    I have pre-diabetes. I signed up to Levels. $400 for the first month - and I am still in the first month. I am learning how foods affect me. For example, A lunch ham and cheese sandwich on Dave's Killer Powerseed bread has minimal effect on MY blood glucose. Add 1 plum to that and I get a bigger effect, but still very acceptable. However, for me, that same ham and cheese sandwich with 1 peach has a significantly greater effect. Yet a doctor on RUclips said that a plum or a peach is OK. Our own body's response can differ from the general case.
    I live in Seattle in summer and Guaymas, Sonora in winter. My plan is to use the CGM for a month in Seattle and then use a CGM for a month in Mexico. I want to find out how Mexican foods affect me and de-emphasize the ones that cause a blood glucose spike.
    Levels costs $200 for the subsequent months for CGMs. My HMO pharmacy would cost $168 per month. I had Costco request a transfer of the prescription and they charged me $86.60 for 2 Freestyle Libre 14 day sensors (one month).
    The first month was worth it for me because of the APP and support. My plan is to continue from time-to-time via Costco.
    CGMs are over-the-counter in Mexico. In fact Amazon Mexico sells the same CGM for approximately $US175.50 for one month supply. No prescription needed.
    Note that neither Levels nor Amazon Mexico can send CGMs across the border.

    This is apparently not for poor people. The funny thing is that the sensors probably are NFC sensors and therefore anyoyne with slight programming skills should be able to write open source free to use monitoring apps to aid those who are poor.
    Those subscription apps are almost as unethical as "pay to play" games ...they drain money from people who show know better than bleed money

      You're not wrong. There is a Facebook group... I think it's called FreeStyle Libre Geeks? And they talk about how to hack into the systems to make it work in different ways. And while there is an expense, they can be covered by insurance for some and I generally recommend using them for about a month to learn how to eat, then stop. So it's not forever.

      They do offer subscriptions at different rates to use their app. And it's a nice system! If you just want to use the sensors and don't need the extra support (or already have a nutrition professional helping you), you would be better off getting a prescription and buying it directly from your pharmacy.

    A CGM would be helpful to me based upon previous very low Glucose episodes I have experienced in the past few months. Unfortunately, my current type 2 diabetes condition is apparently not considered severe enough according to my insurance to justify a CGM. And being retired on a fixed income makes the monthly expense out of reach. Thank you nonetheless for your efforts in providing an optional way into the CGM world.

      3 ideas for you, Laurie. First, you might want to learn how to support thiese the way I do. That is helping your clients get a prescription from their doc and you support them directly. It's the least expensive to your client and very easy. I help a lot of provider get set up with this. You could also use the practitioner dashboards with Veri: www.veri.co/shop?refc=VSM-REALFOODMATTERS-USD&_from=karen36 or wit Signos: shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1966655&u=3425832&m=122159&urllink=&afftrack=

    What If i'm a professional or very informed consumer? It's just glucose values in the end which is straightforward and If i really need it I can just get a dietitian to help me create a meal plan. Either way, You can learn your patterns over time provided you can examine your own glucose levels over time.

    Does insurance pay for some of the monthly subscription?

    • @HackYourBloodSugar
      @HackYourBloodSugar  Год назад

      Hey Brandon. Insurance will only cover the CGM device itself if you go the route of getting a prescription and buying from a pharmacy. And that depends on how your doc codes it and your insurance. For example, I've had clients without diabetes get insurance to pay for their CGM 100% and I have clients WITH diabetes who get zero coverage. But I help my clients use the free trial to get their first CGM sensor for free, so that saves about $50. The memberships are not covered but 1:1 appts with your nutritionist/dietitian to go over data might be. (Is that clear as mud now?) This is why I recommend short-term use (1 month) with good support so you can see exactly what to do and make a strategy that is workable.

      @@4242brvrdbd Oh, yes. The CGM would be a good fit for you. It would be worth it to invest in some support when using it to get feedback. Particularly on how you fuel your training sessions. Also finger sticks are great, but it's not always easy to see all the trends. Probably 1 month with some support would make you an expert and take you a long way. (It's also a great accountability tool when you're trying to tighten things up!) I've got my next group starting in March. It would be a great fit for you unless you're more of a 1:1 guy. @HackYourBloodSugar  11 месяцев назад +1

      I'm assuming you mean Veri? They came on the scene after I published this article. I like to update the prices in January. They have some less expensive options. In fact, you can purchase your own CGM at the pharmacy and just pay for their app separately, which makes them the least expensive of the tech companies that I'm aware of. We haven't loved their system enough yet to adopt it. Also, they don't accept people with diabetes and they (like other apps) can only provide coaching, they can't give you advice.

    • @mariajesusdiaz
      @mariajesusdiaz 11 месяцев назад

      @@HackYourBloodSugar Yes, Veri! They are cheaper using the same Libre 14 days. In your opinion which delivers better data? Cause Libre app only allows you to see the 12 hr data, but you can not zoom in on every hour. I am trying to figure which app, Levels, Nutrisense, Veri, etc is better, cause the sensor is the same in each one.

    Do I need a doctor's prescription for a CGM? And is it only for people who have diabetes? How does that work?

    • @HackYourBloodSugar
      @HackYourBloodSugar  Год назад +1

      These are the million-$$ questions, Lisa. Yes, you do need a prescription but NO, it is not just for people with diabetes. I find that 95% of the time, doctors are happy to write a script for it for prevention as well. When people join our waiting list (FREE), they get a copy of the letter I provide to providers with prescription codes to make that easier. Here's a link to that: p.bttr.to/3tZM9hj Also, if getting a prescription is a barrier, the other the companies listed have an on-staff prescriber and they provide the CGM along with the service. That's one reason they cost a little more.

      Yes, it's great to have your own prescription so you can get the $40 price tag. At some point most people (not all) need some support in interpretation of their data and how to take action. Either you pay for the app with A.I. or you pay a human. Ideally, you only pay for what you need, then can carry on with the free app and less expensive sensor price tag! That's what we do
