00:00 - Ray Tracing Mode and Xbox Series S Quality Mode
07:54 - Performance Mode
Xbox Series S in quality mode uses a dynamic resolution with the highest resolution found being 2560x1440 and the lowest resolution found being approximately 1536x864. Pixel counts at 1536x864 appear to be rare. Xbox Series S in quality mode seems to be using FSR 2.1 to reconstruct a 2560x1440 resolution when rendering below this resolution.
PS5 in raytracing mode uses a dynamic resolution with the highest resolution found being approximately 2880x1620 and the lowest resolution found being 1920x1080. PS5 appears to often render at or near 1920x1080 in raytracing mode. PS5 in raytracing mode seems to be using FSR 2.1 to reconstruct a 3200x1800 resolution.
Xbox Series X in raytracing mode uses a dynamic resolution with the highest resolution found being 3200x1800 and the lowest resolution found being 1920x1080. Xbox Series X in raytracing mode appears to render at 1920x1080 less often than PS5 does and the native rendering resolution seems to rarely reach 3200x1800. Xbox Series X in raytracing mode seems to be using FSR 2.1 to reconstruct a 3200x1800 resolution when rendering below this resolution.
Xbox Series S in performance mode uses a dynamic resolution with the highest resolution found being 1920x1080 and the lowest resolution found being 1600x900. Xbox Series S in performance mode seems to be using a form of temporal upsampling to reconstruct a 2560x1440 resolution. The temporal upsampling used in performance mode isn't as effective as FSR 2.1 used in quality mode.
PS5 in performance mode uses a dynamic resolution with the highest resolution found being 3200x1800 and the lowest resolution found being 2048x1152. PS5 in performance mode seems to be using FSR 2.1 to reconstruct a 3200x1800 resolution when rendering below this resolution.
Xbox Series X in performance mode uses a dynamic resolution with the highest resolution found being 3200x1800 and the lowest resolution found being 2048x1152. Xbox Series X in performance mode appears to render at 3200x1800 more often than PS5 does. Xbox Series X in performance mode seems to be using FSR 2.1 to reconstruct a 3200x1800 resolution when rendering below this resolution.
Ray Tracing Mode adds a form of ray traced global illumination and ray traced ambient occlusion. Ray tracing mode also has an improved form of screen space reflections.
Xbox Series S in performance mode has a reduced foliage visibility range compared to quality mode and the other two consoles. Some trees in the very far distance aren't visible on PS5 even though they are visible on the Xbox Series consoles in both modes bit.ly/3GilF1N After completing this comparison and playing the Xbox One X version, the trees in the far distance also disappeared from the Xbox Series version of the game bit.ly/3GhUnZh
The current gen versions of The Witcher 3 have some graphical improvements compared to the last gen consoles. Comparing PS5 in performance mode to PS4 Pro, PS5 has improvements to: foliage, shadows, anti-aliasing, LOD, NPC density and texture quality bit.ly/3YSjDNk
There is a bug on Xbox Series X where the foliage visibility range gets set to the setting used on Series S in performance mode bit.ly/3C0FYya To fix this, start the game on Xbox Series S and switch the graphics mode to quality mode.
Performance seems to degrade during an extended play session and performance can vary somewhat run-to-run.
The scenes tested here aren't exactly the same as previous tests of The Witcher 3.

What do you you mean by start the game on series S to the fix the bug is series x?
@@PDPOUTCAST yeah needs correction. I assume he means to say series x only in the later part
@@PDPOUTCAST the game appears to store settings in the save data, so when importing saves from another system you can inherit the wrong settings. The same thing happened with Cyberpunk 2077, so seems to be a Red Engine problem.
To be clear, while playing on XsX start w/ quality mode then switch to performance and that will fix the foliage visibly bug?
Is that what you meant to write?
Or is this bug on XsX needs a patch?
@@HelveticaBold1 I don't know what setting the Series X defaults to in a new game, but it seems to use the same for both modes. Therefore whatever the foliage setting currently is can't be changed on that console.
The Series S uses a different setting for performance and quality modes, so you can load the game on that console, change mode to set the foliage draw distance and then import the save on Series X and it will remain.
It's definitely a bug.
Thanks for all the aditional info. Only you did It. I noticed that some videos on YT channels had 2 vegetation settings on Series X. DF didn't talk about resolution beign reconstruct as you did, specially for Series S.
They don't need to say that it's being reconstruct because of course it is. Almost every games use the same technique to upscale the resolution

Una pena que el modo rendimiento en SX caiga por debajo de los 50 fps, corta bastante la experiencia durante el juego. Habrá que esperar de nuevo a otro parche para solucionarlo.
I'd be interested in seeing you analyse No More Heroes 3
Great upgrade, but there is need for more patches 😁
Great Comparison as always! ❤️👍
I think 1 to 2 patches to adress the fps isuues and it should be fixed espacially in Novigrad.
Big thanks. You are the best.
Hope to see 1-2 bigger patches in the next year to improve everything.
Otherwise it’s a really good new version.
what version is this
RT mode is borderline unplayable right now.
Its unnaceptable
@@runningbear6391 Exactly, RT in these consoles is too weak
For some reason here on Series S the game seems to stutter a lot more than in the tests
Great vid. Originally completed the game on the PS4 pro, so now completing for achievements on Series X( probably do more of the Bounty's too this time)
Unfortunately, as usual the comments are probably going to fill up with 'PC elites', talking like they all own $4000+ rigs (they don't of course), bad mouthing the console versions, when in reality their midrange setups are struggling just as much with this game.
Forget about rt mode moving the camera makes everything look jittery.
I play on PC, but I was having camera jitters too. Rather than tone down my settings I adjusted my thumb stick sensitivity. Maybe it might help in your case too? I feel like the sensitivity default is way too high. Doesn't feel smooth and I end up blasting Roach all over the damn road until I adjusted it lol
New video needed with today's patch...
RT mode is unplayable on Ps5. Input lag and low fps.
you are the only channel that delivers concise info unlike many other more famous channels
He gets straight to the point. Can’t fault it
He gets straight to the point and shows his work in the sources, while digital foundry gives us nothing more than their word
Not concise, just straight to the point. That's the difference.
NX gamer does a much better work, VG TEch can't even mention that the Series Version runs lower quality without V-sync.
This Channel bleeds from Xbox fanboyism
@@dondavid822 I know exactly why you like him. cuz he appeases your pony sensibilities.
Series x perf mode has lesser distant trees density than on one x???
Yes. CDPR needs to do more patches. They struggled with Cyberpunk and now they are on The witcher
My series X version has no such issues it seems some have this bug and others don't I would appear to be a lucky one as my draw distance is fine and very big see virtually no pop in to the horizon even better than PS5 from what I have seen on my screen and compared to PS5 same places especially in the horizon area.
@@dk06ctr I hope that's the case and it gets patched
@@santsandoval7 right man this sucks. I would have loved to skip this next gen update altogether. One x version on series x was already 60fps and was able to play from external hdd saving internal ssd space
Looks like this game needs more optimization. Even on PC its bad. Higher requirements vs the original...
So better graphics mean higher requirements? Wow!
@@ivesiketani Lets not kid around, the graphic changes are not that big
@@adk4986 You really have to push the PC settings to feel a noticeable difference, but when you do, there is.
@@jesusofdiablo On the series x theres a minimal diference, but resolution and framerate are worse
@@adk4986 That's what I would figure. CDPR tend to be poorly optimized across the board, but unlike PS5 ports to PC, their games tend to run even worse on console, whereas the PS games run worse on PC. Just can't win lol
PSA: If you play on PS5 with a VRR screen, make sure to turn on VRR for unsupported games in the PS5 menu, only then will it work.
Playing here on a Series S on 40inch 4K TV and the resolution on both modes appears almost the same. I think they did good in that department.
Yeah just not in the framerate department, seems well more optimised on ps5
Series X has superior FPS to PS5 in wilderness, reverse is true in Novigrad. All versions need more work.
@@OneLastScholar true true
Uh oh PS5 being dripping at the “Start” in RT

RT mode put the consoles to their knees, these frame rates remind me of 7th generation consoles.
Yeah exactly! There's no point in using RT mode on console, unless you stand still and appreciate the light bounce. But when the camera moves, everything fizzles and blurs, horrible fluidity, horrible input latency. An absolute mess.
Reminds me of those late gen games like farcry 3 on xbox360 and PS3.
It’s not the consoles it’s all about the devs. Look the case of Metro Exodus when you have Ray tracing and stunning visuals and you have 60 fps. CDPR struggled with cyberpunk and now they are with the Witcher. More patches to come surely.
@@santsandoval7yeah I totally agree, everyone knows these consoles are capable of delivering better results than this, unfortunately whether its the hardware or the devs, the result is the same, a poor experience for the end user. This is unfortunately a thing in development of games, the more powerful a piece of hardware the less optimisation is required, the hardware can just brute force its way through the bad code. But this is clearly just too lazy from the devs.
Where is nfs unbound fps test?
So playing on Series S can cause a bug on Series X? 😳
😂😂
Looks good on xbsx with 60fps
Except in Novigrad. This patch needed more time in the oven.

13:00 ps5 💪
Looks like the ps5 runs this game better top dog there 😊
2023 still drops to mid 20s. meh
That's ray Tracing may look good, but it definitely not running good.
I would've preferred Ray Traced Reflections, but I guess it would've been too demanding.
To me that's the least important. RTGI and RTAO are more important. The usual cube maps + SSR are is more than enough most of the time when it comes to reflection. Global Illumination on the other hand is the best Ray Tracing option to have in any game.
I see a lot of drops playing perf Mode on ps5
Me too. Running around in Novigrad is unpleasant, and the visuals don't look that great. I have the game also on PC and there is no comparison. PC kicks PS5 ass. On PC looks really sharp and the textures look crisp and very detailed, on PS5 you can spot a lot of low-resolution textures, and low NPC count in the city. It feels empty and kind of lifeless.
@@WarGamersChannelI said that ignoring tottally Novigrad 'cause I didn't reach there already...
I imagine the mess
Such a badly optimised game, drops to as low as 1080p which is really bad
The clowns of Digital Fraud didnt give all that information.

Who did notice that seriesx frames follow the series s path ?? Especially in novigrad ( look at the frames ... Same numbers on both consoles ) !
Is series x being held by series s ??
Shut the hell up about the Series X being held back by the Series S That has never been proven to be true because even I know for a fact that is not true at all just like idiots like you truly believe Xbox One and PS4 is holding back Xbox series and PS5 which is not true at all there is no proof that is true because it's not true at all It's people like you that don't bother doing no research how cross generation console development actually works So just to give you a quick summary both Xbox One PS4 Xbox series and PS5 run on the exact same x86 architecture motherboard which allows console developers to easily modify the same code instead of doing it separately which takes even longer time But that is no longer a problem It makes optimizing the same game very convenient on two different console generations
