    Thank you for saving the bird. Humming birds burn energy very quickly and feed almost constantly. A break without food or cooling off can be dangerous for them.

      It's that heart beat...90x per second! Joyas-Velodoras, is the name of a super fun article/poem by Brian Doyle about a hummingbird, its qualities , juxtaposed with a whale heart, and its qualities.. ...there's just a lot of magic in it.

    It's weird how they just fly away like that,
    "I still cannot understand how he could abandon me so unceremoniously, without any sort of goodbye, without looking back even once. The pain is like an axe that chops my heart." --Life Of Pi
    Well, it's like a mini axe for this case.

      ReGGgas Nice to quote a Canadian writer. I am a Canadian woman and I am the one who made this little video, and yes, this hummingbird did not say goodbye. However, I was so happy to see it coming back to live and finally flying away.

    • @animon87
      @animon87 7 лет назад +7

      ReGGgas what is actually weird is you painting it's departure so poetically. It was injured, got some rooh afzaah , got it's strength back and so flew away. It shouldn't have to smile at you or say goodbye just cuz you did what was expected out of you. Such drama! 😊

    • @Anfubvinch
      @Anfubvinch 7 лет назад +12

      Exactly. It's an animal. People should just stop trying to humanize everything. It's fantastic that the woman took care of it, but as soon as the fella is ok he's flyng out. Of course. Most animals, if not all of them don't understand notions like gratefulness and debt

    Thank you for saving the hummingbird. There are mixed reports that the red dye is bad for them so here is a recipe you can make at home. Mix 4 parts water to 1 part table sugar in a pan. For example, use 1 cup sugar to 4 cups water. ...
    Bring to a boil then remove from the heat. ...
    Cover and allow to cool before using or pouring into the storage bottle.

      I use Pinebush. It's natural organic, just like the nectar they get from the flowers. No worry, I also use the clear hummingbird nectar, but in the spring, I prefer the red one to make sure they see it. They need the sweet so much when they arrive here in Canada, from Mexico

      Marie-Marthe Gagnon They don't need the colour, at all. Most feeders have red or yellow or both colours on them, already. If yours don't, just draw some red flowers on them with a red marker or something. Please! The red food colouring causes a lot of health issues for them. I'm in northern Ontario and they've never had issues with finding my feeders with the clear sugar water. Please, no more red food colouring. Please!

I check it every morning when the temperatures are close to freezing. Never had one freeze yet. When I change it, I warm it slightly just as a treat but it cools fast. .

    Similar experience coming out of the busy post office people walking almost stepping on this tiny bewildered hummer right next to a doorway on hot asphalt....no trees or foliage even anywhere closeby! Was all concrete and asphalt! . Maybe he/she hit the post office window? Or just got exhausted with not enough to eat? Was alert just too tired I think. Just let me scoop it gently up into my hand. Problem was I had my german shepherd with me in my pickup and nothing to put the poor thing in ...so I simply held it my hand and drove one handed.the mile or so to my house. Once home I did not think to mix up sugar water ...but I knew my backyard was a wonderful place for a pooped little bird to recover in ...totally shaded by large trees with flowers and plants everywhere! As I recall the foliage was even wet from watering ...so I took the little thing to the safest most flowery side of the walled in yard and set it down (dog stayed in the house obviously) It immediately was able to fly to another area of the shrubbery. But now here is the thing like two days later we had this humming bird that was SO friendly flying many times up to our kitchen window or right up to us outside! Never had one be like that ever in all the many years we lived there ...coincidence? I have to think it was THAT little bird...And we could have made it some nectar and bought a feeder but with the hundreds of flowers in our yard I just did not see the point!
    Our hibiscus trees have no doubted hosted the rearing of hundred of baby hummers but after that they became more special to us ....I swear birds are so smart! We had another species of bird, a gnat catcher that loved our yard, We decided it was a boy bird and named him Ruben...we never fed him or anything, our yard had LOTS of insects to eat and so old Ruben did not need to go anywhere else....he love to perch on a patio chair RIGHT by my wife who would sit out for hours reading on the patio...I swear the bird intentionally made a habit of hanging out with her....if he was out there when was not, he perched somewhere else but if SHE was there he would perch on one of the chairs RIGHT next to her! Wierd huh? I am thinking she was a security force for him maybe? Because there was a nasty hawk or two that hunted our yard ...would a bird have the instinct to use a friendly larger creature for security? Its the only thing I can come up with ....that bird was with us for a few years ...I mean he would be gone for while but aways seemed to come back and his perching habits remained consistent ....finally he stopped coming around....I am afraid something happened to the wonderful friendly little bird ....but another (or other) gnat catchers would set up shop over the years ...we like to imagine whey were Ruben's children....none them were ever so friendly though to sit with my wife....I mean sure they would hunt in the yard with us out there or even perch on a chair but NOT like Ruben did while my wife sat at the same table with them...I miss that little guy! Was fascinating to watch him perched scanning the grass and see how lightening FAST he could pounce on teensy gnats and things
