I too recently went for a PING fitting in Gainsborough - I totally agree with Mark about being tired at the end of the session.. the Driver, woods and putter fitting I was knackered as put so much into the irons... also said they couldn't get me any better than the 3 wood I already had, so they're honest too. I'd recommend anyone going there for a fitting, much better than American Golf all day long..
@@JamesRobinsonGolf I have really enjoyed your RUclips journey. I recall the video you made, showing how your early vids used to be. I admit, they didn't have the "energy" you show now. I love the vids with Chris, and that banter between you two. You remind me so much of Rick Shields and Peter Finch and how its like a vlog from a golfing buddy. In these times, your vids mean more to folks than I think you realize, for those reasons.
Regarding your driver, they gave you a playing length of 45" which was standard driver length for most company's in the not too distant past. It is by no means a 3 wood length. Pings tour shaft is actually shorter than the Alta when they are both stock length, 45.5 to 45.75.
Ask Mark if he had gone to Callaway or Taylor made does he think he might be as happy? I wonder if the fitting is as important as the brand. It's great to see a mid handicapper playing well. I believe that if you gave him two shots a hole he would be so relaxed and confident he would murderlize you! Keep having fun!
I’ve got the i200’s in my bag right now. They’re ok but will be looking to change back to forged next year. Great video and great to see you’re playing well Mark. 😃👍🏻⛳️👍🏻😃
Regarding Mark's 3 wood shaft in the driver suggestion... I think standard for the Alta CB is 45.75". So they cut it to 45. Feels short because of his height maybe?
Agreed. 45” is not a 3 wood shaft. I’m 5’10” and actually have a 43” 3 wood shaft in my driver. Love it. More control for sure. I have a hard time hitting “up” on driver. As such, I pushed the loft up to 12 and am now hitting longer (higher flight line).
45” should be standard. I don’t have empirical data, but I’d reckon 75% of PGA tour pros are at 45” or shorter, notably with Ricky Fowler at 43.5” and driving yardage leader, Cam Champ, at 44.25”. I also play my irons +1/2” and a 45” driver, there’s nothing wrong with that.
Great video. It was interesting to see Mark's opinion on getting fitted for a complete set of clubs. I'm a 7.2 handicap and have put together my current set of clubs by trial and error. I was not fitted. I went through 3 drivers before going with a titleist 917 and 2 sets of irons before going with Callaway Apex forged 16. 3 different wedges before going with Cleveland RTX4. And stayed with my Scotty Cameron blade putter. I'm completely satisfied with every club in my bag and wouldn't change a thing. Although fitting myself by trial and error and going with what worked best on the course I do wonder could a professional fitting possibly lower my handicap to a 4 or 5 and would it have come up with the same clubs I'm using. I definitely believe that a beginner should get fitted. After 40 plus years of playing I know my game well enough to know what works and what doesn't.
If you got fitted properly over say 2 days it would of worked out cheaper for you to test all these clubs and just purchase the only clubs that are needed that was most suitable for your game. Ive worked out this the hard way $$$ over past yr. Ive been sooo tempted to purchase the jpx 921 forged or HMP or whatever they recomend, but holding out for a full fitting 1st to save on money
Mark's hip turn b4 the downswing is a lot better. Everyone has a different swing but the 1 thing that is constant with all golf professionals is that the hips are rotating back around b4 the downswing. If you are reading this Mark, watch this video and watch James's hips come around b4 his downswing..
How low does your handicap need to be before custom fitting makes sense? My swing is so wildly variable I can't imagine what data a fitter could sensibly use? Surely you need a stable, consistent swing with consistent tempo and path before a fitting
How tall is Mark considering he is playing ping black dot? I am playing ping black dot and I believe he is taller than me. My clubs are of the shelf equipment and not fittet for me ☹
@@JamesRobinsonGolf I knew someone would go there as it is generality. Depending on your swing (arm length, transition, where you generate our speed; arms, hips, torso, etc) for some a lighter swing weight results in a marginally faster swing speed, for others, having a slightly heavier swing weight provides the punch needed for increased ball speed. I recently made this discovery through a regripping. My irons had some pretty hefty midsize grips (Golf Pride CP2 wrap at 64 grams) and I was having trouble with my ball striking (could not feel the club head to keep it on plane; they were around C6). I went to the other side of the fence and put on WInn Dri Tac Lite at 24 grams each. My swing weight increase was too much (lost swing speed as well as hurt my 55 year old elbows), so I added 12 gram counter weights and now they are between D2 and D4, depending on the club. This is why you should get a proper fitting; right? This swing weight experiment could make a decent vid? Swing Weight Matters - Fact or Fantasy?
Love the content you put up. I still play i15 irons... I know mark had the i25s before (not sure if he ever had the i15s) but want to know if it's worth making the switch to i210. Always dubious of how much tech could possibly improve an iron really?!
Probably feel a bit nicer and lofts will be a bit stronger. Combined with higher launch you might see 1/2 a club distance gain. Otherwise a Ping's a Ping. I had i20s, then G30s. Both excellent. Now using G2s. My favourite so far...
@@keithfinley2939 Thanks Keith! Yeah the strong loft also then means I'm buying different wedges to keep the gapping, so might just wait for that illusive lottery win before I do the full overhaul. @@tjsbanks I think this is wise. I have a TS2 driver and Rogue subzero 3 wood because I believe the new tech actually helps. Otherwise, G25 hybrids (2012?) The G2s and Sm4 Vokey wedges. Can't see the point of new, absent lottery...
When I saw Mark put his bad on the ground I thought of a story. Back in the day I played nine with my buddies. When we finished we went back to the club we caddied at. They wanted to play another nine. I went to get my bag out of the trunk and a garter snake flew out of my bag in the trunk. I guess when I laid my bag down it decided it needed a home.
That’s what I want to know. He’s supposed to be “mid handicap” but he always leans toward “players” clubs. Actual mid-handicappers (10-18 handicap) hit the g710...maybe the i500...but i210 are for scratch golfers. Also, mid handicaps dont see a lot of birdie putts (though I suspect his putting is why he’s a “mid”).

Good to see Mark getting on with his fitted clubs. Interesting to see him improving on the channel too.

Love the NS Pro Tour 120S shafts in my HMB irons. Have not found a shaft that comes close to suiting my swing like these do.
Same shaft for me with MP18 MMC irons. Tried all 15 or so shafts Mizuno offered. That shaft was the obvious choice for me.
Really like that new intro.
Ref Mark’s 3 wood, the ping fitter did the same with my driver a few weeks ago.
Fitted this past season for the i500’s and Glide 3.0 wedges. Added the g410 3 wood. Like them all.
Im thinking of similar to Marks 5 wood/3 iron but with 2 iron/hybrid for same reason

I think it can help at most levels, it depends on if your wanting to work a lot on your swing or not in the coming months
Have the i210’s myself with projex x shafts....love them. Would only change for the new Taylormades or Mizuno’s which are a lot more money.
Same happened to me at ping they had a chance to sell me a three wood and hybrid but didn't because they weren't any better than my current clubs

Would you recommend shorter shafts for a shorter golfer, if a fitting isn’t an option?
Depends on how tall you are, but ideally, yes. Keep in mind though that I’m about 5”7, and I use standard length without any problems.
I’m 5’5
Then you are right in between the -.5” and -1” range. If you can manage to cut them down, you will get more control, and more consistency.
