The "35mm" in 35mm film isn't the diagonal, it's the height of the film including the sprocket holes! A 35mm/"full frame" image or sensor is 24x36mm, which gives it a diagonal of about 43mm.

Computational photography in large format cameras is happening with auto-focus, as Dan says, and color science. But in terms of auto-HDR, blurring, and mimicing these other generated effects found in smartphones, I don't know any professionals that want that.

Agreed. I want to tweak and edit my own photos manually in lightroom/photoshop to make them "mine" and not have the camera do it for me.

I think it depends on how good you could make them. If you’re shootings raw on a large format camera, you edit it with software on your computer or iPad or whatever, and do so to your eye, which is time consuming as we all know but can produce fantastic pictures. But if you had a full size camera that could automatically take a photo and adjust color, detail, depth of field, do focus stacking automatically etc, as an option to shooting raw, why wouldn’t you want it? I think it would be great to have as an option and just like smartphone cameras, could get better and better all the time. I do product photography but imagine being able to weddings or events etc and be able to take both at one time, a raw photo and a computational jpeg and then looking at both and seeing of the computational photos are what you would do and as good as what you do with editing software. It would be a time saver, and you still need to have the skill to setup lighting and angles and how to stage the photos etc, but could help you produce as good or neuter photos quicker.

I've got the Arsenal 2 Pro shipping to me for my mirrorless once they resolve some late stage supply issues. I can't believe we're still waiting for computational processing to arrive on traditional camera bodies in 2021.

  • @Raja995mh33

Full frame isn't 35mm in diagonal. It's 35mm in width. A normal full frame sensor is 35x24mm. Which results in a diagonal of about 42mm, not 35.
I personally still hate the way Android manufacturers are going with their just stupid amount of megapixels. I was so happy when this stupid trend about higher MP stopped in 2013-2014. But now it's worse than ever.
Like seriously. We were used to have lower resolutions with big pixels and use image shift to take higher res pictures if needed. And now it's the opposite. We have huge MP counts and take much lower resolution pictures for some goddamn reason. "108MP" on paper but in reality you still only get 12. What bullshit is this.

I think a good comparison to the sensor size vs the real size is lumber. A 2x4 isn't actually 2" by 4" , it's actually 1.5" by 3.5".

    4:3 1" sensor is 60% larger than HM3 used by S21 Ultra.
Simple way to explain the size.
And 5x larger than camera of pixel 5.

I have a photographer question. If you shoot RAW with your professional camera, can you use Google for processing in Google Photos on your computer?
It was a crazy thought. If Google is bleeding end on computational photography and a professional camera can give you epic shots, together it sounds like a great combo for best pics results.
    Just curious.

    • @OmarSS87
      @OmarSS87 2 года назад +1

What google and apple do is basically edit the jpeg.
You do not need these tricks for raw because you can do whatever you want with the photo.
Tune colours, play with exposure, contrast levels, control noise reduction level, make shadows brighter or darker etc ...

Computational photography is fine for most people. I don't see all the fuss about comparing two different types of shooting. I like to learn photography skills. So, I will always prefer phone that can shoot raw with all manual control. Who just want point and shoot, buy an iphone or pixel. And don't listen to other party.

Seems people are getting hyper about camera, micro quality like we never had been in history. All in all, I think, pixel and apple have the best most reliable cameras generally. Pixel particularly will pick up on skill deficiency with exceptional computational results. It's exciting. My Canon camera can't do as good.

I personally am just tired of people calling someone straight up "fanboy" just because they don't agree on his opinion 🙄
And stop talking about "we are tired". No. YOU are tired of this. Apple, Google etc. wouldn't do what they do with Computational photography if people didn't liked it. But most of them do.
