I'll say it again: when one is accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression.
Smartest comment on this site!!
Yes. It’s human nature to think something is being taken from you rather than just given to others. That’s why this is such a hard thing to eradicate. Look at the leadership in Congress. They would rather get in bed with white supremacists and maintain their ‘power’ than stand for democracy. That’s how foul racism is.
Therein lies the opportunity to nobly do what you actually do not have to do but choose to out of you own inner greatness.
@@waynewhite2314 the nobility you speak of is the exception not the rule just like this guy. we are creatures of culture and tradition we hold on to them like addicts and their drugs. While Individuals who somehow realize the immorality of their culture or tradition is obviously a good thing ...the effort and sacrifice required for fundamental lasting positive change goes well beyond the mere self realization of a few individuals.
And, accountability feels like persecution to them.
I grew up in north and south carolina in the 50s and 60s and can verify what this man says. I still carry a streak of racism that I will sadly never fully eradicate. I carried more than a streak until I practiced medicine for 30 years and in that experience I learned everyone carries the same needs and hopes and dreams. I watch my children who are fortunate to see no divide. I still learn daily and i am optimistic. I agree with Mr King, together we all thrive, divided we all fail.
Yep...same here. He's so right.
Thank you for your honesty
I admire your honesty but are you sure you're not mistaken your "racism" for biases?
@@eboyd2478 You are welcome. I think all solutions begin with honesty. Hate and all its forms including racism is grounded in fear, usually unfounded. Recovery is the same as recovery from any delusional mental illness.
@@eboyd2478 You are welcome. Please see reply to the reply after you. Fierce honesty takes courage but leads to a certain wholeness.
Disgraceful. This guy wants you to think it's good to cultivate hate towards your fellow man because he's different from you. All he's doing is supporting Critical Race Theory. Disgraceful.
You don't even know what "critical race theory" is. And he's explicitly stated that calling out and changing the system is NOT an attack on white people. Fixing a system so that it is equitable for all people is cultivating hate for your own race? How ridiculous can you be?!
Your experience conflicts with this man's reality. That is fine, however, it doesn't discount what's true in many parts of this country. I'm a combat veteran of 22 Years of service to this nation. A few years back, I ran for office (County Commissioner) in a rural Midwest community. I was told I wouldn't win because I was the wrong color ( I lost). You are very limited in your understanding of other communities.
First Question: What is “Critical Race Theory”
@@wilsons043 Race is the fundamental reality of human existence and people don't want to be ruled by aliens. It's not difficult to understand this, and despite what some paperwork says, 'Americans' are Whites, non-Whites are at best paper-Americans who have no business in positions of authority over Whites.
It's always been true and it will always be, this strange melting pot nonsense and belief that corrupt legal systems transcend racial realities is so deeply contrary to reality that you're going to live long enough to watch it vaporize.
@@robertbadger8640 you already know, stop being obtuse.

It's hard being a minority of any ethnic group anywhere.
@@grahamt5924 agreed. It's difficult to not be self interested. You take that feeling and scale it to the majority group and you set the table for oppressive and or dismissive behavior towards the minority group. This is why it's so important for the people in the majority group to say "whoa this behavior is not cool" which can be hard because 1. It doesn't impact you 2. You are benefiting.

That's REAL! I have different experiences and history but my experiences definitely confirm everything he said. I am white. I have fought racism most of my life and know the truth of everything he said. I remember one old man that worked at the county jail with me saying, "I know it's wrong, but it's the way my daddy raised me and I would be disrespecting him if I changed." I couldn't close my mouth, my jaw just hung there wagging in the breeze. I was dumbfounded by the ridiculousness of the statement. Every arguement I have ever heard to justify racism has been ludicrous, but that one floored me. It is hard to break through to someone who is emotionally attatched to a belief, behavior, culture or way of life. Especially when they already know they are wrong!

Mr Ellis, that was the intelligent, raw gut wrenching truth on racism from a white person I have ever heard. I thank God for your bravery and transformation and pray that this talk reaches everyone in America and around the world.
If I can just ask one question of you…a burning question I have had since I first understood what was racism is this….WHY? You gave great reasons on how to change if I am white in America but not the WHY? What is in for the average white person to give away privilege. Humans are selfish. We only change when it is in our best interest to do so and until that REASON comes to light I sadly don’t see the change that you and I so desperately want to come to fruition.
Nevertheless, please do keep preaching the gospel Brother 👏🏾
Thank you for speaking the truth! I am as Caucasian as can be, and you spoke my truth. God bless people like you, who have no fear advocating for fairness, equality and truth.
I, too, broke the generational stranglehold of racism. I was born in Sand Mountain, Alabama in 1965. Sand Mountain has been called the Hells Kitchen of the South. But fortunately, I started asking questions early. I just couldn't, as a child, understand why anyone would want to judge someone because of their race. And when I had children, I taught them the truth. Racism can be stopped in just one generation if we are willing to teach our children the simple but profound Golden Rule.
What's that rule?
@@Red80008 Treat others as you would be treated.
@@charlessomerset9754 That's a great start! I would then go another step further and say: "treat others as good as possible and so that no one suffers".
If we stayed only with how "we would be treated" we would also only treat others like how WE think they would be treated, not how they actually need/want be treated.
Not as in "they get what they deserve", though, but "give them what they need to be happy if you can and as long as it's not at the cost of somebody else".
In my opinion and experience, the former requires and works only at a common and "good" ethic ground but lacks true compassion/empathy for the other.
He is always on point. Unfortunately the people who NEED to hear this, won’t even try. Or if forced to listen, won’t believe it because they don’t WANT to hear it. I’m just glad slowly but surely SOME are grasping truth and deconstructing their old beliefs and now understand the reality we live in and are willing to fight for ALL people and equal rights and treatment. Maybe we will get it together in the next 300 years? Maybe.
Gotta move past the need to be white
