Back in the mid 90s, i was working here on the 6th storey. There was a food shop at 2nd floor, where there was a delivery boy by the name of Ah Zai. He would do drink and snacks delivery for the shops. When he was seconds before arriving at the shops, he would mimic the doorbell sound “ding dong” and then when he leaves, he would mimic the sound of a sports car vrooming away. He had a tragic story where he has to care for his old mother and an intellectually challenged brother, he himself is not 100% too but he is great at maths, counting money for change. I often thought of him and wonder how he is now. Hope he is doing well Sim lim square is now not what it used to be. Those times was a good memory

There is a tip about the toilets, the building is a square with 4 corners there is 2 toilets at the opposing corners, but 1 of it is for Staff or the Shop owners only.. so sometimes i have to remember which corner is the toilet for public, else you run to 1 corner to go toilet only to find its a staff toilet than you have to run the the other corner. the toilet also is famous for no toilet rolls, they have a Main toilet roll at the entrance, so you need to take what you need before you enter the cubicle.
Sim Lim Tower caters to a different market as most shops there sells electronic and audio parts for repairs, customization, etc, and you are right in the reason they are still thriving is these parts are very hard to buy from online portals and shops.
