This film is sophistication from the plot to the music, scenaries, alongside the actors: their acting skills, caracterization, hair, makeup, manners and poise.
One of my favourit films ever
You are right on the money 💰. It was years later until we would see programs with close to those elements of sophistication, only with more angst. The series that come to mind are Lupin and The Queen's Gambit. Violence notwithstanding John Wick comes close, where relationships are deemed tantamount (Aurelio, Charon -rip, Winston)
My favourite Pierce Brosnan film. Sure he was great in bond and very funny in Mamma Mia, but his performance here was next level. So was Rene Russo!

This is a great trailer showing Pierce Brosnan range beyond James Bond. (NB this movie came out in 1999, the same year as his third entry as Bond in The World is not Enough).

If anyone does not know by now, another remake has been in development limbo at MGM since about 2018. I say if this is true, this is just Hollywood not acknowledging the presence of anything original worthy of production.

One of the last really good Hollywood movies. Soon after this, everything went downhill as movies ceased to be art and became a platform for ideological woke manipulation.
This film was a travesty. Imagine replacing STEVE MCQUEEN with the blandest Bond, and the utterly stunning Faye Dunaway with the utterly forgettable Rene Russo? Look at how dull and colourless this movie looks compared to the original.
