Yesss I just got into fujifilm because of David

Exactly, and cover that z6iii
I wish he did. Back in 2015 and back he would talk about them often

Guys. I found the problem of the R5 II. It's the price.
A'd Sony and nikon got better offering
@@alexisrenaudin1017they do ?
If that’s your complaint then it’s not meant for you. Those specs for that price is crazy.
It's the lenses
I second this 😂
MKBHD start doing camera reviews bro and canon R5mk2 deserves that
FACT CHECK: The previous batteries DO work, just gonna need the new ones for the “oomph” that the cooling battery grip is going to require.
This! Also, certain modes & features of the camera will require the new battery (eG 8k 60)
No third party batteries will work in the r5 mark ii smh. I don't wanna have to purchase a bunch of $80 batteries when the Neewer LPE6NH are surprisingly AMAZING
Apparently Third Party batteries don’t work at all at the moment.
Being a photographer and camera enthusiast, I finally feel like I’m ahead of these guys and can comprehend things better than they do 😂 ahhh! Finally!
Yeah Marques being surprised about Eye AF is sweet
JEsus Loves you all God is real and HE loves you sooooooooo much :)
@@AllanRochez cool story bro
@@mikemoros not eye AF - eye track - its different.. I think only one camera has this - the camera will follow your eye when you put your eye to it
they got so much stuff slightly wrong and it's driving me nuts lol
6:49 We got to hear Marques saying GYAATTT before gta6 💀
This is the correct take. Camera gear nerds are NUTS. I watch many of their channels, and I still say this. They always find something it's missing and how-dare-they-not-include-everything-I-wanted. But all these high end modern mirrorless cameras are amazing and do everything needed for 99% of users.
Though FYI the eye control unfortunately isn't super reliable -- you have to calibrate it a lot for it to work.
Read your comment before they mentioned it, but realized you’re talking about eye control AF. It was also in the R3
People have the R1 is better, but we will have to wait. The R3's is definitely a mixed bag. Very telling that in the default mode the big set button quickly toggles it on/off.
hey can you recommend a few camera gear channels? i think my algorithm doesn’t realize that i’m into cameras :p
@@gaanxd My favorite is probably Tony and Chelsea Northrup. I enjoy their videos a lot. But they do the whole gear nerd thing I'm talking about, like most channels. In many videos they admit that all these modern cameras do the job completely fine, but the gear videos and nitpicking get the views so they kind of have to do that. I do like that they try to be pretty scientific with their reviews and analysis.
@@gaanxd Jared Polin, Gordon Laing, Christopher Frost, Petapixel with Jordan and Chris, those are kinda my go-tos for camera gear. But like @d_dave7200 said, cameras are so good these days, you could really do a lot with any brand’s modern cameras, and a lot of the differences and gripes the big RUclipsrs talk about are really minor things for the most part.
Eye autofocus only works in photo mode. It’s disabled in video mode.
As for using it in photo mode, you can set af to recognize particular faces to stay on.
That's a pretty cool feature if you can pick up a single face In a crowed.
Just so yall know Sony and another brand that eludes me has had pick a face feature for like 10 years
For the R5MarkII, it CAN ustilize older LP-E6N and E6NH batteries with some performance reductions.
The reason for this, is because the R5 Mark II asks for more batter output to power the second processor inside these cameras, previous generation batteries just simply dont have the output. That being said, the new LP-E6P batteries for the R5 Mark II are backwards compatible all the way to canon DSLRs. Hope this helps!
Lmao I scared the dog when Marques asked if the sensor is a triangle 😂
Andrew and David speak like their sentences never end
Shot with an r5c for 2 years. Absolutely loved the thing. My new office is all Sony fx cameras now. The r5c can do 45mp stills and do 4k 120 with audio it's literally the perfect hybrid camera. I think I carried 8 batteries with me at a time and I could go through a whole professional/collegiate track meet with them(about 8 hours). I miss it so much.
I have the R3 and with regards the eye track focus feature. Once you look at what you want to focus on you can press the back button “AF lock”, hold it down and then you can scan the rest of the scene and the focus point won’t change.
Just stopping in to say the LP-E6, LP-E6N, and LP-E6NH batteries DO work in the R5Mk II
wait, it was different in Mark I?
Correct, the ones included in the box are LP-E6P, instead of the recent LP-E6NH. The P version has a higher power output needed for some features, but the older LP-E6 models will technically work for most cases with the R5 MK II, aside from higher end video and the cooling battery grip.
3:01 Shutters don’t protect sensors. Shutters are more delicate than sensors. Plus the dust is still on the back of the lens or on the shutter, the latter which is hard to clean. The dust still will get on the sensor
When they say protect they mean stop any big dust or moisture particles getting on the sensor during lens change which in most peoples experience is when stuff gets on the sensor that can not be removed by the vibration sensor cleaning process.
@@MrStevegibb that big dust is still in the chamber between the lens and the shutter when mounted. As soon as the shutter opens, its capable of getting on the sensor.
5:41 can’t tell if they were subtley showing us uncolored CLOG 1 to match their dialogue
One major upgrade to the R5 MKII is the stacked sensor which eliminates rolling shutter when shooting stills in Electronic Shutter. Not sure if this also applies to video.
It's about time! I've been eagerly anticipating camera talk sessions. 😢
"Is the sensor triangle ?" had me 🤣🤣
Underrated 🤣
So that Eye control autofocus by Canon is a very cool feature that's been around for a long time as you guys mentioned. I actually have a few film cameras equipped with that feature and it's nice especially since it's been around from the mid 90s. Also all my film cameras that have it still work well.
It does come with caveats, like mentioned where if you're looking at something behind the subject the focus can change depending on autofocus mode but if you are locked in on the subject you want to photograph then it's great. Another thing is that it can be inconvenient with cameras that have only three auto focus points like the early versions but that is where the benefit of modern cameras with more focus points come into play. If I'm not mistaken that feature skipped the entire DSLR generation then came back in the R3.
we're begging for camera gear reviews please 🙏
Please please please... Would you check if the C400 (26 MP) and the R1 (24 mp) both capable of C-log 2 xf-avc video. could be the perfect match?
Looks like the sensors would match, kind of... both in color and sharpness..
Would be great to se if those two and the RF 24-105 F 2,8 + the 15-35 F2.8 would be the only 4 items you would need in these modern times for photo and video.
I know people will let you know but I just want to list things here, I was looking forward to upgrade from R6 mkIi to R5 ii but not gonna now.
- sensor readout speed lower than Z8/Z9 but 400 USD pricier.
- Still over heats in few video modes which is disappointing when others (Sony/Nikon) can read faster and don't overheat.
- Should have designed around existing LPE6NH, instead of doing an apple move, use new battery or features don't work.
- Eye tracking AF is not new, have been in R3 all this time, unless it's super effective in this iteration, not a real USP to buy.
- Very bad pre capture implementation, fixed duration of 0.5 seconds and usual Canon shenanigans towards waiting for buffer to clear. Still using a SD card which might have limited some features.
Note: Its still a great camera no doubt, but these things come up only when you compare with existing offerings from other brands and think why they are taking longer to release and asking more money for a relatively inferior product. These releases are definitely rushed and Canon has just tried to frankestine R3 features into these 2 bodies, trying to catch up a losing battle after Z8 and A9 III release.
They should have taken a bit longer but actually delivered a good product.
Peace out!
This. Also Canon has nothing to compete with the a7R for landscape / studio etc. That could have manifested as an R5S or something, but right now there's just nothing. Just like wide, fast primes for RF mount 🙃
Canon also doesn't have a great lineup of lenses
When you use an external monitor on the R5 or R5c and are in still mode, the LCD shuts off. I would like it if the LCD stayed on so I could control the camera settings. It works in video mode but not in still. On the Nikon, both external and LCD work in still mode. Do you know if that has changed on the mill?
Eye af 1 is in eos r3
technically it did exist in Canon EOS film cameras, but yes the current era of it started with the EOS R3.
@@Kevon420 agreed
I have no idea what they are talking about with cameras. But listening to them nerd out about cameras. The same way I do with DJ equipment kind of brightens my day.
The old batteries work... just some features will be disabled.
Guys, great video talkin about Canon. Would be great to hear more regarding what lenses you use in the studio, what video formats and why. Would welcome a video like that!
The eye af was first introduced on digital in the R3. Some people loved it some people hated it, so it seems like it works better for some people than others.
I would love that feature, but that's not in my budget right now.
I think they should just ditch HDMI and add an additional USB video port.
My first SLR was the Canon EOS 50e (I think it was called the ELAN IIe over there) that had eye tracked focus (3 focus points) - it actually worked pretty well.
the R5 mark 1 batteries do work but they disable certain things like the internal raw recording. You can still do standard 10bit XAVC recordings and take photos with the mark 1's batteries
Which Camera and Lens does the guy at 0:34 hold up ? Which canon camera is that
Think of the Eye Tracking as a focus point. You can look anywhere you like and follow the eye tracker with you can visibly see, THEN you can half press to focus on it and then take your photo. if you look away you wont lose focus until you half press again.
The main downside for video is that R5II won’t do 4K 60p oversampled, so you’re forced to shoot 8K 60 if you want quality 60fps. They should just fix that in firmware because it’s definitely capable of doing it if they allow it to do it.
i'm now feeling the technical limitations of my camera - for what is arguably entry level, thanks to the ergonomics the bokeh on my portraits is to die for
but, it only shoots 1080p 60 fps, to shoot 120 fps (119) my camera can only go up to 720p, there is no audio recorded nor does the auto-focus work whilst recording in 'high frame rate'
and it stutters trying to shoot it's supposed '10 fps' in high-continuous burst mode
my 22mm lens is a brilliant little lens, going as fast as F2
and my 50mm is an F1.8, but due to the crop factor it's more like an 80mm, and it has an adaptor just to fit, and i'm not sure how much more that pushes the focal length, and the aperture value
with all this said, it holds up well
but i just want to be able to naively shoot 1080p 120fps w/ auto-focus and sound
and maybe a higher resolution photograph, with better, more improved auto-focus system
i recognise i am shooting on an older model, released in march 2018
but 6 years in the world of cameras - so much has changed and become a standard
even simple things like having USB-C, and not having a recording limit
Remember that your F2 is actually producing the image that an F2.8 lens would on a full frame camera, when you do conversions between crop and fullframe, you have to apply the crop factor to both the focal length AND the aperture to get a truly equivalent image.
What do you think about the new Nikon A6iii? I heard the video capability is better than most Canon cameras out there.
Sony also does have that shutter , like in a1 or a7 , not sure I guess both has it , but u will have to get into settings and enable the function, so that when u remove the lens the shutter protects the sensor .
I so enjoyed all the Waveform Clips.
Olympus/OM systems has has computational capabilities for many years; they are really useful. Lumix has a few computational tools too.
The r5 ii is great, but they missed heavily on the R1, not global shutter, and only 40fps at 24mp while the Sony a9iii has a global shutter and 120fps in RAW. The A1 is 3 years old and can still do 30fps at 50mp in 12 bit RAW. Canon really missed the mark and should have called it an R3 ii . The AF and eye AF is great though.
R1 has all area cross type autofocus points which can see almost no contrast surface which something no mirrorless camera can do it except some Olympus camera models
the a9iii does not shoot 120fps in RAW, it shoots in jpeg at that frame rate
@@Reuel_Media no it shoots 120 FPS RAW, not Jpeg. You're thinking of the Nikon Z9 or Z8
So the biggest issue people have with the R1 and R5II is that they aren't really doing much to improve them. A bit if an iterative update for a camera system that is losing users more and more each year. Canon is also getting a lot of pushback still with the lack of 3rd Party lens support like Sigma and Tamron. For me I think they're objectively great cameras, but Sony and Nikon are pushing the envelope a little more.
i hear you but i only agree on the R1
@@montavioNikon is pushing what? I'm sorry am i missing something? The potato cameras finally catching up with the AF I don't see Nikon being better in anyway?
I had no idea he was a Canon dude! My man is a man of many tastes.
Agreed, Canon cameras are pretty great but often a bit flawed. I've had mutliple DSLR / mirrorless / cinema cameras across Sony Canon (C100, C200, 6D, R6, FX3, FX30, FX6...) and I always come back to something pretty simple. If I'm shooting video more than half the time a rigged out mirrorless becomes mandatory which makes me just want to keep cinema camera form factor. Buttons, waveforms, ND's, XLR audio, handles, grips, monitors - all make day to day work so much more productive and enjoyable. The price tag of $4K+ is what makes me scratch my head. Great conversation thank you!
Is the R5 Mark II running Canon’s Cinama OS like the R5C? I don’t think it is?
It's not and that's a good thing. The Cinema OS eats batteries like a hungry hippo.
Does anybody know if the camera body of the R5 II is the same size as the Mark I ? Asking for an underwater housing that I use with the Mark I. Wondering if the new one will fit into it
The R5II does not have the flexible "smart controller" of the R3 and R1, which I do enjoy.
The R5II's eye control is reportedly more similar to the R3 than R1, where the R1 will have a /much/ more reliable version. The R1 EVF looks stellar as well.
CLog2 likely means no R5C II, which could be a loss for those who really prefer the video OS of canon cameras.
Most folks are made that there is not a high MP version of the R1, but I'm OK with that.
P.S. Y'all really need to look into the Canon Upgrade program (or a B&H rep if you don't have one...) ...there is no way you should be paying retail at the amount of spend/gear that the studio has.
It sill lacks anti-theft technology.
Canon Eye tracking mentioned! the main reason why i got the EOS Elan 7 film camera!
Finally, some camera stuff.
The Eye focus tech is already in the U.S Airforce, they have implemented retina tracking so, they can track target with eye and fire. All because response time of our eye is the fastest.
So, it's a similar kind of tech. And I think you can turn it off if you don't want it.
I don’t understand, apart for people that already have too many rf lenses to switch, how is this better than a z8, or even a z6 if you don’t need 8k ?
Y’all really gotta stop sleeping on Nikon…these cameras are really just catching up to the Z8 and Z9, and in some ways, they still haven’t.
I feel like most of the RUclips space sleeps on the newer Nikons.
The EOS Elan IIe had that eye tracking AF back in the late nineties.
I like this canon episode. Please bring more camera videos.❤
What was that white camera that guy was holding?
C70 and R5C here and I love them.
R5II 4k60 is line skipped not oversampled, that's the cripple hammer feature.
@@Mr.Zen_73 Just let your NLE downsample it. Drop 8K60 files on a 4K timeline. Better results. More flexibility.
@@80-80. Are you even real
The problem with this camera is that I don't even take photos. Why would they even make this product if it's not meant specifically for me?
\s
The R5 II still overheats though… 😅 I’d go with the R5C for video as it is actually reliable little camera and just add external batteries onto it for all day filming
What is better 6K-RAW-LT 60fps what are not overheating or overheating 8K-RAW-LT 60fps after 21 minutes with the BG? The infos can be found at "dpreview". Something where you have to worry about issues after minutes, is not usable for professional usage (in my eyes). For this case, the R1 offers better video specs than the R5MKII. What I miss in the R1 is 6K-RAW-LT 120fps... that would have been nice.
Waveforms are only available on the R5II
The main issue with the R5II would seem to be that it has less dynamic range compared to the R5. DPReview apparently tested and it seems they sacrificed DR for shooting speed :/
I really hope this isn’t true, and CLOG 2 is just as good as we expect it to be.
I think eye tracking is just for still photos not for VIDEO :(
Do these guys even know there is a nikon Z8 which was released ages ago with that same specs as R5ii or better with some specs?
Prebuffer is only Jpg. Also focus is just better on Canon. Not to mention ISO and inbody Noise reduction. Tech specs are similar, but details matter.
@@tuctuctuctucbalkan exactly right, ibis, video quality, iso, DR, etc is tad bit better in Z8 than R5ii.
More camera talk plz and thank you
Actually some mirrorless do not have the shutter closed when you change lenses or when the camera is off because the shutter supposedly is far more fragile than the sensor is
It’s interesting to hear about this from a tech/gear enthusiast vs a photographer’s perspective. This release fell pretty flat in the photography/creative world. Most reviewers were concerned that they weren’t better options over the Z8 and Sony cameras.
Eye tracking was on the r3 as well.
It’s not that the R5 ii can’t use old batteries, it’s that you lose some features. Because the old ones don’t output enough power
no pixel shift high res mode in Raw.
No one needs 8K. 4K is overkill and 1080P is more than enough.
Uhhh no. 8K is very important for cropping.
One problem. If you have a monitor plugged into the HDMI port you can no longer use the viewfinder.
The R1 is the pinnacle of DSLR style cameras. If you're a professional photographer it has everything you need. Canon has brought the professional photographer a perfect chefs kiss of a camera that achieves everything the 5D Mk ONE paved the future for. If you want any more specificity the DSLR shape needs to be left behind. Hassleblad and phase one are a different shape, the C400 and FX6 is a different shape.
Nikon z8 and z9 have all the feature that you guys are mentioned as a advantage
Most people mentioned most flaws of the new R5 Mk II, but I'll just mention the big one for me, which others have mentioned. Even with the cooling grip, the R5 Mk II will overheat. It'll just take longer. The Camera probably gets hotter than the original R5, because it's working with 2 processors now, instead of 1. So while the original R5 used to overheat, it doesn't overheat at all anymore, after the firmware 1.6 update. The R5 Mk II will overheat, even with the grip.
And on a side note, the original Canon R5 DID have Canon log 2, when you recorded 8K Raw, however, there was no point. C-Log 2 is really for sensors that have 15 or more stops of dynamic range. The R5 and the R5C only had 14 stops of dynamic range, which is why Canon found there was no point in using it on a sensor that can't handle it. We can never really know for sure, but I believe it didn't have anything to do with cannibalizing their cinema cameras.
The eye AF came out on the R3 a few years ago.
we need a canon r5 mark 2 review asap
I own a canon m200 ii, and i think is the best camera. Also own a 77d which I use like ones a year.
eye control focus on the a2e is wild. especially coming from a 30 year old camera. and like they said, why wasn't it used ever again is even crazier. i mean the only caveat was it only worked in landscape orientation. but its impressive how will it worked...across the 5 auto focus points. switching systems just isnt practical. but if i could id like get these.
Please MKBHD start reviewing flagship cameras 📸
The achilles heel of the R5 Mk. II is that they had to sacrifice 0.4EV of dynamic range to get faster readouts
one gripe i have with Canon is the lack of user profiles.
i can only load up 3 film recipes.
i wish i could have like 20 of them.
You can use the batteries from the mark 1 actually!
Video to photo switch should be on the right in place of the power switch.
The R6 mark ii had that issue.
Can't believe cannon didn't correct this.
This was so much fun to watch.
absolute canon fanboy here, in my experience as a photographer by trade, the following are the things that really suck with current R cameras:
some older EF glass make shutter blackout much longer and don't allow for the faster burst modes: this happens with a lot of EF-L ones too, yet it probably depends on older af motors and iris being slower than more recent ones.
when you swap EF lenses, the shutter curtain doesn't come down as with RF lenses.
third party EF lenses will disable IBIS. when you put a canon EF lens back on, IBIS will stay off unless the lens has IS and its switch is turned on.
compatible batteries will decrease overall performance: longer shutter blackout, slower burst modes.
these last points are totally intentional by canon.
why am I still on EF glass? EF lenses price has decreased significantly, yet glass doesn't rot and L stuff is still L stuff; current AF tech make them all much better than they ever were on DSLRs; plus, I can have one very well curated lens kit and use them on any of my EOS, R, and M bodies. did I mention adapters with drop-in filters?
Started out a Canon fanboy now I’m mostly using Sony
I wish the screens were detachable and work via something like bluetooth or link with a smartphone
And yet full frame RF lenses with AF are still closed to Sigma, Tamron, etc. How can you overlook that?
Talking about cameras changes MKBHD 😂😂😂
Correction:
The film camera EOS3 debuted the eye tracking feature, and the 2022 canon R3 brought it back
1:48 finally full-size HDMI
Does this have proton cannon mega optic blast?
I heard the justification for the shutter, not coming down on mirrorless cameras when you take the lens off is that the shutter is more fragile than the sensor and so it’s better for the camera to just clean the sensor when it gets dirty, then it is to risk damaging the shut up. I’m not sure how true that is, but it makes sense if it does.
EOS R3 had the Eyetracking AF
No cripple hammer finally on a canon camera it seems! All the video wish list items I had from my R5 mark I got added to the mark II so I’m going to get it! Should be a great companion to my C70!
No oversampled 4k60.
Canon needs to open up 3rd party support for lenses. They lost me unfortunately to Sony. If they figure out the lens mess, I'll consider swapping back at some point.
"Is the sensor a triangle" 😂😂
No 8K oversampled 4K60p in the R5 II….
Even the R5C had 8K oversampled 4K60p which proves that the image processor is capable of it. Nikons Z9 and Z8 have also had full sensor rousing OVERSAMPLED 4K at 60fps but the R5 II is a downgrade from the R5C and is still limited to oversampled 4K at only 30fps..
Yes there is. 4K Fine RAW is the oversampled 8k to 4k 60p.
@@visionmautowho told you that?
@@visionmautoI just checked again. Not even the official Canon manual says that which is really disappointing as the years old R5C was capable of it but now they removed it from the R5 Mark II…
@@jonasgillmann Correction, 4k Fine IS 8k Oversampled to 4k, but not in RAW (though you do get LOG 2), but a reminder that this isn't an R5C, R5 Mark II is not supposed to replace it. R5C is a video focused camera with stills built in, R5 Mk II is a stills camera with strong video.
Different cameras for different jobs if you specifically want 8K Raw oversampling.
@@visionmauto Nikon offered 8K oversampled 4K 60p YEARS ago in their Z8 and Z9.
Canon only offers the highest quality 4K (4K Fine - 8K oversampled) up to 30fps and NOT 4K60p which has become the norm after both Canons R5C and Nikons normal cameras offered 8.6K oversampled 4K at up to 60fps NOT only 30fps like Canon.
I can’t believe they are surprised with eye tracking ! My Elan 7e From 2000 had it
well majority of all modern mirrorless and DSLR cameras do not have it so the shock is warranted
