This is so informative. I'm a bit odd. I know in my heart I'm Insulin resistant. I've never had sugar issues and my lipids are also good, oddly. But, I do have a fatty liver, a big tummy and skinny legs like my mom did. No ankle swelling, but I go into a coma if I eat carbs. Literally, almost unwakeable.. kind of scary to be honest. I do have autoimmune, so that causes inflammation flares. I have just started watching these videos the last week and love the information. I'm 57 and will be 58 in 6 days, I do look younger than my age, but in those tests for endurance or getting up from the floor, I fail miserably, I'm probably 110 according to those 😂. I hope I can keep learning and have my best life in the years to come! Thank you for these videos!!!! From the bottom of my heart ❤
I used to have fatty liver and I juiced celery juice form a whole celery every morning for a couple weeks and waited 30 min to eat breakfast. I got the info from the medical medium guy who was popular a few years back for liver detoxing. Just thought I’d pass along something that worked for me. Right after that, I lost my last few pounds and have been skinny since.
Suzie.. if you've never measured fasting insulin and found it to be 6 or under, it's still likely you're insulin resistant. Don't play around any longer with your health.
I’m certified in manual lymphatic drainage, Vodder Technique. And I’m also educating people how to keep that extra fluid moving so it doesn’t set up shop. That extra fluid means your body is working extra overtime to repair it’s self, and it can’t handle the work load.
@@eddy45686 exercise, manual lymphatic drainage and dry brushing. Move that fluid through the lymphatic system. This woman is a Saint, I followed her advice on keto, and went from 213 down to 169 and it was relatively easy. The most important lesson she taught me was how dangerous sugar is!!! I think that she has a video fruit is evil, anyone serious about their health should watch!! Much love and peace Dr. Boz!!! Thank you 😊
Only Americans have issues with fruit, many cultures and animal species eat high fruit and complex carbs diets and remain slim(e.g. Japan, India). The problem is that Americans don't exercise everyday(e.g. bicycle, long walks) and we don't eat mostly complex carbs with fiber(e.g. potatoes, rice)but too much simple carbs(e.g. cakes, cookies, ice cream) and/or fast foods which are loaded with various types of sugars(e.g. corn syrup). Fruit is a superior food with "live" nutrients compared to eating dead animals. I am not a vegetarian but I think it is reckless to say that fruit is evil when actually the standard American diet(SAD) is "evil" and the cause of obesity and chronic diseases(e.g. coronary heart disease, colon cancer).
Yeah I'm not with you on the fruit. It has many benefits and micronutrients. But obviously one wouldn't just sit and eat a whole pineapple or a whole cluster of grapes! Fruit is much better than refined flour or sugar
So, I was keto for the last 6 years or so and, due to being sedentary, lost 20lbs of muscle this winter. So I tried carbs this last month and... dang... I feel like a lumbering sloth. Brain's fuzzy, headaches like crazy, get cold easier. It really sucks. Keto just works for me.
I was having signs of insulin resistance until my wife and I started cutting carbs and increasing protein. At first I yo-yoed in weight but I now I am 5 lbs lighter, she is 30 lbs lighter, and our insulin resistance signs are decreasing. We need to work on it more but keeping the same weight year after year is a goal in of itself.
its not priority to increase protein, just increase good fat like butter and eggs, eat less carbs and products like wheat which cause high insulin spikes
I agree ,carbs is a huge factor in raising insulin so cut that out and opt for healthy carbs instead. That's what I did and after two years I don't have insulin resistance.
I got Hyperinsulinemia and since I have been eating 10 eggs, Tuna, Lard and a few vegetables everyday. Occasionally I will have salami, bacon, ham, or chicken. All my gout, headaches, joint stiffness, heartburn, IBF, flatulence, flu and colds have been MIA. I found that wheat is was the main cause, causing unbearable heart burn and IBF. The trade off is defiantly worth it.
found this channel after I started doing fasting because I am not happy with my weight and where my A1C is. The fasting was kinda rough to start but after doing it for a few days it gets easier and you definitely feel better.
I do have hairy toes and always shaving them and thin ankles and calves…I was insulin resistant a lot worse than I am now…I’m mostly carnivore now and now my dark spots on my knee caps almost completely gone and I had a skin tag but it’s gone too…my BMI is still showing I’m overweight but I’m not nearly what I used to be….I’m a work in progress.
Got my first skin tag this year. Yikes! I dont have cankles, pass the shin test, BMI is at 31. Been pre-diabetic most of my adult life but I feel I'm in the insulin resistant crowd. Cutting dow my carb intake has me 5 lbs lighter so I will continue this journey.
Hi there! You may be like me! Insulin resistant and Not diabetic!! 😊 You can also get IR from something called PCOS(poly cystic ovarian syndrome), or from adrenal fatigue. Try googling those 2 things, see if the symptoms feel even more “right”… there’s supplements that help drastically with insulin resistance, because it can be reversed if you do have it! You’ve already done the first part!! Plenty protein, healthy fats, very little carbs. Protein and veggies do not set off insulin the way carbs do,which is the issue. But check out a supplement called inositol, it makes your cells “sensitive” to insulin again!! I also take another to help with my liver and respiratory support. NAC, it’s called, an acronym for a looooong named supplement, but the food change, and supplements- I’ve never felt better in years. I hope your doing well, and if there’s anything you’d like to know, just ask!! But if you like, definitely look up PCOS and adrenal fatigue..this lady is going to confuse ppl, because she only says you get this from diabetes!😂🤦🏻♀️
Good to know. I don't have any of these signs. And I don't get tires. I don't do strict Keto but I eat very little Carbs, and basically do IF as a normal thing. Late breakfast, early dinner, no snacks.
This is a great video not only about IR but medical practice. Too often, doctors don't pay attention, don't talk to patients, don't examine them and just order imaging or laboratory results in order to let the tests tell them what's wrong. Medical intuition is a sign of someone thinking about the problem, putting together the pieces of the puzzle. Images and analyses are supposed to confirm or rule out a diagnosis.
Your three day sardine fast was revolutionary for me. It drives down my glucose but raises my cholesterol. Regardless, I lost 22 pounds in three months, cut my blood sugar by more than half and lowered my A1c by a third. Bonus, my fasting insulin dropped from 11 to 6. Three months. I did two sardine fasts.
Every doctor I’ve talked to have all said that BMI was not reliable. At all. It doesn’t take muscle mass in to account. I’m 200lbs with abs but I’m “obese”
All sardines are good for your blood & organs. I have 45 cans right now in my refrigerator, I like,em cold. Sometimes I fry them in butter 🧈 make them crispy critters, yep 😊😊😊😊
You are spot on.. my wife and I started a insulin resistant diet and dropped 25 pounds in 2 months.1st week we threw away 80% of the processed crap out of our fridge and cabinets. We use Dr. Eric Berg RUclips to know more about insulin resistant and foods we should eat. Living in Colorado our big problem is buying quality green produce. We buy produce every other day. Its made a huge difference. It took about 3 months to get in a rhythm but it works. Again hardest thing in Colorado is quality produce.
I know a lot of people who all their life in fact have had what is largely considered to be a very healthy diet, who do not overeat, who do not in fact consume sugars, and sweets worth at all mentioning, suffering from all these problems like, headaches, swollen feet, arthritis, sinusitis, bp, sugar, .... . There is always a perfect explanation for everything but such an explanation is not so commonly sought for, and not so easily found, never by an imperfect individial. Yes health and medicine is always a very precise, exact and a subtle science and an art, but such subtlety is never in the clasp of an unsubtle individual. Neither is true knowledge merely the viewpoint of an optimist who always sees the glass as half full, or the view point of the opportunist who always sees in it a personal profit. True light is not visible to one who chooses to be blind. Unless one choose to be perfect in oneself, one will never have access to ,and never acquire a perfect knowledge and a perfect understanding of anything. This perfect code is not so easy to perfectly crack, hack, jack. No harm in trying though. Nothing wrong with that at all.
Ensure it's real olive oil, as far too many brands are fake. DHA is not reduced by spring water, which is preferable to fake "olive" oil that's really artificially flavoured, industrially processed refined grain, legume or seed oils falsely sold as vegetable oils.
There is one problem with the ankles test. Over a quarter of those who have had low-back spinal surgery will develop edema while sitting. It has nothing to do with insulin, but is a result of disruption in the lymphatic system of the lower back, interfering with the normal flow of fluid up from the feet into the lymphatic system of the trunk (where the excess fluid re-enters the blood stream). This edema can also arise from low-back muscle problems (periodic or chronic pain, spasms, tightness), as the contraction of those muscles can narrow the lymph channels going through that area. Of course, being overweight (from insulin insensitivity) simply aggravates the condition. Best for both: Get up and walk.
I am not overweight by most people’s standards (5’6, 140 lbs), but I am about 15 lb overweight for what I was used to a few years ago. I also did not pass the shin test and have had very strong post-meal reactions (extreme tiredness/fatigue and slurring/brain fog). Halp!
Keep following the US's standards and more people are stepping into their graves prematurely. 5'6 140lbs is definitely overweight (assuming your body fat is high, and muscle mass is low).
@@wearetubes Sorry if you think I was intentionally offending you. You did say "most people’s standards". The number you quoted (5'6 140) is definitely a standard similar to the US. My family & friends travel a lot. We've lived in Sweden, Netherlands, Finland, Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, etc. and all of us are super fit. Let me give you some real data based on personal experience: all of us bike, hike, run marathons and do triathlons, and our BMI ranges from 19.5-21. The only two people I know who are fit but have +25 BMI are heavy weightlifters, who look like mini hulks. BMI is not the holy grail that determines fitness, yes, but apart from the bodybuilders I've mentioned, a "fit" person with low body fat and regular muscle mass shouldn't be able to have a BMI above 22.
@@wearetubes On a more practical note, do light cardio daily and lift light weights/do body weight training (pilates, yoga). They can definitely help with your overall metabolism, insulin level and leptin level. Just don't stress yourself since it increases cortisol, which is bad bad news for any kind of hormonal issues. So be careful if you wanna try HIIT. It's not good in the long run, trust me. Generations of athletes here. Good luck with your health.
I got a glucose meter just to see what's going on. I really didn't have any symptoms but figured it wouldn't hurt to see. I ate like crap for nearly a decade, almost no exercise, and overweight. So figured I'd be close. But nope, perfectly fine. I'm around 77 - 80 in the AM fasted. Takes about 2 hrs after eating to return to this level also.
@@kofyadega5341 technically different sure, but my understanding is if insulin spikes so will blood glucose. Isn't that correct? So if eat something and check every half hour to see how I respond to it and after 2hrs my glucose levels are under 100 isn't that confirming my insulin response is normal?
My family members has all this .. doctors say nothing about it ,give bp pills ,and clean health bill. I try to tell family member but nothing gets through, year after year ,more stubborn, hears it as insult but I'm communicating 💯 about health.😢

I would love for her to do a video on gestational diabetes. When I was pregnant I failed my glucose tolerance pretty significantly but my fasting and postprandial glucose levels were always fine, provided I ate reasonably well. No longer pregnant but honestly terrified of developing full fledged DM in the future. Normal BMI, good diet and averaging an hour of exercise daily.
@@katemiller7874 same here too in 1997..my endocrinologist told me that gestational diabetes can be a predisposition for type 2 diabetes in later years. This did happen a few years ago. I can't argue with a few of those claims because I'm not medically educated. But a few others, I'd suggest are not indicators. I have had sinus allergy issues for decades, which may trace back to a lifelong addiction to sugar; I also had a major stroke at the end of 2016. The ONLY concern it seems medical staff managed was to get me on my feet again. Thank God they did that. Being from the south and seemingly born with a lazy tongue, I sometimes do slur words. In fact, around 2nd grade, I had to take a few minutes of every day at school to visit with some kind of speech therapist because apparently someone couldn't understand me at times, also had to do related homework with my mom at home. (I had to exhibit that I could properly pronounce words like clothes, where I'd say it as close. There were a lot of these kinds of words, but it was just a minute in time. I still pronounce many words as I did then, simply because it's easier and people still seem to understand me without making a squinting expression) However, contrary to your assertion, I can and often do speak rather quickly, unlike both, the southerner I am and unlike the marker for insulin resistance you claim. I have no doubt I'm currently insulin resistant. I'm fairly certain I am, thus why I strive to correct it and attempt to fast quite often. I started doing long walks recently but I'm on hiatus because I had a toenail permanently removed because it was damaged. For the moment, it hasn't healed sufficiently to return to that exercise. In no way am I defending myself. I'm highly confident I'm insulin resistant. But simply saying not every item is a giveaway. I also do not have dark skin at any joints.
In all honesty, your fasting glucose alone gives you a pretty good idea. Under 100 is considered normal, 100-125 is prediabetic, and anything 126+ indicates full-blown diabetes. Also, a lot of these symptoms may not show up until you're already diabetic. Relying on these alone is no substitute for regular check-ups.
Not buying the shin test. A lot of things can cause a little water retention. Especially if you do this at night after having been on your feet all day.
Disagree with BMI…..it was originally designed for very underweight and very overweight. It has been bastardised into being used for everyday use. It does not account for muscle or bone mass. I have a BMI of about 33. As a female that is obese. But I have a lot of muscle. Medical people look at me in disbelief and say….no way your BMI is that high.
if you're six pack, going to gym every day, or working on field such construction it's understandable if the BMI doesn't fit you because your muscle mass, otherwise you just obese
It's a blunt tool, but can still be useful. The main benefit might be that it's simple and doesn't require fancy fat measuring gadgets, but still give you a rough estimate of how you're doing weightwise. That doesn't mean putting on one kg and surpassing the normal weight range immediately makes someone have health problems, it's more like the gas warning light on your car, saying "You're fine now, but you may wanna keep an eye on this issue and make sure it doesn't get too bad because then you'll have a problem!"
And by the way, bone mass is not an issue, although some people like to use it as an explanation. Our skeletons doesn't weigh that much and the variation between people is not that great, so being "big boned" just doesn't add significant weight.
You can still be skinny fat according to Dr. Lustig , ALT should be below 20 for liver and of course Uric acid according to Dr. Perlmutter needs to be below 5.5
I have hairy toes (so much for that one being a sign ) and no dark skin in those places but skin tags and too high BMI etc. When I was younger, I did not have the skin tags at all, still was slightly overweight, had LOTS of energy, have always stored my fat around the middle mostly. There are a couple of big pieces missing here, genes and stress hormones.
Great content. I suspect dry eye (Dr Google) could be another symptom of insulin resistance. I had high A1C so I started Keto but before Keto my eyes used to have the sensation of grit on the surface and initially resolved for the rest of the day by an eye wash. I noticed after doing Keto and 2MD my eyes stopped feeling this irritation. I put it down to something spilling over into my eyes and clumping together to form grit/particles.
I had 'Dry Eye' for years......Dr gave me drops that felt like sand in my eyes so stopped using them. Since starting Ketovore I no longer have the dry eyes AND am losing weight slowly. Thanks for mentioning this problem........no one has mentioned it to my knowledge.
I found wheat flour caused my heartburn. Try cutting it out or severely limiting wheat and your heartburn will subside in a day or two. Also a pinch of salt under the tongue wiil quiet the fire in my belly if I mess up and eat too much wheat. I can handle one piece of bread or small bit ofpasta a day only or the fire comes back for days.
Thanks for this info. Just a note.... perhaps recommend that peops get a bioscan done to measure their body mass. I am a very fit muscular stocky female. My bmi is "high" but my weight is way less than the weight of my muscle mass and bones.
When I got bomarded qith skin tags 2 years ago I wish I knew what this all meant. I think I cuaght the resistance in its early stage bc not all these symptoms apply (ed) to me, but some.most sertainly did. But now I think I was winding out of it bc I no longer have most standard symptoms, in fact my weight ia dropping dead now after 3 years struggle.
I can’t stand to eat carbs now, right after I anything with carbs, I fall asleep no matter what. 😢
Suzie.. if you've never measured fasting insulin and found it to be 6 or under, it's still likely you're insulin resistant. Don't play around any longer with your health.
SO informative, I watched it 2x. Learned a great amount that was never told anywhere else.
I’m certified in manual lymphatic drainage, Vodder Technique. And I’m also educating people how to keep that extra fluid moving so it doesn’t set up shop. That extra fluid means your body is working extra overtime to repair it’s self, and it can’t handle the work load.
Right- ok, but you advocate to breath in toxic heated oils...hmmm. Not very credible IMHO.
So that means it's time to fast
@@jaredpatterson1701 not always. Fasting isn’t going to move that extra fluid through the lymphatic system.

@@eddy45686 exercise, manual lymphatic drainage and dry brushing. Move that fluid through the lymphatic system. Because your lymphatic system is completely dependent on your cardiovascular system and your muscles contracting to move fluid. “Detox” just have you pee out the extra water in the lymphatic fluid.
@@daw7773 👏👏👏

@craigdendy5762 Some carbs are healthy when the person eating them is healthy.

Thank goodness for keto! Prof Noakes switched me on in 2016. Lost 60 pounds and never, ever looking back
Got my first skin tag this year.
You can also get IR from something called PCOS(poly cystic ovarian syndrome), or from adrenal fatigue.
What's ur age, is the skin tag still there
@directajith No, it is gone. I started excersizing and trying to cut down on sugars aka carbs.
Just fantastic.
Not many GPs know about this excellent test.
Every doctor I’ve talked to have all said that BMI was not reliable. At all. It doesn’t take muscle mass in to account. I’m 200lbs with abs but I’m “obese”
Thank you for being prompt and to the point, and trimming away excess info!
Outstanding video! Straight to the point and possibly lifesaving for some!

You may want to look into growing your own micro greens, easy to do indoors, and sprouting, also easy to do.

King Oscar wild caught sardines in Olive oil are delicious!!!
I learned the olive oil is now being mixed with inflammatory veg oil. So I eat tuna and sardines in water. Them darn food industry folks.
I like Sole Marie Portuguese style sardines in olive oil and with some hot sauce on top to swallow down 🤭
@@cherylbroadenax1006 I’m guessing you need to be more specific and say seed oil since olive oil is a veg oil.
Ensure it's real olive oil, as far too many brands are fake. DHA is not reduced by spring water, which is preferable to fake "olive" oil that's really artificially flavoured, industrially processed refined grain, legume or seed oils falsely sold as vegetable oils.
@@Infiniti25 olives aren't vegetable.
I’m so mad that my endocrinologist documented pitting edema 10 yrs ago. Never suggested anything but “lose weight.” I need to find a new doc.
They only prescribe

Keep following the US's standards and more people are stepping into their graves prematurely. 5'6 140lbs is definitely overweight (assuming your body fat is high, and muscle mass is low).
@@El_FzEq I don’t follow US standards. You assume everyone on the internet is from the US?
@@El_FzEq People still tell me I’m slim. They roll their eyes when I suggest I’m overweight. I have to explain to them that I have a small frame.

So figured I'd be close. But nope, perfectly fine. I'm around 77 - 80 in the AM fasted. Takes about 2 hrs after eating to return to this level also.
@ La Verdad Busca.please do not rely on your glucometer score to gauge your insulin sensitivity.Insulin and glucose are two different metrics.
@@kofyadega5341 technically different sure, but my understanding is if insulin spikes so will blood glucose. Isn't that correct?
From Dr. Berry i heard that insuline also increases the size of the prostate, in 80 percent of the cases.
That thumb imprint on my shin.... and I got the crazy shakes today before my meal.
Not buying the shin test. A lot of things can cause a little water retention. Especially if you do this at night after having been on your feet all day.
I wish I knew this 25 years ago. I'm diligently working to solve my insulin resistance.
I noticed a ton of skin tags on my brother's neck. I told my mom I think he's diabetic. Sure enough, 2 months later he told us he was.
So damn smart (and easy on the eyes), Dr. Boz!
Completely useless tool
💯

If too much insulin makes tissue grow then I wonder if that’s the reason why our ears, nose and even prostate for men enlarge with age.
It affects hormone levels causing increases in estrogen. ( Man boobs etc)
Ears and nose appear bigger because of bone loss. The face basically shinks and also loss of fat pads.

I would also like to add, dental caries on atypiaue surfaces and at an adult age.
I have hairy toes (so much for that one being a sign ) and no dark skin in those places but skin tags and too high BMI etc. When I was younger, I did not have the skin tags at all, still was slightly overweight, had LOTS of energy, have always stored my fat around the middle mostly.
I put MSM drops in my eyes and it really helps my dry eyes. I saw it in another Dr Boz video.
low carbs has not helped my dry eyes at all. Sea buckthorn though...
I figure out how to get rid of acid reflex Apple cider vinegar sour Kraut and help me loving this journey week 3
