BUILDING AND RIDING THIS SICK MTB DIRT JUMP SECTION!! PLAYGROUND EP7

- Опубликовано: 11 дек 2024
- This MTB dirt jump build has been amazing so far. I can't believe we're already on episode 7 and have built so many cool features and mountain bike trails so far. In this video we're extending the line with more trail building, a huge build lapse on the new roller and right hip jump. The trick jump is amazing so this technical section afterwards looks and feels great for riding on my dirt jump bike and BMX etc. Enjoy the riding and time lapses. We're super motivated to get this line finished and invite some pro riders down for a jam, and then begin building a whole new backyard trails line!

Me to! 😂
Hi
haha me too
You have to call the new hip jump “the slice”, it’s perfect!!
A slice is when there’s spin on the ball and it curves in the air to the right, right into the bush(right-handed). And the shot tracer of a slice fits so well with the trajectory of the hip jump. It’s just perfect.
Slice is a shot that curves right, but I’m feeling calling it the dog leg… what’s your thought?
@@jmonty11b Good choice ! it could also be the Hook since Slice/Hook depends on the dexterity of the golfer (Left-handed or Right handed)
@@jmonty11b dog leg is closer to what Matt was describing, I think, but "the slice" is a bit snappier. As far as names go anyway. Also a slice is when a shot goes specifically to the right, so it's got that going for it too.
The terms are Fade and Draw to describe a slice shot
The pump track section should be named the “bump and run” or pump and run- a type of shot you play around the green
It’s mad how I found u during lockdown at episode 1 of back yard build . Now I’m a crazy enthusiast travelling around the country to ride different bike trails . I couldn’t even ride beginner trails confidently at first And now over a year or so later I’m riding hard lines around the uk. All thanks to you mate . Keep up the work Matt
Good stuff man, keep sending it!!
Exactly same goes my mate, he’s very inspirational
Same here. So inspiring lol
Best comment I’ve seen in a while, keep it up!
Shaping a shot to the right for a right handed golfer is a slice, fade, or cut. To the left is a hook, draw, or slinger. This series is the best. I loved the lock down series as well.
Im obsessed with this series just like i was with the backyard series
Bro, I found this Chanel from the backyard series and it was amazing, I don’t really watch the other videos so when this new series come out I was buzzing
Me too bro I click as soon as I see the video
Dude it's so good! I remember when I first found his backyard series. It inspired me to get out and build my own trails and now have my own channel. The guys are absolute legends and I'm so stoked they have a proper build series again.
I like how they act like it doesn't rain. Or they don't understand how puddles work.
Me too lol
Just thinking about those turfs, you could build a crazy golf course beside the jumps. You know, windmills, water features, dinosaurs etc. I just think your Playground is too bike-oriented. Seriously though, I'm loving this build series. My mountain bike days are over but the joy on your faces make for very satisfying viewing. We clearly get that one second of satisfaction after three days of work.
Matt, I think it would be sick if you made a flowy berm line of to the left of the nine iron where Jamie bailed in the last video. Some huge berms down that hill into a racer jump would be so sick and fast!
That would be really good
Sick
Can I get a shout out
That’s a superb idea
That would be sick
Love this series, amazing work
The slice
The power fade
The fade.
That's when the ball goes right
Use the sod to line the walls of the jumps. The grass will eventually take root and strengthen the jumps as well as make them blend in with the environment nicely. Jamie's rocks and the sod will make your jumps look 👌
i love watching you guys pat down the dirt from loose and soft to firm and packed down keep the work going
An Idea for the new hip would be the "flop shot" it's basically a shot that doesn't go very far but it goes really high, kinda like that hip.
Sounds good to me
This series inspired me and a buddy to go fix some jumps near us that have mostly fallen to disrepair. Love this series. Makes me want to build jumps and ride.
It actually baffles me how good Jamie is at his craft you kicked a goal having him on your team..also I love how genuinely happy Ben is watching @matt jones ride keep ‘em coming boys
This comment section is badass. So much input in 4 hours and so many cool ideas. By far the best biking channel
You could call the new jump “THE SLICE” that’s what it’s called when you curve the ball to the outside in golf. Plus it is the next jump after the loaf landing
Man copied comment above him
...and there will be a Hook when the trail goes the other way.
And the right Roller before should be called "Draw"!
or it could be called the dog leg, im personally fond of that one
Only a slice if you didn't mean to do it. Otherwise it's a fade. Or in my case and I'm not prepared to admit it was unintentional it's a power fade 😅
The progression of the playground is awesome to watch
That right hip should be called "The Slice", thats what the shot is called when the ball curves hard to the right
or the fade, slice is usually the result of when a fade goes wrong
Correct, however that’s more than a hard curve. That my friend, is a shank!
I love the idea of a big 180 berm! It could be joined by the line Jamie found last video! Love seeing how happy you are too!
Yo matt, that shot is called a slice, if the shot hooks to the left its a “hook” if its to the right its a “slice”
If you’re right handed.
@@dustinmills3135 true true
The straight cuts into the hills and the side of the rollers that you don't ride on is a good place for those grass bricks!
Those massive rollers are what makes this jumpline so sexy to look at.
A gap jump, a fast step up, and some sort of round feature (because the Playground needs a merry-go-round!) would be epic! Keep doing what you do!
A fade to right, draw to the left……I think!! Them jumps looking super dope 👍🏼
Matt, another cracking episode! Super jealous! A slice Is where the ball goes to the right, a hook is when it goes to the left.
Another golf term you could use is 'dog-leg', when the hole your playing bends left or right.
An idea for the turf bricks if there's enough, you could make them into sofa's to spectate from. Once they grass over they'd look sick!
I think you should use the terf to line the side of the dirt jumps/rollers. Then the jumps would blend in more with the surrounding glass! :) good work guys! Tim
Yea came here to say this.. the roots hold the jumps together a bit qnd also helps keep them dry.
Double agree. Would definitely help with erosion control on the steep sides of the jumps. Use sod staples to hold the sod in place until it roots.
I came to suggest this as well. I've been wondering why this hasn't been done for ages. What if a large mulch landing was sod instead of mulch also, like all sides and landing covered. That would be a fun experiment.
i think it looks cooler without the turf because blending it in would make the jumps look smaller and it looks cool how it pops
I also think it would look better if the turf blended in with the glass
Couldn't keep my eyes off of that Hellfare fit. Looks great! Excited for the pants!!!
It seems like you could use the blocks of sod that are laying around in the backs of the landings. Once it takes root it will be solid and look good
The slice (right turn) the draw (left turn)
So sick MAT!
Would looks really smart to blend in the backs and sides of the jumps with the waste turf so they all blend in / look like they’ve been cut out of the hills already there? Bit more uniform maybe?
I like that idea creative
I love how you cut in to the grass, clean around it and leave a nice crisp edge. It looks killer!
When the golf ball goes to the right it’s called a “FADE”. This place is awesome!
I thought left was fade, and right was slice?
@@jtrider3779 a fade is left and so is a slice, a slice is more out of control ant basically slices off to the right a draw is the equivalent of a fade just to the left and then a hook is equivalent to a slice but also to the right
@@gameboys1018 ahhhh gotcha. Thanks! Haven’t golfed in about a decade lol
A flowy berm would be epic dude, sick video you always have best 👍✌️👌🤙🤙🤘
There’s a shot in golf called the flop shot where it essentially goes higher than distance. Could be a sick name for a future jump
Rad. Always relaxing to kick back and watch these clips. Cheers all.
Its called a slice or a cut when you bend it right. Word of advice maybe that cambered out roller is sick but it looks a little short on the back end causing you to lose speed. Maybe dig it down after or add dirt to elongate it to keep the speed up?
You got that right, a lot of the ogs who taught me how to build trails told me that you should limit the amount of flat ground and it should be a constant curve, elongating the roller would help tremendously
a slice or cut is a mistake, fade or draw is intentional
@@huskieshobbiesuk8535 fade
@@huskieshobbiesuk8535 This is what I was thinking. Except, it depends on being left or right handed, so you can really call it one or the other “ONLY”, if that makes sense. Meaning, it’s not an either or. It can be both.
Simply beautiful dirt sculptures. 😎👌
I just can’t believe how clean you made this look. Well done! Look like pros out there
The clean track edge with the grass looks soo slick.
Bending a ball in golf is called a “fade” or a “slice”
Other cool golfing inspired names could be the
bogey
Eagle
Albatross
Out of bounds
19th hole 👌👍
water hazard
bunker/sand trap
19th hole bar lol!
Fade or slice 🤙
Sand trap
Dog leg
Double eagle etc...
Don’t forget the dog leg!
Well done guys you are building such an amazing playground,LEGENDS.
on the right hip there is a part of the hill just above the landing where you can build a landing to make it a step up.
Could easily build a fly out landing above the hip quarter. On top of the ridge the line could split into pump track back to start & another big roll in feature back down into valley . A shark fin going right launching you down the slope would build speed from the top after doing a fly out or pump back to beginning
Exactly what i‘m thinking! 👍🤘
You should call the hip “the dogleg” because in golf it means the fairway bends round
So much potential on this plot of land! I wish he had it for more than a year. Keep up the good work on the channel Matt, Ben ,Jaime, and Jono.
It is just for one year?
@@yvessutter1558 I think he made a quick mention of that in the first video. I haven't double checked to make sure.
Hey Matt, It would be sooo sick for the second line to follow the berm you mentioned at the end of the vid. After that the second line could go between the orange jump and its landing. Then straight uphil, turn to the right, down and over the new roller as a table top. Love the videos, keep up the great work!
this PLAYGROUND Matt looks SICK! can't wait till it's finished!
Hey Matt! Can you help me understand this a little better. Did I win something?
Is that correct
That's awesome! I'm so excited! How can I find out what I won?!
Matt out of the Right hip you could go straight on and build a Cannon over the drainage gulley. That would look so nice. If you need any inspiration look towards the Vanta Line at Bikepark Wales and try to remake the cannon with the quad-bike Underneath.
You created a beautiful Work of Art. Oh...and it's fun.
I honestly can't get enough of these videos I wish one day a youtuber would do a build like this and allow the general public to ride it and experience what they've got I'll pay for it Matt let me come ride 😂
A golf shot that goes right is called a 'fade'
But I would call the last jump a 'lob shot'. A short almost vertical shot used around the green.
As for the grass, you could use for walls to build an in the ground 'hang out' spot. Throw a canopy over the top and an ice chest with red bull 😉
Keep up the great work boys!
What you could do is make the massive roller also into a jump over that little mound behind it because that would give you loads of speed for more jumps. Also love the vids🔥
You guys should keep those grass bricks until the playground is finished. Then you could use them to cover up where the dirt pile was to blend it all in.
Matt got me building my own “playground” in my backyard!
His backyard lockdown trails started it for me, this is even more fuel for me to keep going
The rocks lock amazing! Will help support it too
I thought it would be amazing if you could make the playground split up in all differant lines. It would be cool with all the differant options you could choose around the feild. For example some jumps could have 2 landings next to each other so what landing you choose it would end up with a differant line.
Just on the first jump, you can do a landing strait forward and one as a corner on the right side like the last jump from this video… then with the right line a nice hipjump-line in the right valley, with the strait forward a wale-tale on the hill with a massive (maybe longer) stepdown… *dreaming*
That's a great way to describe pumping. I'd also recommend watching BMX racing to get an idea of how it's done in action to those who are curious.
New jumps!!!!!!!
Finally a guy who actually knows how to make trails proper. *I’m looking at you Tar Heel Trail Blazers letting puddles for under the ramps!*
Could call it “slice” or “the slice”. Due to the slice taken out of the hill and when you slice the ball in golf it curves off to the right.
Loving this series Matt! That last hip that you guys have just built should be called the bunker (sticking with the golf theme) because of how much you’ve dug into the ground.
I'm completely amazed at how much you guys get done every episode, and how often you upload that much. Insane dude, keep it up
‘The Slice’ makes golf and hill sense :)
The slice for the hip as a name for sure
Those rocks on the edge of that roller look mint
Hi Matt, Ben & Jamie.
Had an idea about the playground. The landing for the 9 iron should have an option to split to the left with a little left berm at the bottom of the hill which should lead into a step up with right berm or right hip that goes behind the tree, the landing for this could then lead towards the track between the trick jump and the loaf and the have a mini road gap that should then lead into another step up.
For a right handed golfer, a small bend from left to right is a “fade” and a big bend from left to right is a “slice”. A small bend from right to left is a “draw” and a big bend from right to left is a “hook” 😁 Plenty to work with!
Oh! And if you start it to the left then it bends to the right it’s a “pull” fade or slice, and if you start it to the right and it bends left to right it’s a “push” fade or slice! Pull and push also work in front of draw and hook the same way… starts left is a pull, starts right is a push.
Call that one “the Pull Slice!” 😆
Think that you should continue the jump you built in this episode going straight over the hill and into some sort of Lillie pad/ whale tail feature. Cheers boys!
Playground is looking good, drive past it every day as work near the area....have a supply of pipes as well if you need any for drainage 👍👍
We used to use the turf to pile up a shape of the landing or take off and put layers of good on top. It does not settle and decompose for us as fast or noticeable as you claim it to be. Use them for another jump
You could use the back side of the roller for part of a berm and go around the bottom of the lump. When you go around the berm your head would be right next to the grass on the hill. Not sure what's around the corner but it would be cool to follow the landscape.
For a right handed golfer, bending the ball to the right is a SLICE. Bending the ball to the left is a HOOK.
Love the track and with the grass lumps what you could do is build a red bull bar and use the grass to blend it into the hills
Needs to be called the 'Massive Slice'! Definitely my face way to drive a golf ball 😂
For the other line u could come away from the golf theme and do a playground theme. You could do the tight berm and call it the round-a-bout and make it a very fun, flowy line!
I'm jealous of the dirt you guys have to work with. That's some amazing stuff for dirt ramps
Other golf terms are, dog leg,, when the fairway turns slightly left or right, when you screw up hitting the ball it's called a hook or slice. The 19th hole is the bar in the clubhouse. Bunker is a sand trap. Series is great keep it up.
Either ‘the slice’ or ‘the power fade’ would work pretty nicely for the new jump
Absolutely love your work lads! I look forward to every episode you do whether riding or building! Best riding vids on YT. And this build just takes the cake. I found you guys at the start of lockdown along finding the love for the bike and absolutely addicted to you legendary idiots (without wanting to be a creep). Jamie's a flippin champ and you all give me a good laugh every episode. Thank you and keep up the great work. I needed this in my life. 🧡💪🏼
For the leftover grass pieces you can use them to build a second roll in for another line because they are so good for stacking and not the best for jumps.
BOW to the trail gods....holy crap! im moving to the UK NOW...LOL
Matt you definitely need to build a pump track 👌👍
This playground series has been epic.
After that last hip you could build a nice 180 banked berm and then use the tall end of the last roller to jump back across the track and straight up the slope in front of you to finish that line, use a split at the berm to start a new line
Matt, you HAVE to make golf sand traps that you’d see on a golf course and turn them into trick, awesome, steezy bowls along the way
You should have a dual slalom section,
Looks great!
You guys are stunning sculptors!
That last hip needs a step spine landing straight on, with a sharp technical line following it so your flying with speed. 👍🏻🤘🏻
I was also thinking this… this ground is sooo nice with so much potential… maybe you can build a smaler techline back to the start… with a few bumps and banked curves it should be possible to creat new speed…
Someone else they watched the whole lockdown series and now we’re onto this same over here this series Is going really well
Put the bucket and screen on the stomper to sift while you pack!
Call it the dogleg ! Like a hole that is a dogleg left or right usually have a 90ish degree bend in them
Use the left over turf squares to make a mini lip on each side of the trail, or build a fort, somewhere to chill.
You need a shark fin to the right off the wedge. All need a sand trap somewhere to double over. Keep up the good work.
The fade as you fade a golf shot to the right
the slice is a banger name for the hip
Whale tails / Bridges are an energy battery. You can use the momentum to jump up and use a level/flat surface to transport it. You could use the speed to jump up onto a wooden feature thats higher than the up hill section & create a drop in mid run thats up on top of a hill. Almost a reset mid run. 2 runs in a run. Runception
Got be called the' roll up and fade it ' the new bit 👍😁
Matt you should just fill your van up with dirt and use that to ferry it to the jumps further away. Line it with plastic. Happy digging!
This gets me thinking of what the original lockdown series trails look like today
When you hit the ball right it’s called a fade when you really hit it right it’s called a slice I like the fade!
Actual mad how much dirt your moving by hand! That last hip is insane, I think you make a step up/step down whale tail on the top side of the hip that slightly curves around the hip landing. You’ll be able to generate speed and create a new sick fast line
