  • If you have ever wanted to try Blender but found yourself having trouble getting your first project done (Blender Guru donut or another tutorial), this tutorial is geared towards you. I did this to show the absolute baseline of Blender so that you can hopefully get your foot in the door!
Blender can feel very difficult to learn, but honestly once you get over the first initial navigation hump I find it to be easy to use and pretty intuitive.
All of the videos are loaded up, however I have not added timestamps to all of them. Feel free to check them out with the suggestion at the end of the video, but be aware they
This was an older video that I re-uploaded, and since then I stopped putting my webcam in the viewport. I know that annoyed some people so for that I do apologize. I could film it again but overall I was happy with how the tutorial came out.

I do archviz as well but we do all interiors in revit as we are also an architectural firm doing construction drawings. But I’d like to learn blender as I always hear good things so I’m excited for this series.

Something that has always made me hesitant about looking into Blender and getting away from Sketchup is I always had issues dealing with scale. Working in feet and inches, i found it hard to tell how big or small an object was when i tried modeling in Blender, I’m looking forward to this tutorial series as i feel like most of the tutorials I’ve found seem to be more for generic 3D modelers and not so much those with a background in architecture / arch viz.

This one is making a barrel in Blender, just so you know. I do think this tutorial can help a lot getting your foot in the door.
I am going to make some Sketchup to Blender tutorials as well. When we were learning Blender we actually brought everything from Sketchup and overtime we just started doing more in Blender.
I can make a quick video in the near future about scale as well! There are tricks we use to make sure things aren't all over the place. While there are different tools than sketchup I feel you can still get very accurate models!

@@LuminousLabs From a workflow standpoint I think it makes sense to do it all in Blender, I’ve imported several models over from Sketchup and Blender was able to keep most of the materials I had applied intact, but I always felt limited, and none of my experience in Rhino, Sketchup or Revit seemed to apply, Blender is just a different beast. So I started to question whether it was worth it, ideally I would like to model everything in Blender and render it there as well, but I just worry that I’d be spending too much time in this software that isn’t widely adopted by our profession and I wouldn’t be able to apply my skillset to anything.

High hopes for this tutorial series. I was thinking how good it would be to model simple shapes in sketchup (its faster but dont know how they behave when imported in blender), like walls, doors, windows, etc. for example and import it in blender, do the complicated shapes in blender and texturing and afterwards render it in blender. is that possible? I think you have tutorial about that theme in past, but was a kind of simple. I think that video was the trigger for me to subscribe to your channel. It would be great to have those kind of workflow tutorials here.

Actually there is a sketchup importer for blender! It is pretty good at keeping everything together. Here is a link to a video I made about it!
