These are kind of reworked blues and folk classics but it’s the melody choices and lyrics that are really impressive. Wonder how many of these are works in progress that took years and how much of it was like a creative burst? Having written music most of my adult life sometimes it evolves slowly and sometimes you can’t get the ideas out of your head fast enough. He clearly has a deep library of songs to draw elements from so he’s keeping the riffs and chords simple so the message can be the center of attention. Just awesome stuff!
It’s pretty clear to see he’s cookin these up quick, but like most prolific folks, he doesn’t concern himself with something sounding too close to something else. Reminds me a bit of Loudon Wainwright III, but all you need to hear is his Boeing whistle blower tune to see that his creative fire is burning BRIGHT right now and he can’t miss.
ABSOLUTE PURE TALENT JESSE HAS…. BORN WITH IT SOUNDS….. GOD BLESS HIM AND PLEASE NEVER STOP WRITING AND SHARING YOUR GENIUS WITH US!! MUCH ENJOYMENT YOU BRING AND I STILL HEAR SOME JOHN PRINE SOMETIMES…. THANK YOU FOR MAKING ME SMILE…..
A depression song that's actually about depression, not about overcoming, being brave or how true love will fix it, which it won't. A rare gem. Thank you.
As someone who's "always been a little bit sad around the edges", i love this and i love how much fun he has singing it... makes for a nice juxtaposition
Please bring out an album brother!!!! You'r raw acoustic stuff is up there with Nelson and Dylan. Its fresh, genuine and hits the nail on the head. Love from Liverpool❤✊
Real talk, if you put out a vinyl album, it's going right next to my Guthrie, Pete Seeger and Jerry Jeff Walker albums. Also, I think I'm going to have to write a song about hoofing my recording accoutrements up a mountain to get clicks haha. I think you're from the south as well and if I had to record in a field of poke sallet, I'd be absolutely drenched in sweat this time of year, haha.
I believe he's the best lyricist I've ever seen. Good lyricist are able to put three or so great lines seroundded by filler but hes songs are all great lines with absolutely no filler
The guitar throw is an inner validation of having to live through that horrid shit but still finding the strength to chug along like the Norfolk and Western 611 Train.
Hey brother, speaking as someone who's been to that brink and back, even losing some good souls to that black void, I bet you it can get better. You got all the tools you need to fix it, they are right there in your heart. Revel in your own talent, know you're worth it. Don't sweat the melancholy, it just means you still got some soul left in ya. All the good ones keep a tinge of blue around those edges. Great song, always glad to hear something worth feeling.
I didn’t have as much fun learning the lyrics to a song since they came with the vinyl back then. Thank you for writing them down for us. Got the first verse and the chorus down. 😊❤🎉
You are so talented. This song is amazing. Please don’t stop what you’re doing. I’ve been spreading your link around to anyone and everyone who will listen! You are a once in a generation talent.
Love you Jesse, keep em coming. You put all our unconscious thoughts into simple songs, and help us realize we're not alone, we're all on this sinking ship together!
Just found you randomly ❤❤❤ brilliant! Listening at a country pub on my own in Uk with bad signal. What a find! Looks like Jim Morrison sings and writes like himself ❤ thank you for sharing
Great song. Tough topic. Anybody who says they're uncomfortable with the topic might be depressed themselves. Thanks for talking (singing) about such an important topic.
Damn do I love the facial expressions he makes while he plays! I can’t believe I am getting to watch this level of phrase turning, song writing and picking unfold right now right here. Just blowing my mind again and again.
Gives me Muswell Hillbilly album vibes. Keep singing from the heart man, I feel it! You got something special, something real this world's missing. Inspiring!
Listening to this I like to imagine June Carter and Jeff and Tim Buckley sitting surrounded by lilacs and sage in heaven rocking back and tapping their feet and sighing in joy and relief and satisfaction and delight to listen to you from above. Strum long my dude you're worth listening to ❤❤❤❤❤
Fuck em kid.. Keep your head on a swivel, but you are doing what you are supposed to be doing. Raise some hell, cause some trouble, stir up some shit. Thats how legends are made. You get it and I see it. Just stay safe.
This is amazing dude! I thought this was a cover of something and was going to look up how to play it, but I can't find anything so I deduce that this is an original song? Holy shit man, you're from another time and place.
Nice song! I see some poke weed in that background? It’s helpful for arthritis when it’s young. That red color is arsenic compounds. My granny told me it helped her sore hands, and she showed me how to cook it. Science article years later confirmed the plant was medicinal and nutritional…granny was smarter than I thought.
So impressive how you have developed your creativity and insights over the many years! From "Life Like mine" to "War isn't Murder", you keep sharing your gift of poetic observation! 👏👏👏
Well, your picking certainly seems to just better all the time, but it's the pure musicality of your songs that keeps me here. Also, a cloudburst doesn't last all day...
Why is no one talking about the line "I was so broken that I went to get fixed, the veterinarian was nice but my doctor was pissed" That is GOLD!
🐈
Yes, but it can mean two things… He got meds that are animal approved, and/or an animal. Lol.
@@8dreamersfarm or he's "fixed" i.e. he got his balls snipped like a dog's by the vet😂
I don't think that he s talking about an actual veterinarian.. 😅.. I think it s just a nickname for some other kind of "doctor"
@@j.477I thought he did mean an actual veterinarian and it was a ketamine joke lol
I’m completely convinced Jesse can’t make a bad song. Every song is so uniquely catchy and touching. I love Jesse Welles
His old rock band was pretty meh but ever since he started doin all this solo country stuff he has been absolutely on fire with his writing
Check out his old stuff….you aren’t wrong, it’s just amazing to hear him do it in a totally different style

Feeding the guitar to the plants so they'll get stronger. What a visionary.
i love his hybrid picking so much
This guy reminds me that America is still not dead.
😂 Yeah right. America is finished.
Aw that little toss and smile at the end just made me so happy. This boy is such a treasure
Throwing the guitar at the end is a lovely cherry on top
Knew somethin was up when he didn’t have his guitar strap on….
Love the sound of that old Stella! Play’n it loose!
His walk ups and walk downs all done without looking or thinking. He’s probably writing the next song in his head, while playing this one. Genius.
A depression song that's actually about depression, not about overcoming, being brave or how true love will fix it, which it won't.
A rare gem. Thank you.
Quit being a fucking baby
Depression has never sounded so good.
So hard to come by such authentic, well written music like this these days.
Guitar toss at the end, along with the excited look on his face says, "hell yeah, nailed this damn good song on the first take. I fuggin rock!"
As someone who's "always been a little bit sad around the edges", i love this and i love how much fun he has singing it... makes for a nice juxtaposition
Does he have fun? That's a hard smile if ever I've seen it. That's a smile that's tough to keep up
A lot of times, depression is a perfectly natural and understandable response to certain things...
Every new song is my new favorite Jesse but this one hits extra hard. I also work an industrial slicing machine 🫣 usually high.
Welles' never dry! Pumping out great lyrics by the day
Please bring out an album brother!!!! You'r raw acoustic stuff is up there with Nelson and Dylan. Its fresh, genuine and hits the nail on the head. Love from Liverpool❤✊

@@glitt3rpukeThank you, it’s literary merit!
😄
@@kevinbrook6361 Depre SSI on. Selective seretonin inhibitors. Don't think it's gonna end soon.
My lord, the picking, the twang, the tune, the reality of the sound. It's what's missing in modern music.
As a sufferer of depression I claim this my new theme song. I really like your music. Thank you for sharing
That’s a jaunty little tune. What a star you are.
Man I don't know what I want more - for you to go on big stage or keep playing in the woods. Stay true!
I'd just like to meet him and give him a big hug for thanks
I love a RUclipsr who actually just records themselves playing and singing, instead of singing to a studio track and pretending. Thanks Jesse. 👍👍
Gotta love the manic guitar chuck and the end.😅 with a smile of course. Talk about poetry in motion
that was exactly my thought. beautiful

“I’ve always been a little bit sad around the edges It ain’t nuthin to fix and it ain’t contagious” hits so hard
I love this song ❤
This song's timing is perfect. This has been weighing on my mind all day today
This guy got stuck in the pipe when they were pumping out musicians in the seventies. He just just dislodged it would appear!❤
Fr he reminds me of Gordon litefoot
Wow another amazing tune keep it coming man you are a legend already.
The guitar toss is an exclamation point to how my day has gone. It was uterly perfect!
I believe he's the best lyricist I've ever seen. Good lyricist are able to put three or so great lines seroundded by filler but hes songs are all great lines with absolutely no filler
“Perfectly good guitar”. 😂 (John Hiatt)
Perfect!
Nice to hear an old soul that isn't old 👍
These tunes have been getting me through a tough time, and inspiring me to continue writing my own. You're absolutely killing it.
The guitar throw is an inner validation of having to live through that horrid shit but still finding the strength to chug along like the Norfolk and Western 611 Train.
He flew here from another planet to try and warn us of our troubles
Fleeting moments of mania, produce levity, and help me forget how depressed I am.
Throwing the guitar at the end was visceral and boy do I get it

I want to buy an album from you. You’ve got nothing but bangers.
I have the biggest crush on him 😂 love his little smiles while he plays
The hero we all need
But never deserved.

Casuals will miss the genius. I'm sort of speechless yet quietly amused

Mornin', Guitar throw was unexpected lol
When music relights that flame of hope. Thanks for helping wash away some of my jaded-ness Jessie!
Keep on keepin' on, brother. Don't slow your roll, just rock on.
Tapped so fast
This one needs to go on spotify so I can bop to it at work. Keep going, Jesse!
Love you Jesse, keep em coming. You put all our unconscious thoughts into simple songs, and help us realize we're not alone, we're all on this sinking ship together!
That veterinarian line is CRAZY 😅
This man is amazingly talented
It's done. You've got a Spanish fan's club. Thanks so much for your songs Jesse.
I don’t normally listen to this kind of music… but I liked this… no, I loved this
i noticed that all of your songs are so creative and original. Man this is good music. what keeps you from recording in a studio
Just found you randomly ❤❤❤ brilliant! Listening at a country pub on my own in Uk with bad signal. What a find! Looks like Jim Morrison sings and writes like himself ❤ thank you for sharing
You can tell when someone is singing for joy over when they're singing for $.
Great song. Tough topic. Anybody who says they're uncomfortable with the topic might be depressed themselves. Thanks for talking (singing) about such an important topic.
I've been a huge fan of Jesse Welles's music since this morning when I've heard it the first time, glad to have the opportunity.
Your style, your text, your you always make me pay attention. Thx for sharing this Jesse.
This groove would feel so at home on Workingman's Dead. This is such a damn good song.
Dude you’re an amazing songwriter
folks wont realise how blessed we are to have a guy like you picking around until its too late.
love 🖤
I'm right there with ya on this un man!!! Superior lyrics......and I really dig that old style pick'n brother. Another excellent h.c. tune man!! ron

I remember the last one a guy said how repetitive your stuff is. Proved him wrong with this one.
Fuck em kid.. Keep your head on a swivel, but you are doing what you are supposed to be doing. Raise some hell, cause some trouble, stir up some shit. Thats how legends are made. You get it and I see it. Just stay safe.
Best yet. I want to wander about in greenery and stumble upon a Jesse Welles concert. That, will be placed on my bucket list for sure.

some good old country blues! thank you brother.
Thank you for your work.
My man came through again.
Let me play bass in a track man ✊✊✊
I adore this song. This and Boot Straps are by far my favourites, I have been listening on loop on spotify recently. Love you man, keep it up.
One of my favorites! Dude... how are you singing straight to my soul again, and again, and again....
They're songs for the times, and they definitely speak to this tragically screwed up generation of ours. The guy's a gem to be sure.
That's some mighty fine pickin', Son.
Music for my ears. Keep it real like you are. Cheers
Well, your picking certainly seems to just better all the time, but it's the pure musicality of your songs that keeps me here. Also, a cloudburst doesn't last all day...
Heard some mississipi delta blues in this one. And so much more. Belgium hears you!
“I went and got fixed
The veterinarian was nice
But my doctor was pissed”
thats crazy dude lol
That's right. It don't. But you don't have to not be depressed, to still see beauty and love some small aspect of something that only you know.
