    I've been following the low FODMAP diet for a couple of months now and here's how I've been getting on. I also went to see the Doctor today about a weird lump in my lower abdomen so here's what he said too...
    Thanks for all the support you guys have given me with my IBS and hopefully after a few more gut health updates, I'll have some better news.
    Here's a link to FODY foods, they make amazing low FODMAP foods that have been a MASSIVE help: fodyfoods.com/

    I am currently struggling with digestive issues and am still undiagnosed, but have been following the Low FODMAP diet. A coworker yesterday told me, "Oh yeah, I get a bit of IBS sometimes, so I get where you're coming from" and I wanted to scream.. I have been feeling not so great lately, been cheating with Pepsi on my diet, have felt so overwhelmed lately, and my anxiety has been not great...but watching this video today helped. You are so genuine in all of your videos - it is nice to have someone to relate to even though I don't know you. :) Thanks for making videos and sharing your story!

      Hi Ellen, thanks so much, I'm so glad you found the video useful. I hope you have had a good holiday nevertheless. I think going on holiday you have to make sure you don't worry about being out of a routine and just let your body relax x

    I have been trying super hard to be strict but still a lot of days just eating one small snack will make me feel so weak that I end up napping for almost 3 hours. On top of the pain and nausea and all that. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. It makes me so upset I get to tears and obviously the stress and sadness only makes the pain get worse. Watching you really helps a lot and reading the comments makes me feel less alone in this. Please keep up these videos and all your good work learning about this with us!

    Hi 👋 I just discovered your channel recently as I've been diagnosed with having IBS a few weeks ago. So I'm trying to take in as much information as I can and I've really been finding your food hauls really helpful. I feel like it's such a pain doing the low fodmap diet. Whenever I go food shopping I feel like I'm just bombarded with foods that I can't have. I really enjoyed this video too 👌 I think what the doctor told you about teaching your body when to go to the loo is really interesting. I found that for the past few weeks I've only been able to...💩😅 when I'm at uni~specifically when my lecture starts. It's the most inconvenient thing in the world 🤦🏽‍♀️ I get to class and that's when my body decides it's time to go to the bathroom 😭😂 I'm think I'm going to try doing what your doctor recommended. Nice to have someone on yt who's not afraid to talk about their IBS 🙌🏽 keep up the great work, hope you feel better soon 😙

      Hey! Thanks so much for your lovely message. Sorry to hear about your IBS, I can imagine it being tough at uni, it was for me too. Yeah definitely give training your body a go, set aside some time and hopefully even if it takes weeks/months it might help. I hate how the body is great at being really inconvenient!! I really hope you continue to feel better too and if I can help at all, leave me a message again :) xx

    Becky, I am experiencing the same thing! One day I can eat tomatoes and the next I can't! When you have such a limited amount of foods you can eat it gets rather annoying.Ugh. Thank you for your honesty & your videos! It is nice knowing I am not the only one struggling.

    I'm so glad to have found your videos! I have felt so alone in this, all my life! I go to university and had been living in the dorms so I haven't had the opportunity to cook for myself. I have an apartment this year and I was recently put on a low fodmap diet... I'm glad that I have a kitchen in which I can make my meals, although honestly I'm afraid it will not help any (partly because I'm not very good at cooking). I'm just glad to see that there are people like you on youtube that share their experiences.

      Hey, aw thats really kind, I hope my videos help. I just like to be honest about what's going on in my stomach!! It's good you will have an apartment this year definitely, I find it so important that I can cook for myself. I'm not the best cook either, but you don't need to be to cook simple meals that don't hurt you! Hope all goes well x

    Ive seen several of your videos now and never realised you had ibsc. I have ibsd (diarrhea). I have to take medication everyday to keep from going to the toilet every 30 minutes. Its quit debilitating when you never know when its going to hit and you better be next to the toilet. Im just starting my low fodmap this coming weekend so hopeing it gives me some relief. The medication guves me some, i average about 5 times a day to toilet but i still have all the stomach discomfort, gas, what i call bubble guts. Its helpful to see that there are others out there that suffer with you cause you can start to feel alone.

    over the past few weeks my stomach has been feeling awful and i don't know what i'm doing wrong, i've had ibs for about 4 years and i go through good and bad phases, currently i'm very irregular when i go to the toilet and when i do go the feeling is very sudden which makes me feel like i can't leave the house, i've also been getting more stomach pains too and it just makes me feel so miserable. i'm trying to drink more tea because i've heard drinking hot tea can be very good for the digestive system, the only problem is that i hate pretty much all teas! but of course i have to give it a try

      Aw so sorry to hear it hasnt been going so great, hang in there. In terms of tea... force yourself to like it... I hated tea but made myself like peppermint tea by drinking it everyday for a few weeks. It was disgusting... now I don't know what I would do without it! x

    I feel the same way about getting in more fiber but I've recently tried heathers tummy tamers fiber and I've noticed it works better and I do t feel as sick as I do with miralax. I've also started to do more exercise and yoga really helps calm me down. I think we just have to stay open minded with finding what helps us. I've also complained to my doc about the lower left side of my abdominal in pain and discomfort (I don't have a ball though)but my GI said he couldn't do anything about that and I would probably need to see a gynecologist.Even after tried to convince him that it only bothers me after I eat. So I found comfort when your doctor actually acknowledged it 😌.

    Hi Becky, I'm new to your channel and I'm loving watching all of your IBS stories and food videos. So I have A LOT of gut issues and a lot seem to be very similar to yours!! Short story... I suffer from very bad constipation where I could go only once in a month.. it got super bad! And the shooting pains are excruciating, the bloating the gas... I've got it all! I have missed out on a lot of events due to this and always stressing about it every single day (which I know doesn't help) I've been through a few naturopaths.. the doctors told me there was nothing more they could do. I'm taking a lot of product like glutamine, magnesium, enzymes etc etc to try re build my gut and calm it down. I have to use enemas on a regular basis. I can't eat gluten or dairy or alcohol or caffeine and she's also told me to stop having grains and hard meat .. as these are too hard to digest my stomach can't handle it. I'm keeping positive and doing whatever I can to try keep me calm and positive while I'm trying to find my way through this.. I am thinking about trying the low FODMAP diet but thinking also that I need to go to someone who knows what they talking about bc I'm not doing so good alone haha but I've never actually commented on anything like this before but would love to keep in contact with how we both get on!!!

      Hi Monica, thanks for the message. Sorry to hear that you suffer from lots of gut issues too. Join the club!! I feel too like I need to some how rebuild my gut, it just doesn't seem to work well. Definitely look into the low FODMAP diet but don't try it without some more advice, not because you couldn't do it alone, but because you want to do it as properly as possible!
      Definitely keep letting me know how you get on, we do seem to have very similar symptoms so would love to check in! xx

    I am a very very long term IBS sufferer. First of all, I tried the low FODMAP diet for over a year and it didn't make me feel particularly better. I then tried the SCD diet for 3 months which made me feel so different, I am slowly reintroducing normal food again and it's going well. Just thought I would pass on this little nugget of advice because cutting out all the starchy foods felt like it gave my bowels a rest for the first time in a long time.
    Secondly, I have recently seen my gastroenterologist and am on the list for a dietician with the NHS. I was on the list before I started to feel better and since I've suffered for 10 years it would be stupid not to carry on with the process and see them. I admit I'm not very hopeful about it, I'm expecting them to say "do the low FODMAP diet". But it would be nice to tell a professional about how things are going.
    I digress haha. In your video you were saying how you didn't want to go private. I recently started paying £6.99 a month to this company called Benenden. My mum suggested this to me, my dad uses it and my gran, and they have both benefited a LOT! You would not believe how much better private health care can be, some very long term issues were solved after going private. So yeah just FYI my family are not rich, but Benenden is pretty affordable. After you pay £6.99 for 6 months you'll get a free consultation in private health care (I would choose to see a gastro specialise) and then anything they choose to do to help you comes free (except for major operations). But just finding things out really gets the ball rolling, you could go back to the NHS for anything major. I live in South Wales, so this company works with a hospital near me. I don't know what the situation is like where you live, it would require some research but I'm sure if not Benenden then there would be something similar!
    I just really wish all IBS sufferers and chronic illness sufferers in general would consider this. It seems like a lot of money on the surface but it's just like a Spotify subscription, and at the end of the day it is your life, it could lead to you getting better which is priceless.
    Love your videos, it's really good to hear how other people with IBS are doing, and I'm loving all your recipes. I can't have them right now but I am archiving them for the future! 😊 xx

    • @BeckyExcell
      @BeckyExcell  7 лет назад

      Hi Laura, thanks so much for your message! I will definitely look into what you said as I know going private is definitely better. I've had private healthcare in the past for some completely random things and it definitely was worthwhile (everything moves so quickly!). You are so right though, health is so important and really £6.99 a month isn't anything when you think about health!
      Hope you keep feeling better, good luck! x

    Hello Becky, im still getting IBS pain daily, but not as bad, i used to get tmi explosive diarrhea, had a breath test, was diagnosed with small bowel bacterial overgrowth, treated with antibiotics & probiotics, has improved, im going to the loo more normal. Ive been on low fodmap, was under a dietitian, they gave me the low fodmap information, explained how to do it, at the appointment checked my weight. My appointmens stopped they said they were stopping the clinic! Just at the reintroducing stage, like you i still get pain & bloating even though ive followed the low fodmap. Im talking pain killers & Buscopan daily. Ive seen a gastroenterologist, they just say there is nothing more they can do bascially :-( ive had colonoscopy, endoscopy and breath test. I feel your fustration, ive also been thinking about going private, for second opinion xx

    • @BeckyExcell
      @BeckyExcell  7 лет назад

      Hi Kimberley, thanks for the message. I'm glad going to the loo has been better for you more recently. I'm thinking about these breath tests whether it could be worth it as well.
      God that is awful timing, you can't just leave someone midway through a dietician programme. Really sorry to hear that. Completely understand where you are coming from too as I've had both the colonoscopy and endoscopy without anything coming from it. It is such a struggle to get help! x

    • @river8698
      @river8698 7 лет назад

      Hey, just gonna sidle in here. Apparently though, my gastrointerologist said that she wouldn't diagnose anything solely based off a breath test, so I'm not sure if it's worth it. I had them done but was in the 5% of people who are inconclusive lol, but then again who knows?

  • @JennaFarmer
    @JennaFarmer 7 лет назад +1

    Hi Becky-so sorry to hear you're feeling bad this is why I am always cautious of low fodmap diet. It's thought it can help a small proportion of those with ibs but I hate how it'd become the standard. I see people cut more and more out with it and end up not feeling much better. There was a study showing those on low fodmap became depleted in gut bacteria after a short amount of time. You are right it should be done with dietician too. If you go private, I'd recommend going to see a Nutritional Therapist rather than a dietician as they will work with you rather than one diet. Really hope you find relief-only other thing that might work is I had a blogger email about a squat stool that helps you poo better-might be one for you to collaborate with? I'll get their email for you if you want it. They're very good for constipation

    • @BeckyExcell
      @BeckyExcell  7 лет назад

      Hey! Thanks yeah I'm really thinking of going private now, my appointments with the NHS just keep getting put back further and further and my gut can't wait for that!! Aw thanks that would be great, always up for anything that might help. I remember a while back after a family member of mine had an operation that they were recommended a squat stool. Never thought to get one myself really! x

      i'll message you it in the morning- they're sending me one to try and then we're going to have a chat about working together. i posted it on the fb group I run for IBD thinking i'd get laughed off but so many people told me I must try it! I am used to squating from being in china so shouldn't be too hard haha

    Hi Becky, sorry your going through these pains. it sux, never nice getting stomach cramps/pains/ shooting nerves in arms, I've also noticed this for myself and become way too sensitive about the sensation when it happens.i was going to the toilet 5 to 7 times a day just a month back before I went private and did a bunch of tests from genova who have been in the business for sometime, they testing facilities in the uk now.
    In the UK you need a clinic to book the tests for you without that you can't get anything done yourself.
    Any case i found out i had SiBO/ bacteria overgrowth in the large intestine too.. I started fodmap diet a month back, I cut everything and stuck to the green section only with oregano oil and other supplements. its hard! It sux! But my symptoms have improved in the last 2 weeks. I'm also am following vegan diet too. I also started working out too.The diet can make some people constipated from what i hear. Having fiber will probably give you stomach pain due to it being hard to digest by the small intestine, guess this depends on people or maybe the fiber.
    Best thing is to identify what you have first before assuming and assigning a diet to yourself..it took me way too long to figure this out. Going private will cost a lot depends where you go, prices of the tests can be found on genova website, generally clinics don't charge more for the tests, they charge for the sessions they do between £70-160 depending where you go. Hope that helps to decide. Im more than happy to give more info if you like.

    • @BeckyExcell

    oh and another thing! i would recommend that you try cutting out meat for a while and see if that makes a difference, nearly all the research i've done on ibs says that meat is fine and everyone can eat it but that is so not true, i haven't eaten meat (except for fish (mainly just tuna)) in well over a year now and it really did help my bowel movements A LOT :)

    Actually, I do what your doctor recommended(going to the toilet and just sit there) everyday for the past six month and it helped me a lot, my doctor didn't tell me about that but I decided one day I'm gonna do that every day and see what happens, I took a week or so for me to see it working but It has become a habit now. Also something that I have discovered with FODMAP diet is with some foods that are low FODMAP if I exceed the recommended portion size they can still cause some discomfort in my stomach, so maybe you can try on checking portion sizes on the food that you eat and see if It makes any differences. I have been of FODMAP diet for almost a year, and to me the diet literally saved me. I was miserable and in pain 9.5 out of ten days before starting FODMAP diet but now its like 1 or 2 days max out of 10 that I feel slight discomfort or pain and it happens mostly when I introduce new item in my diet and didn't agree with me or I have messed up my portions. I'm super strict on my diet, I cook everything on my own, the only things I buy are the ingredients that I cook with and that made me avoid any slip up in reading ingredients list on products and such. I'm from Tanzania so there is no many pre made Low FODMAP stuffs an the few you can find are so expensive that is why I prefer to make everything on my own, from a gluten free flour mixes for baking to sauces and plant based milk. I hope having a dietician will help you out and best of luck. Love for Tanzania.

    • @BeckyExcell
      @BeckyExcell  7 лет назад

      Oh wow that is really reassuring that sitting on the toilet like that might eventually help, fingers crossed, I'm going to keep trying! Yes I will definitely look into portion sizes as well, need to check I'm not eating too much of things. I think it is definitely safest to make all your food yourself. We do this a lot too and I just feel so much more comfortable! Thanks for your message xx

    Maybe you should try the GAPS diet. It’s a horrible diet and definitely one of the hardest, but it really does work. It’s working for me and my constant bloating is gone as well as my daily stomach cramps. I’m even off my peppermint oil pills which is a relief because I have acid reflux that causes it to burn my throat. Really the only thing that keeps me on the GAPS diet is that maybe someday I can re introduce old foods. Anyways I can relate to you and I hope you look into it!

    Hey Becky. I left a message not too long ago on one of your other videos. I had a food intolerance test done and thought it answered all of my ibs problems. It wasn't long after that I realised this was not the case. If anything, it's got worse -_- what you said about your lower left side causing you pain and the fact you have trapped wind there shocked me, as Ive had this same issue for years. I've recently requested to have a scan on my ovaries as I'm already aware I have a cyst there. Apparently ovarian cysts can cause trapped wind and pain like I'm experiencing. I'm hoping i can sort this out once and for all. Hope you're doing alright! X

      A scan doesn't always show endometriosis. So without a cyst a laparoscopy would be the best way to find out if that's the problem instead.

    My boyfriend massages my tummy too when I get cramps in my lower stomach. It does seem to make it better and when he stops I grab his hand to carry on haha.
    You're right not many people will understand, but you are sending out a great message to those like me that say 'you're not alone' and I think that's fantastic. I really enjoy watching and reading enjoy your content.
    I've recently been reading a book called The Clever Guts diet - have you read it? I'm going to try fasting as apparently this helps good bacteria in the gut grow and gives your body a chance to heal whilst not digesting. Also it talks about 💩 a lot, which weirdly I enjoyed and found interesting and you may too. Also the benefit of probiotics and the Microbes in your gut, I'm definitely going to be reading more books about the gut because it's so fascinating.
    I also went to the doctors recently too, and she wants to start from scratch she's said to introduce gluten back into my diet so I can test for celiac. I'm not going crazy but I've had a bit here and there and I've been ok, still bloating but I think that's due to me not having a routine when I eat. I too feel like I'm not going to get anywhere and have thought about going private but I guess it's a journey and there is a lot of help out there it's just being consistent and implementing what you learn.
    Gosh I could go on and on haha! Carry on and stay strong with it 😊😊😊 xx

      Haha glad I'm not the only one. Have to have a massage of the tummy every single day, it definitely helps somewhat. But the pain returns later in the day!
      I haven't heard of that book before, I will check it out, I enjoy any gut health books really. I can see how taking a little time out of food could give your stomach a break. Sometimes I have incredibly small meals or maybe just some soup to help me out.
      Let me know how you get on with the doctor. I had all the coeliac tests - endoscopy and then colonoscopy too. It was definitely not the best experience but worth having done. Fortunately I didn't have Coeliac but you never know and its important to find out for sure. Hopefully your journey goes in the right direction and you feel better too :) xx

      A hot water bottle is great too I find :) Have you tried Digestive Enzymes and probotics? I'm currently looking at Marshmallow Root in supplement form which you can also have as a tea, it helps with inflammation in the body.
      Yes you need to read it, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and they mention about FOD MAPs in the book too, and give you lots of recipe ideas.
      I'm now reading a book I picked up from the library called 'Living with Food Intolerance' by Alex Gazzola, seems like a good read I shall be finishing it off this weekend when I head to Devon for the Bank holiday.
      How do you get on with going on holiday? I'm due to go on holiday the 18th September to Cuba, Thomas Cook have said they can not cater for me on the areoplane and I get anxious anyway about travelling. How do you cope with that?
      Yes, i'll be taking lots of snacks, but I can't eat snacks for a 10 hour flight surely?? I am not good when I'm hungry, but it was the same as when I flew from Cyprus, luckily it was only 4 hours but they were rubbish on the plane and in the terminal I couldn't have any of their meals, just crisps and they had these biscuits which were gluten and milk free.
      I'm not only intolerant to gluten but also milk/lactose so it is a pain, milk is worse and almost immediate but gluten isn't immediate it kind of comes a few days after I'd say and can last up to a week, but I can tolerate a little bit. I would just HATE to be ill on the plane.
      Apparently they say because it's a 'Free Meal' there's nothing they can do and I am to bring my own food. Speechless.
      Charlotte x

      Hi Charlotte, I have tried probiotics etc before but I think I need to try some more again. I think its about finding the right one for you!
      Holidays can be tricky, especially travelling long haul when you have multiple food issues. They will never cater for more than one which is so unreasonable :( Definitely be careful on your flight though. Don't eat anything you can't, fingers crossed some of the meal might be suitable naturally anyway.
      That is very poor by the airline though. I've been researching into airlines recently and they should be able to at least provide you with GF. I would go back at them again about this. Let me know how you get on.
      I usually do end up bringing a mix of things on the flight. I remember taking some sushi onto the plane once that I got at the airport.
      I really hope you'll be ok on the plane, don't worry about it, it'll make it even worse :( Good luck! xx

    Check to see if you have SIBO. Low Fodmap helps but if you have SIBO fiber sometimes makes your symptoms worse. Do you eat oatmeal? I think there's a statistic out there that 70 percent of IBS suffers really have SIBO. I have it. Took a breath test. Now I'm feeling better being on SIBO specific diet. It's close to low fodmap but portions of food are really specific. Best of luck!

    I had ibs too. I cured myself. seemed impossible then, not anymore!
    Before beginning with the solution, get some basic stool tests done (like bacterial and a general stool test), even if your doctor says it won't be necessary. If all those test results are negative, then follow these steps:
    Take rifaximin 550 mg thrice daily for 14 days. Also, take multivitamins daily throughout the whole process (i took Centrum men multivitamin cuz it was more affordable for me). After fully completing rifaximin medication, take fluconazole 200mg (only on day 1 of starting fluconazole medication) and 100mg (for upcoming day 2, 3, 4.. and so on till day 28, i.e. for 4 weeks once daily). Remember to continue taking multivitamins daily. Also, you should stay on a low-fodmap diet throughout this process (i.e. avoid dairy, gluten, sugars, juices). After fully completing fluconazole medication, you need to buy prebiotic, probiotic, and enzyme tablets of good brands (ask someone or search on internet if you don't know any good brands). Take these for a month (their dosages will be written on their labels). That's it. This whole process that I've mentioned should be enough to almost completely heal your gut. If this doesn't help, even though it should, get some food allergy tests done. Also, get h. pylori. infection test done. Also, get tested for lactose intolerance. (optional) try taking 2 tbsp apple cider in half a glass of water everyday, 20 minutes before lunch and before dinner (do use a straw to drink it).
    Always Remember this: Irritable bowel syndrome is just a name that doctors gave to your problem cuz they don't know what's the actual problem (that's what the term "syndrome" means!!). It's just a label that they gave to your problem cuz they don't have any freakin' idea. So you don't label yourself as having ibs, it could be anything. It could sibo, sifo, low stomach acid, intestinal worms, intestinal infection, gut dysbiosis, literally Anything!! Strangely, your doctor won't usually tell you that you may have a totally different issue (like the ones that i mentioned above) cuz they don't give a fuck. they don't bother to utilise their brain to that capacity when they can just simply label your problem and save their precious time by prescribing you some shitty antispasmodics. Some ignorant doctors say it's due to anxiety, don't trust their bullshit. Throughout the process, everyday imagine or daydream what you will do after your ibs is cured. I imagined that, on the day it gets cured, it's a sunny day and i am full of joy and I'm donating bananas to poor homeless children and telling them "my ibs got cured". It's very important that you imagine or daydream of something like this. Definitely read 'The Power of your Subconscious Mind' book throughout this gut healing process. Watch episodes of 'the Office' everyday :)
    Everybody, please spread the word, to whoever you know has this problem.

    I've rarely been able to produce a bowel movement naturally in nearly 3 1/2 years. I use glycerine suppositories. If I don't go, it is so painful. Those little things are miracles. I don't worry about 'abusing' laxatives. My gastro said it is not a problem to use them daily if I have to. Just recently, I went on my own for 3 days in a row. Yay! But that hasn't lasted, I'm hopeful that it will return again though and eventually I will be able to restore almost natural function....maybe. As for the other symptoms, they continue, but are not as bad as they have been in the past. Not one day 'symptom free' in all these years. Argh. I wish I had more answers. The suppositories are cheap and you can get them at Tesco pharmacy. It could help with training, perhaps.

    Have you had any scans or a colonoscopy done? I went to the hospital in March with intense pain in my back, and that area in the left side and was diagnosed with diverticulitus. Its little pouches in your intestines that bulge out and food, fecal matter can get trapped there and cause infection. Afterwards I was also diagnosed with IBS as well!

    I'm eating low FODMap. I'm trying to follow the Monash app & fast tract diet app. It helps to follow the portion recommended bc even if you are eating law FODmap in bigger portion will effect you. Also, stress will effect even while on Low FODmap. Lately, I have been adding Sole water to my water in am & pm on empty stomach & I Really think this is helping my stomach sensitivies. I use Himalayan salt to make the sole water. In my mind, I'm thinking the salt is killing the gut bacteria.

    you may recall i have ibsd and gastroparesis so it's really a double edged sword to try to add more fiber as i am supposed to eat low residual. i wish increased fluids would do the trick for me but i just urinate more and it doesn't seem to cross over to the g.i. tract. i take senna and colace every morning - not suggesting it for you but just telling you helps me some. every other day i take miralax with some prune juice. oh joy - what fun, eh? but i do go more regularly, not everyday but more often. i know setting a time for bathroom duties seems to work for a lot of people. so far, not so much for me. i think i could read an entire novel while waiting - lol! one thing i wondered - did your doctor rule out a small hernia in your intestines? that would be my concern with a knot. i'm not a physician but would want that ruled out via xray or scan. i know some people have gotten special stools for the bathroom that give proper alignment to the colon. www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=poop+squat+stool&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=208415938549&hvpos=1t2&hvnetw=g&hvrand=6362822311641783992&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9032274&hvtargid=kwd-302337593722&ref=pd_sl_9cfwg2imgh_b_p19 wow, that's a lot of data - it's a link to the u.s. page with various types. just an idea.

    It's been almost a year now since I got very sick and ended up with similar GI complaints. It felt like everything I ate got me sick. This may come with criticism, but I find the only thing that works for me at the moment is a high fruit vegan diet with minimal fat. I have tried very many supplements and was in so much pain that attending college was an issue- nonetheless I made it through and spent the summer experimenting- that's how badly in pain I was. The GI symptoms came with other unpleasant ones such as migraines and full bodily pain. I can say truthfully that this diet is helping me decrease my pain enough so that I can go outside for several hours without major problems (as long as I bring food with me). I do still get pain but it is manageable. I was at such a loss I researched and came across Dr.Robert Morse, Dr.Sebi, fruitarians etc. tried a load of different diets including fodmaps diet, however nothing comes close to the results fruitarian vegan helps me achieve.

    i didn't really have the greatest experience with my dietician - they just gave me a bunch of leaflets full of stuff i have been told millions of times before and just told me to make sure i get the right nutrients and vitamins, then sent me on my way 🙄 they told me to write a food journal for a week prior to my appointment which i assumed they would assess to see how my diet can be adapted but they did nothing. They also discarded the idea of a FODMAP diet when i told them i was interested in trying it - do you feel like you have had any benefits at all from trying it? i have looked into the possibility of giving it a go in the past but have found that the majority of things in low FODMAP recipes are all the things i personally can't eat so it's kind of contradictory 😂 I think that ibs is such a personal condition for each and every person that i've found that the best way is just trial and error as i have struggled to stick to any other type of plans. Honestly if i could just live off peppermint tea and not have to worry about what i have to eat next then i'd be over the moon!

      @BeckyExcell  7 лет назад +1

      Hey, yeah dieticians are really hit and miss. I am waiting for a follow up appointment and am not hopeful. My first appointment they looked at my food diary and didn't help either.
      I think low FODMAP does need to be done alongside somebody really. As you said everyone is different and for instance there are lots of low FODMAP foods that I can't eat so I kinda adapt to a diet that suits me best. Trial and error, though it sucks does seem to be the only way. Although one day I can eat something, the next day I can't!! xx

    Becky I'm a bit late to this video but my story basically is in January this year when eating one day I had an intense shooting pain on my left hand side around the stomach rib / area. Then after this about a week later I came down with a fever / high blood pressure / high heart rate.
    As time went on I had funny sensations around the sternum but those have now subsided. What concerns me is for 6 weeks by bowel motion has been diarrhoea but not watery or explosive, more like a soft sludge (sorry tmi I know)
    6 weeks on I also too (what you talk about at 6:15) feel like I have this bulge on my left hand side if I run my hand flat down my left hand side, its to the left of my belly button by about 3 - 4 inches maybe.
    Did you ever get tested for this ? ie did you ever rule out crohns / IBD / diverticulitis ? Also have you lost weight ? in 4 weeks I'm down 2.5KG
    Also I don't understand, I don't get pain or necessarily needing a bowel motion after eating, but during the day I get what I can best describe as intestinal cramping.
    I'm trying to keep away from google but not having friends (well apart from 1) who have this, its hard to know whats normal or if I should be persisting to get a firmer diagnosis.
    Take care and thanks for your videos.

All the tests I've taken have made it super hard for me to even lick juices from fresh fruits I once could eat moderately an example is blueberries. I have some I. The fridge and I'm frightened to go and have a small slice from it the reaction is that damaging now. I get shaky and dried out, drinking water seems to worsen it. I'm going to ask about it my next visit. So far, I've been getting blood work done because both cells have dropped drastically and I need to bring them back up the best I can, when I can't take pills because of the sorbitol that just rocks my system to its core. I've been eating steak, thank god I can still eat some steak, and it's been helping. I was given a different doctor who was all in for trying to help me, but then he was swapped out for someone who cheerleads one of the doctors who wants to treat me as if I'm making it up. It's very frustrating. She did do one helpful thing, if she remembered, she said she'd look into the so-called miracle pill called 'Eat Anything RX' I've been wondering about it, but never dared to try it because probiotics bother me too. I'll cheer up, read a mystery and have some tea. Have a good week, and thanks for being there for all of us.

      Hi Chris, sorry to hear that you are having some nasty symptoms.. they sound similar to a lot of mine. I find the FODMAP app really good actually. It doesn't have literally everything on it, but you can scan most supermarket items. You can also search for items by typing in a general name like erm... 'red pepper' and it will help. It's definitely a good starter, but I always try to be aware myself too. Hope trying FODMAP works for you and your symptoms improve x

      Chris S try doing the AIP diet, it's an elimination diet that's supposed to heal the gut and give it time to rest and heal from gluten damage. Also, I recommend not eating any grains at all not even rice or oats. Even grains that are considered to be "gluten free" aren't actually 100% gluten free. All grains have gluten to some degree, and not all gluten is the same. :)

      Also, red meat is extremely hard to digest and causes abdominal discomfort for this reason, and can make a person feel fatigued from taking on all the energy it needs to completely digest. If you eat red meat often or may be the reason for your abdominal discomfort.

      Chris S Try the Paleo Low FODMAP or AIP diet. Low FODMAP diet still includes too much fiber from other grains and nuts that gas some people out. You might be intolerant to other grains. Drink lots of water as well to keep things moving. Fiber is very problematic for some people. There are recipes on Pinterest.

    Have you ever been tested for SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) or have you ever had a comprehensive stool analysis ? You should get these checked because there's clearly something going on that shouldn't be. Don't listen to the GP, they don't know anything. What did you find out from your colonoscopy and endoscopy ? Were they useful? I recently had some tests done privately and it turned out I have SIBO and some other stuff. Now I'm using herbal medicine to try and treat it, all this is quite expensive though as you say, but if it helps it's definitely worth it.

      I haven't been tested for SIBO or had stool analysis, I am looking into having a stool analysis done though, I've heard it could be really worthwhile. Colonoscopy and endoscopy weren't that conclusive. Endoscopy they said nothing came up and colonoscopy was inconclusive because the bloody machine broke whilst i was having it done. It was so painful though, not sure I want to have it done again.. Definitely thinking of going down the private route, haven't had much luck without it! x

      what you can consider is just getting the tests done privately and if something comes up then you can go to the NHS for treatment to save some money. if you have proof of SIBO or some pathogens then i'm sure doctors would be more helpful. Or you could demand your doctors to get you tested for SIBO. I am doing the herbal treatment now but if it doesn't work I will go speak to a gastroenterologist to see if they can prescribe antibiotics. Low Fodmap diet is not enough for more serious issues like SIBO. Good luck with everything hope you work it out! X

      the good thing with private testing is that it's easy and non-invasive. For SIBO it's a simple breath test that costs around £100-150 but I've read somewhere that NHS provide it too, but I don't know personally because I haven't tried.

      the comprehensive stool analysis cost me around £280 which is so much but it was really worth it cos it discovered a lot of stuff, it tests for pathogens, bacteria, parasites, immune function, liver and pancreas function and other stuff!

    Hi Becky. Have you heard of FMT or people who did it? It has nice results with many people (not all of them) I have already commented under your "Living with IBS" video. Just decided to ask here again since it's the last one. It's done in Britain and I'm going there soon. May be someone who is reading this comment has some experince about it ?

      I will try and find out if anyone has had experiences with it, I haven't myself - but maybe someone who follows me has. Will let you know if I do. Let me know how it goes for you too x

      There are very few clinics in the world including one in UK who do the FMT. The problem is they continue publishing good results for C.Diff infection or ulcerative colitis (see the Taymount Clinics webpage or fb page) and not for IBS. That's why it would be better if someone talks to them in person and ask. I'm from Italy and here the FMT is done only for C.Diff infection :(

    Ihi Becky my consultant said that if you are eating low fodmap and still get a problem, it warrants further investigations. Have you had a colon motility test ?

    I would like to send you an email to tell you what works for me. I'm not sure how to do that through youtube. I have been through the exact same thing you are dealing with and think I have some info that could help.

    You absolutely need to start taking a good strong Probiotic, an L-Glutamine supplement, and start drinking at least 64 oz. of water every day... you will start feeling better in a few days.
    Also, some people mistake a gluten intolerance for other things so since the Low FODM... diet isn't making you feel better than it must be something else. Try being gluten free for a month!

      Thanks Ella, I am looking into probiotics at the moment so fingers crossed il find one that helps. Definitely need to make sure I drink enough water too. I have been gluten free for 7+ years now as well. x

      Aw thats a shame, dieticians do get very mixed reviews, I never hear too much positives when it comes down to IBS.
