    • @sapphicalix
      @sapphicalix Год назад +27

@@ImaginaryMdA you can absolutely get your money back for shitty food at theme parks. They have whole restaurants. And even at food stands, you can still get your money back when given old/bad/straight up inedible food (like that sandwich was). Same with when you’re given food that you can’t eat (like the sour cream).
Putting dairy on someone’s food who specifically ordered it without it is a *huge* liability. People have *deadly* food allergies. If one of them had a deadly dairy allergy and assumed it was vegan sour cream and ate it the park would be out millions of dollars. The person making the food has to assume anyone ordering food without an ingredient is allergic to it.
They could have absolutely gotten their money back for that, or exchanged the plate for a new one.

And like you said if someone has allergies, it could be very dangerous

I really hope you got your money back for that bánh mì. You honestly deserved your money back for a lot of what they gave you. I would have been so upset if I waited in line for 30+ minutes and got pretty much any of what you got.
We definitely need better vegan/vegetarian options. I’ve been a vegetarian for 12 years now and things have gotten a lot better in the 12 years I’ve been one but in places like theme parks, fairs, fast food places, carnivals, and the *majority* of restaurants- there are still often times no options besides salads, and I know it’s even worse for vegans.
Also I wonder if they specified that the fries were vegetarian because some fries are cooked in beef fat or made with beef seasoning (like the McDonald’s ones).
I’m wondering if they were actually vegan as well but the person working just didn’t know the difference. The didn’t have any seasoning on them (besides salt) so I can’t imagine what would make them vegetarian but not vegan.

Sometimes fries can be labelled as vegetarian but not vegan due to sharing the same cooking oil as other products that contain egg and/or dairy, e.g. mozzarella sticks. Quite often the ingredients themselves are vegan (just potatoes) but it’s due to the cooking process. Hope this helps 😊

    • @sapphicalix

@@dollfacedghoul right but I would still consider that vegan, as would a lot of vegans. That’s just cross-contamination but doesn’t actually cause any harm to any animals. As someone who’s allergic to beef and dairy (milk protein allergy) I learned that most parks, including Universal, they use the same oil for their mozzarella sticks / other dairy and meat products so they can’t label any fried food vegan because it all shared the same oil. Some places do it right and have a fryer dedicated to dietary restrictions, some places in Disney do this AND they take it very seriously, so it’s guaranteed to be vegan… but from the sounds of it if the fries were considered vegetarian the fried pickles would most likely be considered vegetarian as well because of the shared oil. It’s a shame places still don’t understand the difference between vegan and vegetarian.

I just went to Universal again last week and I almost always bring my own food, but this time I didn't and I basically starved. I went to Mel's and they were sold out of the specialty vegan drink. Ok fine. So I ordered the vegan burger and after waiting thirty minutes was told that "we just got the beyond meat so it's going to be about another forty minutes" which.....what?? So over an HOUR?? Please. So I cancelled it and went across the way to get the tried and true vegan banh mi and the entire park was sold out of it??? I guess somebody forgot to put the order in.
I went back to sit with my family, food-less and they forgot to give my sister her fries and my mom's burger was burned to a crisp. Oh, and NONE OF THE FRIES IN THE ENTIRE PARK ARE VEGAN BECAUSE THEY PUT MILK IN THEM WHY
I had an apple and a butterbeer for the whole day and the butterbeer you have to buy special inside the three broomsticks restaurant and the line for the restaurant (because people were there to order food, not just a singular drink) was around 30-40 mins.
Universal's lack of options is so weird for a park in LA, it just doesn't make sense, but Universal's food is definitely some of the worst in the theme park business and 800x worse if you're vegan.
Edit: still watching the video, I just want to point out that the vegan burger at Mel's Diner is advertised IN THE NAME as the Vegan Beyond BBQ Cheeseburger. The full description includes lettuce, tomato, pickle, veganaise, on a whole wheat bun served with crinkle cut fries. The description in the park's designated app marks it V for vegan (read: NOT VG for vegetarian, the app has a legend that notes the difference) but you don't know until you order that the fries are NOT VEGAN. Look at Merle's dry burger. No BBQ. No vegan cheese. No veganaise.
I ended up not doing the 3 broomsticks because the line was too long and I'm glad I didn't because why would they bother to advertise a shepherds pie vegan option when they don't have it??

Every time I’ve been at Universal, I never scour the whole park in search of vegan options. I usually settle for some kind of snack. That being said, I’m thrilled to see the options, but then let down as you girls tried them all. This is sad, we are in So Cal, LA area, kind of a vegan capital, yet tasty, thought out dishes were hard to come by for you girls 😩
You should of went to Voodoo Donuts for some vegan ones….now those are good!!

Enjoyed the video. Hope they take note and improve the vegan options. Let’s just face it though, Lucille is going to be the best part of any video she appears in.

I LOVE these series! I prefer Impossible over Beyond so I’ll be bringing my own food to Universal! ❤
    Next stop- hospitals.
You think we have poor options at Theme Parks? All they ever bring are fruit cups, “salad” and hummus plates. And then find it annoying when I send half the crap back!

Public hospitals in Australia are getting food at bringing us vegan options. Not in emergency of course, there you can expect 8 packets of 2 dry crackers and a juice but then if you stay in a ward the chances are better.

Hospitals are the worst*! Luckily I as allowed to bring food in for my partner when he had a stay there. They tried to give him fried eggs and bacon even though they knew he's on medication for high cholesterol

I have been going once a year for a while and I usually eat a big meal before I go in and eat the jumbo asparagus plate at the three broomsticks. It can be made vegan by swapping the mashed potatoes for roasted potatoes. The last time I went it was not on the menu that I saw, but they still had it when I asked for it. This is the only way I survive eating at USH.

Do you gals ever do rice cake buns with Beyond Burgers? I always use rice cakes for buns. I usually end up getting just fries at restaurants, because salads are too oniony. I believe fries are all vegan, but "seasoned" fries might not be gluten free. As long as you order regular fries, they do not have anything other than salt and oil. I wish I could open a vegan restaurant with my special spice on all the veggie and fruit dishes and burgers. So yummy, gluten free and super energizing! Andrographis, milk thistle, myrrh, galangal, cinnamon and other herbs differing from month to month. Next time you go on vacation, just get a jar of peanut butter, Clif bars, some fresh fruit and veggies, and at each restaurant, just fries. Bring your own powder seasoning like I did!

I'm glad that there's something to eat there that's vegan, but this video had me laughing so I wouldn't cry. Ya'll are so generous with those ratings. Universal doesn't deserve the B's you gave them, that food is a disgrace. Vegan food isn't this hard to do right, and the fact there wasn't a single thing in the whole park that deserved an S is sad. I'm so sorry Merle - I love you & your channel and I feel like I'm leaving a negative comment, but the negativity isn't towards you at ALL. I'm so glad that you guys still were able to have a beautiful, fun day despite the tragic food available.
