- The Grandia Remaster finally came out on the PC, so it begs the question:
How does it compare to the Saturn original?
And what is the best choice? Remaster or Saturn?
You can find TrekkiesUnite's patch here (latest version is 0.62.1): segaxtreme.net/threads/transl...

Definitely used the Playstation source code. Theres no shadows being cast from the buildings like the Playstation version.
Nice one, didn't notice that!
But in the PS1 Version the Ground Textures are out of Geometry, this seems like its fixed in the HD Remaster. All the lines at the Bottom in the first Town are strait and parallel like in the Saturn Version.
@@mckane7748 the textures still look all messed up like the PS1 version. House sitting in-between floor textures, etc..
The Sega Saturn original is much better. The shadows on building adds to the immersion. The HD remaster is fully based on the PS1 port. I'm playing thru emulation via retroarch upscalled to 1080p and it's absolutley beautiful.
i think i'll go with the Saturn version, i love that old school look
Playing the fan translated Saturn version and loving it !
I wish there was a Saturn HDMI mod or a Saturn FPGA console.
There's always this: www.thesaturnjunkyard.com/2019/08/the-saturn-hdmi-cable-from-levelhike.html
@@TheSaturnJunkyard stay away from this cable and get a RAD2X. NO added lag and accurate.
@@tyler6644 thanks for the tip!
There's also the upcoming PolyMega console in 1080p hdmi... So you can do what I'm going to do and play the Saturn version in HD
@@The_Badcompany I'm not paying for that overpriced hunk of junk. If I wanted an emulator, I'd use my PC.
Finally some Saturn love
Always!
I wish, they'd used the original pixelated sprites for characters.
The rest seems fine. But the smeared, blurry characters are meh.
on steam its possible to get that look
Much obliged! Short, straightforward and informative.
Played the playstation 1 version, but on halt at the first hour of Disk 2, I just dont remember why because at the time I quite enjoyed it, especially the battle and the mixed of pixelated 2D sprite with 3D environment (I just have much respect on a game of that type back then) ...
Happens to all of us, especially with long games like this. Maybe it's time to start from the beginning again! :)
I'm really excited about what Grandia will look like on the PolyMega especially with comparing between the PS1 and Saturn versions of it in HD
That polymega shit was a scam lol
Both look gorgeous
The English patch translation for Saturn does it have English voice work as well or still the Japanese voice work?
Japanese thank god
@@drunkensailor112 Exactly its so much better with the japenese voicing

link for widescreen hack. not working 🥺
it was easier for them to use playstation code than the saturn. saturn renders 3d like quad poligons with distorted sprites, playstation renders triangular polygons as every today hardware capable of 3d rendering.
I have a repro disc of the Saturn version with the english text from the PS1 version (plus removed censorship in some dialogues) but you can't compete with the practicality of the HD remaster. Better camera controls, less wobling and overall smoothier spritework.
Really wish I liked the look of the remaster. Was a hyped release on Switch for me so I could experience it without throwing tons of money to a Saturn release, so now I guess I'll do that lol. Great video man.
The ugly filter can be removed on the PC Remaster (making it the best looking version), you can see what it looks like here: ruclips.net/video/dKPWe2Ru03I/видео.html
Saturn version is cheap as hell. You can also download it for free
is there a 21:9 widescreen hack too?
Not that I know of, but check the widescreen hacks page over at segaxtreme
A big plus for the PC version is everything loads much faster. Just going into the character menu there is a delay on the PS1 and Saturn versions. Also the Saturn trying to fake transparency effects looks very cheesy and dated. I would call the PC the most playable version and widescreen does help because you see much more all around you.
So you're Portuguese who can speak English? That's awesome. I'm still trying to learn Japanese.
The Sega Saturn version is still the best one. Try it on a big CRT TV connected via Component/RGB cables and see how sharp and colorful it looks.
I'm playing this game on ps1 emulator the backgrounds are amazing but my characters models are very pixelated
I knew there was an HD remaster, but I chose to buy the Saturn version, and play that instead.
What bugs me the most are the mirrored sprites of the hd remaster. They are the same as in the ps1. That is the only reason for me to play on saturn emulator.
a shame they used the ps1 version...
I will gladly play the Saturn version
I only played the Ps1 version on my PS3 back in the day. That’s my best version to me at least, take what I say with a grain of salt.
What looks like a hq4x filter on the HD version that can't be turned off because they hate sprite work for some reason is why I stayed away from the new releases. *hugs Saturn and PS1 copies of games*
I think they actually filtered the sprites individually, so it's not a filter as much as it is filtered assets.
It looks awful, in my opinion, hopefully someone patches in the original assets now that the game is on PC, I'd consider getting it if that was an option.
@@benzo12 It's already possible, I posted a video of it without the filter almost a month ago. I prefer the PC remaster over all other versions at this point, as it has less camera wobble overall (which is a huge issue for me on PS1). You can view it here: ruclips.net/video/dKPWe2Ru03I/видео.html
Saturrn version by far... very-very far.
Def SS version
not the remaster thats for sure
remaster is a mess, only good thing about it is its in english
even the ps1 version is better
For around a second i thought you weren't speaking English haha.
So basically the only real reason to own the Saturn port is for the Water Effects?
Also ground pattern of first city in Saturn version is different.
Also the shadows from the buildings are completely removed, like the PS1 port.
You forgot the Ugly SEAMS that are everywhere ... ugh!
on P.C.'s.
the remaster is a mess.
The switch is just a lazy port of an already lazy port 😭
