For those who don't know, the whole thing with the missing signs pays off in the second part of this episode, when the Joker invades Wayne Manor and discovers the secret Bat-poles...but because they're not labled as usual, he never guesses that they lead to the Batcave.
Weird thing is this morning I watched the video of that very clipped called Alfred vs The Joker uploaded by a different RUclips channel. Then I get back on RUclips 12 hours later and this is the first clip it recommends
That actually happened when they were filming the series quite often. Adam West and Burt Ward talked about that, how the crew would occasionally apply a fresh coat of paint to those poles, and not tell them. Then they would slide down in their regular clothes as Bruce and Dick, and they would then discover the fresh gold paint all over their clothes. ha ha
Would have laughed if they got the poles mixed up to where you see Adam West dressed up as Robin and Burt Ward dressed up as Batman, just to show how things would fall apart without Alfred.
onisahman actually they did have one show where that was done. They also had one show where Batman went down the pole. Hit the switch. Which caused him not too be in costume.
They do have them mixed up ... watching from the rear as Bruce and Dick race to the batpoles ... Grayson slides down on the left.Watching from the front in the cave, Robin should be on the right ...he's still on the left.

Who else did he think would be using it? The message on the back wall “Access to BatCave via BatPoles” might be a little harder to explain.

Not only does Batman have a bigger pole, but the buttons in the batcave that activate a mechanism that uses steam to make the poles go up also is designed such that Bruce's button is twice the size of Dick's.
@Brad James Five-year-old me watched it in reruns in the 80s. Actually, I started reading comics after that. Batman comics. The comics were very different from the show. Why is everyone calling Robin Jason and why does he have a mother and wait, what's she doing with the Joker? Trauma intensifies.

What if, for April Fool's Day Alfred put a Batgirl suit on one of the poles automatic costume changers. When they got to the Bat cave they would have had quite a shock
The batpoles do have compressed steam elevator lifts that can take you from the bottom to the top, which Alfred used to trap the Joker when he found the poles later in this episode. I presume the batcave also has stairs connected to Alfred's service entrance.
They have to trudge a mile out to the main road, then walk back to the Wayne Manor gate and jump the fence. Bruce’s sweaters always get torn up doing that.
Even though they're ON the Batpoles, about to start work and on the verge of changing into their costumes, it's still "Bruce" until the change is made.

But that's why they did this scene in part 1 to set up that when the Joker (Cesar Romero) opened the bust of William Shakespear and turned the switch to open the bookcase in part 2, he would see the Batpoles and slide down one of them and expose both Batman/Bruce and Robin/Dick. This is one of my favorite 2 part episodes of Batman Season 2. :) The Batman movie in 1966 is the only story that shows the whole changeover from Bruce and Dick to Batman and Robin. The TV series showed them sliding down from Wayne Manor, then the cut to the opening credits, commercials and then Adam and Burt as Batman and Robin entering the Batcave on the Poles and running to the Batmobile.

Jason Tolbert I'll say this for King Tut. It's no secret that the 3rd season wasn't so great. But I really enjoyed both of the King Tut episodes in S3.
bucky468 I hear what you're saying Bucky648. But if the Joker knew too much, then the show would end. Sometimes the writers have to cheat just to keep the show going. On a side note it's funny you mention 'bad memory.' Adam West in his book said that a lot of times he didn't remember what happened because everything had such a fast pace.
Typically also, scenes are shot way out of logical (story) order, to make most efficient use of the lighting, camera locations, and sets. Thus actors might film 40 individual scenes, but the script is the only thing that ties them all together, and most actors are not in every scene. Thus their recollections of "how it all turned out", or "what happened that time______" are really spotty, esp. with the passing years. Trekkers at conventions always expected William Shatner, for example, to be an expert on the narrative of every ST episode or film he played in, but at the end of the day, he just hit his mark and said his lines from scene to scene.
