@@tuesdaypatience Depends on how you define that. If you Eurocentric artistry, specifically Easter European then you should probably watch rhythmic gymnastics or ballet.
Back when gymnastics was about ARTISTRY! This was my favorite quad and era of gymnastics. So many greats in these Olympics! Sadly the sport gradually went downwards after these Olympics and now it’s just recognizable.
It’s still about artistry, they are just allowed to be more athletic and innovative with the gymnastics aspect. There’s no need to churlishly disparage today’s athletes because you prefer to live in the archaic past.
@@saragrant9749it’s far from about artistry and it’s not about bashing current athletes it’s bashing the current code of points that is focused on heavy athletics and not about artistry, actual artistry(this sport had ballet vibes originally) and not cheerleader arm and body movements in between counting tumbling passes and wolf turns

Zelepoukina's score genuinely seems like it comes from an alt. universe where the judges were actually serious about artistry deductions in 1996, a time where they did not exist. I even watched the routine back a few times to see if she'd missed a value part (a pretty serious deduction) but no.
She got almost a 9.7 with a large step on the dismount. And as much as people rave about Ukrainian form and extension she has sloppy feet - numerous instances where they aren't pointed.
This was history being made. This was the first time the US had a real legitimate shot at the gold medal and in the media it had been bumped up as such. As you know America is a sports country and this by far was the most exciting gymnastics competitions for women's team in Olympic history. It really came down to the end.
Anna Mirgorodskaja is stunning beautiful... She's a goddess. Even while crying. Her pain is really heartbreaking... I figure the hard way they trained and lived. I'm so happy Lilia won the AA and Floor gold, she's a Queen and her excellent work made the team effort paid ❤️
She had a fairly large mistake that cost her about 4 tenths of a point when she had to bend at the waist to keep from falling off. She also lost some tenths of a point with a few wobbles and large step on the dismount and it was the Olympic games🤷. So I'm sure she was hoping to do much better.
They didn’t abolish them exactly. They’re just low-ranked elements. From the gymnast’s perspective the risk exceeds the reward. I agree it’s a shame. Beam routines have gotten very, well, routine…
I see people complaining😭 that in those times there would have been more artistry and that today tumbling is all. That's just fake news! Look better again: those routines had even more tumbling than today. Each of all these gymnasts had quite an aggressive routine. The difference is that, in those times, the photographic form (or slow motion form) wouldn't matter as today. "Artistry" is just their egocentric claims...
Totally agree. If gymnastics become more "artistic", people suddenly become to call for more tumbling and difficult... It's a never ending fight. And mostly of the routines before had the same range of elements than today, always adapted to the requirements of the quad. People should understand that!
Me encantaban los leotardos de ese tipo. Los de hoy en día llegaron a gustarme, pero ahora ya sacan muchos diseños feos, ademas muchas optan por los leotardos sin mangas, y asi parecen clavadistas o nadadoras de natación artística
This isn't a criticism of this Ukrainian team, but more of a general observation from that code of points, but there were a lot of poorly performed wolf jumps during that era - including a few dodgy ones in this video.
You aren’t paying attention then. Today’s beam routines are just as spectacular, you just choose to live in the past and churlishly disparage today’s athletes.

I miss seeing this level of variety in routines. FIG really needs to do something about every routine looking the same these days.
I agree…bring back the ARTISTRY is Artistic Gymnastics.
Exactly! Every single gymnast had something original on the skills and artistry.

@@yesthisismewThe difficulty ratings in the code of points is how we get around that, with routines being different and unique.
I was amazed by the routine of Liubov Sheremeta. I never saw this routine before. Thanks for uploading these beautiful video's.
It was just a great routine! I wish she would have made beam finals. And floor finals.
Lilia was poetry in motion…I can still see her floor routine in my mind.
Lilia's turn-out and point is so sublime! Brava!!!
i remember i had barely time to watch all routines this team was the most polished and they were underscored...

Every single routine was amazing
Such unique sets from this team. Also, bravo to Teslenko for keeping her cool during what we know is happening on Vault.
It was part of her training. The best train to block out background noise- those that want to win anyway.
Sheremeta and Zelepoukina deserved higher scores. Nice rotation for them

Love this variety on the bean that we don't see today! They were all great! Where's the commentary though?
Variety is still there, you just have to pay better attention.
I miss all the more difficult mounts onto the beam.
Pods routine was unreal. I have to say the American audience are very ungenerous with anyone who isn’t from USA . No applause

That was a very fine beam rotation! Iconic
I miss the times when every gymnast on a team had an opportunity to perform and showcase their talent. 3-up, 3-count has taken that opportunity away.
You are absolutely correct. They really destroyed many opportunities for other athletes
Agreed! The 6-5-4 format need to come back!
With more teams invited more gymnasts means longer times.

Okay... the velvet leos though??? Gorgeous
This was about the only time Lilia showed any unsteadiness on beam throughout those games, it’s remarkable.
Quel talent! Quel travail! Brav0!
Las gimnastas de esa época eran buenas en especial este equipo me gustó.
Buena dificultad
какая работа!!! все четкр, красиво, сложно, уверенно.
it's interesting to aknowledge what is happening in the background: russian gymnasts performing on the floor while the americans are on the vault.

Their Leos were so pretty!
they were very underscored, interesting tos ee them while hearing drama on vault with Usa
Série Incrível e Forte da Sheremeta
Really nice!
Does anyone know why Mirgorodskaia had to cry? Was she in pain? Her score wasn't very high but she didn't fall or anything.
She may have wanted to make the beam final

She was in a pretty tight battle with Sheremeta and Zelepukina to get into the AA final and just missed out with that beam routine. That's my guess.

Sad that Americans are so unrefined as a country that they can’t see the beauty that’s in front of them.
Sad that Europeans have such a stuffy, haughty, uppity, nose in the air aura of petty arrogance about them.
