Hey! Wasn't entirely happy with this video a few weeks ago and decided to tackle Odyssey again to try and do it justice, as I felt this video didn't. Here's the think to the BETTER version of this video: ruclips.net/video/7NYDQMbE_YU/видео.html
This game made me want to become a game designer, and I'm pursuing my dreams to hopefully work at nintendo on mario games one day. Absolute masterpiece even to this day. It's like a magical feeling every time I play it
12:59 on my first play through of Odyssey, when I got to the castle, I remember thinking "wouldn't it be funny if I went to the wing cap stage like in Mario 64" and then immediately looked up, and when it gave me a star for that I literally laughed out loud because it was such a nice touch to include I thought.
Im truly fascinated of how much effort did the company take for this game. Indeed, mario odyssey was supposed to SAVE the whole franchise, and eventually Nintendo too, that's probably why they cared so much in making the game groundbreaking
ummmm nintendo and mario were never dieing before odyysey came out and if any game helped nintendo it was breath of the wild i mean i love oddysey but it was a small game compared to breath of the wild in terms of popularity and lasting effects in the world of gaming.
16:02 I just now remembered that there was a time when my little brother was so awestruck and mesmerized by the ending of this game that he actually began crying.
This game gives me Sonic Unleashed vibes with the whole "globe trotting adventure" thing. And as someone whose favourite game ever is Sonic Unleashed, you can understand how much fun I have exploring this game
This game perfect. The nostalgia callbacks, level design, challenges, amazing music, and the true final level all culminates into masterpiece of a game.
16:13 That moment when you realize Bowser's size is canonically inconsistent... throughout the game Bowser's huge, and even during the part where you play as him Peach is small enough in comparison to ride on his shoulder. But meanwhile in the final cutscene he's suddenly only a little bigger than Mario.
People doesn't understand how important this game and Breath of the Wild were for Nintendo. After the Wii U failure this two games made the Switch launchement successful.
Your channel is a hidden gem man, btw mario odyssey is just magic, i literally cried when i heard fossil falls song in cascade kingdom for the first time, cause i knew right there i was going to play a masterpiece
Oh man this game is one of my favorite games ever made. I will admit it took me a little bit of time for this game to grow on me, but once it did I thought of this as treasure in the form of a video game. The only reason it took time for this game to grow on me is because I was a little overwhelmed by the throwbacks and yet again all the new and original stuff that I never expected to find in a Mario game and that took me a bit of time to process. That’s all. It’s like how when you get new shoes it sometimes takes a little time for you to break them in. By the way many moves when you talk about games with the most movement (which as of now this game is the one with the most movement by far) I will admit the 3D Mario games that came out between 64 and Odyssey have no moves to sneeze at. Super Mario Sunshine for example got rid of the long jump but it did have a spin jump so for that reason I’d say Mario has the same number of movements in that game for that reason not including the movements he can do with FLUDD. And Galaxy returns the long jump but instead of a dive he does the spin. He can also jump and spin in that game even though that’s no spin jump. Now 3D Land and 3D World I’m very disappointed with their lack of movements and the requirement of pressing a run button despite having a circle pad or control stick that can do more than the D-Pad. The run button in earlier games was to accommodated the fact that the D-Pad has no analogue feature. But this game. Now this game is just the value of a Ruby or a Diamond in the form of a video game. This game will go down in history as great art in the form of a video game.
Aesthetically, the game is definitely a celebration of the whole series, but I was disappointed by the lack of platforming compared to the 2D games or 3D World. A defense often used is "This is a successor to 64 and Sunshine," but I seem to recall those games having a lot more platforming than this game, and with a lot more challenge.
A lot of the platforming parts are for additional moons in sub sections of kingdoms I agree there’s not as much as 64 but I still love the game 😊 Also I think a lot of people use the cap jump as a substitute for traditional platforming but I think it is beyond my capabilities 😂
@@ropowo Also at least those platforming designs in Odyssey aren't nearly as obnoxious or repetitive as the ones in 64 & Sunshine where one slip up, than it's back all the way up or losing alot of health or lives.
Started this last week. I’m blown away I went in a little skeptical whether a Mario game could suck me in like super Mario n64 did when I was a little kid now being 29 I wasn’t sure. But wow! I’m blown away it truly is an amazing work of art and I’m only just past the sand desert level 😂 my wife literally has to rip the switch out my hands otherwise I’d never leave the sofa. Amazing video too btw
I had this game a while ago, beat it just once and never went back for post game stuff, then sold it. I regret it, I think I’m going to buy it again and just enjoy it at my own pace and go into the post game
I just love how this game celebrates and rewards great movement and exploration. Like the massive pile of coins in the sand kingdom temple above the ring. Its those little things.
Galaxy 1 & 2 are my two favorite games ever. The thing is, every 3D Mario except that thing on the Gamecube is in my top 15 favorite games ever. 3D Land even - I had a freaking blast playing that game. I simply don't enjoy most other games aside from Zelda as much as the rarely released 3D Mario title, and for good reason - they're masterpieces. Aside from that aforementioned Gamecube title.
Ground pound jump was in NSMBU, 3D Land, and 3D World. And roll was also in both 3D Land and World as well. But whatever I guess. Juat pointing that out.
ground pound jump was not in nsmbu, 3d land or 3d world, roll was in 3d world but you couldnt continue it like in mario odyssey. but whatever i guess, just pointing that out
Now, about Mayor Pauline in "New Donk City", she was voiced by Kate Higgins during the Festival portion of the stage where she actually sings the Theme song of the game.
this game literally make me cry. in the festival level i just remember growing up as a poor kid in the 90's, and that time what i wish more was play the new super mario game, the super mario world.
There’s a reference to every Mario game in odyssey Super Mario bros: 2d sections Super Mario world: yoshi being a capture Super Mario 64: entire mushroom kingdom Super Mario sunshine: seaside kingdom plus sunshine outfit Super Mario galaxy: moon kingdom Super Mario 3d world: obstacles in levels (flipping platforms in luncheon)
Great video! I actually haven't really played Mario since SM64. I recently got a CRT and decided to play it again, and got an itch. Finally bought a Switch and SMO and I've been really enjoying the game. So much more to do than in SM64.
I just bought this game today!! I was very late to the switch party and recently bought one for myself. I always loved playing Mario games growing up but it's been so many years since I played. Looks like I picked the right Mario game for switch to play first!
I’ve been a Mario fan since 1989 and have played well over 30 of the games in the series and I can comfortably say that Odyssey is the best work Nintendo has done with the series.
October 27 2017 I was at the launch of the game at nyc I met Reggie I had a great time and I got the game on launch that was the only time I fully played through it not having anything spoiled and just watching the dragon and bowser battle go it was just magic and I knew odyssey was a weird game but in the best way
Super Mario Odyssey isn't a real breath of fresh air for the franchise. It's simply an evolution of the sandbox formula established in 64 and Sunshine.
I was so hyped for this game but ultimately, I didn't like it all that much. Collectathon Mario's just aren't for me. I much prefer Galaxy and 3d World.
It's an decently good game and I respect your viewpoint but this title just has too much fluff to be truly amazing. Some core elements are cool but it's in the middle of the pack.
It's the best open sandbox/collecthon at this point. Beating the crap out of 64 & Sunshine. But as core 3D Mario game? Not quite. I think the Galaxy games & even 3D World are better IMO.
this game suuuuucks im sorry. i got to the dreadfully boring desert world and lost interest. theres so many moons i just dont care. there isnt any satisfaction in collecting them. it tries way too hard to be open world cuz ppl complained about the amazing galaxy 1 & 2 due to those games "being too linear hur duuur duuur!" The boring open worlds (that are inferior to 64 & sunshine btw) wouldnt be as bad if THE GAME WAS NOT SO DARN FREAKING EASY. Mario, in this game, is OVERPOWERED. the game completely lacks difficulty since mario can just absorb any enemy with cappy. like, how ppl like this game i dont understand.
Same here. I find it boring as hell. Lame music, bad level design, no challenge at all, even the cap transformation thing is lame and grossly overused.

0:19 genius of the game but also bc there hasnt been another mario game release😂
The thing that still makes odyssey inferior is the lack of punching and kicking
64 movement > odyssey movement ON GOD not being able to wallkick out of a long jump is such an L :/
Loved the channel, new sub!
The „sixth“ 3D Mario? I think you forgot either Galaxy 2 or 3DLand

Roll was in 3d land and world
The worst part about this game was the ending.
Peach looked beyond ungrateful at the end and almost abandoned Mario

I like Odyssey alot but honestly prefer 3D World + Bowsers Fury. I think the Moon collecting got repetitive to me.
If Odyssey had the wall jump power from 64, it would be the definitive Mario game.
