- A Brentwood home where Marilyn Monroe lived is facing demolition, but fans home they can change its fate. Kareen Wynter reports for the KTLA 5 News at 1 on Sept. 6, 2023.
KTLA 5 News - Keeping Southern Californians informed since 1947.
Thank you for publicising this. I'm a Marilyn fan from the UK and I visited Fifth Helena Drive in 2004. It is really peaceful and the fans are very respectful of the other residents. I hope to visit LA again with my daughter in a couple of years and show her many historical landmarks connected to Marilyn and other great Hollywood stars. I'm ready to sign any petition to stop this demolition happening and I know many other fans around the world are too.
Very well put !!! I agree totally
Why do people have to destroy everything that's old and historical 😢
As you said, its old. The current owner bought it and he deserves the same right to live in a functional house
The land is worth more than the structure. Again---it's all about money, and resale value. The thought is: Why have a home built in 1920 when you can build a new mansion and sell it for tens of millions of dollars. It's a shame but, I enjoyed riding past Marilyn Monroe's, Betty White, and Danny Thomas's homes. Many of these celebrity homes are now considered "tear downs".
Well, the state is going back to Mexico. So might as well it doesn't have the California vibe anymore.
@@larrybruce4856Homes that you would never be able to afford
…..Unfortunately, because it’s L.A. 🤷🏼♂️
I don't understand why they would buy the property just to tear it down. If they just wanted land couldn't they have found land in Brentwood without Marilyn's house on it??
I doubt there are many, if any, empty lots in Brentwood that are shovel ready for development of a large home.
@@roachtoasties It doesn't need to be empty land, obviously. They could buy another property that they like in Brentwood with another house on it that they could tear down. Why tear Marilyn's house down?
Sometimes developing can get out of hand to where it seems like a waste. Every couple of years when someone wants to build something new they just gonna keep buying the same land over and over and tear down whatever is there and rebuild? At some point it gets weird...MM's house is one of those things that they can save and find some other house that might be falling apart to knock down.
It's all about money. It's too bad the city couldn't purchase the home as a historical landmark to preserve it. I have taken tours past the home and past the home of Danny Thomas and Betty White whose homes were torn down recently for new mansions to go on the property. The thought now is why keep a home built in the 1920's 30's 0r 60's when you can build and sell a mansion for millions now days. It's all about money and profit. I'm surprised at how many 10 million dollar homes are currently considered "tear-downs" to be replaced with a newer, bigger mansion selling for tens of millions of dollars.
Who gives a dam
Было бы здорово - проявить другие ценности.
Это красиво, и достойно славы
Thank you for showcasing this story. I understand the owners want a home they like... BUT you can do that anywhere. This comes down to "I have money and don't care what I do".
This is Marilyn Monroe's home and it qualifies as a historical site according to the cities website.
I'm praying her home is saved. 🙏
They’re going to build a monstrosity instead! 😳
Turning the home into and air bnb would have generated more than the house is worth. Oh, well!
So that means the cost of the half acre of land is around $7 MILLION...WOW!
Would make more money Turning into a tourist site to be honest...Marylin has a massive fan base world wide..... hope he/she respects what they bought.
Do not knock down this home,or anyone that cares for Marylin, please prevent this.
Save the home its history 😮😢
If these people want to save it, then come up with the money and purchase it from the current owner, don't just saying it
You couldn't afford it anyways or any other home throughout the state, so forget about it
Why is this historical? She was a known Jezebel. 😂
It's a beautiful house, just leave it alone! It was a legends home.
Maybe more importantly than the home being where she lived was that it was where she died. Even if a good medium said Marilyn said it was okay, the quantum entangled electrons of a worldwide following would likely send very bad vibes.
That house that belong to Marilyn Monroe should stay there for decades not get demolished. That's bullsh*t crazy how certain people of CA want to get rid of cool history that existed
Has nothing to do with CA ppl dummy 😂
@@Donjuanthecoamicgenius-sx3ff I agree very humble normal person living in a regular big home 2900 sqft is pretty big enough
The city must preserve it and turn it into a museum, just like Elvis’s house in Graceland.
Lazy reporting, why not track down the current owners, why not wait outside their house or office to catch them on camera and ask them about this?
This is the L.A. news. You expect filet mignon and they give you a ham sandwich.
Such a beautiful home... so sad.
It's disappointing if they tear down her last home, But Marilyn lived in various places in Hollywood during her life and career, The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel for one, She will always be remembered as one of world's most intriguing stars no matter what they do.
I think more so because she bought this home and went to Mexico to buy tiles and furniture. It was a home she was extremely proud of before she passed sadly. The architecture of this home is lovely .
In some sense, all the homes owned by famed stars are "special"....worthy of preservation.
the fact it was never declared a historic site...who knows..
It should be historical
Thank you for sharing this story.
🤔Remember the worst self sin in life is greed and the current owners of that historic home are greedy. Marilyn Monroe’s spirit is probably still there and it should be respected, loved and honored. If that home is torn down the new owners are setting themselves up for really bad karma for the rest of their lives.
Love Norma Jean I can just imagine how she must of felt to have her own home. She still makes us smile to this day.
City should buy Merlin Munro house and protected already. It’s national treasure of history and people. Our government Newson should leave . They have enough money from our taxes to pay 50 Merlyn houses.
Such an iconic home! Shouldn't be demolished. What needs to be done is to give a Historic landmark status and bring a restoration team to preserve the building!
If they didn't think it was gonna be what they wanted longterm, why did they buy it?
This house is an INTERNATIONAL TREASURE!!!!! It should not be changed or destroyed
So how do we keep this from happening?
Get out your chequebook. Stop telling other people what they should do with their own property. Buy it yourself and put your money where your mouth is
@@Salutimondoи вы перестаньте указывать! 🤗
that's SAD!!!
I am glad Bruce Lee house is still around.
Her ghost is there ! They need to be very careful ...not to disturb her soul that may still be there.
It would be sad to see it demolished but the owner who purchased it has a right to do what they want with their property.
if i was the owner i wouldnt do it just because it was monroes home
They shouldn’t have bought it because it should be a historic landmark. This is a travesty.
Please don't do it.
I feel Marylin just made me say that ❤️
@@Themedusatouch89
You talk to ghosts?
@@CoolCoolCool89he is the ghost
Must be haunted
New owners must be from another country
Ikr how do they not understand what Marilyn means to American history? And that of entertainment? This whole situation is crazy. Why is her house not turned into a museum like they did for Elvis? How come people are allowed to buy the land on which her house was built?
Marilyn's crypt and this house where the first places i visited many years ago when i went to Hollywood. I was also very disappointed at the number of landmarks that had been demolished!!! This house must not join that very sad list !!!
Man that was her only home. She died in that home. She was & still is one of the most famous human beings ever. That would definitely be tearing down a peice of Hollywood history. & why buy THAT house if they're just going to demolish it? Hopefully it doesn't happen.
Should’ve never been sold to anyone. Should’ve been a historic location.
Anything for money. This is a disgrace. If they allow it, that is a smack in the face of history.
this would be a disgrace if this happens
How very sad why did they buy if all they wanted to do is destroy it. Its should be preserve if that what the neighbors want. I say sell the house to someone that wants to keep Icon alive. It was her only true home.
Might be hunted 👻
Are you kidding me ! Makes me sad , dont touch that historical place!
As a abnb I would imagine millions could be made
If I had the money years ago, I would have purchased the house...when it was about 3.5 million. It was a dream unfulfilled financially but I've already contacted the city council member via the LA Conservancy. For the architecture of SoCal, for the history it has for being where Marilyn Monroe was murdered, it must be saved at all cost. If you've got money to burn to tear down an existing historic home to build a monstrosity, you are not living your life right.
This would be crazy. I've wanted to see this place.
Survivors of historic preservation should approach the city with the question of new landowners creating urban squalor 😂❤
That lady had all the right answer. And the way she smiled at the camera. Lol
Not only is her house a national treasure so is Marilyn save her memory.
1:10 LOOK AT THE DISREPAIR THEY LET THE HOUSE GO TO!!!!
WTF would they want to tear down this home?!
:( I love visiting there so sad
This is where she was murdered. They need to keep this house as historic
I think the owners got haunted too much. He, he!👻
The Same thing was gonna Happen with the Hollywood Sign they were gonna bring it down to build houses & Playboy Owner bought them off so they wouldn't do that to such a historical landmark people that go to LA for their first look forward to seeing that Sign Thank God For Hugh Hefner for buying them off!!
KEEP IT. And don’t touch it. Just maintain.
Oomy 😢😢😢 nooo i live in sydney australia, my idol is marilyn monroe, please no 😢😢😢 ive always wanted to go to brentwood to see her house, please marilyn monroe fans save the house, its a piece of beutiful history of the most famous women in the workd rip 🙏 ❤❤❤😢😢😢😢😢
You have to be hurry up,before they destroy this house. I been there, thank goodness, very special feeling and now I have very special memories and pictures.
Maybe the owner can have some group move the building to save it. Then the owner can build what they want.
Can you imagine having this woman and a bunch of others like her standing in front of your home telling you how to redesign your own property?
Noooooo 😭
save#marilyn House
You can not do that make a museum smh
NOOOoOo!!!!!!! Why?
Marylin must be turning in her grave.
Why aren't they tearing down any other house...just Marilyn's? Did they buy it just to do that? All of the Helena Drives properties are similar in size. Buy something else and "tear it down". Only in Los Angeles. They allowed Pickfair to get torn down, now this historic, and loved property could vanish. I wouldn't he surprised if the Kennedys are behind this.
Join LA Conservancy...houses like this go on the chopping block regularly. Find out by visiting their website. This house must be saved!
Why.. smh
They need to save Marilyn Monroe's home, like they should've with Jayne Mansfield 'Pink Palace' Mansion.
Jayne Mansfield's Home was truly magical ! Rudy Valli originally owned it. Ringo Starr and Cass Elliot also owned or rented it later on. Engelbert Humperdinck thought when he sold it would be preserved. It's gone along with a big part of glamorous Hollywood history.
I truly wish they would've preserved J.M.'s House, because it would've meant more to those who know about her, and love classic Hollywood Era. Something like Elvis Presley's Graceland?? I heard Mansfield's House was haunted? possibly.?@@skipwaldent8465
No don’t demolish Marilyn’s house it is too important!!
Thanks god someone has stepped up!
I think the women at 0:30 in the white cap inadvertently gave a good reason for the current owners to possibly tear it down and build a new residence.
Who wants tour bus groups oggling over your fence??
I love older architecture but after all it was just a house a film star lived in. She is iconic but LA real estate Is ever changing.
Then they probably shouldn’t buy the house or a house near by. It’s the equivalent of buying house where train tracks are at your back yard and then complaining about the trains going by.
If they don't like it just move can't believe someone with that much money to be able to afford a house like that could be so dumb
Why buy it or a house near it then?
@monaonassis6346 I'm sure they knew the history of the house when they bought it. Marilyn has even gained more fans since they bought the house, because of the Met Gala, because of the movie Blonde. Of course fans want to see the house, and hopefully it gets saved.
Greetings 🫖☕ good morning 🌞🙏 Marilyn first home I bet she felt great she went thru a lot as a child I never knew her life till I read about her.....I heard that her house is haunted by Marilyn sometimes she hangs out by the pool seen some ghost hunt video 👻
Does no one realize her address equals to a 10 which means the end death ? Kind of ironic she died in that house
City should've purchased it if they want it to be saved as a historical site. Oh well.
Omg can’t believe it I been hopall my life that maybe one day it was going to be a museum 😭😭😭😭🙈
noooo
Save this house!
I figured that was gonna happen, a lot of time people will demolish or discontinue good stuff when they get bored and don't appreciate the purpose of nostalgia they figure it's not historical landmark and she has dead for 61 years😊
There are certain criteria that makes a home historic and the home has to be kept at certain standards set by the city and the city has to say its historic . So unless the people telling the owners what to do with their property want to buy it from them and maintain the costs of a potential historic home then it’s not really their business.
you can never demolish a beautiful woman famous woman house like this
Why not turn the home into a museum?
The bungalow style here with the tile roof was early LA Americana and one story. I’m sure the owners would like to build some multi store monstrosity so they can cash in. Too bad
L.A. history is not very deep? What you smokin' lady?
LA is a new city when compared to the rest of the world so yes LA doesn't have much history.
Какой вы грубый и неприятный! 🤢
IT'S HAUNTED
TEAR IT DOWN
Always has to be resistance. She only lived in it 6 months and it's changed owners several times and now the ones without money want to tell the ones who paid money for it what to dom there's bigger Hollywood stars than she. Sheesh.
Завидуйте молча! 🤗
It probably has bad vibrations inside and costs more to replace to original state than tear down and rebuild. And what makes her home more “iconic” than Lucille Balls ranch house in the San Fernando valley? It was torn down to make a crappy tract home neighborhood. She was MUCH more iconic for women in Hollywood than Monroe.
Monroe was one of the First women in hollywood to fight against the CEO‘s and have her own Production company
Are u kidding me?! They are both equally iconic, Duh! Marilyn for Beauty The Kennedy,s , Famous Actress, Died young in a Mysterious Way! Sang Happy Birthday to the President Kennedy, legendary and Iconic performance, Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend , the 7 year itch when her dress blows up, Lucille Ball was a Innovative, creative woman, she had a interracial marriage to Desi Arnaz, she was the first woman to have her own show and production company, Desilu Productions, she had 3 shows following I love ❤️ Lucy, she was the first woman to show a pregnancy on television and she was a comedian, so they are both EQUALLY LEGENDARY AND ICONIC, but the story was about MARILYN MONROE NOT Lucille
@@nastashavalentinodefranco2990 no Monroe hat her first production company
One day there will be no history left in Los Angeles sad…..
Sad, some are good at tearing down history.
What!!
😢
Nooooo. Don't tear it down ill take it lol.😂❤
Its historical. Who does that?!
The owners just wanted to yank everyones' chain and drum up a trillion dollar buy-out that really wouldn't have the teeth without injustice and outcry.
The current owner bought it and he can do whatever the heck he wants with it. That lady down the block should come up with the money and buy it from the current if she is so desperately trying to save it.
Biden supporter talk your probably happy that blm tore down monument's too
Wrong. Please educate yourself.
Well, it is private property. I wouldn't want someone to tell me I can't rebuild something I own. These organizations should have purchased it back in 2017 to preserve it.
It should have been declared a landmark like other historical homes. This is our history. This is what LA is all about. It’s insane to me that someone would want to destroy it or could be allowed to. Who ever it is I hope they are haunted by pissed off spirits. That person will never get a moments peace! 🖕
Частная собственность на время вашей жизни))))
Людей испортила частная собственность - американский пример очень показательный.
Ничего здесь нет поистине вашего. Даже ваше тело - вам - на время 🤗
Why my God? 😮
They Should have Saved Ray Bradbury's house guldarnit !
*They should turn this into a museum but unfortunately I feel like higher powers want the place of Marilyn Monroe death to be covered forever.* 😢
Noooooooooo!!!!!!
Betty White House was destroyed wheee was this energy
The new owner is planning to build an ice cream parlour and factory the would provide great moments for many people and would generate more income than an empty house 🏡 turned into a museum .
House Museum Marilyn. Fare come con Graceland. Marilyn ed Elvis are the best all of the time Forever 🔝🔝❤️❤️ Ciao i'm from Italy 🇮🇹
Noooo my goodness y do people want to get rid of everything that is history. Y
They are tearing down statues left and right. What's next?
