    Some literally did something like this on my board...but used a suet bird feeder container as the mounting " container".

    Looks good. Let's hope it doesn't fall upside up... ☺
    Serveral of my Catts in baskets decide to grow upside down on their own by pushing new grown downward through the bottom slats; probably thinking they're on a tree limb somewhere in South American... ☺

    Hi Danni, what prompt you you hang it upside down? very interesting way to do it though.

      Hi Susan, this orchid will produce very big leaves, 2 meters long at maturity. They will also bend down due to the wight if the orchid is potted upright, so the place where they will bend will be very fragile and prone to breaking, thus potting it upside down is safer for the plant :)

    Hey Danny, I've been having an issue with mold. I do not understand why all of a sudden mold is growing because it seems like my orchids like the media since they've all been growing like crazy. I do not want to repot them but I don't know what else I could do? :/

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  8 лет назад

      Hi Melissa, well sometimes it happens that orchids will grow in many bad environments, quite well sometimes, but the downside is that you don't know something is wrong until they are almost dead. Phalaenopsis are the best at this, an orchid can be almost dead and still maintain its flowers. Now with this in mind you have to asses your orchids well, see if the problem is bad quality medium, dead roots or simply too much moisture in the pot. Make sure you water when the medium is dry or almost completely dry. Also try to provide fresh air daily, even if outside it's cold, a few minutes per day a window should be opened to refresh the air, this will eliminate the possible accumulation of spores in the environment. A quick fix is a soak in hydrogen peroxide 3%, but this doesn't solve the cause, if the cause is bad medium or rotten roots, so this is up to you to find. Hope this helps and good luck, let me know how it goes! :)

    Did you hear the snapping? 4:23 I hope it wasnt the root. The orchid looks tiny and fragile now. good luck !

      Might be a root, might be the synthic getting caught in the basket. No worries even if it was a root, thick rooted orchids can do with a snapped velamen ;)

    hey! i'm considering ordering from orchid garden and i want to ask, what shipping option did you use? and also, what does "personal collection" mean when it gives you shipping options? thanks!

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  8 лет назад

      Hi, personal collection means picking them up at the nursery :) I suggest you send them an email and tell them about your intention, I had the same problem because I ordered a large quantity. I made my order and paid transport separately. Justyna will give you the transport options. So I could chose normal post, EMS fast post or TNT, they also have UPS. I chose EMS :)

    Good luck with this species... I'm afraid to try it, I know it's quite fuzzy!
    More than upside down I would have put it like sideway... but it's just a personal thing :)

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  8 лет назад

      Hi, why do you think they are fussy? do they have any weird requirements I missed? :P I opted for upside down cos I don;t want to make the leaves bend in the future, I can imagine they will be quite heavy.. but let's first get this one to grow I guess :P

    • @naturalPianoadastra
      @naturalPianoadastra 8 лет назад

      In that case the upside down mount is the only way :)
      Actually I forgot to write (but I was thinking it) "at least in my climate". Now that you live almost in the tropics it's different!
      Paraphalaenopsis may be really slow in doing everything and they are easy to offend... at least, that's their (bad) fame :)
      However, if you manage to grow it you may try even with some Holcoglossum, that is really similar for the growing condition :)

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  8 лет назад

      well I guess we will see along the way, it's a new species for me and I like a challenge :P
