one as big as Newt's, Hedwig, or whatever owl you had, could fly and be free instead of cooped up in the cage all the time.
    2. Fidelius Charm - Who hasn't wanted to keep out unsolicited visitors? This charm hides your entire house from everyone, wizard and muggle alike, unless you tell them specifically where you live. Great for rural living and keeping on the DL but I don't know if owls can still find you or not. Might be the one trade off. Along with Cave inimicum, this will defiinitely keep you protected from most harm.
    3. Greenhouse Charm - Allows for the accelerated aging of plants in a confined space. Could be useful for growing your own food in your trunk hideout or inside a small greenhouse on your property with the Extension charm set. Food is necessary to life and the one thing magic can't create. Learn and master the Aqua charm and you are set!
    4. Killing Curse - Man's gotta eat, right? Doesn't mean you have to kill people, can be used to kill anything without damaging the hide and meat. A most useful spell in my opinion.
    5. Blue Bell Flame - Really any of the firemaking spells but Hermione's blue bell flames spell might be better, creating heat but not actually burning anything. Set them inside your old wood-burning stove and voila! Instant cooking apparatus! Set them in your fireplace as well to keep warm and those cold lonely nights are just lonely. Can't have everything in life.

I think any charms or spells or apparating shouldn't be on this list because of the fact a wand needs to channel the witch/wizard's magical ability to cast the spell, so it counts as a tool or "equipment". Unless the wizard/witch can cast wandless magic, which is quite rare.

Wait why is accio on the list? I get it’s very useful and I would use it probably 6 times an hour lmao. However you have to be powerful to cast it? I thought anyone could cast it? Is this video about the most powerful and useful spells? It says powerful so that one confused me lol sorry. 😂
One more question. As far as flying goes. To fly without a broom does it require the use of dark magic? I have always wondered why Albus didn’t fly even with him being as powerful as he is. The only reason I could think of why he wouldn’t fly is he would have to use dark magic to achieve it.
