OKAY this one had lots of twists and turns... would you have ranked these the same? Also, more importantly, hit me with your best cheese puns please!!!
Even suggesting that those Miyokos sticks are food is a stretch.
vegan cream cheese next please. i bought so Delicious and i want to know if the amazing wise and all knowing Merle agrees with me that So Delicious Cream Cheese ranks F... because truly the Vegans have gone too Far with that monstrosity.
@@karencorey290 vegan Bourson is the only vegan cheese I actually eat. Vegan cheese is mainly a no thanks food for me
@@justthinking526 Vegan Bourson. thank you i'll give that a try. admittedly I'm not vegan but I'm trying to make more sustainable options for meals.
Merle is givin emo from 2007 lol n I’m here for it! But would love to see Mayb ginger/reddish hair 😍
I'd love to see a cream cheese/spreadable cheese ranking! I personally love Boursin dairy free, but I haven't tried many others and I'd like to see what's out there.
Yaaaasss!
Trader Joe's (if you have one nearby) and Violife are my faves. I like that violife seems to have minimal ingredients but it melts weird on a hot bagel. Texture is better cold with some crackers. Tofutti is OG with good texture but not a whole lot of flavor. Usually sprinkle some nooch on it. Lol Haven't tried the Boursin but might have to now.
The DF Boursin is delicious. I also like Treeline varieties.
Tofutti is the best !
Don't try Miyoko's cream cheese. I am bewlidered by why they would try to sell that stuff. It is so incredibly bad! I love Miyoko's cultured vegan butter and their mozzarella though. I like Kite Hill cream cheese. I didn't know Boursin has a vegan cream cheese! I'm definitely going to try it out.
@@mygirldarby DF Boursin isn't really cream cheese. It's a garlic and herb cheese spread more like Treeline's products but sort of has cream cheese vibes.
I think a vegan yogurt ranking is a great option!
I know, I KNOW we don’t want to keep putting 365 up at the top of the rankings. But the cheddar slices DESERVE to be S-tier here. I eat them all the time, both raw and melted, and I’m obsessed. They have fully converted me to vegan cheese. This is the strongest opinion I’ve had going into any of your ranking videos, and I was so glad to see you agreed 🙌🏼
I’m a Violife fan. The mature slices and Colby Jack shreds are my favorites. Thank you for doing these taste tests. It’s a big help. Take care.
I've been using Violife cheddar shreds to make vegan nachos lately. I can just thin it out with some water, veggie broth, or plant milk in the microwave (along with some spices and hot sauce) and it's more or less the same flavor and consistency as nacho cheese. The last time I made a grocery order, they were out and substituted with Daiya and the results could best be described as a crime
Ah haha haha I know what you mean
Ugh I’m so conflicted because I’ve heard daiya got better but it like depends on the person 😭😭 I just want to make a vegan cheddar broccoli soup 😭😭
Daiya is 🤮
@@Janae2000 You should try Vevan...it's delicious
@@Janae2000 Daiya is a no go !
The synthetic part of the shredded cheeses versus the slices is more than likely the anti-caking agents used in order to keep the shreds from clumping together
Question. What do you do with all the leftovers from these rating videos, especially all the foods you give a D-F? I think it would be interesting to see to see you salvage them, and use them in a dish, kind of like a make it "tasty" challenge. And not just for entertainment purposes either. I've purchased my fair share of regrettable vegan products, and after tasting them have found myself wondering, "Well, wtf am I gonna do with this?"
She’s said she gives them away.
I was just about to comment this, I'd also be interested to see you salvage the D and Fs and try and make them S's!
I usually hand them out in the office tbh because I can almost always find a home for them where someone will actually use em. But I do like your idea of trying to salvage a dish out of some of these - though SOME OF THEM i'd rather never eat again lmao
Miyoko’s slices are legit!
I wanted let you know that the reason for the flavor difference in Violife is that your slices are Mature Cheddar as apposed to regular cheddar. They make regular cheddar slices which taste the same as the shreds imo
Miyoko's has two different aged cheddar cheese wheels (one regular and one smoked) that are both exceptional. The same artisanal style as like the mozzarella you love.
Oh really!?? I need to get my hands on those! I've never seen them
@@MerleONeal Vegan Essentials carries a lot of artisanal vegan cheeses, including the Miyoko's ones!
Yes but she’s absolutely correct about their blocks/shredded cheddar. They are awful and honestly happy someone had the stones to call them out on that! I hope they listen
@@roamsy Totally. I believe they are discontinuing them because Miyoko said she couldn't stand by them.
I love Miyokos butter 🧈
When I wasn't vegan I never liked cheese or any dairy products because of the nasty aftertaste I would get so I didn't even bother looking into vegan cheeses when I became vegan. When I eventually did try vegan cheese I was surprised! They are not bad and they don't give me that nasty aftertaste. That being said some are definitely better then others 😅 Violife is my favorite 🤌🏽
I remember when I first cut out dairy (6+ years ago) vegan cheese used to be HORRIBLE. Just disgusting. It has come suuuuuuuch a long way, they’re soo good now for the most part.
I love these ranking videos! Thank you!!
Glad you like em!
I love these videos, they're so helpful. Miyoko's used to sell Cheddar and a Pepper Jack slices, they were really good. They pulled them because they said they needed to reformulate the recipe to make it better. Hoping they release them soon. Interesting that their cheddar sticks taste so bad, I never had them, but don't plan on buying them either. :)
Glad you like the vids! I hope they do re-release because Miyokos is one of my favorite brands, I don't quite know what happened with this one though haha
I bought the Miyoko’s a few months ago despite the bad reviews. And um yeah, just not good. I hope she will reformulate. She’s so incredible with her other products! I Also think the 365 brand is great! It’s so nice to have the amount of choices we have out there.
I truly was shocked by this, bc Miyokos is usually top tier for all of my rankings but alas, maybe this one just needs to go back to the drawing boards haha
I know the Good Planet cheeses haven't really impressed you much and I generally feel the same, but their smoked gouda is so far the only nondairy cheese I've actively chosen to just eat on its own. REALLY good melted on a breakfast sandwich. Also I've got my fingers crossed that we get a vegan deli meats episode- I used to make a mean sandwich before I stopped eating meat, but I've so far failed to find a replacement for turkey or ham.
Have you tried Yves deli slices? They're pretty good if you haven't!
Thank you for this video, always interesting to get brand reviews. One small request: in a future video could you also try grating the blocks yourself and comparing that?
that's an excellent idea!
MERLE! The wavy ponytails are breathtaking on you! (I'm also a big Violife fan too, as well as a Daiya, cheese hater, except for their mac lmfao)
🥹
This was so fun to watch and helpful!
Love these videos!! Not even vegan, but I like knowing what options are out there. Thank you!!
Glad to keep you entertained 😌
You should try the Babybel plant based cheese. It's vegan, and it's delicious!
Miyoko's pepper jack and Follow Your Heart's smoked gouda are my favorites of the "cold eating cheeses."
Love this.
And you make me laugh 😂
Thank you for doing these! Vegan cheese is super expensive where I live in Canada, so trying EVERY kind can get pretty costly. I've just been using the Daiya cheddar block cheese which I don't mind (it also melts really well when you shred it yourself as opposed to the pre shreds) but I'll for sure be checking out the brands you recommend!
Ummm OKAY MEEERRLLLE. Your sultry, mysterious, spooky season look today is giving me LIFE. 😍🔥
GAH thank you 👻
Looking for this comment bc girlfriend is looking good with the hair and makeup!!
Some plant cheese recipes go a little too far with the sourness that’s meant to mimic the sharpness of cheddar. So that barf flavor you’re tasting is prob coming from the abundance of the bacterium that develops; the flavor always reminds me of sour yogurt at best, vinegar at worst
Oh yay our vegan queen is baaack!! Loves to see it!! You are so lucky though... We only have like one maybe two different brands of vegan cheese here in Australia (that I have been able to find so far) and I don't mind them flavour wise, but they are sooo darn expensive 😟💔 I just cannot justify buying and spending that much, it's like $8 for a pack of 10 slices versus $10 for a whole block of non vegan cheese! It's actually insane. It is honestly the only reason why I'm still vegetarian and not vegan! Also I followed you on Instagram, thanks for sharing the link, not sure if you always do and I just missed it but ye, looking forward to more Merle content! 💖💖💖😁
Follow Your Heart was my fave when I first went vegan but then again the only other choice back then was Daiya lol but honestly FYH ain't that bad once its on a pizza or a grilled cheese. Also, not sure if you're willing to venture out to the valley for this but FYH has a cafe and vegan shop with lots of great options from so many brands in Canoga Park that's been around since like the 70's or 80's. Side note: FYH dressings are bomb btw. I love their Cesar and honey mustard.
Violife if my current fave for most things along with Caio. I have gotten my mom hooked on Violife too :D
Merle you have to get a hold of the block of Violife epic mature cheddar! It tastes way better than the slices, even!
I've been looking for their blocks without luck myself.
It’s way the best cheddar. It’s more nutty, like a Swiss, but it tastes great.
Never even heard of it!! I'm going to be searching far and wide
Ugh I could sit there and eat the whole block. It’s dangerously good lol
Yep, it's great! Violife is amazing.
Loveee this series! The best vegan cheese ive tried out of them all is Parmela sharp cheddar slices!!! Made a grilled cheese using the miyokos butter and it was a spaceship right to my childhood.
You haveeee to try the unique cheese flavors!! Like Chao!! Also you should order some Herbivorous Butcher cheese!
It seriously blows my mind that there are so many vegan options for things out there! I live in an island town where we only have 2 grocery stores. We don't have a vegan store, we don't even have a vegan aisle @ the 2 stores, they both just have a vegan section that takes up about 1/8th of an aisle :S it's usually a small array of vegan options but it's usually all one or 2 same brands
I love the violife slices melted on an ozery apple breakfast round thing... it gives me modern Parisian vibes
You know a cheese is really bad when Merle drops and F bomb. Also, living for the Merle pigtails.
hehehe ty- they were a vibe of the day
Oh hey friend. Didn’t expect to see you here. 😂 But, right!?
I *love* the Daiya farmhouse block, the cheddar is good but the Montery Jack and Smoked Gouda are outstanding. It's in my fridge at all times. When they redid the formula a few years ago, it became my favorite. I don''t buy the Daiya shreds, I shred the block. The fact that it's a firm cheese makes it so good for grating.
I used to LOVE the blocks, but I don't like them at all since the most recent reformulation (the new oat/chickpea base). They are always changing everything! Not always for the better, imo.
I think the reason the shreds taste different than slices is that the shreds are designed to melt so they prob use different ratios of the ingredients and like you said they have stuff to prevent caking which is probably an artificial chemical (I’m not sure so don’t quote me lol) and normally you wouldn’t notice is but since you are paying particular attention that’s why lol, I love this video you are so funny and honest. I like that you do genuine reviews and it’s not a bunch of sponsored shit I can trust lol❤
Edit: also your so right about daiya being the OG it was the first one I had when I went vegan like 6-7 years ago and I HATED it as well as their cream cheese, haven’t really had it since so don’t know if they’ve improved but not my fav, I think I used to like chao the best even tho it wasn’t 100% like cheese it had a good flavor on its own and didn’t taste artificial and tofutti for cream cheese. Now I make all my own stuff and am mostly plant based but not vegan anymore as I eat Greek yogurt and locally sourced eggs sometimes (sorry guys!) but vegan foods have come a long way since I went vegan that was for sure
You are so wonderful! Thank you for everything you do
thank you so much
love this vampy loook :D
these ranking videos are officially a comfort watch for me
That makes me very happy
@@MerleONeal Staying on the baked potato train vegan butter could be fun. I love the olive oil butter by country crock
Would love to see Forager on one of these cheese reviews. Can you do cheese crumble reviews next? And vegan dressing?
some vegan yogurt would be interesting
You should try the new Babybel plant-based cheese snacks. I was BLOWN AWAY, even my kids who love real cheese think they taste amazing. But super expensive for such a small amount of cheese 😭
omg ive never been this early, love you merle!!
right back atcha!
You live in the US, right? If you're ever in Eastern Canada -- get Gusta! It's a local, Montréalais brand that makes delicious and ooey, gooey vegan cheeses. They are on the softer/liquidier side immediately after melted, but they bubble up so nice, and settle down a bit firmer once cooled a bit. They are available in Québec for sure, and I think Ontario as well.
Can report it’s on BC as well!
@@BlueDandyLyon ooh, so it's available from coast to coast to coast, it seems! ;p
@@IDontWantThisStupidHandle yes! It is freaking amazing, their sausages became my favorite
I’ve never tried the follow your heart shredded cheddar. But the follow your heart smoked Gouda slices are so good. I’m president of the vegan club at my college and follow your heart gave us a bunch of free cheese to try.
The Good Planet solid round of Smoked Cheddar is great! I have also had the shreds and slices, and I agree that they are not hitting the mark... although the slices do make a pretty decent grilled cheese.
Great video, Merle! We featured your video on my website this week in our "Concessions" area. Link is in my bio!
#dragbonifo I got my test result and it is herpes negative
Thank you for this love😘
Violife is predominantly sold at local markets where I live. Glad to see it ranks so high!
Merle, I'm very inspired by today's sponsor, so much so that I may sock away a lifetime supply and start a cargo cult.
Couple of thoughts: Violife's cheddar is good, and there are increasing grades of agedness(?) so please give the epic mature a try. Also, Violife makes an incredible provolone, which has zero artificial taste. It's amazing. The only thing I fault most vegan cheeses for is that, nutritionally, they're pretty empty. Not sure how to fix that, but I'm glad the industry as a whole is hard at work.
Good Planet has some "Good" cold appilcations, but I've found that melted it becomes very boogery. Sorry for that image, but it's closest to verite.
Jeffrey Bezos' smoked gouda is particularly good, as much as Violife's provolone.
Okay, that's more than a couple.
WOW super helpful, thank you! Glad today's sponsor could change your life like they changed mine
Violife Epic Mature Cheddar has _ruined_ me for every other vegan cheese. It's on a whole other level. The maddening thing is that all of my local stores have stopped carrying it 😭
The Miyoko's cheddar block (which i'm assuming is the same as the sticks) is horrible but if you can find the pepperjack block, that one is amazing. It was so good it gave me false hope for the cheddar 😭
Ok so first of all your awesome ! Just found your videos … You and I must have very similar taste bud. I have tried vegan cheese over the years and have not found one that I like until I came across Violife Colby jack !!!! It’s way better then cheddar please try it
I just purchased it for the first time and tasted it while watching this video and quite honestly it tasted like real shredded cheese. I think I have finally found cheese that I can use on my tacos and sandwiches. Thanks for your videos I’ve been binging on them for two days now. Plan to use my vegan cheese in a vegan gluten-free Mac for Thanksgiving. After I watched your vegan mac & cheese video lol. The real test will be if I can fool my husband into thinking I use the regular cheese😈😅
New subby here

P.s I have a tuxedo kitty also
Omg so glad ya found me and that the rankings have been helpful! I'll have to try that Violife Colby Jack
this hairstyle is GORGEOUS on you
Merle, here's what I THINK happened with that Miyoko's cheddar cheese: It's coconut-based (& oat-based & chickpea-based, based on the first few ingredients), rather than nut-based. Miyoko's makes a lot of nut-based cheese, and apparently (at least according to YOUR taste buds) they're better with that than with coconut (which is surprising, as literally every other cheese brand featured here figured out how to use that coconut oil better).
Once again though, I can't with all that coconut oil in every cheese, so I've never had any of these and never will. I also didn't really LOVE vegan cheddar cheese when I COULD buy it. I'd prefer more vegan WHITE cheddar store-bought options.
u don't understand the serotonin i get from ur notifications😭also pleaseeee do vegan fish next lol
Miyokos is my favorite 😍 I use the cheddar shreds for macaroni and cheese
I will have to follow you on Insta because my favorite vegan cheese is Parmela, and I haven't seen them on here! Highly recommended if you ever do a part two or a follow-up!
your makeup looks great here!!!!!
You gotta try follow your heart feta and blue cheese crumbles. Scarily good
Merle looks incredible!
Violife is my favorite Non-Dairy alternative. I have tried all of their products.
We love a ranking video on a Friday 🙏🏾
I’m so in love with that follow your heart gouda. With burgers. I’m not vegan but im lactose intolerant soooo that’s what i use
I'm not vegan. I'm not even vegetarian. Not even pescatarian. Yet still, every time one of Merle's videos come up, I'm so interested! I will probably never need vegan cheese but I still love these videos lol
I don't know if you get these in the US, but Sheese & Dairy Free Down Under are, for me, some of the best vegan cheeses to try!!! Hope you can try them one day
Daiya shreds on Mac and cheese is my fav it broils really well
Ok for sure violife is top tier, but you gotta try daiya's jalapeño haverti, to me (someone who is deathly allergic to dairy, so I've never had real cheese) it slaps
That makes sense!
I'm kind of a cheese snob, but I'm also broke so when I'm craving cheese, any spicy cheese at a lower price point (lower quality) will still hit the spot. So I can imagine the spicy vegan cheese doing the same. They should offer more spicy vegan cheese, and maybe it wouldn't catch such a bad rep.
Funky smells are big no 4 me🙈 I love alpro soya milk ~ desperate need a good cheese so great video ✌️
Great review! Please do a vegan cream cheese! Thanks
So delicious is the number 1 for me 😊 Even my kids (very picky) love it! 🌱❤️
You need to try Miyoko’s aged English farmhouse cashew milk cheese (smoked version too). It tastes the most like cheese
I end up eating a lot of cooked daiya cheese but it’s mostly because it’s the most available in my area and on sale a lot. I’m just starting to see the violife cheese around and I got the slices and they were pretty tasty.
I've never had the miyokos cheddar sticks, but I really enjoy their slices, so I wonder if they are different?
In my opinion, the cheddar sticks are not that good. They are weirdly soft; like you can tell there’s a lot of coconut oil in them. I prefer Miyoko’s artisan cheese wheels instead
Dawntime Miyokos no longer makes their slices anymore.
Merle, ya got my heart with Mr. Krabs’ remark: “Do ya smell that? That smell. A kind of smelly smell. The smelly smell that smells… smelly.” If ya haven’t seen it already, please watch it! It’s so hilarious and brilliant! Search: “Mr. Krabs A smelly smell that smells smelly.”

OH I KNOW THE ONE
It took me a year and a half after becoming vegan that I could even eat vegan cheeses. I think I could remember what dairy cheese tasted like and kept comparing them and finding them lacking. Now almost 5 years later, the only raw cheese I like is Violife Greek block, it’s supposed to taste like feta, I think it tastes more like goat cheese. I also like the cream cheese. Violife came up with a Camembert type which is really good, the texture is a bit plasticky but the flavour is excellent. I like their slices for melted cheese sandwich, they also have a another one which is supposed to be like haloumi which nice fried. We don’t have the variety of vegan cheeses that they have in the US, but violife is the one I like most from the ones I’ve tried
OoOooo I've gotta try that halloumi one!
@@cookinwiththelizzard I think it’s called Mediterranean block
i know we Hate follow your heart but i recently tried their vegan feta and honestly..... it is So good especially in a greek salad
I'm not sure it this brand exists everywhere but if you have a Kroger store, I highly recommend the " Simple Truth" dairy free cheeses! Unlike other dairy free cheese brands that are a plastic like texture and don't melt well, their cheese shreds actually have the texture of cheese and are SUPER GOOEY when melted! They stay melted for awhile too, so no constant reheating 😊
I also have their cream cheese alternative which is good!
How about Chao? Your videos are so entertaining!! Thank you!!
Glad you like 'em!
The Follow Your Heart slices are okay in a faux bologna and cheeze sandwich. I like it better than a lot of the brands for that. But you are right that it doesn't taste like cheddar.
So I know this is a cheese video but your hair is AMAZING!!!!
Awwe thank you 🫣
Just letting you know the sponsor part wasn’t shown!
was just about to come say this, was sitting here like 'sponsor...cheese!'
I dont think she had a sponsor bc the video didnt have that sponsor thing in the corner? Maybe she's advertising for a sponsor.
The sponsor was just cheese maybe? Lol
i live for these
I actually love the Daiya block! Especially to eat with crackers!
The Whole Foods 365 Cheddar SHREDS are also top tier!!! They are admittedly my absolute favorite vegan cheddar cheese *sigh*. Also- re the mozzarella cheeses, you HAVE to try the Trader Joe's vegan mozzarella shreds, if you can!!!! They are soooo good.
Moocho fiesta blend has been the best shreds i have found and tasted. Got it when visiting a friend and they don't sell in my state. So upsetting
Can you do a vegan yogurt ranking next?
i'm not even vegan but your videos give me lifeeeee
D'aww you're too kind
I’m commenting before I watch so I can see if my listing equates:
Daiya has been the only consistently good brand I’ve bought. It actually melts and has a pretty consistent if somewhat odd taste. The shreds make a mean grilled cheez.
The best I’ve had was a “smoked applewood” from a local brand that I don’t expect to see on this list.
Every other brand I’ve tried either doesn’t melt right or has a totally off texture or flavour. Can’t wait to see what you think!
Good Planet came out with a Smoked Cheddar block and it's amazing! My husband says it tastes like real food
I'll have to try it!
I eat the violife slices on their own too, while I’m in the middle of making lunch 😂
OMG that miyokos stick is SO BAD!!!! I also tried them once, NEVER AGAIN. I distinctly remember the sourdough bread, yeasty taste but extra sour and rotten!!!!! It’s an F for sure!!!!!!!
Me too! I'm not sure what happened because the rest of her stuff is amazing, but the sticks taste absolutely rotten. Couldn't finish more than one.
Other than daiya, can some of these be found in Canada, or at least in BC?
For the Miyokos, with how much you were emphasizing a vomit flavor, I wonder if they added butyric acid, which is what essentially can make certain aged hard cheeses like parm smell/take ever so slightly like vomit
I use daiya shreds on nacho chips but only in the microwave for some reason. it almost dries it out a touch.
UK viewer here. koko cheese block was the best for me but it's hard to find now. coming from someone who is very picky and who gets a weird taste from most coconut based cheeses
I feel like you havent ranked vegan yogurts yet, right? It'd also be nice to see a vegan dressing vid (like for ranch and/or Caesar)... LOVE the pig tails!
Are you in the UK or US? just wonder to know if these are available local to me
If you can find it, Violife Epic Mature is by far the best for sandwiches (and probably potatoes).
For some reason most of the vegan cheeses are incredibly mild, and it's hard to find anything with any bite.
Miyoko's Roadhouse Cheddar is not bad either, but it has a slightly weird overtone of something.
Great to know!!!
I tried the VioLife shreds because everyone raves about it. Everyone in my family hated it. It made me nauseous, my son tried one bite on pasta and wouldn't eat another. Had to give it away. I feel like I'm never going to get to eat cheesar cheese again. 😭 Maybe the slices won't be disgusting.
Your Jeff Bezos rant spoke to my soul. This is how I talk to my husband whenever we need something we can't find off of Amazon.
yeah there's really something different with the shreds
I actually think the daiya cheddar block tastes the most realistic to me
When she did the Mr. Crabs quote I said it along with her 😂
I wasn’t aware there was a prize?
