Same here, I got an L4400. it's never let me down.. It's done all a tractor should do and some things that it wasn't designed for .. All good so far , knocking on 20 years of service..

I'm sure it's a great tractor but I tested one last month and I found the hydraulics to be a little clunky compared to Kubota. Here's the video: ruclips.net/video/hdHvZ601sPE/видео.html
I have a 1990s Ford 3930 and it never fails, the top part of the radiator gets compacted with debris every time I mow with the bush hog. I always try to remember to spray the radiator down with a garden hose the next time I use the tractor, the day after mowing when the engine is cool. Really I need to build an easy to remove filter for the front of the radiator.
One thing I've learned over the years is if you think you only need a 30 horse tractor, get a 50 horse because something always comes along where you need just a few more horses.
Yep. In my case a 2025R would have done the job so I got a 2038R instead. Does the same thing just way better. Getting a mini excavator shortly and a 2.6T would work so I’m buying atleast an overweight 3T machine or going all in on a 3.5T. You always need more than you think…
That's a great idea if you have a property sized large enough to do that, for me it would make no sense to follow that logic, I only have an acre, and my sub-compact tractor is perfect....also, couldn't get one of those 50+HP tractors into the places I take my tractor....physical size plays a huge role in picking out a tractor sometimes over the engine size LOL. Don't get me wrong I'd love a 50-100HP tractor, but for what I do, that would be extreme over-kill LOL.
Yes, I always wipe the zerks off before greasing. But after greasing... I always leave a little grease on them to protect the fitting from any debris. Don't pay too much attention to those channel trolls trying to correct everything you do. They are probably sitting on their 1/4 acre lot wishing they had a tractor like yours instead of the riding lawn mower they do have. Yeah, I always wipe the zerk before greasing. Good vid. I have watched a few baumalight brush mulcher vids and the concerning thing for me is how it will pull large sticks and small trees under the tractor. I would take a trip under the tractor and make sure any important components are shielded from this type of flak. my .02 only . Piney Grove rocks! Cheers Seacliff Steve.
When my MX5800 screen gets clogged up and runs hot, I have to clean the fileter screen and also use a water hose to spray out the 2 silver coolers and Radiator as the always get plugged up as well.
Had the same happen to me with my MX5200. Was cutting the big field and had to clean out the filter as the tractor was getting hot. Leason learned was not to let the field grass get too high.
I would be scared as well! It seems as if your were only getting it Hot but not overheated and stalling it here and there. Seems as if that is a good fair use to me. Great tips on the grease fitting and everything is looking really nice!
I think it was telling me to stop stalling it. Been great since that issue a couple weeks ago. I worked on the hydraulic pressure today....video coming!
That’s why you get a 50 year old Ford 4000 su diesel tractor! It will out work, out pull ,and will out last anything new you buy! A Massey 65 diesel deluxe will do the same!!!
@ absolutely it’s built with diesel components if it is a 3 cylinder. They do like gas but have plenty of power! Excellent tractors honestly. You can’t get a better built tractor for the size. I am a retired diesel mechanic.
When I was researching small tractors, one of my top picks was the 3901 Kubota. I really didn't want a tractor with the DEF emissions, so I decided to purchase the 2515H Branson. I absolutely tortured it the first year and even dug a small watering pond for deer with it. It truly works above its weight class. At almost 4,000 lbs and a lifting capacity of 2,200 , it has performed flawlessly. It has its limitations, but for $7,000 less than the , I have the perfect tractor for my needs. Keeping the radiator sceen clean usually will avoid over heating. Great video and the 3901 rocks!
Also, my Deere 3033r was overheating a lot last summer on hot/humid days running about anything on PTO. I'd shut it down, clean radiator, etc and good to go. Had it in the shop for something else, so asked them to check it and they found the radiator cap was leaking. New cap = no problems since.
Could you adjust the slip clutch on the PTO shaft on the mulcher to prevent the stalls? Or is it already set right for your horsepower? I’m not a fan of all the electronics to run the new common rail diesel engines. My old mechanically fuel injected machine just runs until you shut off the fuel!
@@PineyGroveHomestead I found out the slip clutch on my roto-tiller isn't slipping a couple weeks ago when I stalled the tractor when the tiller hit a root....now I have to take apart a bunch of stuff to get to the slip clutch so I can adjust it.
Luckly I don't get tons of comments. But some get crazy. I use my stuff harder some days then other. There is nothing wrong with pushing the equipment every once in awhile. love the show. keep it up.
I bought the l4701 in 2020. I wanted the l3901 till i seen it was on the smaller frame. It just wasnt big enough for what I needed. I have worked the crap outta that tractor. With zero issues.
I like the 4701 but am looking for a low hour used 4600. I will jump on it if I can find a barn queen! The only thing about the 4701/4702 is how wide it is for the in between work I do. Nothing is perfect, I guess! Thanks for watching.
@@PineyGroveHomestead funny you say that. The place I work at has a 4600 hst. He bought it new. The business I'm in. We're pretty, rough on equipment. That poor tractor. But it keeps going and going. Never had a problem. With it. When I went to get mine. I asked for the hst. Salesman said most don't want em because their scared of having problems. And I told him about that 4600. The hst don't scare me at all. I wished the 4701 had the clutch pedal for the pto like the 4600.
If your stalling out through the PTO shaft, you might want to inspect your PTO shaft. I twisted and broke my PTO shaft using my sickle bar mower trying to cut too big of trees alongside the road.
I have a 2012 L3800. I have worked the guts out of that tractor on a West Virginia mountain top farm. Ive built roads, brush hog about 15 rough, steep acres with a 6ft rotary cutter 2-3 times a year, and cut around 20 acres of hay with a Heston 1071 haybine. It's too late to tell me it's not a tough tractor.
Hello, out here from PR & TX I noticed you use a scarf or neck gator like cloth for dust control for dusty environment. What type is it. I have handkerchief and others but end up to sweaty for the face. Thank you - keep on tractorind hard.
I use Columbia neck gaiters and usually a sweat band. The neck gaiter is great for sun protection and also wicks away sweat and has a cooling effect. Amazon Affiliate Link: amzn.to/4e2fkWM
Kubota is the best tractor on the market without a doubt. We have 166 acres and we use ours all the time clearing and bushhogging and hauling dirt and gravel with the front-end loader. We have had our tractor for 20 years all we have ever done to it is we had to replace the battery.
I've mold board plowed and disced as well as rotary mowed for many hours with my L3200. As well as moved 3+ feet of snow for hours straight with my B2301. My little 2 cylinder B4200 cuts grass without a hitch so I can't say I've ever had any trouble with my Kubotas. Summer, winter they have always preformed no matter the season or weather. They are not equipped with any additional emissions equipment however.
I always wipe a zerk both before and after servicing with grease, but that's just me. Also, just an observation, it looks to me like you need to lengthen your top link a bit on your bushhog set up.
If you are thinking about a smaller tractor and smaller brush hog, look into the B2601. I bought my first Kubota in the late 90s, a B7300 16 HP gem with all attachment sized for that tractor. I then traded up to a B7800 30 HP (basically the same tractor as the LX3020 today) in 2004 and it has been an excellent machine. I am 73 now and the backhoe has gotten just a little too difficult to take off and put on, so my bride of 52 years suggested to me to go get another smaller tractor for the 9 attachments I have that were matched for the 7300. I did a lot of research on all Kubotas and all the modern brands (my first tractor when I was 8 years old was a 1938 JD B on my dads ranch and farm), suffice it to say, I have been around tractors for a long time. I have about 20 hours on my new B2601 doing very hard work, including the brush hog (LandPride RC1548). That brush hog has always been a beast, particularly on the 30HP 7800. Look into the B2601l. I am very impressed.
We use a 100hp ASV to run our forestry mulcher and it can get overwhelmed at times, I think using a little tractor like the L3901 to run a forestry mulcher is just not a good idea. I think Kubota makes a great tractor, certainly in the top 2 or 3, but owners need to use what they have for what it’s deigned to do. Mulching saplings is one thing but 4-6” trees should be left for machines designed for that.
Have you ever considered a flail mower over a bush hog for that smaller width. It would be great for that wooded area. Also, brake cleaner on those zerks has served me well, especially those hard to reach areas.
Great video... you say it yhe way it is! How did you clear the error code on your tractor? The user manual doesn't say a word about this. I got an error p0606 flashing. I replaced the battery but the code didn't go away. I also have sn l3901.Thx!
I found it online. It's simple!: 1. While holding down both DPF INHIBT switch and parked regeneration switch, turn key switch "ON" or "START" position. 2. Mode selection display is indicated on the LCD. 3. Press the parked regeneration switch and the mode indication on the LCD is changed. 4. If "b" is indicated on the LCD, press the parked regeneration switch for more than 2 seconds. 5. Error information Clear mode is selected and the expression "PUSH" is displayed. 6. Press the parked regeneration switch for more than 2 seconds. 7. The expression "OFF" is displayed. 8. Turn off the key switch.
I think you'd be pleased with the results a flail mower gives on Bahia pasture. Flail mowers offer at least three types of flails, chosen for the type of material you're cutting. Duckbills for grass give a finish-mower result. Hammer flails will almost duplicate what a mulcher does, albeit on smaller diameter brush trunks. The "y" flails are a compromise, being heavier than the duckbills but lighter than the forged hammers and will be the type usually shipped with a new mower. Try one!

You should thin out the pines by size as well as give better trees more space, preferably 5-10 feet. Otherwise, trees that are close to each other compete and limit the growth of the trees
I bought a old !965 Massey Ferguson , 55 horse . Perkins Diesel , with front loader , hay forks for 5.500 . I spent 1500.00 for rear tires . I bought a disc used for a 100.00 and a 6 ft Brush Hog fpr 400.00. and spent 200.00 on new Blades . everything runs great . It is a Beast , no codes or electronic , sensors .
I just saw this exact same thing happen to another RUclipsr using the same implement. I used to have a Ram 3500 that was intolerable until they did the delete on the emissions. I hated doing that b/c I'm a pretty reliable vote for environmental concerns, but it just could not run without throwing an emissions code every 100 miles. I just bought a L4400 with 700 hours from about 2010 and I am thankful I'm in one before all the computers showed up...like Skynet in the Terminator, to break tractors in the field.
Retired Kubota dealer here; it was my understanding, when in the dealership, that code would pop up when the tractor would stall out from a heavy load. We just typically helped the customer reset the code and that would solve the problem.
@@PineyGroveHomestead Just to confirm your thoughts and what @johnhelbig7110 had mentioned, My father-in-law has a L3901 that I think is a 2017 year model also. I stalled it using a stump grinder and the same code showed up. I have a friend who owns a Kubota dealership and he told me it was from stalling. He helped us reset the code and haven't had a problem since and that was several years ago.
@@marvelous1492 There is a way you can take out the sensor and clean it, but I just reset the code. It's been running great since then. Thanks for the info.
Instead of a 4ft brush hog, maybe try a 4 ft flail mower? They're supposed to cut through small brush, but also leave grass looking more like a finish mower. Maybe you already have one, but if not, seems like it would add another tool to the shed.
A few years I was discoing half acre with a disc about as wide as kubota with no hydraulic hoses when the hydraulic (steering) and others went out . The weeds were about 3inches and sparse . Never found out what happened, it was a loan to my Son-in-Law. I am a farmer hand and driven all kinds .
@@PineyGroveHomestead No offense Piney or manufacturers but in my [JD] beats all of them. The mechanics and personal were always very kind and helpful even if you weren’t a farmer looking for a part. At that time in and PHX,AZ and the towns outside of PHX were titled "ARIZONA MACHINERY “ and my take, nobody have to agree with me.
@@PineyGroveHomestead I’m not talking about preferences but tractors performance on a JD’s there is no such thing as pushing to its limits they tested tuff. Around Phoenix the fields are rocky that any tractor breaks when plowing or ripping from 3to4feet deep, the engine doesn’t it’s from the rear wheels back and so the plow or ripper when gets in large boulders.
Lets not act crazy, tractors are designed for field work. Now we have these crazy attachments and using tractors in skid steer land (the woods) You can't think its the manufacture's fault that these things start having issues when they are used outside of what they were actually designed for. Especially these smaller lighter weight tractors.
No I don’t clean my grease fiittins before I grease…mainly because my machine doesn’t come with grease fittins. It does however come with grease fittings which yes I do clean those before I grease my machine…😂. Curious if it was because you were working it hard or just maybe it was clogged up at the oil coolers and air filter…those implements are incredibly dusty/ debris prone
I have a kubota lx3310. I’m looking forward to going bigger but I am not convinced I’m going kubota again. John Deere is Mexican now so I don’t know what I’m going to buy
City folks moving to a country life have a little idea of what you need cleaning the screen maybe 2 or 3 times a day i have an old scholl 30 year old baby kubota like yours works great but i have a bigger 115 hp pto tractor for real work
Not a hater of any brand, After a year of shopping around, I bought a 3725R premium Branson shuttle shift and done a DPF delete with 10 hours on it. 3200 hours of a 6' Bushhog. grapple and a BH200 backhoe. 0 issues except for the exposed fuel line at the bottom of the tank. A simple fabricated skid plate solved that problem. Great content in your video! Cheers to all.
Anytime you work any tool hard, it suffers. Just take care of your equipment. Kubota is a great company with great products. But emissions equipment really hamstrings equipment overall.
diesels are ment to work! but they do have there limits! here the thing with summit they loaned you that tractor to show what you can and can not do with it. people dont understand that yeah its being loaned out to you and your to show what it can and can not do plus they take all the data and see if they can make it better. as far as abuse goes yeah running it wide open long periid of time and going fast all the time your gonna shirten the life of the engine, and do damage. best advice is keep working, keep the radiator clean, and all the screens to keep it from over heating! when it over heats just drive it back dont shut it off just pull the screen and let it idle a few minutes and grab the water hose and flush the fins of the radiator and grab the air hose and blow the acess water out! letting it cool off like that wont warp a head or blow a head gasket!
They don't want you to idle these new tractors because of the DPF! I'm just glad the Kubota didn't get damaged and we're back to tractoring hard with it!
Thank the representatives that never do anything for the people they work for after being voted into office for concocting laws and regulations that benefit their bank accounts. DPF filters are useless and cause excessive premature deterioration of the diesel engines. Delete the DPF and let the tractor’s engine run as it was designed to do and you will be pleased with the results. When it comes to mulching p, use a skid steer with appropriate power and designed brush head for dense brush removal.
@@wildbill23c A tractor is not a pickup and in the south from Texas to Florida we don't have emissions testing so worrying about a fine is not something we stress about.
@@PineyGroveHomestead emissions on any diesel engine is just the government taxing the working man. Diesel is much cleaner than gas and burns at a higher temperature that’s why black smoke is created when a diesel engine is creating high torque and hp. Should be if run AG diesel in non highway machines no DEF or DP filters.
Seems like you could use a medium or heavy duty Flail Mower with some hammer blades. It will do a great job mowing and mulching your fields & will treat light brush just like the forestry mulcher. Maybe you could get a sponsorship for one. 🫡

I need to run in that slip clutch.....it's not slipping at all. Thanks for watching.
There is nothing wrong with pushing the equipment every once in awhile. love the show. keep it up.
Thanks for watching!
I need to loosen up the clutch plates on the mulcher and burn it in so it slips before it stalls the tractor. Thanks for watching.
I had 2 L3800. Tough machines...no emissions.
Learning more from your channel than any other. ❤
Thanks! We appreciate you watching!
My thought from growing up on a farm. You need a higher pto hp to run forestry muncher without any issues good luck to you
The tractor is well within the specs of the mulcher, but I agree more PTO hp would be better.
Kubota is the best tractor on the market without a doubt. We have 166 acres and we use ours all the time clearing and bushhogging and hauling dirt and gravel with the front-end loader. We have had our tractor for 20 years all we have ever done to it is we had to replace the battery.
That's a good battery!
The battery that came in the tractor we hot 15 years out of it believe it or not.
I've had a couple of L3800s. Great machines.
L2601, no DEF. Tractor pressure washed before every service. Perfect size and fit for my 2 acre ranch camp in New Mexico.
None of Kubota compact tractors use DEF. The L2501 is below the hp threshold for a DPF.
The property is looking great! Keep up the hard work.
Thank you! Will do!
I always wipe a zerk both before and after servicing with grease, but that's just me. Also, just an observation, it looks to me like you need to lengthen your top link a bit on your bushhog set up.
Thanks for the tip!
Another great video sir!👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the info and for watching!
The L3901 meets the Baumalight specs for the MP348 mulcher but it's hard on it!
@ they want to sell their product, that doesn't mean it's a good idea for your tractor. I think this video makes that clear.
If the fitting is clean i just wipe it, if it's bad I use a little brass brush on it.
Good tip!
Great video. Glad you use ALL the equipment like you should. Keep the great videos coming. Glory to God. You’re doing great.
Thanks so much. My heart sunk when I though the L3901 might be down!
Have you ever considered a flail mower over a bush hog for that smaller width. It would be great for that wooded area. Also, brake cleaner on those zerks has served me well, especially those hard to reach areas.
We want one!
he has the wrong size tractor for that mower.. just because something can fit dose mean it is the right size tractor
Great video... you say it yhe way it is!
How did you clear the error code on your tractor? The user manual doesn't say a word about this. I got an error p0606 flashing. I replaced the battery but the code didn't go away. I also have sn l3901.Thx!
I found it online. It's simple!:
Try one!
I want one!

That's why a lot of people go with a 25 horsepower
Agree, but we need more HP especially at the PTO.
Every once in awhile we have to push equipment to the max it doesn't hurt it
You should thin out the pines by size as well as give better trees more space, preferably 5-10 feet. Otherwise, trees that are close to each other compete and limit the growth of the trees
All I could think of was a huge repair bill, but it's been running fine since then.
The best thing about Kubota is the Kubota insurance
KTAC has a good reputation but we bought this used.
My tractor is a 180
Good choice!
Enough money saved to buy an offset Farmall A or AV for planting and cultivating. Can always sell it for what you paid for it
A flail would be great on that hay field.
I need one!
Wipe the grease fittings every time. Glad your tractor is ok. Enjoyed the video
Thanks 👍
I just saw this exact same thing happen to another RUclipsr using the same implement. I used to have a Ram 3500 that was intolerable until they did the delete on the emissions. I hated doing that b/c I'm a pretty reliable vote for environmental concerns, but it just could not run without throwing an emissions code every 100 miles. I just bought a L4400 with 700 hours from about 2010 and I am thankful I'm in one before all the computers showed up...like Skynet in the Terminator, to break tractors in the field.
What killed American made tractors of old was the rise of marketing and advertising
Retired Kubota dealer here; it was my understanding, when in the dealership, that code would pop up when the tractor would stall out from a heavy load. We just typically helped the customer reset the code and that would solve the problem.
Thanks for the info and yes, I'm pretty sure it was due to stalling a lot running the Baumalight forestry mulcher.
We are getting one soon! Thanks for watching.
Yes I do clean off the grease fitting
Thanks for watching.
You will mulch much better with a flail mower. And it will not windrow the grass.
I need one!
They are tough tractors, but that doesn't mean things won't break on them.
@@JoseGarcia-hk3mk Ford/Chevy....we all have our preferences!
Maybe that difference in price between same type of models from another manufacturer is showing up?
Its a seasonal tractor. Summer is to hot for it. Go find an old John Deer 3010 wide front end!!
Lets not act crazy, tractors are designed for field work. Now we have these crazy attachments and using tractors in skid steer land (the woods) You can't think its the manufacture's fault that these things start having issues when they are used outside of what they were actually designed for. Especially these smaller lighter weight tractors.
The PTO output of this tractor is within the rating of the forestry mulcher.
Time for a bigger tractor!
Truth.....We are looking! Thanks for watching.
Also you hit 500 hours. Nice.
It would be more but we use the Summit TX25 a lot!
Thank G-d my tractor was made before all that emisions crap.
I keep the radiator pretty clean and watch the temp gauge religiously. The Baumalight Forestry Mulcher requires a lot of power!
I have a kubota lx3310. I’m looking forward to going bigger but I am not convinced I’m going kubota again. John Deere is Mexican now so I don’t know what I’m going to buy
TYM and Kioti are good brands to test drive.
That had to be scary for sure.
It's been working great for a couple of weeks, so I'm glad no damage was done.
@@PineyGroveHomestead Absolutely.
a 50 horse tractor don't always work well with a 50 horse power mower... the PTO is always lest the the tractor
City folks moving to a country life have a little idea of what you need cleaning the screen maybe 2 or 3 times a day i have an old scholl 30 year old baby kubota like yours works great but i have a bigger 115 hp pto tractor for real work
Lotta assumptions in your comment.
Wipe off with a paper towel always
Good practice!
your brush hog doesn't bog your tractor?
my 60 inch going up hill requires 1st gear often
We don't have hills much but in thick grass we have to use the hydro in L

Should have bought a KIOTI !!!! Kubota is getting like John Deere .
PTO HP = PTO HP....no matter the brand.
@@PineyGroveHomestead AGREED ! That's why Kioti same HP out lifts and out works others .front and back ...
I beat the shit out of my BX25D and it just takes it every time. Put diesel, grease it and it just goes.
Kubota strong!
Yet an old IH will just keep on chugging along
True!
Thanks for sharing. I like all tractors.....just happen to have had Kubotas the most.
They aren’t built like they were years ago.
We traded ours in for Kioti no comparison
Are you saying you think Kioti makes a better tractor?
why not cut that for hay?
We cut hay once this year....we don't need anymore yet. Video here: ruclips.net/video/yQJNF3wFm-U/видео.html
if your tractor is 50 tour PTO will be around 30%
I think there is an operator problem.
Anytime you work any tool hard, it suffers. Just take care of your equipment. Kubota is a great company with great products. But emissions equipment really hamstrings equipment overall.
So true. All that emissions just makes the engine work harder!
A good tractor to get is a John Deere 5525 no emissions
That is a bit too big for our needs.
Wow, you
I don't understand this comment.
Regen sucks. I have it on mine
diesels are ment to work! but they do have there limits! here the thing with summit they loaned you that tractor to show what you can and can not do with it. people dont understand that yeah its being loaned out to you and your to show what it can and can not do plus they take all the data and see if they can make it better. as far as abuse goes yeah running it wide open long periid of time and going fast all the time your gonna shirten the life of the engine, and do damage. best advice is keep working, keep the radiator clean, and all the screens to keep it from over heating! when it over heats just drive it back dont shut it off just pull the screen and let it idle a few minutes and grab the water hose and flush the fins of the radiator and grab the air hose and blow the acess water out! letting it cool off like that wont warp a head or blow a head gasket!
They don't want you to idle these new tractors because of the DPF! I'm just glad the Kubota didn't get damaged and we're back to tractoring hard with it!
You are using a medium duty tractor to do heavy duty work.
Live & Learn lol
Something new each day on the farm!
Emissions on tractors this size makes no sense....useless complications and expense. Thanks for watching.
Delete the emissions stuff, sounds great until you get caught....on diesel pickups its a $20k fine.
I think your major problem is the owner. Over working a tractor that is to small for equipment he wants to use.
thats the manual regen light
press the regen button
wait for regen to be done
go back to work.
next time read the manual
Sensors..junk..
That is what happens when you buy toys to do real work
Ignorant comment.
Should have bought a used tractor not a toy 😮😮😮😮

Seems like you could use a medium or heavy duty Flail Mower with some hammer blades. It will do a great job mowing and mulching your fields & will treat light brush just like the forestry mulcher. Maybe you could get a sponsorship for one. 🫡
We do want to get a flail mower to see how well they work compared to a brush hog. Thanks for watching!
