These are kind of reworked blues and folk classics but it’s the melody choices and lyrics that are really impressive. Wonder how many of these are works in progress that took years and how much of it was like a creative burst? Having written music most of my adult life sometimes it evolves slowly and sometimes you can’t get the ideas out of your head fast enough. He clearly has a deep library of songs to draw elements from so he’s keeping the riffs and chords simple so the message can be the center of attention. Just awesome stuff!
It’s pretty clear to see he’s cookin these up quick, but like most prolific folks, he doesn’t concern himself with something sounding too close to something else. Reminds me a bit of Loudon Wainwright III, but all you need to hear is his Boeing whistle blower tune to see that his creative fire is burning BRIGHT right now and he can’t miss.
ABSOLUTE PURE TALENT JESSE HAS…. BORN WITH IT SOUNDS….. GOD BLESS HIM AND PLEASE NEVER STOP WRITING AND SHARING YOUR GENIUS WITH US!! MUCH ENJOYMENT YOU BRING AND I STILL HEAR SOME JOHN PRINE SOMETIMES…. THANK YOU FOR MAKING ME SMILE…..
A depression song that's actually about depression, not about overcoming, being brave or how true love will fix it, which it won't. A rare gem. Thank you.
As someone who's "always been a little bit sad around the edges", i love this and i love how much fun he has singing it... makes for a nice juxtaposition
why is this guy not super famous already.. i know why.. becuse he is spitting straight facts in his lyrics and some kinds of (People) dont like that.. this man has a unique voice and is a super song writer
Please bring out an album brother!!!! You'r raw acoustic stuff is up there with Nelson and Dylan. Its fresh, genuine and hits the nail on the head. Love from Liverpool❤✊
Hey brother, speaking as someone who's been to that brink and back, even losing some good souls to that black void, I bet you it can get better. You got all the tools you need to fix it, they are right there in your heart. Revel in your own talent, know you're worth it. Don't sweat the melancholy, it just means you still got some soul left in ya. All the good ones keep a tinge of blue around those edges. Great song, always glad to hear something worth feeling.
the world keeps turning no matter what we think of it, or each other, or the time we're living in. A friend once said to me that 'depression is an affliction of the intellectual' the more you're able to think about things and put shit into context, the worse it seems. Maybe - but the world keeps turning careless of us. That feller also told me I should write my anger down, put it out in the way you're doing but I have no talent. My guitar playing is remedial at best and my singing voice has a repellent quality unrivaled. You on the other hand, have got this. Stay on it, folks are HEARING you
Thats the point, once you have put it in context, it’s changed its face. You can’t ever figure this shit out, so quit trying and pick up the guitar. Cheers
All the best guitar players will say "meh I'm alright at playing" so just keep playing and put your heart and soul into it I don't play nearly as much as I used to and I regret it every day
Love you Jesse, keep em coming. You put all our unconscious thoughts into simple songs, and help us realize we're not alone, we're all on this sinking ship together!
I didn’t have as much fun learning the lyrics to a song since they came with the vinyl back then. Thank you for writing them down for us. Got the first verse and the chorus down. 😊❤🎉
I believe he's the best lyricist I've ever seen. Good lyricist are able to put three or so great lines seroundded by filler but hes songs are all great lines with absolutely no filler
Great song. Tough topic. Anybody who says they're uncomfortable with the topic might be depressed themselves. Thanks for talking (singing) about such an important topic.
Damn do I love the facial expressions he makes while he plays! I can’t believe I am getting to watch this level of phrase turning, song writing and picking unfold right now right here. Just blowing my mind again and again.
This is amazing dude! I thought this was a cover of something and was going to look up how to play it, but I can't find anything so I deduce that this is an original song? Holy shit man, you're from another time and place.
Just found you randomly ❤❤❤ brilliant! Listening at a country pub on my own in Uk with bad signal. What a find! Looks like Jim Morrison sings and writes like himself ❤ thank you for sharing
You are so talented. This song is amazing. Please don’t stop what you’re doing. I’ve been spreading your link around to anyone and everyone who will listen! You are a once in a generation talent.
When I’m depressed the first thing I do is text my girlfriend, the second thing I do is open up RUclips and sing along with this absolute masterpiece!!! Fantastic, I’m not a gambler but I’m willing to bet that things definitely don’t get better than this
The guitar throw is an inner validation of having to live through that horrid shit but still finding the strength to chug along like the Norfolk and Western 611 Train.
Gives me Muswell Hillbilly album vibes. Keep singing from the heart man, I feel it! You got something special, something real this world's missing. Inspiring!
Real talk, if you put out a vinyl album, it's going right next to my Guthrie, Pete Seeger and Jerry Jeff Walker albums. Also, I think I'm going to have to write a song about hoofing my recording accoutrements up a mountain to get clicks haha. I think you're from the south as well and if I had to record in a field of poke sallet, I'd be absolutely drenched in sweat this time of year, haha.
Well, your picking certainly seems to just better all the time, but it's the pure musicality of your songs that keeps me here. Also, a cloudburst doesn't last all day...
80,000+ subscribers in the two months this guy has been on RUclips. Jesse, your trajectory is impressive! I’m glad the algorithm introduced us. I really appreciate what you’re doing. You’re very talented dude keep on keepin’ on brother.
Jesse, don’t make them loose the K9’s on you dude, you can’t stay in the woods forever…….😑 Lol, really can’t express how much I enjoy your material and appreciate your talent. Thank you God bless ya’
Man that was a great song! You could tell Jesse really enjoyed playing that one. I'd say by the fifth video I realized Jesse might just be one of the best songwriters ever to live in our modern time right now!
Nice song! I see some poke weed in that background? It’s helpful for arthritis when it’s young. That red color is arsenic compounds. My granny told me it helped her sore hands, and she showed me how to cook it. Science article years later confirmed the plant was medicinal and nutritional…granny was smarter than I thought.
jesse,I hope you see this, you are a good soul. you inspire people, you speak the truth, and you have the talent to make music that people can really, feel. please never stop what you’re doing 🤙🏻
So impressive how you have developed your creativity and insights over the many years! From "Life Like mine" to "War isn't Murder", you keep sharing your gift of poetic observation! 👏👏👏
It’s funny, every time I nail a song I have the same urge to just throw the guitar. Luckily mine lands on a bed, but it’s like you know you just did good. That picking is absolute class
Please don't stop doing what you do. You're simply amazing and you're sins are so much better than what's out there. I'm confident that you'll make a living out of this.
Why is no one talking about the line "I was so broken that I went to get fixed, the veterinarian was nice but my doctor was pissed" That is GOLD!
🐈
Yes, but it can mean two things… He got meds that are animal approved, and/or an animal. Lol.
@@8dreamersfarm or he's "fixed" i.e. he got his balls snipped like a dog's by the vet😂
I don't think that he s talking about an actual veterinarian.. 😅.. I think it s just a nickname for some other kind of "doctor"
@@j.477I thought he did mean an actual veterinarian and it was a ketamine joke lol
I’m completely convinced Jesse can’t make a bad song. Every song is so uniquely catchy and touching. I love Jesse Welles
His old rock band was pretty meh but ever since he started doin all this solo country stuff he has been absolutely on fire with his writing
Check out his old stuff….you aren’t wrong, it’s just amazing to hear him do it in a totally different style

Quit being a fucking baby
Feeding the guitar to the plants so they'll get stronger. What a visionary.
It's what plants crave
Vitamin G
Old soul, young spirit. Keep doing what you do
Yes old soul is right!
Aw that little toss and smile at the end just made me so happy. This boy is such a treasure
I’ve been a tree hugger since I was boy ! I’m 68 now, and any man who sings about trees is a friend to me! I’m really really liking this guy!
Gotta love the manic guitar chuck and the end.😅 with a smile of course. Talk about poetry in motion
that was exactly my thought. beautiful
Throwing the guitar at the end is a lovely cherry on top
So hard to come by such authentic, well written music like this these days.
As someone who's "always been a little bit sad around the edges", i love this and i love how much fun he has singing it... makes for a nice juxtaposition
Does he have fun? That's a hard smile if ever I've seen it. That's a smile that's tough to keep up
Young Man, I grew up with a/strong musical tradition that appreciated your style, Black & White. I look foward to your succes.
why is this guy not super famous already.. i know why.. becuse he is spitting straight facts in his lyrics and some kinds of (People) dont like that.. this man has a unique voice and is a super song writer
His walk ups and walk downs all done without looking or thinking. He’s probably writing the next song in his head, while playing this one. Genius.
Knew somethin was up when he didn’t have his guitar strap on….
Love the sound of that old Stella! Play’n it loose!
Without luigi I probably would have never heard this dudes music and now hes one of my favorites. We should send Luigi a thank you note or something 😂

@tracybishop7792 good for you 👍
You are the shit Jesse. Glad to know it ain’t left to us olden’s
Absolutely love this guy and what he does. He's a genius, IMHO.
Guitar toss at the end, along with the excited look on his face says, "hell yeah, nailed this damn good song on the first take. I fuggin rock!"
Every new song is my new favorite Jesse but this one hits extra hard. I also work an industrial slicing machine 🫣 usually high.
i love his hybrid picking so much
As a sufferer of depression I claim this my new theme song. I really like your music. Thank you for sharing
“I’ve always been a little bit sad around the edges It ain’t nuthin to fix and it ain’t contagious” hits so hard
I love this song ❤
These tunes have been getting me through a tough time, and inspiring me to continue writing my own. You're absolutely killing it.
I really miss that 70s haircut on men. So appealing! ❤
Welles' never dry! Pumping out great lyrics by the day
My lord, the picking, the twang, the tune, the reality of the sound. It's what's missing in modern music.
The guitar toss is an exclamation point to how my day has gone. It was uterly perfect!
Wow another amazing tune keep it coming man you are a legend already.
Please bring out an album brother!!!! You'r raw acoustic stuff is up there with Nelson and Dylan. Its fresh, genuine and hits the nail on the head. Love from Liverpool❤✊
This guy reminds me that America is still not dead.
😂 Yeah right. America is finished.
“Perfectly good guitar”. 😂 (John Hiatt)
Perfect!
Depression has never sounded so good.
Say it , poor here, worked my broke ass off still hungry, scratching to survive....I love this young troubadour

When music relights that flame of hope. Thanks for helping wash away some of my jaded-ness Jessie!
Your style, your text, your you always make me pay attention. Thx for sharing this Jesse.
Love you Jesse, keep em coming. You put all our unconscious thoughts into simple songs, and help us realize we're not alone, we're all on this sinking ship together!
I love a RUclipsr who actually just records themselves playing and singing, instead of singing to a studio track and pretending. Thanks Jesse. 👍👍
A lot of times, depression is a perfectly natural and understandable response to certain things...
I didn’t have as much fun learning the lyrics to a song since they came with the vinyl back then. Thank you for writing them down for us. Got the first verse and the chorus down. 😊❤🎉

I've been a huge fan of Jesse Welles's music since this morning when I've heard it the first time, glad to have the opportunity.
It's done. You've got a Spanish fan's club. Thanks so much for your songs Jesse.
One of my favorites! Dude... how are you singing straight to my soul again, and again, and again....
They're songs for the times, and they definitely speak to this tragically screwed up generation of ours. The guy's a gem to be sure.
Just found you randomly ❤❤❤ brilliant! Listening at a country pub on my own in Uk with bad signal. What a find! Looks like Jim Morrison sings and writes like himself ❤ thank you for sharing

Best yet. I want to wander about in greenery and stumble upon a Jesse Welles concert. That, will be placed on my bucket list for sure.
I'm right there with ya on this un man!!! Superior lyrics......and I really dig that old style pick'n brother. Another excellent h.c. tune man!! ron
Oh, I've been waiting for this one! Thank you, sir!

My favourite so far, but they’re all amazing.
Thank you for bringing your gift into the world. It’s medicine. ❤
Ok who cloned John Prine and Bob Dylan into this hybrid folk singer ? I am smitten!!!
Yep..good deal…have you heard ‘hold On? Omg
Jeez he must have like three album's of material now! More amazing songs Jesse.
i noticed that all of your songs are so creative and original. Man this is good music. what keeps you from recording in a studio
The guitar throw is an inner validation of having to live through that horrid shit but still finding the strength to chug along like the Norfolk and Western 611 Train.
folks wont realise how blessed we are to have a guy like you picking around until its too late.
love 🖤

I'd just like to meet him and give him a big hug for thanks
Well, your picking certainly seems to just better all the time, but it's the pure musicality of your songs that keeps me here. Also, a cloudburst doesn't last all day...
I feel like you got a million subscribers / followers in your not to distant future and I am here for it! 🙌🏼
Oh no, STELLA! A little anti-depression therapy, Thanks!
Thank GOD for RUclips suggestions!!

Wonderful guitar playing! Kinda got that kind of New Orleans Blues thing going for it.
I adore this song. This and Boot Straps are by far my favourites, I have been listening on loop on spotify recently. Love you man, keep it up.
Jesse, don’t make them loose the K9’s on you dude, you can’t stay in the woods forever…….😑
Lol, really can’t express how much I enjoy your material and appreciate your talent.

Thankyou for putting this out there! I’m gonna go research it and see if we get it up here in the Northwest.
It's always pokeweed.
Casuals will miss the genius. I'm sort of speechless yet quietly amused
This guy got stuck in the pipe when they were pumping out musicians in the seventies. He just just dislodged it would appear!❤
Fr he reminds me of Gordon litefoot
some good old country blues! thank you brother.
Thank you for your work.
This groove would feel so at home on Workingman's Dead. This is such a damn good song.
Keep on keepin' on, brother. Don't slow your roll, just rock on.
jesse,I hope you see this, you are a good soul. you inspire people, you speak the truth, and you have the talent to make music that people can really, feel. please never stop what you’re doing 🤙🏻
Everything this kid touches is GOLDEN
Really appreciated this song and the lyrics, thank you sir.
That ending g where he just chucks the guitar into the Forrest! 🤣
This guy keeps amazing me and the rate of his production is like I've never seen! Subbed right away

Nice to hear an old soul that isn't old 👍
Jesse is really a breath of fresh air in the music industry.
Thank God he isn't in the industry yet.
@@_nelson_1958 anyone who makes music is part of the music industry unfortunately
I can't get enough of this guy
Keep going man, Welles 2024
