Not for anything but I feel like Luigi’s mansion dark moon would come in second or third. The bosses were great, but they were so limited, the boss ghosts barely had any design of their own and focused primarily on possession. Also, king boo’s boss fight in the game felt a little too forward. I think Luigi’s mansion (the classic) would come in second due to the more diverse ghosts, unique abilities and scenery, though some of them were a bit too hard, making it less fun to fight them. Then we have on 1st place would be Luigi’s mansion 3. All the bosses fit perfectly into their respective floors, finding ways to show they’re most familiar with these areas, the ghost designs are unique and fun and get progressively harder to fit in with the progression with the game, they all had a unique gimmick making each boss fight fun and memorable. The only down side is that you don’t get the ability to re-fight them like Luigi’s mansion 3DS and Luigi’s mansion 2
When you slam ghosts down, there’s sort of a rhythm with it, when the ghost hits the ground you need to tap A to slam immediately in the same direction again.
I was gonna comment this too. It makes a very big difference. It's kind of unintuitive, most people that I see playing the game, especially when it was new, haven't figured it out.
My favorite was LM1, but only because I prefer the combat over puzzles. I just feel like there was much more combat in LM1 than in Dark Moon or LM3, which are more centered the puzzles.
Something i dont like about Luigis Mansion 3’s combat is how when you slam normal ghosts to death, they just kinda.. disappear? You dont seem to actually suck them up which i always found so satisfying in Dark Moon
Before even watching the video. I have fond memories of the 1st game. I beat it as a kid on my Gamecube then I beat it again when it was remade for the 3DS. But my favorite of the three is definitely Luigi’s Mansion 3. It really felt the most alive to me. It brought back what i loved about the original game (portrait ghosts) and raised the stakes so much higher (Mario isn’t the only one that gets captured this time) and I loved the hotel with all its different themes (Twisted suite being my favorite) Luigi’s Mansion 3 is to me, the definitive Luigi’s Mansion game.
Jezuz Christ man I cannot tell you how happy I am to finally find someone who also loves Luigis Mansion: Dark Moon the most. @@itsdidone Yeah that's actually how I played the first game originally. Maybe I'll make another video on the non-mainline Luigi's Mansion games. Thanks for watching!
After talking with my friend and deciding to compare these games I decided to look if anyone beat me to the punch and dang this video does the series great justice but at the end it was a bit one sided (rightfully so though!). Dark moon was only hated so much because of its late release and for the amount of time these people had to wait for a sequel they got a different game than they were hoping for; The game is perfect in its own right but many people were essentially looking for the 3rd game and got disappointed before they got to see it as we do. This game will be like the legend of Zelda: Wind waker and I'm glad its getting the recognition in the same way at the least. Since there were people hating at first then they get to take a second better look at its good sides, many people will finally get to enjoy this wonder of a game in the quality I swore to remember it in. Thanks for making such an open minded video!
Great video! I grew up with LM1, but love all three games. The one thing that makes me put LM1 above the rest is its unrivaled music and atmosphere. It’s the only game that makes you feel like you’re in an actual haunted mansion. The other two games have better mechanics, but the cartoony tone misses out on the truly unique vibe of the original. Although Next Level Games is a good developer, it makes me sad knowing they’ll probably never make another LM game with the same atmosphere and art style as the first
Was not a fan of the 3rd game. It felt really long and just didn’t have the same aesthetic as the first one. I personally would have liked for the dinosaur section to have more to it too. It was so small. The first is my favorite. Perfect spooky mansion vibes and music. The room with all of the musical instruments is my favorite. I should really play them all again for a true fair comparison. I’m just running off my memory. I enjoyed this video and your thoughts on the three games. Makes me look at some of them a bit differently.
I liked everything about Dark Moons the most tbh. All had cool unique designs but dark moon were my favorites, I liked the way they glowed and needed to be stunned
Let's be honest when it comes to combat Luigi's mansion 1 wins by a mile, it has the most satisfying and not spammy Combat out of the Luigi games. Every time you get a ghost it just feels right
Nice rankings. Glad there's someone out there who loves them as much as me. I would've put 3 in the top spot myself. I wonder how you would rank the remasters.
Even though iv3 only ever played 3, ive seen many playthroughs of the other two so i feel very well-versed in the series. I like how each one offers a different experience. 1 provides a geniunely dark and ethereal vibe, and you really feel the urge to escape and find mario, traversing the confines of this mysterious building with little help as you said, which is a great blind experience and i really want to play it someday. 2 offers much more variety and while you no longer feel trapped between one mansion or a drive to rescue mario... until the very end... it brought a new style of it being more wacky and comedic, which blended in so well to create this game. Now... if only E. Gadd wasn't so trigger-happy on the call button...... still love him though. And 3 is just both of the two having a baby. Youre once again confined to one building with the motiviation to rescue your friends and escape, might be a hotel, but it still is a luigis mansion game. It also has the different varities and comedic sides dark moon brought to the table, as well as the original's unique boss ghost designs, with the main ones acting like possessors from dark moon. I love this series... and i wish i was fortunare enough to play the otjer two... well.. i probably will play dark moon soon when it comes out.
1 has a good concept, and is probably the creepiest of the trilogy, 2 has the best mission structure and charm, and 3 takes the best elements of both. The thing is, most people have nostalgia for 1, other people have nostalgia for 2, but 3 isn't old enough yet for people to have nostalgia of it. I'm sure that'll change in a few years though.
Hot take but I love the Mission Format of luigis mansion 2 as it Shows you how time slowly progresses with each Mission. Stuff like the spiders going rampant before the final boss fight of gloomy manor. Or activating the water of the haunted Towers to then see it run in every Mission after it. It made me feel more like am actively progressing Story rather than 1 where you only really have to enter each room once or 3 where you only have to enter each floor once. And it makes sense to have that that time Progression as the game is meant to play in one long night where the ghosts and King Boo have to get creative to stop luigis quick advancing. 1 and 3 on the other hand are somewhat similar and are mostly just "King boo is here and causing mischief. Go through all rooms/ floors until you get too him" but in 2 you can see him several times in the distance etc, watching Luigi and probably fortifying the mansions with more and stronger ghosts
It is June, and obviously my phone is listening to me cause i havnt googled anything about this game but I've been talking about wanting to play this all week and look what pops up on my feed
Another Hot take. I liked the Atmosphere of 2 the most. The first mansion had great vibes but it was just kinda... A haunted mansion. Didnt really tell is much about the house itself or whoever lived in it (though, I gotta damit it's probably just an Illusion by King boo). Dark moon however had several buildings with strong Story and visual story telling. The flowers and trees taking over the remains of three sisters who were obsessed with plants and their own image. The literally deserted remains of a fatory left behind after a horrible accident which is no surprise considering that you literally have to walk over massive machinery to reach certain places. An icy mine, built by researchers in the deserted, frostcapped mountains only to be used by snugglers and squatters in the end. And finally, the massive castle of a culture-obsessed travelaholic who travelled the whole world and dedicated several rooms of his castle to be massive exhibitions of his findings to the point that he literally froze a room, filled another one with Sand and let a third one overgrow with exotic plants. I mean I guess that doesnt mean it has to have a good "vibe" but it surely shows great personality and thought out into each manor
Iive not played much of the original Luigi's mansion but i agree with what people say about it but personally think 3 and Dark Moon have the best control schemes, they also have ScareScraper which is super fun and made even better in 3
honestly, it's always nice to see people give Dark Moon some love. i understand it's not the original and it's ok to be disappointed by that, but i think the most important thing is that when Dark Moon tried something new, it absolutely succeeded at what it was trying instead of crumbling like Sticker Star did. for that i adore the game even though it isn't like the original, it's always nice to see.
One thing you forgot to mention is that 1 has two distinct genres of music going for it. One being the eerie sounding music that uses strings, harpsichords, pheromones, and Luigi himself and leans more atmospheric and the other being the very distinct techno themes that are used for anything E Gadd as well as when interacting with ghosts. It’s a shame they don’t use techno as much in the later games especially when they could use that one distinct bloopy instrument for comedic moments
My take is: the first has the best atmosphere, the second has the best gameplay variety and reaplayable option on an individual basis and the third possesses the best deatail and visual appeal
This is soooooo biased I can't lie but that mission system kills any mystery of the second game, and part of the puzzle was figuring out what to do next. I could accept dark moon as second but for me it's easily last.
It's just about what you want out of a Luigi's Mansion game, and although the second game did have the least mystery, it had enough of everything else I wanted for it to be my favorite. Super biased though, yeah obviously, it's the first one I played.
@@CafeCharlie You know what? Fair enough it was the last one I played and I think I am just as biased. I don’t think we can say one game is necessarily better than another because they are too different. I appreciate how they are all good in their own respects.
Yeah but the third game had few room counts so even less exploration. I never played the first game but I loved the second one and was ok with the third game. The third game just simply didn't feel like I was exploring an abandoned mansion.
dark moon has the best combat system and puzzles the combat gives you power and the puzzles are so good to the point of 100 percenting this game 3 times.
I honesty agree with the rankings because even though dark moon was also my childhood game, the mechanics, gadgets, and overall things to do make it a great game. Like collecting the boos, gems, and all 3 star rankings on levels.
I've only played the second game, but I've watched playthroughs of the first and third. 2:29 it was always weird to me that he's supposed to be banging on the picture supposedly calling for help, but has zero emotion on his face. Not even a simple grimace lol, talk about cardboard acting 5:33 I'll have you know, it's called the Dual SCREAM! 14:55 ...I'm pretty sure you meant intuitive, not UNintuitive lmao Overall great analysis. I agree that 1 had the best "spooky" atmosphere. The instrument that I can only describe as a theremin really carried the main theme.
I was trying to say 'Dual scream' but I didn't' annunciate it well. And I actually did mean Unintuitive, as in the solution isn't always easily solvable without going beyond pure intuition. But lol yeah Mario is totally emotionless in that cutscene.
LM2HD reminded me why I dropped Dark Moon. It wasn't "being on a handheld", it's the mission structure of the game, stopping me to talk to Egad every few minutes & yanking me out to the HQ whenever I finish a remedial task. They should've restructured to let you play each mansion from start to finish, retrofitting the "chapters" as checkpoints for post game clean up.
i'm looking forward to seeing the dark moon remaster next week, i hadn't heard a lot about it so it's exciting to hear that it's (subjectively) the best game of the trilogy lol
4:37 Wait really? I 100% remember buying the game here, in Spain, and seeing that it was called "Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon", maybe it's just the Mandela effect? Or not, I may be the only one who remembers this.
as someone who ragequit dark moon after the ice monster boss where aiming just feels random, luigi mansion 3 was what I wanted. i should get around to trying the original
I actually very closely agree with the final order. I love all three, but dark moon is the one I have most nostalgia for (technically played the first game first but I didn't remember it too well, only got to play it again when the 2018 3ds remake came out). Luigi's Mansion 3 I like a lot, but it felt lacking in some important areas. My favorite dark moon addition, the dark light devices felt underused and unimportant in comparison to other mechanics and the slamming mechanic in fighting ghosts just wasn't as satisfying as the actual struggle in dark moon and most of the ghosts can just be taken out in one cycle of slamming. It just felt a little too underwhelming sadly. I love 3, but dark moon is where it is truly at for me.
I would argue against you but I've literally only played Luigi's Mansion on Gamecube lol I feel weirdly old saying that is the one I grew up playing as a kid
Putting the background music together made me realize that I definitely misspoke on Luigi's Mansion 3's soundtrack. I think overall I was way too harsh on the third game. I really want to cover more Luigi's Mansion this month, what do you guys think?

The only down side is that you don’t get the ability to re-fight them like Luigi’s mansion 3DS and Luigi’s mansion 2
When you slam ghosts down, there’s sort of a rhythm with it, when the ghost hits the ground you need to tap A to slam immediately in the same direction again.
Yeah I've got to play through Luigi's Mansion 3 again, cause it's a lot better than I gave it credit for.
I was gonna comment this too. It makes a very big difference. It's kind of unintuitive, most people that I see playing the game, especially when it was new, haven't figured it out.
@@Fightersword Pretty sure e.gadd explains it in 3.
I love this series. Beat all 3 games every Halloween
My favorite was LM1, but only because I prefer the combat over puzzles. I just feel like there was much more combat in LM1 than in Dark Moon or LM3, which are more centered the puzzles.
I have all 3 on original hardware, I’m gonna marathon them!
Also great video by the way :)
Something i dont like about Luigis Mansion 3’s combat is how when you slam normal ghosts to death, they just kinda.. disappear? You dont seem to actually suck them up which i always found so satisfying in Dark Moon
ah yes that’s very true
Before even watching the video. I have fond memories of the 1st game. I beat it as a kid on my Gamecube then I beat it again when it was remade for the 3DS. But my favorite of the three is definitely Luigi’s Mansion 3. It really felt the most alive to me. It brought back what i loved about the original game (portrait ghosts) and raised the stakes so much higher (Mario isn’t the only one that gets captured this time) and I loved the hotel with all its different themes (Twisted suite being my favorite)
Luigi’s Mansion 3 is to me, the definitive Luigi’s Mansion game.
Jezuz Christ man I cannot tell you how happy I am to finally find someone who also loves Luigis Mansion: Dark Moon the most. I swear to god all my life I was the fckn only one to say that I felt like. I felt every point you mentioned so much. I also grew up with that game and it will always hold that special place is my heart. Amazing video man!
Bro same
love your videos, they feel like a mix of scott the woz and some other thing
Thanks! That is a very good description of my videos.
@@CafeCharlie np, keep it up!
dark moon has the best sound track I swear I was listening to gloomy manor's theme for weeks and it's different variants.
Awesome Video Bro! I love all of them the same.
Cool video. This really deserves more attention
oh yeah by the way you didn't mention the Luigi's Mansion 3DS remake
@@itsdidone Yeah that's actually how I played the first game originally. Maybe I'll make another video on the non-mainline Luigi's Mansion games. Thanks for watching!
@@CafeCharlie
That’s a good idea.
Thanks for watching!
I’m exited for Dark Moons remake! Played it about 9 years ago but never ended up beating it. All these years later looks like I’ll finally be able to
Great video! Although Next Level Games is a good developer, it makes me sad knowing they’ll probably never make another LM game with the same atmosphere and art style as the first
Luigis Mansion 1 is still spooky and jump scares me to this day haha
Just saw this after the dark moon remake, this was always my favourite when I got it over 10 years ago so happy it’s back
Was not a fan of the 3rd game.
I really like how all 3 games have their own quirks, both good and bad, which makes all of them fun
I liked everything about Dark Moons the most tbh. All had cool unique designs but dark moon were my favorites, I liked the way they glowed and needed to be stunned
A neat part about LM1, the regular ghosts in the game are seen in the gallary in the remake on the 3DS. With names attached.
Let's be honest when it comes to combat Luigi's mansion 1 wins by a mile, it has the most satisfying and not spammy Combat out of the Luigi games. Every time you get a ghost it just feels right
Luigi’s mansion dark moon 🌙 was my favorite game to play
Still though, you gotta admit that hotel shops from the lm3 ost goes hard
My favorite Luigi’s Mansion is 1,2,and 3, also I really can’t wait to play another new Luigi’s mansion on Nintendo Switch soon ❤😊.
I also really like and grew up on dark moon. It was such a fun game and I’m glad they’re remaking it
I love dark moon
I also LOVE dark moon as i also am heavily nostalgic for it
Nice rankings. Glad there's someone out there who loves them as much as me. I would've put 3 in the top spot myself. I wonder how you would rank the remasters.
I'm excited for the remake for dark moon to relive my favorite game ever.
I love 1 because of the creepy atmosphere and it was the 1st one which is always good
1 has a good concept, and is probably the creepiest of the trilogy, 2 has the best mission structure and charm, and 3 takes the best elements of both. The thing is, most people have nostalgia for 1, other people have nostalgia for 2, but 3 isn't old enough yet for people to have nostalgia of it. I'm sure that'll change in a few years though.
LM1=Atmosphere/Concept
LM2=Missions
LM3=Gameplay
You forgot the remaster of Luigi's Mansion for the 3DS
And luigi’s mansion 2HD
I gotta play Luigi's Mansion 3 again after I have sold it.
Same bro
I did the same with odyssey, but I dont wanna spend 40 on a game I already played a lot yk?
here we are a year later with the dark moon remake
Iive not played much of the original Luigi's mansion but i agree with what people say about it but personally think 3 and Dark Moon have the best control schemes, they also have ScareScraper which is super fun and made even better in 3
Bro must be so happy about Luigi mansion 2 HD
Eerie Staircase but also the Secret Mines Themes are both so amazing! The music in LM2 is simply unmatched.
honestly, it's always nice to see people give Dark Moon some love. i understand it's not the original and it's ok to be disappointed by that, but i think the most important thing is that when Dark Moon tried something new, it absolutely succeeded at what it was trying instead of crumbling like Sticker Star did.
for that i adore the game even though it isn't like the original, it's always nice to see.
Dark moon was goated when I first played it on my 3DS and the remaster is so nostalgic
I grew up on Luigi’s mansion 2 and love it so much it’s very challenging and fun. It’s by far my favorite and I agree with you
1st game is a certified classic. Love the ghosts, the boss battles…. Truly a masterpiece
Luigi Mansion is very Understood so is Luigi Mansion 3
Luigi’s Mansion 2 is on the Nintendo Switch now so you can play it 1080 p now
One thing you forgot to mention is that 1 has two distinct genres of music going for it.
5:36 weegee got some grandpa candy 😂
I thought it was something else💀
Why are all hating the missions… I mean it perfectly matches up with the world of Luigi‘s Mansion 2. But I‘m still welcoming a big hotel or something.
Yeah but the third game had few room counts so even less exploration. I never played the first game but I loved the second one and was ok with the third game. The third game just simply didn't feel like I was exploring an abandoned mansion.
7:13
this mission gives me PTSD
same
dark moon has the best combat system and puzzles the combat gives you power and the puzzles are so good to the point of 100 percenting this game 3 times.
0:35 gave me a pretty good laugh hahaha
I honesty agree with the rankings because even though dark moon was also my childhood game, the mechanics, gadgets, and overall things to do make it a great game. Like collecting the boos, gems, and all 3 star rankings on levels.
“Before you freak out” 14:17
I've only played the second game, but I've watched playthroughs of the first and third.
2:29 it was always weird to me that he's supposed to be banging on the picture supposedly calling for help, but has zero emotion on his face. Not even a simple grimace lol, talk about cardboard acting
5:33 I'll have you know, it's called the Dual SCREAM!
14:55 ...I'm pretty sure you meant intuitive, not UNintuitive lmao
Overall great analysis.
1st one is the best one, Im still waiting for them to re capture the magic. 3 was pretty good though.
I love ALL the luigis mansion games but after 11 years luigis mansion dark moon is my favorite game ever
Favorite game, or favorite Luigi's Mansion game? I mean your profile picture kinda says it all.
I would rank them DM, 1 then 3, I love how unique each of the 5 mansions you explore!
The first one is the best. It had the best soundtrack and the most actual horror elements. All 3 are good, but 1 is best
4:37 Wait really? I 100% remember buying the game here, in Spain, and seeing that it was called "Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon", maybe it's just the Mandela effect? Or not, I may be the only one who remembers this.
Wow, dark moon is my favorite as well, but damn he shafted 3 way to hard
1 all day long. Catching ghosts just felt so much better. Better atmosphere too.
I love Luigi's Mansion 2 the same as others IT HAS SO MUCH CHARM
as someone who ragequit dark moon after the ice monster boss where aiming just feels random, luigi mansion 3 was what I wanted. i should get around to trying the original
i used to care about whats packed into the game. i still do, but the thing i care the most. Music.
Good video!
Thank you!
Great video
