This is awesome! I'm a 30 yr old female who is tiny and just started a heavy diesel mechanic apprenticeship in Sydney, so it's good inspiration seeing another female who knows her stuff! Both of you are legends 😁
Another retired mechanic who admires your work. Any one can work in a workshop with polished floors, but it takes a passion to work in a outback workshop.
Back in about 1984, my family were bringing two campers down from the Alice. Can't remember what happened, but we broke down at Mt Dare! Stuck there for a few hours while they fixed the issue. Glad to see the place is still going. Essential service.
Good on ya kids. It is not where you do the work but how you go about it. Looks like you do things correctly without being pretentious. They were all lucky to have you two there.

Hey Isabella. I’ve been a mechanic for 40 years on the north coast of nsw we got parts delivered twice a day ,I can only imagine your frustration having to wait for a part to finish a job. Having the passion is the only way to keep going as mechanic, well that’s what I found anyway. Good on you guys well done.
Tip for when you don't have a tom thumb pump - run a bit of hose from your fluid container into whatever you're filling/transferring to, then put you hand covering the lid of the fluid container and use compressor to blow air into it - it'll force the fluid through the hose.
Crossed the Simpson in 1995 hilux in group broke all leaf springs Rhonda and husband ran MtDare then gave us access to workshop rebuilt leaf packs form graveyard of wrecks awesome hospitality we then did Madigans line hilux gave continual problems but spares got him out of desert this channel will go off awesome❤
What a story mate! Sometimes the breakages make the best stories, and we're glad you made it across the Madigan in one piece, regardless of the continual problems 😊
Very impressive. Both your expertise and knowledge in completing repairs. Any workshop should be proud to have you both as team members. Keep up the great work.
I lived in WA Outback abou 12 years back, four hours north east of Kal. We had to make do with what was available cos spare parts was four hours away at Kal. The local tip was known as Mitre 11 cos our first port of call was the tip when in need of parts or bits and pieces. Had a Landrover with a 186 holden six cylinder on the cattle station. No spark, after examination, found it had an aftermarket contactless system on the engine which was producing no spark. Me and my mate visited the local tip. There was a Kingswood HZ with a 202 six cylinder engine, we removed the whole distributor and put it on the 186, Voila, spark and the engine started! Saved us a day driving to Kal for replacement parts and returning.
Brought back so happy memories of our several Simpson Desert crossings -Adelaide to Dalhousie and return, both in the dry and the wet, through the 80’s. Had a 1985 Troopie 11 seater brand new with all the extras, one of 10 that came out as a special edition, still got it and getting close to 200k going strong and never let me down. Too old to do those trips now at mid 80’s and just recovering from a 4th back surgery. Did all those many 4WD expeditions speed the wear and tear on me instead of Troopie? Fantastic times. Thanks for sharing your as it happens video-I know all about it and how to be prepared. Greetings from Tasmania Australia 👍😁🇦🇺🦘
Nice work folks, seems these modern vehicles a lot more complex than the old stuff I worked with on the Cape many years ago - still the same problems, but harder to fix, lol. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed it so subscribed.
This woman knows her stuff very well i use to work with her, i would rather a woman work on my vehicle than a bloke who doesn't care :) i know some very good female techs and males too :)😃
Hahaha hey Kenny I have just watched this video I’m in London just off commercial road and I live in South Australia been an engineer for over 35 years both uk and Aus originally motor trade then aerospace and I can say ya need good bush mechanics and a outside the box attitude, traveled most of Aus and would never move back to England full time!come over n try it out 🤟🍻
I'm no mechanic but I find learning what the parts look like and watching the disassembly or installation interesting... Definitely let a bush mechanic work on my car... New subscriber... Safe travels.
Seating the tyre ,use the bazooka ,but hook up the air so its flowing into the valve stem at the same time ,makes a world of difference, found ur vids again awesome
No way could I do that. I used to clean windows from a 40’ ladder but fell off the roof of my house years ago and now terrified of heights now. My wife conquers her fear of heights busy going up the top of towers and standing on glass floors up there. I go up with her but don’t go anywhere near the windows. Well done.
I’ve watched all your travels and enjoyed the can do attitude and adventurous spirit. It’s been a pleasure to be along for the ride. Thank you to you both for the entertainment along with practical lessons. Enjoy your travels. From Macca
Im well impressed with your level ,of professionalism, the right tools ,for the right job. Having been on remote properties, in QLD, its amazing how often "Bunnings" comes in handy .
Hello from across the Pacific (the West Coast of the U.S.) Just coming to your channel (from a post in the r/videos sub-Reddit), I can already tell I'm gonna be obsessed with this channel! I got a million questions I'd love to ask you both... maybe a video idea would be to do a Top Ten (or whatever number) of bits of advice you have for folks based off of your repair experiences at Mt. Dare (carrying spares of specific things, lowering your PSI, etc.)?
Nicely Done, did the Simpson in 1985 and again in 1987, no Mt Dare pub or workshop back then but was well prepared 6 MQ patrols and a short wheelbase Gruiser in 85 and 4 MQ,s in 86.
Real cool guys, when I was a truck driver on the local council, we had ex-Army guys come and test our driving for a day. They wanted me to skip gears and just use the brakes to stop, don't go back through the gears this was a tad silly to me brake drums wear out and cost a lot of money to replace. Gear boxes can handle a lot of changes. Great job you guys.
Guys can I say impressive, you are great together and what you have to share is engaging informative and entertaining. My takeaway is maintenance and not just servicing there is a large gap in this particular area currently once upon a time your mechanic was a family friend who was a custodian for your safety and your vehicles maintenance not a franchised wealth creation system owned by a trust or corporation minimising taxation. Sorry, love your work keep doing what you do
Well done to the pair of yuz. Just never know what your gunna' find when you walk into a workshop these day's. A Sheila mechanic!!!! Yeah, you could fix my car.
Great episode. Your situation reminds me of the Eagle Plains service station and hotel halfway up the Dempster Highway in Northern Canada. The beating the vehicles take and the work on tires and suspensions are probably similar. The temperatures are completely opposite though. You probably get +50C and they get -50C. Thanks for posting.

Even upstaged some of the newer bigger rigs. You guys make it possible, Thankyou.
The trick for stretched tyre is you need an air fitting that screws onto valve and have the air running when you hit it with the bazooka. Then rip fitting off and slap the valve stem in asap

No shortage of work, if you see how city slickers drive on rough roads, its just utter equipment carnage. Perfect to see lug nuts done to speck rather than a guess like 90% of places do and over tighten the buggers sometimes.
And then you can't get them off somewhere up the track 😢

What a Great Video. The day in the life of the outback workshop. Some you can fix others you can't. Tyres, Brakes, and Servicing all part of the job.
Thanks! That's exactly right, we can only give it a good go, and if we can't that's what a recovery truck is for.
