    I got a partial tear on my R rotator cuff at work 6 yrs ago. They said I didn't need surgery but I've had pain since then. Then I ended up having the same thing happen to my L shoulder this year. I hurts all the time, way more than the R one. No one ever mentioned a sling. I'm so getting one for each. Wish pain would stop. It's been 6 yrs. It actually hurts more on my biceps and triceps more than the rotator cuff area

      Hey redwoodsgal! It's great that you're going to try using the sling method! It might be hurting into your bicep and tricep area because the nerves that pass through the shoulder are irritated. That's a really common side effect. Working on getting the upper trap muscles stronger should help. Best of luck to you redwoodsgal!

    I healed a rotator cuff tear naturally with PRP and lots of manual therapy. It took almost two years because I did not wear a sling. Now I have the same tear on the other shoulder. This time I’m using a sling and it makes a BIG difference. Thx for your tips!

    Thank you. I was pulling on a tree root when I heard a pop. What your explaining makes so much more sense than my GP who said to begin practicing right away 'walking' my arm up a wall with my fingers until I could reach above my head.

      Hey Jacqueline! Sorry to hear about your shoulder injury 😢
      Yes, walking fingers up the wall does not do a whole lot for your shoulder. The exercises we show here are wayyyy more impactful for healing a rotator cuff injury.

      @@epmanualphysicaltherapy Thank you so much. I didn't think it would, especially when my arm was to be straight out to my side. The pain was horrifying. I'll be purchasing a sling and the adjustable grip tensioner tomorrow. Cheers!

    My physiotherapist gave me the yellow band to use for 4 different exercises! Been using for 3 weeks but AC joint still painful! Maybe I should stop using it and work on hand exercises, shrugging etc?

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  Год назад

      Absolutely yes! The band exercises don’t do much for the AC joint. You might need to get into a sling to get the AC joint to heal in the short term.

    Thanks Dr D. I'm going to buy a hand grip gadget like that. Both my shoulders are effected so I'm not sure about the sling - unless I do one arm for an hour and then the other maybe. The shrugging I've already started. Thanks so much for all u do.

      Hey Miriam! Great to hear that you're going to start the grip exercises. The sling is really important for healing a rotator cuff problem. Your best bet is to try it out and see if it helps you out. It's especially helpful for people with very irritated rotator cuff injuries.
      We're happy to hear that you've started the shrugs. Hopefully you can get great relief and avoid surgery.

      @@epmanualphysicaltherapy Do you mind me asking - as both my shoulders are affected would you advise me to work on one shoulder at a time, with the sling, during the 1 to 4 week period or work on both shoulders by moving the sling from one arm to the other during the day or maybe one day on the right side and the next day on the left side, during the 1 to 4 week period ?

    A few weeks ago, I was doing some lightweight backrows, and a few days later, my shoulders began aching quite painfully; the right shoulder is worse than the left, and I have been having trouble gripping and lifting items. Finally decided this has to be a rotator cuff injury, but I want to try to heal it naturally before heading to the doctor. Thank you! I have some spring grips and an arm sling and am also giving myself permission to take it easy on my shoulders to let them heal!

    Excellent video. One thing I think u could have explained better. New injuries everything u said is 100%. Old chronic rotator cuff injuries,especially if u have physical job. You should be strengthening your RC muscles but with light weight high reps. You have to stay strong or you will be way more prone to exacerbating the injury.

    I'm 7 months post op repair of rotator cuff. Felt good after therapy but overworked the shoulder starting a pull start mower and bass fishing tournaments, Ended up with a very angry shoulder per doctor, repair is still intact. I was put on Prednisone since I can't take over the counter Advil more than as needed. After Prednisone I still had a pulling pain standing with my arm hanging. About two weeks ago I got a shot of Cortizone and it helped but still have that pulling sensation soon as I get out of bed. Although it has gotten better. The question is will a heavy duty grip device and the shoulder shrugs be best to rest my tendon? If i massage that area as you describe it give immediate temporary relief. My former physical therapy place is booked out for 3 months. Thank You

    I have got the best information about repairing my shoulder from this wonderful man. The things he's saying don't do are exactly what they gave me to do at physical therapy. I tried doing them but oh my gosh my shoulder /arm would just scream at me at night. Then I learned it was the radial nerve at the bottom of the deltoid muscle that was really causing so much pain in my arm. I kept working with an elderly lady that I had to move regularly re-injuring any progress I made. I'm going into my 6th month with this shoulder. I am much stronger than I was but I'm tired of getting hurt. I took a month off. I only have 2 more weeks but I'm gonna reconsider going back.😮
