Good for you Matt helping Courtney! I hope her business goes great! With your help she’s already WAYYYYY ahead of the beginners club! Your a very good man and friend for helping and teaching so many people! The more we do for others - the more we get back in blessings! 😇
Love watching this process! I think back to when I started, searching lots of videos and IG people to pick up good tips and tricks. And still learning!
I didnt have a printer for ages ! It doesn't matter its not that important at the start. No big deal to hand write labels when you're only getting a few sales here and there. Good luck! you'll do well. There's good profit in clothing but generally NOT great profit in books but there are always exceptions.
Since you get 250 free listings per month without a store, could she have saved some money by not paying for a store until she hits the free listings limit? I sold a lot of items without a store until I hit the limit and by then I could justify paying the monthly fee for a store 😉
It's going to be great watching your journey, Courtney! Books and clothing aren't categories I have a lot of knowledge in, so I'm keen to learn vicariously through you. Great work on putting this up and out there team 👊
Best of luck Courtney. Lighting is a big issue for getting colours right for clothing, fabric, crafts etc. Filters are your friend for books, DVDs, cds. School holidays tend to be slow & it's pretty tough this year compared to last but stick with it. It's a rollercoaster but when it works it's brilliant fun. 😂
Hi Matt, thank you for teaching us all that. I am learning lot from you. You are very knowledgeable. Congratulate Courtney for me, hope her business grows like yours.
This is all great and dandy, wish her luck. But after you square away all your lighting and photo setup, get your account up etc. now comes the actual challenge of where are you going to consistently find new inventory on a daily/weekly basis that is not only cheap enough you can profit after all the fees, but also and more overlooked gonna actually sell. Been doing this 5 years and can tell anyone watching who hasn't done this but thinking of getting into it, very few people make it to a full time level. All those thrift stores have the same idea as you, and are filled with people like you. It's ridiculously challenging to find new inventory everyday. Will be interesting to see where this goes
I think there's an overlooked point here. Courtney wants this to be a side hustle income only and has zero plans to grow it anything past that.. the eBay side hustle is absolutelyyyyyy a possibility for anyone. This coming from someone who has lived and breathed it successfully at a full-time capacity.
@@TheAussieFlipper Are thrift stores hiking prices in Australia too? I’m managing here in the states and mainly rely off yard sale season and church thrift stores but our Goodwills have cracked down in the last 2-3 years.
In my experience I’m finding no where near the amount of quality items in the second hand stores lately. More people have been running it dry as they have the same idea. It’s a lot more trendy.
@Ben Thomas There’s tons of quality re-saleable stuff out there for close to or zero dollars once you’ve done some research and told everyone what you are doing. I have friends and clients of friends dropping great vintage and contemporary stock off regularly. I’ve met up with another local reseller and we’ve begun swapping inventory to better suit our niches. Get to know your thrift store managers and the best time (for them) to go in for first refusal on newly donated goods.
Good luck Courtney!! You've got some experience in Matt that money can't buy...wish I had his advice and know how when I first started almost 20 yrs ago....
Great video on how to setup. I’ve been wondering where to get core flute - I need a bigger light box area. Who knew it was at bunnings 🙈😂 so simple haha
Courtney's space situation is similar to mine. This is the reality for a lot of people in 2023. It will be interesting to see how she can make this work.
This happens at yard sales all the time. In the States, you can have your own receipt book and fill every thing out yourself and date it. (No signature is needed from the one that sold you the item(s)). The IRS accepts this for the simple reason it would otherwise be a cash transaction that was not recorded and would contribute to the underground economy. The IRS does not require you to do line by line accounting. In other words, the total you spend at the yard sale or shop for items to resale is what is important and not the price of each item separately. Your total gross sales minus your total cost of goods minus your expenses leaves you with the all important net profit or net loss. (This is what the IRS is concerned with.) Take time to make a local phone call to a nearby tax service to get the free information that will help in this business.
Do postage satchels come with the stickers to write an address on etc? Where do you get boxes from? Or is wrapping it up in bubble wrap and putting it in a satchel alright? Depending on the item
That eProfit app is great, recently started using it, although I can’t figure out how to get it to apply £1/$1 max selling fees when they run the promo.
Thanks for the videos. As an absolute beginner it feels as though some info was skipped over. For example - what is Dpop? How to create a listing, where to find postage charges? Where to buy packaging materials for best price? Hopefully we see It in following videos. Thanks Also disappointing to see the eBay store has folded already :(
Good video can i ask when you setup as a solo trader did you need to fill in a self assessment form straight away or at the end of your 1st trading year? Thanks
Be interesting to see how the books go, i’ve dabbled and had zero traction. One Question - how are you doing the post on a computer without a printer? I thought once it’s paid for online you get a label or is there another way?
I’ve been selling on ebay for over 2 years without a store. Currently over 500 items listed. There are benefits to a store but I feel I am doing OK without the extra cost. Of course I may change my mind in the future.
@@vickya8653 yeah, im the same, im at about 150 items, and have been doing OK without a store. if i build up a bit more and im making daily sales, i may move to a store, but for the time being im happy without
Good on you Courtney. By working with Matt, you’ve had time to really consider reselling from the inside out with mentorship. I have a question about your shipping process. Yes, you have time at this stage ho hand write names and addresses but how do you add the Auspost barcode/QR code? Or any you paying for the postage at the post office then messaging the tracking details to the customer?
You could still pay online and she has integrated Ebay to Aus Post so when the label is paid for then Aus Post auto updates the tracking details to Ebay. I'm guessing she would then just handwrite the address rather than print the label?
Hello Matt, Thank you for posting these videos!! They are very helpful and as a complete beginner, I'm looking forward to seeing how far i can get with this business.
