    To all the Roger haters and criticizers..Roger was still cautious about his knees so he limited his movement and just worked on his serv in firstset..so once the set was in the bag, he started moving around somewhat in second set..and he also got 4 break points in set 2 ..even though he played in RG grass is news to him after surgery ..of all things he wants to protect his knees.after almost a year of sitting up he doesn.t want to go bck in hibernation .and atleast play for. Some length of time. He doesn't need to be in his best form to beat ivashka who was still good bit not enough against Roger..he is Roger Federer ...so he.ll find a way to win even when he's not in good form..whenever he plays he is a delight to watch for everyone ..doesn't matter if he wins or not...he.ll definitely bring out his best tennis when it is required...

    I think Roger played a good match. My impression is that he’s testing different shots. He wants to test his skill level at this point. As he goes along ( I hope for the next few matches) he will improve his shot making. Having said all of this I believe he will improve his first service percentage and work on reducing unforced errors. I hope Federer fans understand this is a process. As for Joker and Nadal fans, you should hope Federer plays his best tennis to ensure a positive and competitive run for all. Remember he has been a wonderful influence on all young players around the globe.

    Just for the ones ignoring this, in the open era, Federer is BY FAR the greatest player, with 19 titles. The 2nd isn't Djoko nor Murray nor Nadal of course, but Sampras, with... 10 titles, "only" the half.
    Before the open era, some had way more... cause all the Slam + most of the tournaments were played on grass, so, it's logical. Fed plays only 2 of them by year, sometimes 3.
    So, even if he doesn't win this year, at least it won't change this fact.

    as we can. He is almost 40 and it is time for the new generation to take over.
    He is my favourite player but we all know that Djoko is the one to win this year.

      @lieviontennisandwrestling2814 3 года назад

      perhaps you are correct. But it seems true that Federer loves to play the game, especially on grass. How long he wants to play is entirely his decision -- win or lose.
      NextGen, results, Djokovic, Nadal -- all this has nothing to do with someone's love for the game.
      Also, NextGen is slowly approaching, sure. But, in the words of Djokovic -- "I will make them work their asses off." He has lived up to his word in GS finals against Thiem, Medvedev, Tsitsipas, and matches against Zverev and others.
      EDIT: NextGen is yet to win a slam in which any of the Big 3 played (US Open 2020 -- Djokovic was defaulted, and Federer and Nadal were absent.)

      Good point about shortening the rallies. But that slice backhand is still lethal - just think about the backspin he puts on those balls, returning those with a reasonably safe net clearence is extremely difficult, you need to put a lot of spin on the ball, but you can't be hitting it too hard, so it lands short and high on the other side, much easier to attack.
