Last time I went thru Menzies they only had diesel. I hope for your benefit they have changed that. Steve, what is the score with paying for entry to the park at Uluru. Does that come on top of your camping fee ?
Steve, pardon my ignorance but what are the flimsy cages around the petrol and diesel pumps for? I mean , just hitch one up to a tow bar and demolish it - they're just a nuisance. I remember all the great barbecue facilities at beaches and they were never vandalised, so what's with fuel pumps? Great video, stay safe 🕊
the cage is there because of the Neanderthals that make up 30% of the northern territory population, they think they have the right to break everything , the same reason we have alcohol ban register, minimum floor price, all the deodorant is behind lock and key because they sniff it, we use Opel petrol so they cant sniff it and get high, 85% of the prison population is made up of Neanderthals and 90% of all domestic violence is thanks to them and now they want a voice in parliament !

Such a bummer to have that happen, lucky for it to not have been worse or have a rear wheel lock up and throw you. BTW where did you get fuel in Menzies, everything I've seen indicates its diesel only there at Eagle Petroleum so I'll need extra containers on my trip next month that includes Menzies back to SouthernCross via the same dirt road you took out there
Thanks for the entertainment mate, always a pleasure to see a new Mongrel Dog Production. On a number of your videos now you make a point of camping away from the road and mention that the fire can't be seen from the road. Why is this, is it a security thing?
Yeah, sorta. It is quite remote out there and the only traffic after dark are normally 'the locals' transiting from one community to another. All these communities are alcohol free (banned) and if they see a fire they might think that beer is on the menu. Nobody likes surprises in the middle of the night. There is an Australian movie called Wolf Creek. I've never watched it because i reckon if i did, I would never go camping again. Glad you enjoy the Channel content.
@@mongreldogproductions "There is an Australian movie called Wolf Creek. I've never watched it because i reckon if i did, I would never go camping again" Good call. I watched it and have regretted that ever since! :). Seriously, it's nasty. I have since 4WD camped at the crater. Not solo, luckily.
@@mongreldogproductions it's a shame that's the reality of outback travel but given the circumstances makes sense. Thanks for the film mention, I vaguely recall hearing this one reviewed on local radio.
Rarely...You may find them warming themselves up on the roads after hibernation (cold blooded) but usually the noise or vibration startles them long before you reach them. I try not to think about creepy crawlies too much. A snake nearly killed me as a young soldier when patrolling thru the bush. Something I'd rather forget. Thanks for watching.
Hi Kieth, I’m currently cycle touring in South Australia (Mawson Trail). Before I left Perth it was still awaiting parts ex Germany. I expect it must be getting close to being back on the road by now. 👍
Strut reinforcement??? On the front??? The bike is up to date with all the necessary mods. I don’t usually fit too many farkles. Everything must have a practical use.
My bike (R1200GSA) has been remapped from new to use low octane fuel. Some Riders use octane boost and Chris #1 uses boost for his Ural if he cant source Hi Octane fuel. The Opal does affect fuel consumption...increases it by about 10%.
Fair question...it all has to do with the 'soft' compound they use to help the tyres 'stick' to the road or gravel surface. You can get hard compound tyres that are good for about 12,000km but you do notice the difference in handling, especially on the blacktop. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Off road knobby tyres are more aggressive and have lugs on them, instead of the weight being distributed across the tread evenly the individual lugs take a panishment therefore loose more rubber a lot faster as apposed to road based tyres
Shame about that torsion bar but knowing you from these video blogs I'm sure you'll resource something. I saw Uluru in 1985 and climbed it back then. So glad I did as these morons who run our country are closing off so many national parks such as Mount Warning National Park in northern NSW.
Mt Warning closed? That's a crime. I climbed it in the 70's as a school kid. I think they've closed the rock to climbing again now. And I've not climbed it yet!. Still hope too. It's a national treasure and should be open to ALL Australians.

Good call. I watched it and have regretted that ever since! :). Seriously, it's nasty. I have since 4WD camped at the crater. Not solo, luckily.
@@amisoftau2659 I rest my case...
😀
G'day Steve. Another rippa video, think I've seen them all. Buggar about your bikes damage. Keep on keeping on👌
@@mongreldogproductions it's a shame that's the reality of outback travel but given the circumstances makes sense. Thanks for the film mention, I vaguely recall hearing this one reviewed on local radio.
After all the footage of yours I seen, I am not sure I've seen you have to jump a serpent. Do you come across them often in your travels?
Rarely...You may find them warming themselves up on the roads after hibernation (cold blooded) but usually the noise or vibration startles them long before you reach them. I try not to think about creepy crawlies too much. A snake nearly killed me as a young soldier when patrolling thru the bush. Something I'd rather forget. Thanks for watching.
Cue the BMW bashing comments - should have taken the DR 😂
It is still my weapon of choice for covering the big Outback km...
It's not the last you have heard from me (us).
Thanks for watching.😀
Ural rule !!
How's the bike? Interested to hear what followed. ATB
Hi Kieth, I’m currently cycle touring in South Australia (Mawson Trail). Before I left Perth it was still awaiting parts ex Germany. I expect it must be getting close to being back on the road by now. 👍
Do you use the lower OEM crash bars? I see you don’t have the strut reinforcement - not needed?
Strut reinforcement??? On the front??? The bike is up to date with all the necessary mods. I don’t usually fit too many farkles. Everything must have a practical use.
Broke the back of your bike?
And alive and ok
Life is good! I live to ride another day.
Hey Chris, with the opal fuel what do you do for high octane ?
My bike (R1200GSA) has been remapped from new to use low octane fuel. Some Riders use octane boost and Chris #1 uses boost for his Ural if he cant source Hi Octane fuel. The Opal does affect fuel consumption...increases it by about 10%.
Naive question from a non-bikerider; how come the tyres are only good for 6k?
Fair question...it all has to do with the 'soft' compound they use to help the tyres 'stick' to the road or gravel surface. You can get hard compound tyres that are good for about 12,000km but you do notice the difference in handling, especially on the blacktop. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Off road knobby tyres are more aggressive and have lugs on them, instead of the weight being distributed across the tread evenly the individual lugs take a panishment therefore loose more rubber a lot faster as apposed to road based tyres
I’m just heading out the GCR in about an hour with a load of fuel 👍
My bike is still in Alice…how far are you going? Possible backload lol. Thanks for watching.
@@mongreldogproductions Yeah nah, not that far. Wish I could help. Leaving Laverton now. Good luck with the bike.
