The ending cutscene of Luigi laughing at Mario while crying always hits me so hard and makes me cry. I'm even crying while typing this comment out. Luigi is so happy to see Mario alive and ok that he can't help but cry and laugh at the ridiculous way he popped out of the machine; he's just so happy. And then it hits you: Luigi is the most easily scared person in the entire Mario universe, yet he went into the mansion anyway to save his brother. Luigi loves Mario so much that he would do the thing he loathes doing the most just to save him.
For me ITS my favorite Game, i Love doctor igitt Just because He is so nice Not Like in luigis mansion 3, and the boses are Just amazing and the Love for Them are Just lovely and i Just really Love the game.
While you do have some good points, I actually like how you fight "Bowser" as the final boss. This was Luigi's very first time in the spotlight, and having him face off against Bowser proves he's just as capable as his big bro... Bowser is THE big baddie of the Mario games. Mario fights against him constantly, and at this point, Bowser is probably terrifying to Luigi. He's a giant turtle monster that can breathe fire and is a direct threat to his brother Mario, who Luigi looks up to. And it kinda sets up King Boo's character if you think about it... King Boo himself isn't strong or powerful, he relies on tricks and powerful magical jewels in order to actually be a threat, and without those he's just a big boo. The boos just run away, hide, and play tricks instead of facing Luigi directly. In a sense, they're more scared of Luigi with the poltergust then he is one them, so it makes sense why King Boo would be reluctant to try and fight Luigi _without_ a big bowser suit. The boss is definitely janky though. You're 100% right about that.
Also, consider the music which plays while fighting Bowser. Marios Bowser fights never got such an intimidating theme. They clearly were trying to push Bowser as a huge threat in this game and ending with the image of Bowser decapicated is...well, it's something else.~
@@StevenJones851 The final boss is very terrifying, mainly when Bowser's head pops out. Sure, there's no blood because it's just a Bowser suit rather then the real Bowser (and because Kirby is the only Nintendo franchise who can have the final bosses bleeding). But because it was never explained that in the game, I'm pretty sure the final boss scared a lot of kids who played Luigi's Mansion
This game and GameCube was my childhood!!! I the boss ghosts freaked me out as a kid , the music and atmosphere is perfect. This game made Luigi into my favorite character.
I thought bowser being the final boss was sick. The body horror of fighting a possessed version of your worst enemy was sick. And trying to suck up king boo while his floating head is shooting at you was tense as well. And I love how Luigi just pops off over the crown at the end, it always makes me laugh. Banger game frfr
Played this game when I was younger. My brother and I lived Luigi’s mansion, this game brings back so many amazing memories and nostalgia. Being 21 now I nearly forgot this game existed. I remember my brother and I ran through this game so many times man. These were the days
Peace be upon you Marionmikester and happy Start of May :). Something I found beautifully poetic is that Luigi, the brother known for jumping higher than Jumpman himself, doesn’t jump once in Luigi’s Mansion! And while I know we’ll never get a Luigi’s Mansion as spooky as the first one (I mean I’m older now and dark rooms don’t scare me…much), it would be nice to get Luigi’s Mansion 4 soon. After all, it’s been almost 4 years since Luigi Mansion 3 came out. :]
I thought he didn’t jump for a similar reason Captain Toad doesn’t in his games because the Poltergust weighs him down. Although it is impressive that he’s still able to jump at all when he gets frightened with how heavy the Poltergust probably is.
I can only imagine how epic Christmas 2001 with a new GameCube, this game, Smash Melee and Wave Race Blue Storm would be! Then Christmas 2002 with Super Mario Sunshine and Metroid Prime, then Christmas 2003 Wind Waker and Mario Kart Double Dash
I do have one serious nitpick with this first game; that being I don't really like the game structure when it comes to the portrait ghosts. Not saying they're bad, but most of them don't serve a purpose, gameplay-wise, other than just existing. I much prefer when specific and differently designed enemies have their own big, climatic fights. Whereas here there's like 4 or 5 portrait ghosts that have actual boss battles, not including King Boo.
In the mid 90s Nintendo wanted to make a game where you explore the many rooms of a giant dollhouse In other words Nintendo wanted to make resident evil. Take resident evil, ghostbusters and throw them all in a blender, you get luigis mansion. Not that its a bad thing, luigis mansion is a great game and other people have borrowed Nintendo's ideas countless times in the past.
I disagree the final boss is janky but it is sick. Love how it shows how far Luigi has come and that he is as good as Mario by him being able to take on Mario’s archenemy.
15:57 Tbf, This is this was a launch title for the Gamecube and Bowser is the villain of the Main franchise. Plus this is the first time we see Bowser with the graphics at the time.
The ghosts and especially the portrait ghosts looked scary when I was a child, the baby in the first area gave me nightmares. Despite it's length, it is arguably still the best game in the LM series (although 3 was so much fun)
Hell yeah, It was amazing, not just cause of nostalgia, but cause of the gameplay and atmosphere, it would oddly enough make me feel scared as a kid, even nowadays it does "kinda" and i am glad it became sort of a series and we got two games
Truth be told, Luigis Mansion for the gamecube is my favourite game literally of all time, I'm so glad I discovered it and played through it so many times during my childhood. Even now when I'm about to start my last year of college, it still has a special place in my heart.
Though I like Dark Moon (and played it before the original), I think it's a shame that their idea of "bigger and better" came with such a linear structure and no free-roam mode to compliment that. The mansions are very well designed and a blast to explore, but I would've still preferred they either leaned towards survival horror or that the whole game took place in a big mansion with varried rooms/environments. I also think it's a shame they didn't port Luigi's movement and animations from Dark Moon to the 3DS remaster, as playing it after Dark Moon feels weird due to how weightless Luigis looks and feels.
I absolutely love this game. I grew up at the perfect time for the GameCube to be my first console. I was too young to be good at this game but I used to sit and watch my dad beat it. That was something he did a lot in my childhood.
Nice analysis. I did not like this game when i first played it, but with time i ended up seeing its value and charm. Please make a Dark Moon video, my favourite of the trilogy :D
it would have been cool if in that ending scene where Mario tuns back to normal, he turns into paper mario by mistake and it segues into a paper Mario game
I've learned more from this video than any explain video. I have obsessively looked for the GameCube game for over 6+ years a kid and play the hell out of the 3DS version. Never noticed the orchestra slowing at low health for example.
In terms of your issue with the boss fight, remember King Boo is a ghost and the reason for him having a Bowser suit. There is a theory he is actually dead Bowser as the previous game prior to Luigi's Mansion was Paper Mario in which Bowser likely died. You can look it up for details, it's pretty fun.
Luigi's Mansion is my favorite game of all-time. So many memories spending hours on it as a kid. Love the video! Keep up the awesome work on the channel!
The dark blacks on a CRT back in the day caused this game to be drastically dark at times and when you play in a pitch black room, it causes the blacks to only be lighted a bit by the pixels next to them that gave the ghosts that glowing look when you where younger.
When I revisited this as a man, without the gravitas of expecting a Mario 64 sequel, I enjoyed it much more. Glad to see the green brother getting some love!
I really loved the dark creepy atmosphere Of Luigis Mansion 1. I didnt like 2 all that much due to it losing that factor and its linearity. Then we got 3 which while didnt bring back the atmosphere of 1 brought it's own charm to the table and nailed the gameplay , but I still would like to see Luigis Mansion bring back that creep factor again someday.
Um is Luigi's Mansion really "creepy?" Unless you're like 5 this ain't really creepy, Resident Evil is creepy and there's no way I would even want to play that, I HATE horror, Luigi's Mansion is just silly cartoony fun.
THIS is without a doubt MY FAVORITE GAME OF ALL TIME I ABSOLUTELY LOVE The atmosphere and unique characters such as the Portrait Ghosts and it left an undeniable impact on me.The Sequels while enjoyable dont reach the height of this gem I wished there was a GameCube sequel that builds upon the original game but overall the game that got me into GameCube 10/10 game
so nobody's going to talk about how scary luigi looks whenever he's scared? I found luigi himself scarier than the ghosts. Atmosphere also gives it a great horror vibe.
Luigi's Mansion is an arcade-based gameplay loop with a campaign mode embedded into it. The graphics are due to it being the very first GameCube game, where the developers experimented with the GX API (including the scrapped 3D anaglyph feature, hence why Luigi's Mansion "just fit" on the 3DS, it's entire level design contributes to this feature), so of course it looks good. The replayability is inherited from the arcade-based gameplay loop: no matter how many times you "beat the campaign", the gameplay loop is not tied to the campaign, therefore it never gets "old", thus making the game keep being fun despite beating it so many times.
I personally have a small problem with the music of this game. Specifically, the whistling tune that plays in cleared rooms. There is WAY too much back and forth in this game to just completely take out the music in MASSIVE chunks of the main path.
I actually enjoyed this game more than SMS because, even though I enjoy Mario's platformers, the unique setting, mechanics, and even the plot itself endeared me to the game (probably helped that I grew up on the Ghostbusters franchise). While LM3 is the best game in the franchise, LM1 is definitely not a game to sleep on, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone who wants to experience the GameCube and what it has to offer.
I think Luigi’s Mansion was the launch title because they were having tons of issues with Mario Sunshine, which turned out to be a pretty sloppy final product.
very very underrated Game...so Good, so Atmospheric... while the other LM games work more like an 'Adventure' this feels more like Survival.. NGC was great for main line character, this and Thousands years Door, Metroid prime, Pikmin were more serious approach, even Twilight princess and F-Zero...Characters had more of Real world problems an felt like they were really alive and not just an avatar of yourself riding along. This somehow changed after the NGC and somehow ended on the Mario Galaxy 1 ( can feel the shift from SMG1 to SMG2 ) , where they make the characters more 'hollow' so anyone can 'stick and play'..
Great video 👍! But I disagree on the final boss i think its really sick, how u vacuum the spike balls, aim at bowsers head, try to kill king boo while bowsers soulless head is blowing ice on u, It’s just rly nice and makes the the whole atmosphere very unsettling and tense even more than the main game, and shows Luigi is just as capable as Mario and u say bowser is Mario arch nemesis but there have been countless times both the bros fought against bowser Like the rpg games or the new super Mario bros series, maybe before this ig that makes sense but still, also one more thing the final fight is a bit weird sometimes like when u try to get a spikey ball but u can’t be too close to it or u think u hit him but u didn’t hit it at the exact frame, and yeah it probably would’ve been better if king boo was himself during the fight like u said, but other than that I thought it was a really cool final boss fight
I loved this game as a kid. Dark Moon and Luigi's Mansion 3 are fine, but I dont like them as much because their mansions dont feel too real. I mean, Luigi's Mansion 3 has a floor with an entire ocean on it lol. The main thing that made the Gamecube game great to me was how the mansion felt like a real place
Honestly I'd be so down for a Luigi's mansion Pokemon go esc phone game at this point just for fun (collect ghosts daily and get rare painting ghosts for mission completion)
Someone gave me this game for my 11th birthday. After my parents made sure i sent a thank you card, I immediately made them take me to the mall where I traded it for Rogue Squadron 2. Completely worth it.
Fun fact: This isen't Luigi's game, it was actual Luigi's Hammer Toss in 1990 (Don't worry, it's an obscure Game & Watch title. So not a lot of people know about it)
You have to shoot bowser in the mouth when he breathes fire or sucks you in. You can’t try to hit his legs. That’s why you thought it was going through him.
Honestly, Right now i'm having a dilemma because i was thinking about buying the switch with my savings, but i don't know what games to buy ( i was thinking about buying the new luigi's mansion 3 for the switch among them) or keep buying old games foe the 3ds I still gave. I don't know if the switch is still worth buying because it's been more than 6 years since its release and i don't know when the new console will come (but i was thinking about buying pokemon shield, violet, mario 3d world/ with bowser's fury and the new luigi's mansion) but i'm not sure about it. Do you think the new console will come sooner or later given the complaints about power proceding data??
Each of the trilogy brings something to the table that is just satisfying. I can't say I enjoy one more than the other. I love all of them for different reasons but I will say the atmosphere and replay value is unmatched in the first game. They actually tried to make it scary and creepy. Unless your being walkthrough dork I doubt going in blind you'll find all the gems or enough gold coins dollars ECT to get a A or S rank
It's a good game but the problem is it's the main launch title, you play this on day 1, on day 2 you bought a new console and have nothing to play on it.
Let me just say thank you for this Video. Luigi's Mansion is by far one of the most interesting games Nintendo has ever made and it was nothing more of a Joy to listen to your criticisms and enjoyments of Luigi's Mansion. Is it a perfect game? No, But it is an incredible experience made for all to enjoy. And while I am at it, Thanks for the 3D land video, no one ever acknowledges it but it's another underrated gem.
I agree with you 100%, the final boss isn’t the best. It’s not terrible, just kinda meh. But at least both your video (amongst the rest of your content) and the game are pretty awesome.👍
Some constructive criticism: 1) You may want to work on expanding your vocabulary with which to describe games and game mechanics. Simply saying that something is "amazing" or that you "absolutely love" it only goes so far. I happen to agree with you as a longtime fan of the game, but if I didn't have prior knowledge of the game I'm not sure your video would have convinced me of anything other than YOU like it a lot. 2) Try to find something to say about the game, whether it's about the history or the mechanics or even something subjective, that hasn't already been said. Your opinion aligns with what the general public widely already feels about the game-- and that isn't a bad thing (you don't have to change your opinion just to be a contrarian), but, as is, your video doesn't add much to the proverbial conversation. 3) Play around with structure, format, editing, etc. You don't need to copy the generic "video game retrospective" format we've all seen a thousand times. It is a tired, stale, uninspired genre. But you can make it interesting if you find your voice. Find more creative ways to share it. Find better ways to articulate it. I admire your passion for games and think you could have a great channel with a bit of work. Try experimenting more. Listen to different types of analyses, maybe look outside of video games entirely for inspiration. Also please understand that all of this feedback comes from a place of positivity and wanting to see you crush it. I have a dry, didactic writing style which may come off as negative. Not my intention. Best of luck!

So not a lot of people know about it)
Pls make a video like this for Luigi’s mansion 2 and 3 btw this video was great❤
Same. Dark Moon is my favorite one
You have to shoot bowser in the mouth when he breathes fire or sucks you in. You can’t try to hit his legs. That’s why you thought it was going through him.
Mario's Mansion now replaces Toad with Toadette.
Has anyone noticed that the main music theme for Luigi's Mansion are a variation on the Super Mario theme?
i love this game!
great video! ❤
You have to be one of my favorite youtubers. Great videos!
Do you think the new console will come sooner or later given the complaints about power proceding data??
yes.
there, saved you 20 minutes
Favorite childhood game for sure
Could you share your video setup for this recording? Quality looks amazing!
The soundtrack I still hum to this day 🤣
This is like asking if water is in the ocean
Each of the trilogy brings something to the table that is just satisfying. I can't say I enjoy one more than the other. I love all of them for different reasons but I will say the atmosphere and replay value is unmatched in the first game. They actually tried to make it scary and creepy. Unless your being walkthrough dork I doubt going in blind you'll find all the gems or enough gold coins dollars ECT to get a A or S rank
Even if Luigi's Mansion is not good but rather more than good amazing falls into the good category
Short answer: yes.
“YYAAAAAAAAAAAAHH” - Luigi, 2001
It's a good game but the problem is it's the main launch title, you play this on day 1, on day 2 you bought a new console and have nothing to play on it.
keep up with the hard work
This must by one of your favorites you said just 1 problem
we need luigi’s mansion 4
Some constructive criticism:
1) You may want to work on expanding your vocabulary with which to describe games and game mechanics.
Best Luigis Mansion ever.
This game came out when I was born but did not get a chance to play it. Got a chance to play the sequel dark moon though.

great video , this is my favorite game ever made
What a video 1 of the best videos I have seen about luigis mansion 10/10
“Was Luigi’s first time taking center stage as the protagonist of a game”
*cough cough*
Mario’s missing and Luigi’s hammer toss…
*First time starring in a game people actually like.
