    Meyer was a German optical company, founded by Hugo Meyer. In 1918 Dr. Paul Rudolph, the inventor of Zeiss' Tessar and Protar, developed Meyer's Double Plasmat which was derived from Meyer's symmetrical Euryplan lens. In the 1920s he developed fast variants, the Kino-Plasmat f2 and the World's fastest lens of its time, the Kino-Plasmat f1.5
    After WWII Meyer was the second East German lens supplier after Carl Zeiss Jena. It became a part of VEB Pentacon and after some point, all the Meyer lenses were renamed Pentacon. In mid-1960s Meyer introduced lenses with interchangeable adapters for different camera types. The first such a lens was Orestegor 4/200, which could be mounted on Exakta Varex, Exa II, Pentacon, Praktina, and Praktica 35 mm cameras, with applicable adapters. Orestegor 5.6/500 could be mounted on Exakta Varex, Exa II, Pentacon, Praktina, Praktica as well as Praktisix medium format SLR.
    After German reunification, the last original company's lenses were made until it's bankruptcy in 1991.
    The Carl Zeiss Jena 135mm f/3.5 lens was included in Praktica camera bundles of the 1970s as the telephoto.

    More optical faults you try to correct in a lens, the more lens elements you need. Old lens designs were often limited to a few lens elements because a lack of sufficient coatings caused large light losses. Light is reflected/lost for every lens element when light passing from both sides of the lens element. If the glass reflects 5% of the light, in a 4 lens element design, 66% of the light got through, compared to a multi-coated lens with 1% reflection, 92%.
    To build a lens for the same purpose with 6 elements, that would lose 54%. Therefore, older lenses tend to have fewer elements. It also labeled as a Carl Zeiss Jena 135mm Sonnar, or CSJ 135.
    The Meyer-Optik Görlitz Orestor 135 mm f2.8 was manufactured by the Meyer company in Dresden (GDR) in the 1960 - 70s. After the merging of several companies and the foundation of the VEB Pentacon, the lens, slightly updated, came to be produced as the Pentacon 135mm f2.8
    Meyer-Optik Görlitz Orestor 135 mm f2.8 is 5 elements in 4 groups and not multi-coated.
    Some suggest that Carl Zeiss Jena 135mm f3.5 even more sharpener. Possibly Carl Zeiss Jena 135mm f3.5 is 5 element in 4 groups.

    Although there is not much in it, I do believe that in every case tje Meyer Optik Gorlitz is beter than the Zeiss - the Contrast is better, the Sharpness is just marginally better, the detail in the tree is better at stopped down apertures, and the lack of starburst defect is of course better corrected. Of all these things the most important is the contrast. With lens design, the sharpness is limited by the maximum aperture of the lens. This is perhaps why the f2.8 lens beats the f3.5. I also prefer the classic style of the Gorlitz Zebra - I believe they were first to make lenses in the Zebra style. The Zebra style indicates high-contrast, which was even more important with film camera photography as it was so much harder to correc in post process work.     Oh, and the Meyer Optik also does not have a Magenta cast to it - this may be a result of ageing of the coating in the Zeiss. We will never know, of course ;)

    I think and I think that I already do Carl Zeiss Zena 135mm f3.5 vs Meyer Optik Görlitz 135mm f2.8. Why because I have made RUclips card for Carl Zeiss Zena 135mm f3.5 vs Meyer Optik Görlitz 135mm f2.8 a year ago. I can't find any video related to this.

    I adapt the 135mm f/2.8 Orestor to my Sony A6500 with a Kipon focal reducer which ends up as a 135mm f/2.0 lens with virtually no crop factor to consider,

      I think that the image quality is pretty reasonable - especially for portrait work. Here is a portrait of my daughter shot with the combination 135mm Orestor + Kipon Focal Reducer + A6500. rpcrowe.smugmug.com/Portrait-Gallery/i-89D6xgH
      It could actually be somewhat sharper - I did some skin smoothing with this portrait!

    I'm so sad I let my MOG 2.8:135 get away - I won one in auction but was having financial issues. It was beautiful! The guy tried to work with me for a really really long time but when my time ran out I didn't see his message :(

    Боке больше нравится с майер, цейс этот слишком дорогой проще купить юпитер 37а сильно дешевле при тех же показателях

    ive got a 135mm Carl Zeiss Jena lens from 1927, great lens. And really rare now you just dont see any of the 20's lenses and basically as soon as the nazis came to power just 20,000 were made a year at best. Through till the end of the war.

      135mm Carl Zeiss Jena lens from 1927, does it look like mine zebra? Yes, it a great lens indeed. Zeiss was making lenses after 1st and 2nd WW. And Communists come and start making hellions using Zeiss formula
      the only hard time for Zeiss was at 70/80. Although it led to the Zeiss Sony collaboration. The price I skyrocketing. Many German Optic makers suffered Only 4 survived, well we can take out Rodenstock so we have 3 only.
