Pete said how the Mizuno’s are overlooked but in this category I think people are sleeping on the Srixon ZX4 and ZX5 MK-II’s

100%. Just went through this process. After testing most of the big brands I tried both 4’s and 5’s. Both worked and felt great, and in the same facility, I got a clonking deal on a demo set of ZX4 MkII’s (only the 7i hit on an inside sim, so they looked brand new). Felt like I’d nicked them. Half the price of the Titleist. Even had my perfect shaft.

As someone who plays Mizunos I still agree, but however definitely try them out first. For some players the Srixon v sole grind is a game changer, but for some it just doesn't work. Either way, great clubs. Love anything japanese forged.

14 handicap and have gamed the CBX for the last year and they're amazing! We dont use bladed irons so why do we all try to use bladed wedges where when it goes wrong with a wedge it goes catastrophically wrong! Love the CBX and will probably keep using them for the foreseeable

Really liked this video and would love a mid handicap ball test as well. Everything I've been told while getting fitted for my new clubs over the past year is echoed in this video which is great and I can honestly say I do think more and more people are getting more hybrids/fairway woods instead of the longer irons because the "stigma" is slowly going away. I love my hybrid and you can do so much with a hybrid today that I don't feel I'm missing much not using a long iron.

It sounded like you were talking directly to me. I've struggled with the bag over the years, and when I started tracking data, realized that the top end was a mess. I ditched all my long irons! 6i is the longest regular iron in my bag, then have a 5 utility iron and a 4 hybrid, then 5W, 3W, and driver. What a world of difference.

Recently found your channel, after considering taking up golf. Got to say your content is great, even if you’re not that serious of a golfer.
I use to play when I was younger ever so often, until I had my clubs stolen. I bought a 8 iron and putter just for pitch putt that I use once a year if they are luckily.
Now 20 years later I seriously thinking about starting again, going to take myself to the driving range this weekend and practice that old swing before I consider investing in some clubs. Will certainly be forgiven clubs I think. Anyway keep up the great content.

    Taylormade RBZ 3 wood
    Ping G30 5 wood
    Wilson D7 4-PW
    Callaway CBX 47, 52, 58

I put together that bag for around £450, in good condition. 1 inch longer and stiff shafts too. So not just random specs thrown together.
The second hand deals you can get are brilliant. Reputable sellers like Golfbidder and GC4C offer warrantees now too, so there's not the same danger in buying second hand. A mixture of GC4C and Gumtree steals there for myself. I'm delighted with them as a mid handicap bag.

Thanks for the breakdown....I am firmly in the bottom end of the range you mention as mid handicap (tho hoping to get below this range this summer). I play the older version of that Odyssey putter before the AI came out, but exactly the same shape. I play Cleveland Zipcore wedges, but not the CG version. I have recently changed my irons to the Titleist T200's 5-GW. I only play irons up to 5 iron then have Driver, 3 and 5 wood. I do have a 3 and a 4 hybrid that I can rotate in depending on the course and whether I'll need them. Though how I've been hitting the T200 5 iron in the SIM this winter, the 4 hybrid may not get a ton of play. I played to a 12 handicap last summer and hoping that the addition of the T200 irons and some lessons over the winter will help be bring that down into the single digit range. For the record - I have 5 wood and driver in G425 Max, my 3 wood is a TM Stealth2. It's hard to make a comparison from SIM golf to the real world....but I played my first round ever under par shooting a -2 70 at a local simulator last week. High hopes for summer 2024.

Definitely like to see a ball recommendation for midcappers as you mentioned in the video. One thing to include is durability. Here in the States I love the Maxfli Tour, which does not seem to be readily available in your neck of the woods. However, its durability is not the greatest. Sand shots in particular seem to damage them more than, say, a Pro V1x...look forward to hearing what you think about balls for midcappers, if there is anything else other than the usual suspects that you'd recommend.

  • @DavesRabbitHole
    @DavesRabbitHole Месяц назад +2

As a mid handicap player that’s played hollow irons for two years now, I’m looking forward to getting rid of them and going back to a standard cavity back design. I was seduced by the extra distance in the indoor testing facility, but it didn’t take long once I got them out on the course to realise they actually made my scores worse. Distance control with them is very difficult, I have quite a consistent swing and with my old irons I knew that no matter how well I hit an iron it would only go so far. With hollow irons it seems that the distance dispersion is all over the place, and it’s not just my irons, I’ve tried different brands and the results are the same, great on mats, inconsistent on the course. So I now have to worry about going long as well as falling short. On approach shots at all the courses I play, the outcome of going long is almost always worse than being short.

I'd add Wilson DYNAPWR fairway woods and hybrids to the mix at the top of the bag. They are super forgiving, hit the balls miles and are fantastic value for money too.

Vlog about average player ball would be good. Started playing the Bridgestone e6 and find it’s a good fit for me. I.e. I don’t lose that many of them so that’s my yardstick of a good ball!😊

Good upload Pete. Could the same be done for a low hcp? At a stage of upgrading irons and considering Wilson Staff CB or Takomo and would take on board your suggestions. 🤘🏻🇦🇺

    Nice video !
You tried the Inesis 500 from decalthon, and you liked it.
Brand new, shoosing alone your size, your speed, so shaft (easier for mid handicaper) would have been around 1200 pounds the full bag. I feel that it would be a safer and better choice don't you think ? Or the inesis 900 if you prefer a combo forged/holo.
Even the Stix proposition wouldn't that bad for tath range of player

I have cbx2 wedges which I assume have been replaced by cbx4, and have to say they are really good. I tested recently a more expensive, higher level golfers wedge and really struggled actually to do what I do with the cbx2.

Yep a golf ball option would be good. We need to start a finch golf drinking Bingo card game, my first two options would be pin high and turf interaction this could be the new drinking game 2024.

Get the 3 & 4 irons out of the bag and put 5 & 7 & 9 woods in to replace them. I've done that in the past year and it's helped.

I think most 10 to 15 hcps could play Mizuno Pro 243. The sole is very forgiving and the looks and feel are some of the best this side of a blade.

Please do a review of balls for non tour players. Some one that swings around 100 mph. I have been using the titleist true feel. I love them.

I am a fairly new golfer, probably about -25 😂 BUT! I came here to say that I have been ROCKING the Driver and 3/5/7 wood combo but have got nothing but hate for it!
I hear a lot less smack when I’m getting to the green in regulation on those par5 and long 4’s while my mates are fatting and thinning their long irons 😏

Peter - how are your wrists holding up with the smaller diameter grips? Always wonder how you switch from the JumboMax to regular grips for testing. Demonstrates the skill you have I suppose... Thanks!

Driverless at the moment, but the Smoke Ai is high on my list after successfully trying out the Paradym at Christmas. Here’s a question, Pete…as a bloke in this target group, how do I go about getting correctly fitted for potentially the hardest to hit (consistently) club in the bag? Trying to get things repeatable under any condition is hard enough let alone with the added pressure of a fitter standing behind you, even if they make no adverse comments, nobody likes to feel like a plum when it spears off the face!

Pete, Loved the video. Missing from your picks for mid handicap gofers are the line of clubs designed by WISHON. Easily available in the UK and representing perhaps the best value for money. Tom Wishon is perhaps the best iron and club designer in golfing history and I think his products are just forgotten even though he is responsible for the best club designs used by all the big brands currently.
